Evening Calm ₹799
Morning Freshness ₹749
Day & Night duo ₹1,498
Misty Mornings candle ₹379
Oil refill 300ml ₹2,399
Why: there is no off switch. Output is continuous whether the door is open, shut or locked. A closed room does not bank the fragrance for later.
What three bottles cost against two. ₹749 + ₹799 + ₹799 = ₹2,347, against ₹1,498 for the Day & Night duo. You are ₹849 better off.
For the guest weekend: a jar candle at ₹379 lit for an hour, or carry a bottle in that morning. An occasional room wants an occasional product.
2. The reason is that output is continuous and occupancy is not a setting. A reed diffuser has no switch. Behind a closed door it runs at the same rate it would in your living room, for the same six to eight weeks, and every millilitre of it is spent on nobody.
3. The arithmetic, plainly. A 50ml at ₹799 replaced every seven weeks is about seven bottles a year: ₹799 × 7 = ₹5,593. That is the annual cost of scenting a room you enter to fetch a suitcase.
4. Buy per place you stop moving. Not per door on the plan. Passages, spare rooms, balconies and store rooms are places you pass through; a passive, low, constant product needs somebody stationary to register it.
5. The saving is ₹849 and it is real. Three 50ml bottles come to ₹749 + ₹799 + ₹799 = ₹2,347. The Day & Night duo is ₹1,498 for the two you need.
6. Spend part of it on duration instead, if you want to spend it. Evening Calm 130ml at ₹1,299 in the used bedroom runs 14–18 weeks against 6–8. One room done properly beats three done thinly.
7. For guests, buy an event rather than a subscription. A jar candle at ₹379 lit for an hour before they arrive, or carry your living-room bottle in that morning — upright, on its tray, reeds in.
Everything is composed and handmade in small batches in Pune, tested through 45°C summer heat and 85% monsoon humidity, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Part one — why an unused room is the worst place for a bottle
People buy a third bottle for a spare bedroom out of tidiness: three rooms, three bottles, done. It is the one purchase in this category with no upside at all, and the reason is a property of the product rather than a fact about your flat.
Evening Calm₹799 · 50mlWalk your flat and mark the places you are still for an hour or more: the bed, the sofa, perhaps a desk. In your home that list has two entries, possibly three. That list is your shopping list. The spare bedroom is not on it, and neither is the passage, the balcony or the store cupboard. This is a more useful count than square footage, because a reed diffuser's output is fixed and low: it rewards presence, not area. It is also the count that keeps a 2BHK's fragrance budget sensible — two bottles, replaced when they run out, rather than four running permanently in a home where two rooms are empty most of the day.Part two — where the money goes, room by room
A 2BHK with one bedroom in regular use, priced honestly. Every figure below is arithmetic on listed prices and typical bottle lifespans, not a guarantee.
| Room | Hours a week somebody is still in it | What a bottle there is doing | A year of running it | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| The bedroom you sleep in ★ | 50 or more | Holding a level in a small closed room — four reeds is usually right | ₹1,299 × 3 ≈ ₹3,897 on 130ml | Buy. This is the first bottle |
| Living room | 20–40 | The room you sit in and walk into from outside | ₹1,249 × 3 ≈ ₹3,747 on 130ml | Buy. This is the second |
| Spare bedroom, door shut | Under 1 | Releasing at full rate into an empty volume | ₹799 × 7 ≈ ₹5,593 on 50ml | No. The most expensive room per hour of use |
| Spare bedroom used as a store | Minutes | The same, plus a concentrated puff when opened | The same ₹5,593 | No. Open a window instead |
| Bathroom | 3–5, in short bursts | Small volume — two or three reeds, not six | Stretches a 50ml well past 8 weeks | Optional, and only after extraction |
| Passage between the bedrooms | Zero, by definition | Scenting air on its way somewhere else | Whatever you spend, wasted | No. Scent the destinations |
| The honest caveat: the annual figures are arithmetic on list prices and typical lifespans — 6–8 weeks at 50ml, 14–18 at 130ml, six reeds — not a quotation and not a promise. A bottle in a warm room finishes sooner; one at four reeds lasts longer. The point of the table is the ranking, which does not change: the room nobody sits in costs the most per hour of anyone's life spent inside it. | ||||

Part three — what the spare room actually needs
There is usually a reason behind this question, and it is rarely a wish for the spare room to smell lovely. It is that the room smells shut when you open it. That is stale air, and fragrance does not answer stale air — it adds a second thing to it. A room closed for a fortnight has had no exchange, so everything already in it stays: the cupboard, the mattress, the suitcase, the box of old curtains. Ten minutes of open window does more than any bottle, and costs nothing. If you want the room pleasant for a visitor, open it the morning before, take the bedding out for an airing, and light a candle for an hour in the evening. That sequence is the whole answer, and only the last step involves buying anything.
There is a version of this I will not sell to. If the smell in that room comes back a day or two after you have cleaned and aired it, something in there is still wet — and that is a moisture problem, not a fragrance problem. A wall that shares a bathroom, a window frame that lets rain track in, clothes dried indoors and put away not quite dry. SOSA sells no dehumidifier, no air purifier and nothing that addresses damp, and I would rather say so than let a bottle of oil stand near a building problem and take credit. Find what is wet, deal with it, then decide whether the room needs fragrance at all. Most do not.
The last thing worth naming is your own nose, because it is what turns a two-bottle home into a four-bottle one. You stop registering a constant smell in a room you live in, and the bedroom you sleep in is where that happens hardest. The temptation is to conclude the bottle has failed and buy another for somewhere else. Before spending, run the free checks: leave the flat for an hour and walk back in, or ask whoever visits next what they notice. Remember too that the first three days of a new bottle are the loudest it will ever be — freshly soaked reeds, top notes leaving at once — and the settled plateau that follows is the product working, not fading. If after all that the used bedroom genuinely reads quiet, the fix is a flip of the reeds, then a move of the bottle, and only then a purchase.
Part four — what to do with the third bottle's money
You had ₹2,347 in mind for three bottles. Six better things to do with it, all cheaper or more useful.
| What you were about to buy | What I would do instead | What it costs | What actually changes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Three 50ml — ₹749 + ₹799 + ₹799 = ₹2,347 ★ | Day & Night duo for the two rooms you use | ₹1,498 — you keep ₹849 | Nothing is lost. One empty room stops being scented |
| A third bottle for the spare bedroom | Evening Calm 130ml in the bedroom you sleep in | ₹1,299 + ₹749 living room = ₹2,048 | 14–18 weeks instead of 6–8 where you sleep |
| Something for guests, running all year | A jar candle at ₹379, lit an hour before they arrive | ₹379, used six times a year | An event when you want one, nothing when you do not |
| Two more bottles later, at full price | Put the ₹849 towards the 300ml oil refill when your two run out | ₹2,399 ≈ 8–11 months | Roughly ₹7–8 per ml against ₹15–17 |
| Scenting the passage between the bedrooms | Nothing. A passage is not a room | ₹0 | The bottles stay where people sit |
| Three bottles on a tight budget | One 50ml at ₹799 in the bedroom you use, and stop there | ₹799 | One room done properly beats three done thinly |
Versailles
This is a page that costs SOSA a bottle every time somebody reads it, and I would rather publish it than not. The third bottle in a 2BHK is the single most common unnecessary purchase in home fragrance, and it is unnecessary for a reason nobody explains at the point of sale: our product cannot be switched off.
When we set the range up, the passive, continuous design was a deliberate choice. No socket, no fan, no heat, nothing to remember. The consequence is that a reed diffuser only makes sense where a person is. It is why I talk about counting the rooms you stop moving in rather than the rooms on the plan — that count is almost always smaller, and it is almost always right.
If the spare room bothers you, the answer is air rather than fragrance. Open it, let it breathe for ten minutes, take the bedding out occasionally. If it still smells of something a day later, look for what is wet before you look at a shop. And when guests come, light a candle for an hour — an occasional room deserves an occasional pleasure, not a subscription. Made in small batches in Pune, and a part of every order funds a girl's classroom through Nanhi Kali.

A reed diffuser adds fragrance to a room. It does not clean, purify or filter air, remove or neutralise cooking, damp or smoke smells, reduce humidity, or change how anyone feels. A reed diffuser adds no moisture to the air; ultrasonic machines work by aerosolising water and therefore do. A persistent musty smell indicates moisture that needs finding and drying, and SOSA sells no dehumidifier or air purifier. Ventilate or extract first; add fragrance second. Evaporation rate rises with warmth and falls with humidity, and airflow carries scent away from the bottle — so performance varies with season, ventilation, ceiling height and room use; longevity figures are typical ranges, not guarantees. Not noticing a constant fragrance is ordinary olfactory adaptation; the reliable checks are leaving the room and returning, or asking someone who has just arrived. Strength figures are positions on SOSA’s own internal scale, not an industry standard. Fragrance oil is flammable — keep bottles away from open flame and out of direct sunlight, and out of reach of children and pets.
