The same scent does three completely different jobs in three parts of a store, and only one of them involves being noticed.
Quick answers — read this first
How should fragrance be distributed across a jewellery store? One register throughout at three descending levels - the entrance where it is judged, the display floor as background, and the private cabins lowest of all.

Why does the cabin get the least? Because it holds people for an hour or more behind a closed door with the least air movement, and intensity should be set inversely to exposure time.

Should the entrance be stronger than the floor? No - the same or very slightly less. It is where the only unadapted nose in the building is, so it needs accuracy rather than strength.
The short answer
Short answer: One register, three descending levels: entrance judged, floor ignored, cabin endured. The best room gets the least.
The pick: the SOSA Safar (₹3,999) as the flagship delivery gift; volume gifts from ₹299; reed diffusers from ₹749; the Vaayu (₹11,999) for your own premises.

Customer gifting that compounds - the SOSA method at a glanceStep 1 - gift the moment: delivery day, possession, checkout, milestone purchaseStep 2 - set the per-unit band: ₹299 to ₹3,999 by customer valueStep 3 - brand the gesture: your card, your story, our fragranceStep 4 - pilot small, then scale to 50, 100, 500 unitsWhatsApp the bulk desk for volume pricing
A customer gift works when it survives the drive home - sweets vanish in a day and keychains join a drawer, but a fragrance is used daily in the customer's own car or living room, replaying your brand at every use. The method: gift the milestone moment, set the per-unit band by customer value, brand the gesture with your card, pilot and scale. This guide walks the exact play, with real SOSA options at every band.
Straight answer
How should fragrance be distributed between the entrance, display floor and private cabins?
Three areas, three completely different duties, one register, three descending levels. The entrance is where the register is judged, because it holds the only unadapted nose in the building - everyone who has been inside for an hour has stopped perceiving the background, so the first six seconds are the whole of the accurate assessment. It needs accuracy, not strength: clean and cool, identical at ten in the morning and seven in the evening, and no stronger than the floor. The display floor is background, and its duty is simply that nobody standing at a counter is thinking about it. That is a moving customer for ten or fifteen minutes, so it takes the middle setting. The private cabin is endured - an hour or more, seated, behind a closed door, with the least air movement in the building - so it takes the lowest level in the store. That is the counter-intuitive result worth stating plainly: the most important room gets the least fragrance, because intensity runs inversely to exposure time. And never change register between them: clients cross those thresholds repeatedly, and a change of subject at a doorway reads as something being slightly wrong. Hotel Collection from ₹299, SOSA Megh ₹3,499, SOSA Boond ₹799. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.

Three areas, three duties, and the important room gets the least

The useful way to plan distribution across a jewellery store is to notice that the same fragrance is doing three entirely different jobs in three places, and that only one of those jobs involves being perceived at all. Take them in the order a client meets them. The entrance is where the register is judged, and it is the only place in the building where that judgement is accurate. Everybody who has been inside for an hour has adapted to the background and stopped perceiving it - staff first thing in the morning, customers within minutes of arriving. So the only unadapted nose in the store belongs to somebody who has just come in from the street, and the first six seconds of their visit is the whole of the accurate assessment the store will ever receive. That changes what the entrance is for. It does not need to be stronger than the rest of the store, which is the usual instinct and the usual mistake; it needs to be right. Clean and cool rather than scented. Identical at ten in the morning and seven in the evening, because the store cannot control which six seconds any given client gets. And free of anything arriving from elsewhere - an entrance is where a pantry, a washroom or a strongroom corridor most often makes itself known, because the client's nose is working properly at that moment and nowhere else. Warm Welcome, with citrus, floral and sandalwood, is the most overtly welcoming register we make and is well placed at a door. Quiet Luxury, with white tea, bergamot and cedar, is the safest choice and works at the entrance and throughout. Tea Garden, with jasmine, green tea and white tea, does the same job with a soft green-floral character. The display floor has a completely different duty, which is to be background. Its success condition is that nobody standing at a counter is thinking about it. The customer here is moving, is present for ten or fifteen minutes, is being spoken to at close range, and is looking at something they may spend a great deal on - so the fragrance's job is to make the room feel well kept and then to get out of the way. That is the middle setting of the three, and it is the one most stores over-specify, usually because the unit ends up on a counter where there is a socket and where filling is convenient. That placement puts the strongest air in the building precisely where a staff member stands all day and where every customer leans in over a tray, which is the worst geometry there is. Find where the air actually moves with the cooling running, and place the unit in that path but away from where anybody is stationed. The private cabin is the third duty and the most misunderstood. Here the fragrance is not judged and not background - it is endured. A client sits in that room for an hour or more, seated, behind a closed door, in the smallest volume with the least air movement in the building, often with several other people. The salesperson may be in it for the whole trading day. Everything about that argues downwards, and the governing rule is that intensity should be set inversely to exposure time. So the cabin takes the lowest level anywhere in the store. That is worth saying plainly because it will be argued with in almost every store: the most important room gets the least fragrance. The instinct is that the premium room deserves more of everything, and fragrance is the one layer that runs the other way. Two more cabin-specific points. It should run continuously rather than being switched on for appointments, because a room prepared shortly before a client arrives smells of having been prepared, and detectable preparation is the opposite of what a private room is trying to say. And a machine cannot cross a closed door, so the cabin is its own zone by definition and needs its own provision regardless of what is on the floor - reeds are frequently the best answer here at Rs 749 to Rs 849, three to four months from a bottle, refills at Rs 2,399 for 300ml and Rs 3,499 for 500ml, because they hold a low continuous level with nothing to schedule and nothing to switch on. Now the rule that ties the three together: one register throughout, varying only the level. Clients cross those thresholds repeatedly during a visit - into the store, onto the floor, into the cabin, out to the washroom, back again - and each crossing is a comparison, made with a nose partly adapted to the space just left. A change of register at a doorway reads as a discontinuity rather than as a distinction; the client cannot name it and simply feels that something is slightly wrong, which is an expensive note to strike repeatedly during a large purchase. A change of level reads as a room getting quieter, which is exactly what a private room should do and which nobody questions. There is also an operational argument: two registers in one building means two consumables, two settings and a rota that has to remember which is which, and on the day somebody tops up from the nearest bottle you have both in one tank. Single-register buildings survive their own staff. Two more areas deserve a line. Circulation and corridors need nothing of their own; they are conduits rather than destinations, and they will carry whatever the connected spaces produce. And staff quarters, store rooms and utility areas get nothing at all. On hardware, the plan decides rather than the area: the Megh at Rs 3,499 with a 6L tank suits a substantial display floor and the Vaayu at Rs 11,999 a large open one - waterless with no tank, coverage up to 1,000 square metres or roughly 10,700 square feet, with Bluetooth app and timer control, which is what holds three different levels reliably across a trading day rather than letting them all drift together. The Sukoon at Rs 1,799 suits a large cabin and the Boond at Rs 799 a small one. Machines take the water-based Hotel Collection at three to six drops per tank with a rinse between scents, never reed oil, which can damage them. Set every level by walking in from the street with a fresh nose at the busiest hour and reading the first three or four seconds in each area - clean is right, scented is too high - and lower everything in humid months, because humid air carries fragrance more slowly and clears it less. Fix the sources first, and note that the entrance is where they surface: the pantry is never scented at any time, since cooking smell is aerosolised oil and extraction is the answer; the washroom needs a working extract; and an unserviced air conditioner will be smelled. Staff should have a physical off switch and never have to justify using it. We make no claim that fragrance affects mood, comfort, dwell time, purchase behaviour or spend. The seven registers are Rs 299 for 15ml, Rs 999 for 100ml and Rs 1,799 for 300ml, and they are SOSA's own interpretations - we are independent and not affiliated with, endorsed by or associated with any hotel brand. Everything is alcohol-free and made to IFRA-compliant standards, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Volume pricing is quoted against the specification on WhatsApp.

Why this works
The three duties
1 Entrance - the only unadapted nose. This is where it is judged 2 Display floor - background. Nobody should be thinking about it 3 Private cabin - endured for an hour. The lowest level in the store 4 One register throughout. Three levels, descending
The flagship delivery gift: the SOSA Safar at ₹3,999 - a rechargeable waterless car diffuser with three hotel-inspired scents in the box. Per-unit gifts from ₹299; volume pricing on WhatsApp.
01
The entrance is judged
The only unadapted nose in the building
Six seconds is the whole of the accurate assessment the store will ever get. So it needs accuracy rather than strength - clean and cool, identical morning and evening, no stronger than the floor.
Tip: It is also where a pantry or a washroom announces itself.
02
The floor is background
Success is that nobody at a counter is thinking about it
A moving customer, ten or fifteen minutes, spoken to at close range. Middle setting - and usually over-specified, because the unit ends up on the counter where the socket is.
03
The cabin is endured
An hour, seated, behind a door, least air movement
So it takes the lowest level in the store. The most important room gets the least fragrance, and this will be argued with in almost every store.
Tip: One register throughout. Only the level changes.
The SOSA principle
Six seconds at the door is the only accurate assessment the store will ever get.
Everyone else in the building has already adapted.

Judged at the door, ignored on the floor, endured in the cabin

The useful way to plan distribution is to notice that the same fragrance does three entirely different jobs, and only one involves being perceived. The entrance is where the register is judged, and the only place that judgement is accurate: everybody who has been inside an hour has adapted, so the only unadapted nose belongs to somebody who has just come in from the street, and their first six seconds is the whole of the accurate assessment the store will ever receive. So the entrance does not need to be stronger, which is the usual instinct and the usual mistake - it needs to be right. Clean and cool, identical at ten in the morning and seven in the evening since the store cannot choose which six seconds a client gets, and free of anything arriving from elsewhere, because an entrance is where a pantry or a washroom most often announces itself, the client's nose working properly there and nowhere else. Warm Welcome suits a door, Quiet Luxury is safest throughout, Tea Garden does the same softly. The display floor is background, and its success condition is that nobody standing at a counter is thinking about it: a moving customer, ten or fifteen minutes, spoken to at close range while looking at something expensive. Middle setting - and the one most often over-specified, because the unit ends up on the counter where the socket is, putting the strongest air in the building exactly where staff stand all day and every customer leans in. Find where the air moves with the cooling running and place it there, away from anybody stationed. The private cabin is endured: an hour or more, seated, behind a closed door, smallest volume, least air movement, sometimes several people, and a salesperson there all day. Everything argues downwards, so the cabin takes the lowest level in the store - the most important room gets the least fragrance, which will be argued with everywhere. It should run continuously rather than being switched on, since a prepared room smells prepared, and it is its own zone by definition because no machine crosses a closed door - reeds from Rs 749 suit it well. One register throughout, varying only the level, because clients cross those thresholds repeatedly and a change of register reads as a discontinuity while a change of level reads as a room getting quieter. Two registers also means two consumables and a rota that must remember which is which. Circulation needs nothing; staff and utility areas get nothing. SOSA Megh Rs 3,499 or SOSA Vaayu Rs 11,999 with coverage to 1,000 m² on the floor, SOSA Sukoon Rs 1,799 or SOSA Boond Rs 799 in cabins. From Rs 299 for 15ml. Everything is alcohol-free and made to IFRA-compliant standards. Volume pricing is quoted on WhatsApp.

The SOSA business gifting edit

Whatever your business gifts, the logic is the same: gift the milestone moment, set the per-unit band by customer value, keep the register gentle and crowd-safe, and brand the gesture with your card rather than your logo on the product. Every SOSA fragrance is alcohol-free and made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali - so every customer gift quietly gives twice. Honest notes for business gifters: customer taste varies, so volume programmes should run gentle, crowd-tested registers - fresh, clean and lightly floral scents are received well across every profile, and space formats (diffusers, reeds, car fragrance) avoid the personal-taste risk of skin perfume entirely. Listed prices are per-unit store prices; volume pricing, pilot batches, branded cards and custom hamper builds are quoted on WhatsApp - and signature-scent development for your brand is a consultation with our perfumer, not an off-the-shelf item, so timelines are discussed case by case. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own interpretations inspired by the world's finest hotels; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house, not affiliated with any hotel brand. Ultrasonic diffusers use the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance; reed diffusers use their own alcohol-free reed oil - the two are not interchangeable. All personal fragrances are alcohol-free and IFRA-compliant. WhatsApp bulk desk: +91 96192 18531. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Versailles
A note from Sonal

Most customer gifts are bought to be handed over, not to be kept: the sweet box is finished by the family that evening, the keychain joins a drawer, the branded pen was never really a gift at all. Then the moment that cost your business lakhs to create - the new car, the new home, the big purchase - is remembered with nothing. A fragrance gift keeps that moment alive, because scent is the sense wired closest to memory: months later, your customer is still in the middle of the experience you gave them.

I trained at ISIPCA in Versailles and everything we make is built for Indian lives - car diffusers that survive a Mumbai summer, reed diffusers that hold through the monsoon, alcohol-free formulas safe to gift across every customer profile. If you run a dealership, a project, a hotel, a showroom or a team, message the bulk desk on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 - tell me the customer moment and the volumes, and I will help you design the programme myself. The business conversations are my favourite kind: one good gifting programme teaches me more about a category than a year of retail orders.

And a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali - so your customer gift quietly gives twice. That equation has always felt right to me.

Frequently asked questions

How should fragrance be distributed across a jewellery store?
One register throughout at three descending levels - the entrance where it is judged, the display floor as background, and the private cabins lowest of all.
Should the entrance be the strongest point?
No. It should be no stronger than the floor. It is where the only unadapted nose in the building is, so it needs to be accurate rather than strong.
Why does the private cabin get the least?
Because it holds people for an hour or more behind a closed door with the least air movement in the building, and intensity is set inversely to exposure time.
Can the cabin have its own scent?
No. Clients cross that threshold repeatedly, and a change of register at a doorway reads as something being slightly wrong. Change the level, not the subject.
What about corridors and staff areas?
Corridors need nothing of their own - they are conduits. Staff quarters, store rooms and utility areas get nothing at all. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.

Facts verified August 2026: Olfactory memory research shows scent-linked memories are unusually durable and emotionally vivid, which is why a used-daily fragrance gift sustains brand association in a way consumable or novelty gifts do not; customer-experience research consistently finds that peak moments (delivery, possession, checkout) disproportionately shape how the whole purchase is remembered. Fragrance preference is personal: volume gifting programmes should default to gentle fresh, green and lightly floral registers, and to space formats (diffusers, reeds, car fragrance) rather than skin perfume.
