What people actually mean by a hotel scent
I have been asked for this hundreds of times and almost nobody can name a note in it, which is the most useful clue there is. When a guest describes a lobby as smelling expensive, they are rarely responding to an unusual material. They are responding to three ordinary decisions taken consistently: one scent, kept low, and never changed. The register is usually white and clean — tea, a pale floral, a dry cedar, a touch of musk — and it is deliberately held below the level at which you could describe it. That restraint is the whole effect, and it is available in any home for the price of removing two reeds.

Jasmine, indole, and why an Indian summer matters
There is a specific reason jasmine divides households, and it is chemical rather than aesthetic. Jasmine contains indole, which occurs naturally in the flower and is a large part of what makes a real jasmine smell alive rather than like a soap. Above a certain concentration, though, indole reads as animalic and unclean — and perception of it shifts upward in heat. Most people in India have met a jasmine product that went wrong in April or May, felt vaguely that it had turned, and never had a word for what happened. That is the word.
In Garden Bloom the indole is deliberately held below that threshold, which is why the jasmine stays floral above 30°C rather than becoming heavy and slightly dirty in the way a cheaper jasmine does. That decision is invisible on a note list and it is most of the reason the scent survives an Indian summer in a room without air conditioning. The second half of jasmine's survival in this climate is the carrier underneath it. Most reed diffusers sit on DPG, which can crack and turn bitter above about 40°C — an ordinary afternoon in a great deal of India, and the actual mechanism behind a diffuser going sour by May. Two systems, and why they cannot be mixed
This needs saying plainly, because it is the commonest misunderstanding we receive and it costs people money. There is no hotel-inspired reed diffuser at SOSA. The seven Hotel Collection scents — including the Westin-inspired White Tea Serenity and the Ritz-Carlton-inspired Quiet Luxury — are water-based and formulated for an ultrasonic machine. They cannot go into a reed bottle, and reed oil cannot go into an ultrasonic machine. These are two different physical systems, and mixing them in either direction either damages the machine or simply does nothing in the reeds. The 15ml Hotel Collection bottle at ₹299 is a refill for hardware, not an inexpensive way to try the scent.
So if the literal hotel scent is what you are after, the honest route is Sukoon at ₹1,899 — a 500ml tank, 270–320 sq ft of coverage, 16 to 18 hours on the low setting, with three 15ml Hotel Collection scents included. In a household like yours it has one advantage worth naming above all the others: it can be switched off. You can run your register for the hours you are in the room and leave the shared air alone the rest of the time, which is a genuinely different negotiating position from a reed that runs continuously and cannot be turned down.
It also has real costs, and I would rather you heard them from me. A machine has to be filled with water, plugged in, switched on and cleaned; it has a running cost in oil that a reed does not have on the same schedule; and it scents nothing while it is off. A reed asks none of that and gives you no control at all. Neither is universally the better purchase. For a shared living room in use most of the evening, the reed wins on effort. Jasmine was the hardest decision in the whole range and the reason is indole. It is the material that makes a jasmine smell like a living flower rather than like a description of one, and it is also the material that ruins jasmine products in an Indian April. Take too much out and you get something clean and lifeless that nobody's mother recognises. Leave too much in and by May the room smells wrong in a way people cannot articulate but definitely notice. Holding it just below that threshold is the entire craft of the scent, and it is not visible anywhere on the label.
What surprised me is how often the person who says they want a hotel scent turns out to be perfectly happy with Garden Bloom at three reeds. The register they are imagining is white and quiet, and a restrained jasmine sambac with a musk base is squarely inside it. What they are not happy with is a floral at full projection in a small room, which is a different objection and one I would raise before anyone spends ₹799.
And I would rather lose the sale than let you buy a ₹299 Hotel Collection bottle expecting to pour it into reeds. It is a refill for a machine.
