The phrase is misleading and it sends people in the wrong direction. Somebody who has everything does not have unusual taste — they have a full house, which is an entirely different problem and has an entirely different solution. Searching harder for a stranger object is the instinct, and it produces the worst gifts of the year: obscure things nobody wants, which take up exactly as much shelf as the ordinary things they were meant to improve on. The way out is to stop looking for an object at all.
Quick answers — read this first
The reframe: this is a storage problem, not a taste problem. Give something consumed, not something kept. A 50ml reed diffuser runs 6–8 weeks and then it is gone, leaving no shelf occupied and no obligation behind.

The default: Mountain Breeze at ₹849 — Himalayan pine, sage and Indian cedar. The least sweet register we make and, in our experience, the best answer for the person everybody else has given up on.

If they are a coffee drinker: Fresh Brew at ₹849 — real Coorg coffee over Kerala vanilla, the deepest thing we make at 9.5. Superb for the right person and the least safe blind buy in the range.

If you truly do not know: Evening Calm at ₹799 — the softest scent we make, at 8.9.

The honest gap: there is no SOSA gift card and no hamper, so "let them choose" is not an option we can sell you. And there is no reed diffuser below ₹749 at all.
The short answer
Short answer: for someone who has everything, give a consumable in a category they enjoy but never buy for themselves — which for most adults is home fragrance. Mountain Breeze ₹849 is the sharpest answer, Evening Calm ₹799 the safest. Both run 6–8 weeks and then vacate the shelf entirely.
Why home fragrance specifically: it is the classic never-quite-reaches-the-top-of-the-list category. People who own everything own everything they decided to buy; home fragrance is almost never decided on, because it is pleasant rather than necessary and there is always something more urgent in the basket. That is exactly the gap a gift should fill.
Under ₹1,000, the alternatives: a 6ml attar ₹669–₹699 — an unusual format most people have never owned; the Boond ultrasonic machine ₹899, which is a device rather than a consumable; a jar candle two-pack ₹664. Free shipping above ₹499.
Straight answer
What do you give someone who already owns everything, for under ₹1,000?
1. Give something that is used up. This is the whole answer and everything else is detail. A person with a full house cannot accept another permanent object without a cost — a shelf, a drawer, a decision about what leaves. A consumable is exempt from that entirely. A 50ml reed diffuser occupies a corner of a surface for 6–8 weeks and then it is finished and gone.

2. Pick a category they enjoy but never get round to buying. Home fragrance is the strongest candidate for most adults, because it is the definition of a nice-to-have: pleasant, non-urgent, and permanently third on a list of two things. The person who has everything has everything they decided on. This is the category they never decided on.

3. Default to Mountain Breeze at ₹849. Himalayan pine, sage and Indian cedar — 9.4 on our strength scale and the driest, least sweet, least gendered composition we make. It is the bottle we see gifted most often to people described as impossible, and one buyer's father, whom she calls the hardest person to buy fragrance for, asked her for a second.

4. Do not chase novelty for its own sake. Unique should mean unlikely to be duplicated, not strange. A strange gift is a shelf problem with a story attached. A composed fragrance is unique in the only sense that matters here: nobody else is giving it, and they do not already own it.

5. Accept that they might already own a reed diffuser. If they do, the interesting alternative at this ceiling is a 6ml attar at ₹669–₹699, which most people have never owned in any form — or the Boond ultrasonic machine at ₹899, which is a device rather than a bottle and comes with three 15ml scents included.

Alcohol-free, phthalate-free, paraben-free, IFRA-compliant, 0 ppm formaldehyde, composed in Pune. Free shipping above ₹499. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
TL;DR: stop hunting for a rarer object. Someone who has everything has a full house, so give something that is consumed rather than kept. Mountain Breeze ₹849 for the difficult recipient, Evening Calm ₹799 if you cannot risk a preference, a 6ml attar ₹669–₹699 if they already own a diffuser.
SOSA Mountain Breeze pine, sage and cedar reed diffuser
The bottle for the impossible person
Mountain Breeze · Himalayan pine, sage, cedar ₹849 / 50ml
Real Himalayan pine, sage and Indian cedar — 9.4 on the SOSA strength scale, the deepest woody we make, and the driest. It is the one I recommend for recipients other gifts have failed, because it has no sweetness to object to, no floral to have an opinion about and no gendering at all. It reads as altitude rather than as perfume. Six fibre reeds, refillable glass, 6–8 weeks on the 50ml.

Three reasons the full house — not the fussy taste — is the real constraint

If you take the phrase literally you end up shopping for rarity, and rarity is expensive, hard to judge and frequently unwanted. If you take it as a description of a house, the problem becomes tractable, and it turns out to have a short list of properties a gift needs in order to work. Every one of them is satisfied by a consumable, and none of them is satisfied by a cleverer object.

1
REASON ONE · THE SHELF
Every permanent gift arrives with a bill attached
Evening Calm reed diffuserEvening Calm₹799The cost of a kept gift is not what you paid; it is the space, the dusting and the small permanent obligation not to get rid of it while the giver is still visiting. In a full house that cost is real and the recipient feels it on the day, however politely. A consumable has none of it. Evening Calm takes a saucer's worth of surface for two months and then leaves, and the only trace is that the recipient either misses it or does not. Both outcomes are clean.
The test: in three months, will this still be in their house whether or not they want it there?
2
REASON TWO · THE UNDECIDED CATEGORY
They own what they chose — not what they never got round to
Fresh Brew reed diffuserFresh Brew₹849People who own a great deal are usually decisive shoppers, and decisive shoppers buy what they need and skip what merely appeals. Home fragrance sits in the skipped column for almost everybody: it never becomes urgent, so it never gets bought. That is the seam a gift should go into. Fresh Brew — real Coorg coffee over Kerala vanilla and a soft caramel, at 9.5 the deepest thing we make — is the sharpest version of this for a serious coffee drinker, because it is specific to something they already love and is nonetheless something they would never have ordered. One buyer's mother-in-law asked for one after refusing every scented thing before it, on the grounds that this one does not go cake-shop sweet.
The test: is this something they like the idea of and have simply never bought?
3
REASON THREE · DUPLICATION
Unique means "nobody else is giving this", not "strange"
Garden Bloom reed diffuserGarden Bloom₹799The real risk with a well-supplied recipient is not that your gift is ordinary — it is that four people bring the same ordinary thing, and every one of them is politely thanked. Edible gifts duplicate constantly, because they are the safest default and everybody reaches for the default. A composed home fragrance almost never duplicates, and when it does it is not wasted, because a second bottle simply goes in a second room. Garden Bloom is a good illustration: one buyer sent it as a batch of wedding gifts and every couple wrote back asking where it came from, which is what a low-duplication gift looks like in practice.
The test: how many other people at this occasion are bringing something in the same category?

What "unique" should actually mean when the house is already full

There is a version of unique that is really just obscure, and it is the trap this search leads people into. An unusual object bought because it was unusual arrives with no relationship to the recipient's life; it is a conversation piece for one evening and a storage decision for the next decade. The useful definition of unique in gifting is low duplication and high fit — something they will not receive twice, that belongs in a room they actually use. A composed fragrance satisfies both, and it does so without requiring you to be cleverer than everybody else in the room.

It also has a property that objects do not: it is not a thing so much as a condition of a room. The person who has everything has, by definition, run out of things — but nobody runs out of atmosphere, because atmosphere is not accumulated. This is why home fragrance holds up against a full house in a way that no amount of ingenuity in the object category can. You are not adding to the pile. You are changing how the room the pile is in feels for two months, and then handing that decision back.

Fit still matters, and it is where most of the risk sits, so be specific rather than clever. If the recipient is a coffee drinker, Fresh Brew at ₹849 is a bullseye and an obvious pleasure. If they have a study, a workshop or a room they think in, Mountain Breeze at ₹849 belongs there. If you genuinely do not know, do not guess at an interesting scent to seem thoughtful — take Evening Calm at ₹799, which at 8.9 is the softest thing we make, is room-agnostic and carries no cultural or memory loading. Garden Bloom at ₹799 is beautiful and is not a blind buy, because a firm dislike of florals is one of the most commonly held positions in this category.

Duplication risk, scored honestly

The question worth asking about any gift for a well-supplied recipient is not "is this nice" but "how many of these will they receive, and what happens to it afterwards". Here is the SOSA shelf under ₹1,000 scored on exactly that, including where the answer is unflattering.

The duplication table
What happens to it after the day
Gift Kept or consumed Duplication risk What happens in month three Price
Mountain Breeze 50ml Consumed — 6–8 weeks Very low Finished; they replace it or they do not. No shelf taken ₹849
Fresh Brew 50ml Consumed — 6–8 weeks Very low Same — but only give it to someone who genuinely likes coffee ₹849
Evening Calm 50ml Consumed — 6–8 weeks Low Finished. The safest bottle to give someone you cannot read ₹799
6ml attar roll-on Consumed slowly Very low — few people own one Still in use; it is a personal fragrance, so an intimate gift ₹669–₹699
Boond ultrasonic diffuser Kept — it is a device Low On a shelf. Good if they will use it; a permanent object if not ₹899
Jar candle two-pack Consumed — ~30–36 hours across the pair Moderate — candles are a common default Burnt or half-burnt. Fine, but the least differentiated option here ₹664

Three answers for a house that is already full
The SOSA principle
Nobody runs out of atmosphere, because atmosphere is not accumulated. A full house is full of objects, and empty of the thing a fragrance provides.
Which is why the answer to "they have everything" is not a rarer object but a different kind of thing altogether — one that is used up rather than stored.

When a permanent object is still the right gift

The consumable argument is strong and it is not universal, so here is where it fails. A milestone deserves something that stays. A first job, a wedding, a significant birthday, a retirement — these are occasions where the recipient will genuinely want an object to look at in ten years, and a fragrance that finishes in eight weeks is the wrong shape for them however good it is. The full-house argument does not override a milestone; a shelf will be found. If that is your occasion, buy the permanent thing, and buy the best one you can rather than the most surprising one.

Edible gifts also deserve a fair hearing, because I have been slightly hard on them. Where a gift will be opened and shared on the spot — a house full of people, a celebration in progress, an office floor at four in the afternoon — something to eat is genuinely the correct answer, because it is consumed communally and immediately and never becomes anybody's storage problem at all. Its weakness is only in the setting where it is not shared on the spot: it duplicates heavily, it competes with whatever the household has already cooked, and it carries dietary exposure — the recipient's restrictions, allergies, fasts or preferences, which you frequently do not know and cannot ask about without spoiling the surprise. A reed diffuser has none of that exposure, which is the quiet reason it is safer for someone you know less well than you would like.

And the category error, stated plainly because it matters more than any sale: home fragrance is the wrong gift for a household mid-renovation, for anybody who has told you they dislike scent, and for a newborn home that has asked for nothing added. Those are three real situations in which the honest answer is to give something else, and I would rather write that here than have you find out afterwards.

A strange gift is a shelf problem with a story attached. Unique should mean nobody else is giving it — not that nobody else would.

In the order I would actually reach for them, with the honest gap in the last row. There is no SOSA gift card, which is the obvious fallback for a difficult recipient and one we cannot offer; there is no hamper or curated set; and there is no reed diffuser below ₹749.

Honest notes for buyers: SOSA reed diffusers are alcohol-free on a heat-stable CCT carrier, phthalate-free, paraben-free, IFRA-compliant and 0 ppm formaldehyde, with six fibre reeds in a refillable glass bottle, composed in Pune by an ISIPCA Versailles-trained perfumer and climate-tested through 45°C heat and 85% RH humidity. A 50ml runs 6–8 weeks and is then finished — on this page that is the argument, not a caveat. The 130ml at ₹1,249–₹1,349 runs 14–18 weeks but sits above this ceiling. The 15ml Hotel Collection oil at ₹299 is a refill for an ultrasonic machine, never a standalone gift, and cannot be used in a reed diffuser. Free shipping above ₹499. SOSA Fresh Brew Coorg coffee and vanilla reed diffuser
The bullseye, if the fit is right
Fresh Brew · Coorg coffee + Kerala vanilla ₹849 / 50ml
Real Coorg coffee over Kerala vanilla and a soft caramel, at 9.5 the deepest composition we make. For a serious coffee drinker this is the most specific gift in the catalogue and one they would never have bought themselves. It is also, unambiguously, the least safe thing to give blind — a gourmand at full depth is a strong opinion in a room. Give it where you know, and give Evening Calm where you do not.

A note from Sonal

The customers I learn the most from are the ones buying for somebody impossible, because they are unusually honest about the failure modes. What they tell me, almost word for word, is that they are not looking for something the recipient will love — they are looking for something the recipient will not have to pretend about. That is a much lower bar and a much better brief, and it points straight at consumables.

It is also why I am relaxed about our bottles finishing. People sometimes read the 6–8 weeks as a limitation and try to talk me into claiming more. I will not, because the number is honest and because on this page in particular it is the entire selling point. The gift arrives, it does something pleasant every day for two months in a room they use, and then it stops asking for anything. If they want it back, they know where it came from. If they do not, nobody is left with an awkward object and a memory of who gave it.

The one thing I would push back on is the instinct to be clever. Every year somebody gives a genuinely eccentric gift to a person who owns everything, and it is admired for an evening and then quietly stored for a decade. Specific beats eccentric every time: the coffee drinker gets the coffee bottle, the person with a study gets the cedar one, and the person you cannot read gets the soft one. Composed and made in Pune, and a portion of every order funds a girl's classroom through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

What do you buy for someone who has everything, under ₹1,000?
Something consumed rather than kept, in a category they enjoy but never buy for themselves. For most adults that is home fragrance. Mountain Breeze at ₹849 is the strongest answer for a difficult recipient, Evening Calm at ₹799 the safest if you cannot read their taste. Both run 6–8 weeks and then leave no shelf occupied.
Isn't a consumable gift less special than something they keep?
For a milestone, yes — a wedding or a significant birthday deserves an object that stays, and I would buy one. For an ordinary occasion and a full house, the opposite is true: a kept gift carries a permanent cost in space and obligation that the recipient feels and never mentions. A gift that finishes is a gift that never becomes a burden.
What if they already own a reed diffuser?
Then give a different format rather than a second bottle of the same idea. A 6ml attar roll-on at ₹669–₹699 is something very few people have ever owned — though it is a personal fragrance, so keep it to family and close friends. The Boond at ₹899 is a 300ml ultrasonic machine with three 15ml scents included, which lets them change the scent themselves.
Is there a SOSA gift card so they can choose themselves?
No. There is no SOSA gift card, no hamper and no curated gift set, so the "let them pick" route is not available from us. The nearest thing to a hedge is to choose the least polarising composition — Evening Calm at ₹799, which is the softest scent we make at 8.9 and is room-agnostic with no cultural loading.
When is home fragrance the wrong gift altogether?
Three situations, and they are worth taking seriously: a household mid-renovation, where dust and paint will overwhelm anything; anybody who has told you they dislike scent or reacts to fragrance; and a home with a new baby that has asked for nothing added. In all three, give something else. No amount of good composition fixes a category error.
