A practice on a busy Vadodara street counted it once for me: the entrance door moved more than two hundred times in a working day. Clients, staff, couriers, the tea, the lift, somebody stepping out to take a call. No setting on any machine is going to out-argue that, and the answer is not to try.
Quick answers — read this first
Does a constantly opening door ruin ambient scenting? It does not ruin it, but it does decide where the source goes and when it runs. Each opening exchanges the air nearest the door, so the first couple of metres inside your entrance are effectively outdoor air for much of the day. Treat that zone as unscentable rather than fighting it.

Should I turn the level up to compensate? No — that is the mistake this page exists to prevent. A level set high enough to survive the door is far too high for the room once the door is finally shut, which is exactly when your longest appointments are happening. Compensating with strength produces a lobby that is loud in the quiet hours.

What are the fixes? Three, in order: placement — put the source deep in the room, away from the door swing and the air-conditioning return; run window — schedule it to the rhythm of the day rather than running it flat; and a vestibule or double door if the layout allows one. SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 supplies the run windows and a level that can be locked.
The short answer
Short answer: A cycling door makes the zone nearest it unstable and pushes scented air out into your corridor. Do not answer it with strength. Answer it with placement, with a run window, and — if the layout allows — with a vestibule, which does more than any product on this page.
The pick: Mountain Breeze at ₹849 placed two-thirds into the room rather than near the entrance. Where a schedule is the answer, SOSA Sukoon at ₹1,899 for one room or SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 with 1h/4h/8h/24h timers across a connected floor.
The honest limit: This page describes behaviour rather than quoting air-change rates, because those depend on your building, your door, your pressure and the weather, and nobody can give you a real figure from a webpage. Nobody can promise that a scent moves a business number, and this guide does not try to.
What the door does, in five movements1. Each opening exchanges the air nearest the door2. The first two metres inside are outdoor air3. Scented air is pushed out into the corridor4. Raising the level makes the quiet hours loud5. Placement, run window, vestibule — in that order
Described as behaviour rather than as numbers, because the numbers depend on your door, your building and the weather on the day — and nobody can supply them from here.

Straight answer
My office door opens constantly throughout the day — how much does that affect scent diffusion?
Enough to change where you put the source and when you run it, and not enough to make the whole idea pointless. I am going to describe this in behaviour rather than in numbers, because the numbers — how many air changes an hour a door cycle produces in your particular lobby — depend on your door type, the corridor pressure, the air conditioning, the floor the office is on and the weather that morning. Anybody quoting you a figure for a building they have not stood in is inventing it.

Here is what actually happens. Every time the door opens, the air nearest it is exchanged. Not the whole room — a slug of air around the opening, replaced by whatever is in the corridor or the street. On a busy professional floor that happens often enough that the first metre or two inside your entrance is, in practice, outdoor air for most of the working day. A source placed in that zone is being diluted continuously, which is why the practice that puts a diffuser on the reception desk beside the door reports that it "does not work" and then buys a bigger one. The zone near a cycling door is not a scenting failure; it is simply not a place where a stable level can exist, and the correct response is to stop trying to hold one there.

The second behaviour is the one that causes complaints: the door pushes your air outward as much as it pulls corridor air in. That is why a fragrance escapes into a lift lobby or a shared corridor, which in a multi-tenant building on Old Padra Road or in Alkapuri is both a level problem and a neighbour problem. And the third is the trap. Faced with a door that keeps wiping out the effect near the entrance, the natural response is to turn everything up. Do not. A level high enough to survive two hundred door movements is a level that becomes overwhelming in the room the moment the door is finally shut — which, in an advisory practice, is precisely when the ninety-minute appointment is happening. Compensating for a busy door with strength produces an office that is loud in exactly its quietest hours.

So, the three fixes, in the order they should be attempted. One: placement. Put the source two-thirds of the way into the room, away from the door swing and out of the direct path of the air-conditioning return, at seating height or a little above. This alone solves most door-cycle complaints and it costs nothing. Two: the run window. Instead of running flat all day, run to the rhythm of the practice — established before the first appointment while the door is still, present through the quieter middle of the day, off after the last client. SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 gives you 1h/4h/8h/24h timers and an intensity you can set once and key-lock; SOSA Sukoon at ₹1,899 gives a single 270–320 sq ft room a switch and a schedule, accepting that being ultrasonic it adds some moisture. Three: a vestibule. A double door, an internal lobby, an air curtain, or even a well-placed screen that stops the door opening straight into the seating area does more for a scented interior than any product decision, because it gives the room a buffer instead of a border. If you are fitting out, draw it in. Nobody can promise that a scent moves a business number, and this guide does not try to.
Each opening exchanges the air nearest the door, so the first metre or two inside the entrance cannot hold a stable level — and the door pushes your air out into the corridor as well. Never answer that with strength. Answer it with placement deep in the room, a run window matched to the day, and a vestibule if the layout allows one.
A reed is easy to put in the right place, which is the whole answer to a busy door. Mountain Breeze — pine, sage and Indian cedar, alcohol-free — is ₹849 for 50ml or ₹1,349 for 130ml and needs no power point, so it can sit where the room wants it rather than where the socket is.

What a high-traffic entrance actually buys

On a door-driven floor the useful features are placement freedom and a schedule, not extra reach. The images link to the live product pages.

SOSA Mountain Breeze reed diffuser
For placing deep in a room with a busy entrance
SOSA Mountain Breeze
Himalayan pine, sage and Indian cedar on an alcohol-free coconut-derived base, six fibre reeds flipped weekly. ₹849 for 50ml lasting 6–8 weeks, ₹1,349 for 130ml lasting 14–18 weeks. No power point required, which is the practical reason it can go where the room needs it — two-thirds in, away from the door swing — rather than where the socket is.
From ₹849
SOSA Vaayu
For running to the rhythm of the day across a connected floor
SOSA Vaayu
Waterless cold-air nebuliser, 1000m³ — roughly 2,000–3,000 sq ft depending on ceiling height — ₹11,999. 1h/4h/8h/24h timers so the register is established before the first appointment and off after the last, adjustable intensity that can be key-locked so nobody raises it to fight the door, 400ml tank lasting roughly 75–90 days a fill, under 38dB. Waterless, so a door that brings in monsoon damp is not met with more moisture.
From ₹11,999
SOSA Vaayu
Run windows are the second fix, and this is the machine that has them
SOSA Vaayu
₹11,999, 1000m³ coverage — about 2,000–3,000 sq ft depending on ceiling height. 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, adjustable intensity with key-lock, auto-stop, under 38dB, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting so it can be placed away from the entrance rather than beside it. 400ml refillable tank lasting roughly 75–90 days a fill depending on intensity and run hours. DC 12V/1A at 5W — roughly 1.5 units of electricity a month on a ten-hour daily schedule, and tariffs vary. Waterless, so nothing is added to a room that already takes in damp air every time the door moves. CE, RoHS and SGS certified.

The three things that actually decide it

One zone you cannot control, one instinct to resist, and one piece of building fabric that outperforms every product on this page.

1
The door zone is not scentable
Stop trying to hold a level in the first two metres
The air immediately inside a cycling door belongs to the corridor and the street as much as it belongs to you. Nothing you place there will hold a steady level, and anything strong enough to seem to will be doing damage further into the room. Accept the zone as a threshold rather than a space, and let the scented part of the office begin where the seating begins. In Vadodara this zone is also where the dust arrives, which is a cleaning matter rather than a fragrance one.
Tip: Draw a line two metres inside your entrance on the floor plan. Nothing to do with fragrance belongs on the door side of it.
SOSA Mountain Breeze reed diffuser
Mountain Breeze at ₹849 needs no socket, so it can sit where the room works rather than where the wiring is.

2
Never answer a door with strength
Loud enough for the door is far too loud for the meeting
This is the single most common mistake on a busy entrance. The level is raised until the effect survives the traffic, and then at seven in the evening, or during a ninety-minute appointment behind a shut door, the same setting is producing a room nobody would have chosen. The correct response to a variable environment is a low fixed level plus a schedule, not a high one. Key-lock exists precisely because the instinct to turn it up is so strong and so consistently wrong.
Tip: Judge the level at the quietest hour of your day, not the busiest. The quiet hour is when the setting is doing its most damage.
SOSA Sukoon ultrasonic diffuser
SOSA Sukoon at ₹1,899 gives one room a schedule and an off switch, which is the cheap version of the second fix.
See SOSA Sukoon →
3
A vestibule beats any machine
The cheapest scenting decision is a second door
A double door, an internal lobby, an air curtain or even a screen that stops the entrance opening directly into the seating area changes a scented interior more than any product on this page. It gives the room a buffer rather than a border, which means the exchange at each opening happens in a space that is not the space you furnished. It also keeps street dust and monsoon damp out of the lounge, which are the two things a Vadodara entrance actually delivers. If you are fitting out, draw it in before you shop.
Tip: If a full vestibule is impossible, turn the seating away from the door line. The visitor then sits in air the door is not constantly refreshing.
SOSA Vaayu
SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 can be wall or HVAC mounted well away from the entrance, which is the placement a busy door demands.
See SOSA Vaayu →
The SOSA principle
A busy door does not weaken a scented room evenly. It carves an unstable strip out of the front of it and pushes the rest of your air into somebody else's corridor.
Which is why every fix is about geometry and timing, and why none of them is a higher number on a dial.
SOSA Vaayu
Run windows, not more strength: SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 — 1h/4h/8h/24h timers and an intensity you can set once and key-lock, so a busy door is answered with a schedule rather than a dial.

The door, behaviour by behaviour

Five things a door does in a professional office, what each one does to the air, and the fix that answers it. No air-change figures, because they would be invented.

The SOSA plan
Every fix is geometry or timing; none of them is a higher setting
Door Behaviour What Happens to the Scented Air The Fix That Answers It
Mountain BreezeOpening every few minutes at peak
The air nearest the door is exchanged continuously; no stable level can exist there Move the source two-thirds into the room. Treat the first two metres as a threshold, not a space
Propped open during a busy hour
The lounge and the corridor become one volume for as long as it stays propped Unprop it, or accept that the register is suspended for that hour and let it re-establish after
SOSA VaayuOpening onto a shared lift lobby
Your air is pushed outward into a space that belongs to other tenants Lower the level and move the source inward; verify by standing in the lobby with the door shut
SOSA SukoonQuiet for ninety minutes during a long appointment
The room holds everything it is given and accumulates behind a closed door A low fixed level and a run window, so the quiet hours are not running the busy-hour setting
A wide automatic door in a hot or wet month
Heat, dust or damp arrive with every sweep, and the entrance zone follows the street A vestibule, double door or air curtain — building fabric, not a product, and it does the most

If the symptom you have noticed is that people can smell the office from the corridor, that is tell number three in the page on trying too hard, and the fix is here. The reason a low fixed level plus a schedule beats a high one is developed in the 45–90 minute rule, which explains what the quiet hours are doing to the same setting. For how the level differs between the room behind the busy door and the rooms beyond it, see reception versus private client meeting rooms, and for whether a machine is the right size for the space at all, the honest floor page.

No air-change figures appear on this page because they depend on your door, your building and the weather, and any number quoted from a webpage would be invented. Ambient scent here is an interior decision with no health, therapeutic, wellbeing or air-treatment claim of any kind, and no claim that it affects any business number. Dust and damp entering through a busy Vadodara entrance are cleaning, ventilation and door-fabric matters, never fragrance ones — fragrance does not remove, mask or cancel an odour. A note from Sonal

The first question I ask about a street-level office is not how big it is. It is where the door is and how often it moves. A room with a quiet door and a room with a door that swings two hundred times a day are two different physical problems even when the floor plan is the same, and only one of them can hold a level near the entrance.

What I will not do is give anybody a number. I have been asked plenty of times how many air changes an hour a door cycle produces, and the honest answer is that it depends on the door, the corridor, the pressure, the air conditioning and whether it is June or January outside. I can tell you what the air does. I cannot tell you by how much, and neither can anybody else who has not stood in your lobby.

The fix that people are least willing to hear is the best one: build a vestibule. A second door, an internal lobby, even a screen that stops the entrance opening straight onto the seating. It costs more than a diffuser and it does more than a diffuser, and it also keeps the dust and the monsoon out. After that, placement and a run window. Mountain Breeze at ₹849 placed deep, or SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 on timers if the floor is large enough to need one. Never a higher setting. That one has never worked for anybody.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a constantly opening door affect ambient scenting?
Enough to decide where the source goes and when it runs. Each opening exchanges the air nearest the door, so the first metre or two inside the entrance cannot hold a stable level, and your air is pushed outward into the corridor at the same time. No honest figure can be given for your building from a webpage — it depends on the door, the pressure and the weather.
Should I increase the intensity to cope with the door traffic?
No. A level high enough to survive the busiest hour is far too high for the same room when the door is shut, which is exactly when your longest appointments happen. The correct answer is a low fixed level plus a schedule, with the level judged at the quietest hour of the day rather than the busiest.
Where should the source sit in an office with a busy entrance?
Roughly two-thirds of the way into the room, away from the door swing and out of the direct path of the air-conditioning return, at seating height or a little above. A reed such as Mountain Breeze at ₹849 needs no power point, which is often the practical reason it can be placed correctly when a machine cannot.
Does a vestibule or air curtain really help?
It is the single most effective change available, and it is building fabric rather than a product. A double door, an internal lobby, an air curtain or even a screen that stops the entrance opening straight onto the seating gives the room a buffer instead of a border — and it keeps street dust and monsoon damp out of the lounge as well.
Is a scheduled run window better than running all day?
On a door-driven floor, usually yes. Establishing the register before the first appointment while the door is still, holding it through the quieter middle of the day and switching off after the last client uses less fragrance and produces a steadier room. SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 has 1h/4h/8h/24h timers and a key-lock for exactly this.

About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Product recommendations reflect the SOSA range; the planning advice applies to any brand.

Facts verified 5 September 2026 against the live SOSA product pages: the SOSA reed diffusers are alcohol-free, phthalate-free and paraben-free compositions on a heat-stable coconut-derived base, supplied in a refillable glass bottle with six fibre reeds, flipped weekly, with 50ml lasting 6-8 weeks and 130ml lasting 14-18 weeks, tested at 45°C and 85% relative humidity - Mountain Breeze ₹849 / ₹1,349, Morning Freshness ₹749 / ₹1,249, Evening Calm ₹799 / ₹1,299. The SOSA Sukoon (₹1,899) is an ultrasonic cool-mist diffuser covering about 270-320 sq ft for 16-18 hours on the low setting and supplied with three 15ml Hotel Collection fragrances; being ultrasonic, it works by aerosolising water and therefore adds some moisture to the air, which is worth weighing in a warm, high-occupancy room. The SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, described by the manufacturer as approximately 2,000-3,000 sq ft, with a 400ml refillable tank lasting roughly 75-90 days a fill depending on intensity and run hours, Bluetooth app and onboard button control, 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, adjustable intensity, operation under 38dB, DC 12V/1A at 5W (roughly 1.5 units of electricity a month on a ten-hour daily schedule, and tariffs vary), freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting, auto-stop and key-lock, and CE, RoHS and SGS certification - which are electrical and compliance marks, not medical approval. Being waterless, it adds no moisture and leaves no residue on surfaces or equipment; refill availability should be confirmed with SOSA. The SOSA Angaan (₹25,999) is an HVAC nebulising diffuser rated to 3,000m³, roughly 8,000-10,000 sq ft, with an 800ml reservoir, metal body, programmable schedules and operation under 42dB. Coverage figures are volumetric, so ceiling height changes the floor area a machine genuinely serves. SOSA products are not medical devices and no health, therapeutic, wellbeing or air-treatment claim is made or implied anywhere in this guide, and nothing here claims that ambient scent affects sales, orders, enquiries, footfall, conversion or any other business number - no one can promise that, and this guide does not. Ambient scent is an interior decision that works alongside cleaning, ventilation, air handling and housekeeping and is never a substitute for any of them, and SOSA sells no deodoriser, purifier, dehumidifier or extractor. Ventilation rates, plant and laboratory air handling, pressure regimes, HVAC filtration and any decision about where a fragrance source may or may not be placed on a regulated site are matters for the company's own engineering, QA and EHS teams. Clinical, treatment and procedure areas are left completely unscented. Fragrance sensitivity is real: staff should be able to switch any system off in seconds, and no SOSA product is described as hypoallergenic or as safe for sensitive individuals. The hotel-inspired scents are SOSA's own original interpretations; SOSA is an independent brand and is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, any hotel named for reference. Coverage, fragrance usage and running cost depend on the space, settings and hours of use, and are confirmed on a consultation. Prices and availability are subject to change - see the live product pages.
