A big room does not need a stronger oil - it needs more of it, and more surface area carrying it. I am Sonal, the perfumer behind SOSA, and the single most common mistake I see is a small 50ml bottle with a couple of reeds trying to scent an open-plan living-dining space. Below is how I would actually choose a long-lasting reed diffuser for a large room in India - when to size up to 130ml, how many reeds to run, and when two units beat one.
How many reeds should I use in a big room? Use the full set, or close to it. More reeds means a stronger throw across a larger volume of air. Fewer reeds last longer but will struggle to fill an open-plan room.
Is one diffuser enough for a large open-plan space? Often not. For a long living-dining room, two 130ml units placed at opposite ends scent the space far more evenly than one bottle working overtime in a corner.
Start by sizing up. For any large or open room, choose the 130ml (₹1249-₹1349) rather than the 50ml - the bigger reservoir feeds more reeds for longer, which is exactly what an open volume of air demands. Then run the full reed set, not two or three reeds, so the throw actually reaches across the space. And if the room is truly open-plan - a long living-dining run, say - put two 130ml units at opposite ends rather than asking one bottle to do an impossible job from a corner. A scent like Garden Bloom works beautifully here. The principle is simple: large rooms need more oil, more reeds, and sometimes more units - not a louder formula.
Big room maths: 130ml over 50ml, full reed set over a few, two units over one for open-plan. More oil and more surface area, never a stronger formula.
Sizing the diffuser to the room
The biggest decision happens before you ever uncap the bottle: matching the reservoir to the volume of air you are trying to scent. Get this right and everything else follows.
| Room | Size | Reeds |
|---|---|---|
| Small bedroom or study | 50ml | 2-3 |
| Average living room | 50ml or 130ml | 4 |
| Large or open-plan room | 130ml | Full set |
| Very large / multiple zones | 2 x 130ml | Full set each |
In peak Indian summer the room itself works against you - a 50ml lasts roughly 6 to 8 weeks at around 45°C even in a modest space, and a draughty open room pulls scent away faster still. That is the real argument for the 130ml: not a louder scent, but enough fuel to stay long-lasting in a demanding room.
Reeds, placement and multiple units
Once the size is right, the rest is about surface area and position. A reed diffuser scents the air immediately around it and lets the room circulate the rest, so where you put it matters as much as how many reeds you use.

Versailles
I trained as a perfumer at ISIPCA in Versailles, and when I came home to India I kept noticing the same thing on the shelves: lovely bottles, vague labels. Nobody would tell you what the carrier was, or name the notes.
So SOSA reed diffusers use a disclosed CCT coconut-derived carrier, are phthalate-free and IFRA-aligned, name their top, heart and base notes, and are tested in real Indian heat and humidity - not a mild lab climate. Flame-free, heatless, electricity-free, built from real materials.
I would rather you used this guide to buy well than to buy ours by reflex. If another brand discloses its carrier and names its materials, buy it happily. I just think you deserve to know what is scenting your home.
Frequently asked questions
The 130ml (₹1249-₹1349), not the 50ml. A larger reservoir feeds a full set of reeds for weeks, which is what an open room needs. The whole range comes in both sizes.
Use the full set, or close to it. Each reed is a wick, so more reeds means a stronger throw across more air. Fewer reeds last longer but cannot fill an open space.
Often yes. For a long living-dining room or two connected zones, two 130ml units at opposite ends scent the room far more evenly than one bottle in a corner - and it is gentler on each unit.
It depends on heat, draughts and reed count. Running a full set in a big, warm room uses oil faster, but the 130ml holds enough to stay long-lasting where a 50ml would fade. Keep it out of sun and away from AC vents to stretch it.
They are phthalate-free, IFRA-aligned, flame-free and heatless, so there is nothing to switch off. Like any fragrance product they emit some VOCs, so ventilate the room. I make no medical claims.
