I am not going to spend a paragraph telling you that a good oud is different, or that the one you smelled was probably synthetic. You know what you smelled. What I owe you instead is a number, because the number is the whole answer and it is not a flattering one for my own shelf.
Quick answers — read this first
How many SOSA attars actually contain oud?Three of the four. That is the arithmetic and I would rather put it in the first screen than let you work it out at checkout. Nawaab is built on white royal oud. Ameeri carries a soft oudh under its rose and sandalwood. Mastani carries oudh too, beneath the jasmine and the rose. Adaa is the fourth, and Adaa has no oud at all - bergamot, green cardamom, neroli, jasmine sambac and white musk, with nothing resinous in the base.
So is there any choice here, or just the one bottle? Just the one bottle, and I will not dress that up as a range. If oud is out, Adaa is the only SOSA attar left standing - not the lightest of several options, the only one. The Pack of 3 at ₹1,055 makes this worse rather than better: it is Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani, which is to say it is exactly the three attars with oud in them and it does not include Adaa. For you it is the single worst purchase on the store.
What size, and what does it cost? The 3ml at ₹379, and nothing larger on a first order. SOSA sells no attar sampler and no discovery set, so the 3ml is the sample size - it is how you find out whether a bottle is yours without committing ₹1,149 to the answer. The 6ml is ₹669 and the 12ml is ₹1,149 once you know. Adaa carries jasmine sambac in a supporting role, and if florals are also out for you then none of our four is your bottle.
The short answer
Short answer: SOSA makes exactly four attars and three of them contain oud - Nawaab is white royal oud, Ameeri carries a soft oudh, Mastani carries oudh. Only Adaa has none, so for a reader who has ruled oud out there is one bottle in the range rather than a choice of them: Adaa, the 3ml at ₹379, because we sell no sampler and the 3ml is the sample size. The Pack of 3 at ₹1,055 is those other three attars and excludes Adaa entirely.
The pick: the 3ml of SOSA Adaa at ₹379 - bergamot, green cardamom, neroli, jasmine sambac and white musk, alcohol-free, and it wears 6-8 hours. If you would rather spray than dab, SOSA Khayaal (₹599 for 10ml) is a sparkling bergamot and neroli and SOSA Samundar (₹599 for 10ml) is an aquatic marine; neither of those is an attar and neither has oud.
Next step: send me the name of the oud you could not wear, and the note list off the box if you still have it, and I will tell you which of our four carry that note and how Adaa is built differently - Ask for an attar recommendation.
Line two is the whole page and it is a count, not an argument. Three attars come off your list because of what is in them, and the fourth is the one I am recommending.
SOSA Adaa - tap through and read the note list for the absence
Which attar should somebody buy if they have ruled oud out entirely?
SOSA Adaa, the 3ml, at ₹379 - and the reasoning here is arithmetic rather than persuasion, which is why I want to lead with it. SOSA makes exactly four attars: Adaa, Ameeri, Mastani and Nawaab. Three of those four contain oud, and only Adaa does not. I would rather you had that number in the first screen than discover it one bottle at a time. Nawaab is built on white royal oud, with Mysore sandalwood, Kashmir saffron, aged tobacco, leather and amber around it; the oud is the subject of the composition, not a trace in it, so it is the first thing off your list. Ameeri is Taif rose, real Indian sandalwood and Persian saffron over a soft oudh - softer than Nawaab's, but it is still oudh and it is still in the bottle, so it is out too. Mastani carries night-blooming jasmine, Damask rose, Mysore sandalwood, oudh, vanilla and tonka, which puts it out on the same ground. And the Pack of 3 at ₹1,055 is Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani - exactly those three, and it does not include Adaa. It is the one multi-bottle purchase we sell and it is the worst thing on the store for you. That leaves Adaa, which is not the lightest of several options but the only option: bergamot and green cardamom on top, neroli and jasmine sambac in the heart, white musk in the base. There is nothing resinous down there where an oud would normally sit, which is the structural reason it reads clean rather than dense. It is an alcohol-free perfume oil with no DPG carriers on a skin-safe jojoba and sandalwood base, composed by an ISIPCA Versailles-trained perfumer and hand-blended in Pune, and it wears 6-8 hours, which is the only longevity figure we publish. Buy the 3ml at ₹379 and nothing larger to begin with, because we sell no attar sampler and no discovery set, so the 3ml is the sample; the 6ml is ₹669 and the 12ml ₹1,149 once you are sure. Two disclosures, because you are entitled to both. Adaa carries jasmine sambac, in a supporting role rather than as the subject, and if jasmine is also on your no list then none of our four attars is your bottle and I will say so rather than sell you one. And this is a recommendation about preference and nothing more: SOSA publishes no outcome claim for a fragrance, because there is no honest way to measure one, and makes no health or skin-safety claim of any kind - how your skin behaves with anything is a question for a doctor, not for a perfumer.Ask for an attar recommendation and tell me which oud it was.
Three of SOSA's four attars contain oud - Nawaab's white royal oud, Ameeri's soft oudh, Mastani's oudh - and only Adaa has none, so the answer is the 3ml of Adaa at ₹379. The Pack of 3 at ₹1,055 is precisely the other three and excludes Adaa, which makes it the wrong purchase twice over.
The bottle is one SOSA Adaa - bergamot and green cardamom on top, neroli and jasmine sambac in the heart, white musk where an oud would otherwise sit. Alcohol-free, no DPG carriers, and it wears 6-8 hours. ₹379 for the 3ml, which is the size to start with, because we sell no sampler.
One attar, and one honest alternative if you would rather spray than dab. Both cards link through to the live listing so that you can read the note list yourself, which is the habit this page is really trying to hand over.
Bergamot and green cardamom on top, neroli and jasmine sambac in the heart, white musk in the base. The only one of our four attars with no oud in it, and the lightest thing we make for skin. Alcohol-free, no DPG carriers, on a skin-safe jojoba and sandalwood base, and it wears 6-8 hours. ₹379 for the 3ml.
Not an attar. This is our perfume line, and we describe it by its SOSA name and its accord only: a sparkling bergamot and neroli, with no oud in the accord. No note list and no wear figure is published for the perfume line, so if you need to verify an absence before buying, stay with the attars, where every note is printed. ₹599 for 10ml.
3ml, 6ml and 12ml at ₹379, ₹669 and ₹1,149. Published notes: bergamot, green cardamom, neroli, jasmine sambac and white musk. An alcohol-free perfume oil with no DPG carriers on a skin-safe jojoba and sandalwood base, composed by an ISIPCA Versailles-trained perfumer and hand-blended in Pune. It wears 6-8 hours, which is the only longevity figure SOSA publishes. Positioned for office hours and daytime weddings. No oud, no vanilla, no rose.
Three steps, and the first one is the only one that involves me changing my behaviour rather than yours.
1
Take the dislike at face value
An oud you could not wear is information, not a gap in your education
The letters I get about oud nearly always contain a defensive clause. Somebody tells me they cannot bear it and then adds that it was probably a cheap one, or that they are being unsophisticated about a serious material. Neither is my business and neither changes the answer. I have never found it useful to argue with a person about what their own nose reported, and I am not going to tell you that a well-aged agarwood would have gone differently. What the dislike does is eliminate, fast: one sentence from you takes three of my four attars off the table before I have asked you anything else. That is a better brief than most people manage after half an hour at a counter.
Tip: If you still have the bottle, read the last three notes on the box. Oud is a base material and that is where it will be listed.
One bottle of Adaa from ₹379 is the whole purchase here.
Count the range rather than trusting the adjectives
Three of four is the real figure, and the listings will tell you so if you read the base
A range described as varied can still be one material wearing four hats. Ours is not quite that bad, but it is close enough that I say the number out loud: of four attars, three carry oud. Nawaab announces it in its own positioning, so nobody is caught out there. Ameeri and Mastani are the ones that catch people, because the first notes you read are rose, sandalwood, saffron, jasmine - and the oudh is further down, doing structural work under all of it. That is normal composition practice rather than concealment, but it does mean a quick glance at the top of a note list will not protect you. Read to the bottom of it.
Tip: Soft oudh and oudh are the same note at different doses. Neither is oud-free, and neither should be read as a trace.
One bottle of Adaa from ₹379 is the whole purchase here.
Then buy the one that is left, in the smallest size
One attar survives the subtraction, and the 3ml is how you test it
Adaa is what is standing: bergamot, green cardamom, neroli, jasmine sambac, white musk. The absence you care about is in the base, where white musk sits instead of a resin, which is why the drydown stays dry and thin rather than getting darker as the hours pass. Buy the 3ml at ₹379. We sell no sampler and no discovery set, so the small bottle is the test, and the Pack of 3 at ₹1,055 is not a sampler either - it is three full-size attars, all three of them the ones with oud. Wear the 3ml for a full day and judge the last two hours rather than the first ten minutes, because the last two hours are the part you will live with.
One bottle of Adaa from ₹379 is the whole purchase here.
Three of SOSA's four attars contain oud and only Adaa does not, which makes an oud dislike the most efficient sentence a reader can send me.
It is not a preference I have to interpret. It is a subtraction that removes three quarters of my own shelf in one move, and I would rather say the fraction than imply a choice.
The absence, stated plainly: SOSA Adaa has no oud, no oudh and nothing resinous in its base - white musk instead. ₹379 for the 3ml.
Here is the same subtraction as a table, useful the next time you are reading anybody's attar listing rather than ours.
The SOSA shortlist
What each SOSA attar carries, and why three of the four come off your list
The bottle
What to do
Nawaab
White royal oud with Mysore sandalwood, Kashmir saffron, aged tobacco, leather and amber. The oud is the subject of the composition, so this is the first one off your list and the heaviest thing we make for skin.
Ameeri
Taif rose, real Indian sandalwood and Persian saffron over a soft oudh. Soft is a dose, not an absence, so it is still oud and it is still out.
Mastani
Night-blooming jasmine, Damask rose, Mysore sandalwood, oudh, vanilla and tonka. Out on the oudh alone, before the vanilla and tonka are even discussed.
Pack of 3, ₹1,055
Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani, and no Adaa. The three attars with oud, sold together. The worst possible first order for a reader with your one firm rule.
Adaa
Bergamot, green cardamom, neroli, jasmine sambac, white musk. No oud anywhere in it, and white musk in the base where a resin would otherwise sit. ₹379 for the 3ml.
If you want a spray instead
Khayaal is a sparkling bergamot and neroli on our perfume line at ₹599 for 10ml, and it is not an attar. Notes are not published for that line, so buy it on the accord.
If what is actually bothering you is that the word attar and the word oud have fused together in your head, that is a separate and better question, and it is answered in are all attars heavy and oud-based, which takes the myth as a claim and tests it against our own shelf. And if you have already decided and just want the decision page with the full rule-out list printed on it, that is which SOSA attar to buy if oud is the one note you absolutely do not want. SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house and every attar named here is its own composition.
Three attars off the list by name: Nawaab is white royal oud, Ameeri carries a soft oudh and Mastani carries oudh, so all three are ruled out for you rather than recommended.
SOSA makes exactly four attars, and on a page like this one I would rather publish the whole count with the awkward part attached than hand you a shortlist. Three of the four carry oud; the one that does not is below, with the two products on our perfume line that are the honest route if an oil is not what you want. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
The SOSA attar specification
One attar with no oud, and two non-attar alternatives
Bergamot, green cardamom, neroli, jasmine sambac and white musk - the only one of the four attars with no oud, no oudh and nothing resinous in the base. Alcohol-free, no DPG carriers, wears 6-8 hours. Buy the 3ml first
Our perfume line, named by SOSA name and accord only: a sparkling bergamot and neroli. No note list and no wear figure is published for it, so buy it on the accord or stay with the attars where the notes are printed
The count is the argument on this page, so here it is once more with the limits attached. SOSA makes exactly four attars and three of them contain oud - Nawaab, Ameeri and Mastani are all ruled out here by name, and so is the Pack of 3, which is those same three. The only longevity figure SOSA publishes is that the attars wear 6-8 hours; nothing is published for the perfume line or for the solid body perfumes, so no figure is given for them here, and no note list is published for the solids at all, which is why this page never tells you how one of them smells. SOSA publishes no outcome claim for a fragrance, because there is no honest way to measure one - nothing about being noticed, nothing about confidence - and makes no health or skin-safety claim of any kind, because how your skin behaves with a material is a question for a doctor rather than for a perfumer. Free shipping above ₹499 is the only other thing I will promise you. Ask for an attar recommendation before you spend anything.

A note from Sonal
The oud letters are the most apologetic ones I get. People tell me they cannot wear it and then immediately explain themselves: it must have been a cheap one, or they know it is supposed to be the serious material and they are sorry. Nobody owes me an explanation for a smell. And in this particular case the apology is doubly unnecessary, because the sentence you are apologising for has just done three quarters of my work for me.
Oud is a base material. It is heavy, it evaporates slowly and it holds a composition together from underneath, which is exactly why it is used and exactly why it is hard to escape once it is in a bottle. That also means it hides on a listing: the notes printed first are the bright ones, and the oudh is further down doing the structural work. Ameeri reads as rose and sandalwood at the top of its note list and carries a soft oudh at the bottom of it. Mastani reads as jasmine and rose and carries oudh too. Neither is concealing anything - that is just how a note list is ordered - but it does mean a glance will not protect you and the bottom two notes are the ones to read first.
So my answer is one bottle and the smallest size of it: Adaa at ₹379 for 3ml, because we sell no sampler and the 3ml is how you test an attar without committing ₹1,149 to a guess. I am ruling out Nawaab for its white royal oud, Ameeri for its soft oudh, Mastani for its oudh, and the Pack of 3 for being all three of them in one box with Adaa left out. Adaa does carry jasmine sambac, and I would rather you heard that from me than found it out at home. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Frequently asked questions
I hate oud - which attar should I try instead?
SOSA Adaa, and buy the 3ml at Rs 379. SOSA makes exactly four attars and three of them contain oud: Nawaab is built on white royal oud, Ameeri carries a soft oudh and Mastani carries oudh. Adaa is the only one with none, and it is bergamot, green cardamom, neroli, jasmine sambac and white musk. Adaa does carry jasmine sambac in a supporting role, which is worth knowing before you order if florals are also out for you.
Do Ameeri and Mastani really count as oud attars?
Yes, for your purposes. Ameeri's listing describes a soft oudh and Mastani's lists oudh outright, and soft describes a dose rather than an absence. Both notes sit low in the composition, under the rose and the jasmine, which is why a glance at the first two notes on either listing will not warn you. If you have ruled oud out as a material, both bottles are out, and I would rather rule them out for you here than have you decide that at home.
Is the Pack of 3 a cheaper way to find out which one I like?
Not for you. The Pack of 3 at Rs 1,055 is Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani, which is exactly the three SOSA attars that contain oud, and it does not include Adaa at all. It is also not a sampler: it is three full-size bottles. SOSA sells no attar sampler and no discovery set, so the honest way to try one is the 3ml of a single attar, which is Rs 379 for Adaa.
What is actually in Adaa's base, if not oud?
White musk. A note list is ordered by how slowly the materials evaporate, so the base is what you are still wearing hours later, and in Adaa that base is a dry musk rather than a resin. Bergamot and green cardamom sit on top and are gone inside half an hour; neroli and jasmine sambac hold in the middle. The published wear figure is 6-8 hours, and that is the only longevity figure SOSA publishes for anything.
Is there anything at SOSA without oud that is not an attar?
Two things on the SOSA perfume line, and SOSA refers to both by its own name and its accord only. Khayaal is a sparkling bergamot and neroli, and Samundar is an aquatic marine; both are Rs 599 for 10ml and neither has oud in its accord. No note list and no longevity figure is published for the perfume line, so if you need to verify an absence before buying, stay with the attars, where every note is printed.
And the Pack of 3 is not a shortcut: At ₹1,055 it is Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani, which is exactly the three with oud, and Adaa is not in it. Buy the single 3ml instead.
SOSA — Attars and Perfume Oilsfor a reader who has ruled oud out entirely
SOSA Adaa (₹379 for 3ml, ₹669 for 6ml, ₹1,149 for 12ml) is bergamot, green cardamom, neroli, jasmine sambac and white musk - the only one of SOSA's four attars with no oud in it. Alcohol-free, no DPG carriers, hand-blended in Pune, and it wears 6-8 hours, which is the only longevity figure SOSA publishes. Nawaab, Ameeri, Mastani and the Pack of 3 are all ruled out on this page by name, and Adaa's jasmine sambac is disclosed rather than buried. Send me the oud you could not wear and I will tell you where that note sits in our four. Free shipping above ₹499, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. The products named are SOSA's own; the method - shop the note you have ruled out, not the note you hope for - applies to any brand.
Facts verified 17 September 2026 against the live SOSA product pages: SOSA makes four attars, each sold in three sizes, 3ml, 6ml and 12ml. SOSA Adaa is ₹379, ₹669 and ₹1,149, with published notes of bergamot, green cardamom, neroli, jasmine sambac and white musk. SOSA Ameeri is ₹385, ₹679 and ₹1,165, with published notes of Taif rose, Indian sandalwood, Persian saffron and soft oudh. SOSA Mastani is ₹389, ₹685 and ₹1,179, with published notes of night-blooming jasmine, Damask rose, Mysore sandalwood, oudh, vanilla and tonka. SOSA Nawaab is ₹399, ₹699 and ₹1,199, with published notes of white royal oud, Mysore sandalwood, Kashmir saffron, aged tobacco, leather and amber. All four are alcohol-free perfume oils with no DPG carriers, on a skin-safe jojoba and sandalwood base, composed by an ISIPCA Versailles-trained perfumer and hand-blended in Pune, and the only longevity figure SOSA publishes for them is that they wear 6-8 hours. The Pack of 3 (₹1,055, ₹1,859 and ₹3,189) is Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani, and it does not include Adaa. The SOSA perfume line - including Khayaal and Samundar - comes in 10ml, 50ml and 100ml and is referred to on these pages by its SOSA name and its accord only. SOSA publishes no note list and no longevity figure for the solid body perfumes or for the perfume line, so neither is given here, and how a solid body perfume smells is never described. SOSA sells no attar sampler and no discovery set, which is why the 3ml is the sample size and is what these pages recommend buying first. Free shipping above ₹499 is the only logistics fact stated on these pages. Choosing a fragrance is a matter of preference: SOSA makes no health, skin-safety, hypoallergenic, therapeutic or wellbeing claim for any fragrance, makes no claim about compliments, confidence or any other outcome of wearing one, and offers nothing here as medical advice - a reaction on skin is a conversation for a doctor rather than for a perfumer.
