Founder Diaries · Reed Diffuser & Home Fragrance Gifting
By Sonal Sahani · ISIPCA Versailles 10 min read Updated September 2026
The instinct is to find something good enough to sit alongside the house. Resist it. After two years of choosing between four shades of the same stone, there is no object you can hand over that registers at that scale, and trying is how people end up buying a vase that quietly migrates to a spare room. The useful question is narrower: what is still missing from a house where everything visible has already been decided? Usually the answer is the one layer nobody drew.
SOSA Vaayu waterless cold-air scent machine, Rs 11,999
SOSA Vaayu · waterless cold-air · up to about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft ₹11,999 →
The machine this question usually arrives at, and only if the ground floor is genuinely open. SOSA Vaayu, ₹11,999 - waterless cold-air diffusion producing a dry residue-free mist, published for up to 1000 m3, about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft of connected air, with a 400ml tank, app and button control, 1, 4, 8 or 24-hour run windows, adjustable intensity and operation under 38 dB. Four 100 ml fragrances included.
Quick answers — read this first
What do you gift someone who chose every item in their new home themselves? Something that adds to the house without entering the visual field they spent years resolving. SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 is a waterless cold-air scent machine published for up to 1000 m3, about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft of connected air, running under 38 dB and scheduled from an app.

Will a machine suit a bungalow? It depends on how open the house is, not on how large. A coverage rating assumes one connected body of air, so the figure describes a ground floor that runs living into dining into a stairwell. A bungalow of the same area with every internal door shut is not one volume, and a reed diffuser from ₹749 in each room is the better answer there.

Is it complete when it arrives? Yes. Every Vaayu ships with four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances, 100 ml each, in one of three published four-scent sets, all at ₹11,999. Those are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations, and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand.
The short answer
Short answer: Give the layer nobody planned. Scent is added after architecture, lighting, furniture and art, so it does not argue with any decision already made. SOSA Vaayu is Rs 11,999 for up to about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft of connected air, under 38 dB, and it ships with four 100 ml fragrances.
The pick: A SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 if the ground floor is genuinely open - otherwise reed diffusers from ₹749, one room at a time.
Why: It adds nothing to the visual field they spent years resolving, it runs under 38 dB, it is scheduled rather than always on, and it arrives complete with four 100 ml fragrances.
Sending something when somebody is having a hard time - at a glanceKeep it small - candle ₹399, attar ₹379, car scent ₹449For their home - reed diffuser ₹749, nothing to switch onSay the words yourself - no card goes in the parcelNever - a parcel instead of turning up
A gift cannot change how somebody's week went, and a page that suggests otherwise is not worth reading. What a small parcel does is tell a person you were thinking about them on a day when nothing made you - which is a real thing to say, and worth saying. Keep it small, because a large one asks somebody already short of energy to produce a reaction, and send the words separately, because the object cannot carry them.
Straight answer
What can I gift parents who selected every piece of furniture and decor in their new bungalow themselves?
Something that is not an object in the room. That sounds like a riddle and it is actually a category: scent is the last layer in a finished house, and the only one nobody planned. An architect resolves the volume, a designer resolves the surfaces, a lighting consultant resolves the evening - and then everybody stops, because scent is not on anybody's drawing. So it adds to a completed house without arguing with a single decision already made in it. SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 is the machine version: waterless cold-air diffusion, a dry residue-free mist with no water and no heat, published for up to 1000 m3, stated as about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft, with a 400ml refillable tank, Bluetooth app and onboard buttons, run windows of 1, 4, 8 or 24 hours with day scheduling and adjustable intensity, under 38 dB, on DC 12V / 1A at 5W. It is 165 x 80.5 x 215 mm and 0.9 kg, black or white, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounted, CE, RoHS and SGS marked, made in India, and it ships with four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances of 100 ml each. Two things to be straight about. A coverage rating assumes one connected body of air, so it suits an open ground floor and not a house of closed rooms. And fragrance adds a scent to a space - it does not remove, neutralise or purify one, and the residue-free mist is a statement about residue rather than about air quality. A portion of every SOSA order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
You are not competing with the house. Nobody is. You are looking for the one thing that was never on the drawings, and there are not many candidates.
The default on this page: Vaayu at ₹11,999 when the ground floor is one open volume - up to about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft, under 38 dB, four 100 ml fragrances in the box.

The three things to settle before you buy anything for a finished house

Three questions settle this, and the second one is the one people skip because it requires walking around the house rather than looking at a price.

1
The first question
What are you actually trying to do here?
Worth separating two motives that feel identical when you are standing in a shop. One is I want to give something proportionate to what they have built. The other is I want to add something the house does not have. They lead to completely different purchases and only the second one is achievable.

Proportion is a trap because the denominator is a house. Anything you buy will be a rounding error against it, so the gift ends up being judged on taste instead - and taste is precisely where you are least equipped, because they have spent two years developing a very specific one and you have spent an afternoon.

Addition is a different question with a short answer. Walk through what a finished house already has: structure, surfaces, furniture, lighting, art, soft furnishing. Every one of those had somebody making decisions about it. Scent is the one layer that had nobody, which is why it is available to you and why it does not read as a correction of anything.
Tip: Stop looking for something proportionate. Look for the thing nobody assigned to anybody.
2
The second question
How much of the house is actually one open volume?
This is the question that decides between a machine and bottles, and it is not answered by the total area of the house. Vaayu publishes a coverage figure, which almost nothing in home fragrance does: up to 1000 m3, stated on the product page as about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft. Read it strictly. A rating assumes one connected body of air.

So the test is physical rather than numerical. Stand at the front door of the bungalow and see how far you can see. If the entrance runs into a living area that runs into dining and up a stairwell, with no doors closed between them, that is one volume and it is exactly what the figure describes - and it is also the case a reed diffuser on a console table cannot serve, because a small passive bottle scents the two metres around it.

If instead the house is a corridor with six closed doors off it, it is not a 3,000 sq ft volume. It is six rooms, and the honest answer is reed diffusers from ₹749 or a duo set from ₹1,498 in the two or three rooms that matter. That is a cheaper gift and a better one. Note also that no guidance is published on what a second machine adds, so a very large connected floor is a conversation rather than a calculation.
3
The third question
The three things worth knowing before you buy it
It is quiet and it is scheduled, which is why it belongs in a house like this. It runs under 38 dB, and it is controlled by a Bluetooth app or the buttons on it, with run windows of 1, 4, 8 or 24 hours, chosen days and adjustable intensity, plus auto-stop and a key-lock. A gift that hums in a double-height living room, or that runs all day in an empty house, would be a bad gift. This one does neither, and that is a published fact rather than a hope.

It arrives complete. Every unit ships with four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances, 100 ml each, so there is nothing further to buy on day one. Afterwards, SOSA waterless nebuliser refills are ₹1,049 for 100 gm and ₹1,849 for 300 gm. It takes alcohol-free, water-free oils formulated for cold-air diffusion; the water-based bottles on the site belong to the ultrasonic machines and are a different fluid for a different device.

And one thing to ask rather than assume. The product page states how long a 400ml fill lasts in two different ways - about 75 days in its specification data and 90 or more in its body copy - and it depends on the intensity and the scheduled hours in any case. Ask on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 rather than planning around a number. There is also no published installation service, no warranty period and no running-cost figure.
Tip: Ask what a fill actually lasts. The page says two different things and neither is wrong to ask about.
SOSA Vaayu, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounted
Read the number strictly, not generously
About 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft - of air that is actually connected
Vaayu publishes a coverage figure, which almost nothing in home fragrance does: up to 1000 m3, stated as about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft. The caveat matters more than the number. A rating assumes one connected body of air. A ground floor that runs living into dining into a stairwell is one volume and is exactly what the figure describes. A bungalow of the same total area with six closed doors is not one volume, it is six rooms, and the figure does not transfer. Work out how much of the house is genuinely open before you work out anything else - and note that no guidance is published on what a second unit adds.
See SOSA Vaayu ₹11,999 →
Work it out in this order
How to settle this in about ten minutes, most of it walking
  1. Give up on proportion. Nothing you buy competes with a house, so stop trying.
  2. Walk the ground floor and see how much of it is open with no doors between.
  3. One large open volume means a machine. Separate rooms mean reeds from Rs 749.
  4. Ask on WhatsApp what a 400ml fill lasts before you plan around any number.
The SOSA principle
A finished house has had a specialist for every layer except one. Nobody is retained to decide what it smells like, which is exactly why that layer is still available to you and why adding to it cannot read as a correction of anybody's work.
That is the whole argument for this category in a house like theirs, and it is worth understanding before comparing any two products, because it explains why the cheaper answer is often the right one.

Which set, what arrives with it, and what it runs on

There are three published four-scent sets and they cost the same ₹11,999, so this is a taste decision rather than a budget one. The sets pair Ritz-Carlton with Westin, St. Regis and 1 Hotels inspirations; Westin with Shangri-La, Four Seasons and Ritz-Carlton; and St. Regis with W Hotels, 1 Hotels and Four Seasons. It is worth saying plainly what these are: SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations, composed by SOSA, and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. For parents who have just finished a house they intend to live in for decades, there is a reasonable argument against the hotel register altogether - a home that smells like a lobby is not obviously what somebody wants after two years of making it theirs. Four 100 ml bottles give them room to find out, and if none of the four suits, the waterless nebuliser oils at ₹1,049 for 100 gm are a small correction rather than an expensive mistake.

The SOSA gift edit
The four ways to spend this, and where each one fails
The option Who it suits, and where it fails
SOSA Vaayu · ₹11,999 Up to about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft of connected air, under 38 dB, scheduled by app with 1, 4, 8 or 24-hour windows, complete in the box with four 100 ml fragrances. It fails in a house of closed rooms, where the coverage figure simply does not apply - and it fails as a surprise if nobody will ever open the app.
A reed duo set · ₹1,498 to ₹2,598 Two bottles in one box, about 6 to 10 weeks, nothing to plug in or schedule. The right answer for a bungalow that is really a set of separate rooms, and for parents who will not operate anything. It fails in a large open volume, where a passive bottle scents the area immediately around it and no more.
A single reed diffuser · ₹749 to ₹1,349 The honest small gift, and genuinely correct for one room - an entrance, a study, a guest bedroom. It fails only when it is being asked to do a job three sizes too big for it, which is what happens when somebody buys one for a 3,000 sq ft open floor and wonders why nothing happened.
A decorative object · any price The default, and the one this page exists to argue against. It enters a visual scheme that two people spent two years resolving, it has to be displayed or explained, and it is judged immediately against everything else in the room. It works only if you genuinely know their taste better than the evidence suggests.
SOSA Vaayu ships with four Hotel Collection fragrances
The two details that matter in a finished house
Under 38 dB, and it runs only when you tell it to
Two published details decide whether this belongs in a house somebody spent years on. It runs under 38 dB, which is the answer to the reasonable worry about a machine humming in a double-height living room. And it is scheduled: Bluetooth app plus onboard buttons, run windows of 1, 4, 8 or 24 hours, chosen days and adjustable intensity, with auto-stop and a key-lock. That is what makes it workable in a house occupied for part of the year, or a room used only when people come over. It is 165 x 80.5 x 215 mm and 0.9 kg, black or white, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounted, and it ships with four 100 ml fragrances - so it is complete on the day it arrives.
See the nebuliser refills from ₹1,049 →

One note on where this sits against the rest of the range, because the temptation with a large house is to assume bigger is better. SOSA Meenar at ₹38,500 is published for 12,000 to 18,000 sq ft and is a commercial machine - a hotel, a showroom, a corporate floor. For a bungalow it is not the ambitious choice, it is the wrong one. Below Vaayu, the ultrasonic machines - Sukoon at ₹1,899 and Megh at ₹5,999 - are water-based, suit a single room, and need water and regular refilling, which is a real weekly ask of somebody who did not choose them. And SOSA Safar at ₹3,999 is the portable one: it goes with a person to a car or a hotel room rather than scenting a property, and it is imported rather than made in India. None of those is a worse product. They are answers to different questions, and the question here is about a large connected volume in a house somebody has just finished.

The number this whole decision turns on, and where it stops being true
Up to 1000 m3 - about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft - of connected air
SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 publishes a coverage figure, which almost nothing else in home fragrance does: up to 1000 m3, stated on the product page as about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft. It is a waterless cold-air machine producing a dry, residue-free mist with no water and no heat, running under 38 dB on DC 12V / 1A at 5W, with a 400ml refillable tank, Bluetooth app and onboard button control, run windows of 1h, 4h, 8h or 24h, day scheduling and adjustable intensity, plus auto-stop and a key-lock. It is 165 x 80.5 x 215 mm and 0.9 kg, in black or white, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounted, CE, RoHS and SGS marked, and its country of origin is India. But a coverage rating assumes one connected body of air. That figure describes an open-plan living-dining floor, a duplex's main level, a double-height hall - the kind of volume a small passive bottle cannot reach. It does not describe a bungalow with every internal door closed, because that is not one volume; it is six. Above about 3,000 sq ft of genuinely connected space, or across separated wings, the honest answer is a conversation rather than a number, because no multi-unit guidance is published. SOSA Meenar at ₹38,500 is published for 12,000 to 18,000 sq ft and is a commercial machine rather than a house gift.

The SOSA gifting range

Two questions settle almost every reed diffuser gift, and the first one is not price. How big is the room it is going into? A 50ml suits a bedroom, a study, a hallway or a first diffuser; a 130ml suits an open-plan living and dining area, and it is genuinely too much for a small closed bedroom. Then: how much do you actually know about their taste? The less you know, the less declarative the scent should be - Morning Freshness is the safest of the five for a home you have never stood in, and Fresh Brew coffee-vanilla is the strongest opinion in the range. Price follows those two answers rather than leading them.

A coverage rating assumes one connected body of air. Vaayu's figure describes an open-plan volume - a living-dining floor, a duplex's main level, a double-height hall. A house with every internal door shut is not one volume, and the figure does not transfer to it. Every Vaayu ships with four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances, 100 ml each, and its country of origin is India. Fragrance adds a scent to a space; it does not remove, neutralise or purify one, and the dry residue-free mist is a statement about residue rather than about air quality. The honest spec sheet
What the Vaayu page publishes, and what it does not
Everything below is on the live product page. Anything not on this list is not something a page like this should state.
  • Coverage - up to 1000 m3, published as about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft. A rating assumes one connected body of air, so it describes an open-plan floor rather than a house of closed rooms.
  • The machine - waterless cold-air diffusion, dry and residue-free, no water and no heat. 165 x 80.5 x 215 mm, 0.9 kg, black or white, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounted. DC 12V / 1A, 5W. Under 38 dB. Auto-stop and key-lock. CE, RoHS and SGS. Country of origin India.
  • Control - a 400ml refillable tank, Bluetooth app plus onboard buttons, run windows of 1h, 4h, 8h or 24h, day scheduling and adjustable intensity. This is what makes it workable in a house that is empty for stretches, or a room used only at weekends.
  • In the box - every Vaayu ships with four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances, 100 ml each, in one of three published four-scent sets, all at ₹11,999. SOSA blends described as hotel-inspired are SOSA's own interpretations and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand.
  • The fragrance - alcohol-free, water-free oils formulated for cold-air diffusion. SOSA waterless nebuliser refills are ₹1,049 for 100 gm and ₹1,849 for 300 gm and are published for Vaayu and Safar. The water-based ultrasonic bottles belong to a different kind of machine.
  • Not published, and therefore never stated here: how long a 400ml fill lasts as a single figure - the page says about 75 days in one place and 90 or more in another; what a second unit adds; any warranty period, service interval or filter; any installation service; any app name, phone compatibility or Bluetooth range; and any running or electricity cost. Those go to WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.

A note from Sonal

The messages I find hardest to answer are the ones that begin with an apology. They have just finished building the house. I don't want to sound cheap, but I also can't buy them anything that matters at that scale. And underneath it is a real anxiety: that after years of drawings and delays and site visits, whatever you turn up with will look like a token.

What I would say is that the anxiety is aimed at the wrong thing. You are not competing with the house. Nobody is. The people who built it spent two years choosing between four shades of the same stone, and there is no object you can hand over that will register on that scale. Trying is how people end up buying a vase that gets moved to a spare room.

The reason I keep coming back to scent for these particular houses is unromantic. It is the last layer, and it is the only one nobody planned. An architect resolves the volume, a designer resolves the surfaces, a lighting consultant resolves the evening, and then everybody stops - because scent is not on anybody's drawing. So it is one of the few things left that adds to a finished house without arguing with a single decision already made in it.

The part I would be careful about is the number. Vaayu publishes a coverage figure, which almost nothing in home fragrance does, and I would rather you read it strictly than generously. About 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft, of air that is actually connected. A ground floor that opens living into dining into a stairwell is that. A bungalow with six closed doors is not that, whatever its total square footage says on paper, and a page that blurs the two is doing you no favours.

Frequently asked questions

How much space does SOSA Vaayu actually cover?
The published figure is up to 1000 cubic metres, stated on the product page as approximately 2,000 to 3,000 square feet. Read it as one connected body of air rather than as a total floor area: it describes an open living-dining floor or a double-height hall, not a house whose rooms are separated by closed doors. No guidance is published on what a second unit would add.
Is it noisy, and does it run all the time?
It is published as operating under 38 dB, and it does not run all the time unless you tell it to. Control is by Bluetooth app or the buttons on the unit, with run windows of 1, 4, 8 or 24 hours, chosen days and adjustable intensity, plus auto-stop and a key-lock. That scheduling is what makes it workable in a house that is not occupied every hour of the day.
Does it come with fragrance, or is that extra?
It comes with fragrance. Every Vaayu ships with four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances of 100 ml each, in one of three published four-scent sets, all at the same Rs 11,999. Afterwards SOSA waterless nebuliser refills are Rs 1,049 for 100 gm and Rs 1,849 for 300 gm. It takes alcohol-free, water-free oils made for cold-air diffusion.
How often will they have to refill the tank?
The tank is 400 ml and refillable, but the product page states its life two different ways - about 75 days in its specification data and 90 or more days in its body copy - and either way it depends on the intensity setting and how many hours a day it is scheduled to run. Ask SOSA on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 rather than planning around a single number.
Will a fragrance machine deal with a new-construction smell?
No, and that is worth knowing before buying. Fragrance adds a scent to a space; it does not remove, neutralise, mask or purify anything, and it does not clean the air. A new build that still smells of paint or polish needs ventilation and time. The dry, residue-free mist Vaayu produces is a statement about residue on surfaces, not about air quality.

About the coverage figure: a rating assumes one connected body of air. The published figure describes an open-plan volume such as a living-dining floor, a duplex's main level or a double-height hall, and does not describe a property whose rooms are separated by closed doors, whatever its total floor area. No guidance is published on what a second unit adds. About tank life: the Vaayu product page states the life of one 400 ml fill in two different ways - approximately 75 days in its specification and FAQ data, and 90 or more days in its body copy - and in either case it depends on the intensity setting and the scheduled hours, so no single figure is stated on this page. What is not published, and is therefore not stated here: any warranty period, service interval or filter; any installation service; any app name, phone compatibility or Bluetooth range; any running or electricity cost; and any multi-unit coverage. Limits of this guide: fragrance adds a scent to a space. It does not remove, neutralise, mask or purify odour, it does not clean the air, and no SOSA product makes any health, antibacterial or air-purifying claim; a dry residue-free mist is a statement about residue and not about air quality. No claim is made anywhere on this page about mood, stress, calm, sleep or wellbeing, nor about how any recipient or guest will feel, nor about what a gift does for any business result. No page here characterises any recipient's wealth or describes people who own particular kinds of property; where a property value appears it is the figure the reader themselves supplied as context. SOSA blends described as hotel-inspired are SOSA's own interpretations and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. SOSA Home & Body is an Indian fragrance house based in Pune, Maharashtra, sending orders across India, with no shop, showroom, stockist, counter or warehouse in any other city.
