Most bathrooms need a 50ml reed diffuser, and larger or airier ones suit a 130ml. But the amount of oil matters less than how you use it - reed count controls the throw far more than bottle size does. Let me explain how to size the oil to your bathroom without overbuying or underscenting.
Quick answers — read this first
50ml for most. A standard small or attached bathroom is well served by a 50ml diffuser. It scents the room without overwhelming it.
130ml for larger. A big master bathroom or an airy, high-ceilinged space suits a 130ml, which holds more oil for sustained coverage.
Reeds tune the throw. Within either size, reed count is your dial - fewer reeds for a subtle, longer-lasting scent, more for a stronger one.
The short answer
Standard bathroom: a 50ml diffuser is enough for most Indian bathrooms.
Larger bathroom: step up to 130ml for more oil and sustained coverage.
Throw control: reed count matters more than volume - add or remove reeds to tune strength.
Honest note: more oil does not mean stronger. A 130ml with few reeds is subtle; a 50ml with many is strong.
Illustrative only. Value is weeks of pleasant scent per rupee, not the sticker price. A real-material diffuser used with fewer reeds in a shaded, still spot stretches furthest.
Most bathrooms need a 50ml reed diffuser, which is enough to scent a standard small or attached bathroom well. A larger master bathroom or an airy, high-ceilinged space suits a 130ml, which holds more oil for sustained coverage. But the volume is only half the answer - reed count controls the strength of the throw far more than bottle size does. A 50ml with a full set of reeds can scent more strongly than a 130ml with only two or three. Size the bottle to the room, then tune the strength with reeds.
Bottle size sets the coverage; reed count sets the strength.

The right amount of oil is a function of your room, not a fixed number. Here is how I think about matching a bottle size to a bathroom.
Standard bathroom - 50ml. Most small and attached Indian bathrooms are well served by a 50ml diffuser. It carries enough oil to scent the room steadily without feeling heavy in an enclosed space. This is the default I would suggest for a first purchase.
Larger or airier bathroom - 130ml. A big master bathroom, a room with high ceilings, or a space that ventilates a lot suits a 130ml. The larger reservoir holds more oil for sustained coverage where a 50ml would be pulled thin.
Two bathrooms - two diffusers. Do not try to stretch one bottle across two rooms. One diffuser is composed for one room; use one in each bathroom rather than under-serving both.
If you are trying a scent for the first time, I always suggest starting with a 50ml and a few reeds. It is the low-risk way to see how a fragrance sits in your specific bathroom before committing to the larger bottle.
Why reeds matter more than the volume of oil
This is the part people miss. The amount of oil in the bottle sets how long it lasts and how much coverage it can sustain - but the strength you actually smell is governed by the reeds, because the reeds are what carry the oil into the air.
Myth: more oil means a stronger scent. Not directly. A 130ml with only two reeds is subtle. A 50ml with a full set of reeds is strong. The reeds are the throttle; the oil is the fuel tank.
So the practical approach is two decisions, not one. First, size the bottle to the room - 50ml for standard, 130ml for large. Second, tune the strength with reeds - start low and add more if the bathroom feels faint, or use fewer for a subtle, longer-lasting scent.
And an honest reminder: no amount of oil makes a reed diffuser a cleaner. It freshens and layers a pleasant scent over a clean, aired room; it does not remove an odour at its source. Size the oil for pleasant scenting, not for masking a problem - clean and ventilate the bathroom itself first.

The SOSA reed diffuser range
Every diffuser below comes in 50ml and 130ml. All are phthalate-free, IFRA-aligned, built on a CCT coconut-derived carrier base, and are flame-free, heatless and electricity-free. Start with a 50ml and two or three reeds if you are trying a scent for the first time.
SOSA reed diffuser range
All phthalate-free · IFRA-aligned · CCT carrier · Flame-free
I trained as a perfumer at ISIPCA in Versailles, and when I came home to India I kept noticing the same thing on the shelves: lovely bottles, vague labels. Nobody would tell you what the carrier was, or name the notes.
So SOSA reed diffusers use a disclosed CCT coconut-derived carrier, are phthalate-free and IFRA-aligned, name their top, heart and base notes, and are tested in real Indian heat and humidity - not a mild lab climate. Flame-free, heatless, electricity-free, built from real materials.
I would rather you used this guide to buy well than to buy ours by reflex. If another brand discloses its carrier and names its materials, buy it happily. I just think you deserve to know what is scenting your home.
Frequently asked questions
How much diffuser oil does a bathroom need?
A 50ml reed diffuser suits most standard bathrooms. A larger master or airy bathroom suits a 130ml. Reed count matters more than volume for the strength you actually smell.
Does more oil mean a stronger scent?
No. The reeds control the throw, not the volume. A 130ml with two reeds is subtle, while a 50ml with a full set is strong. Size the bottle to the room, then tune strength with reeds.
Should I buy 50ml or 130ml for my bathroom?
Choose 50ml for a standard small or attached bathroom, and 130ml for a large master bathroom or an airy, high-ceilinged space. If you are trying a scent for the first time, start with 50ml.
Can one diffuser scent two bathrooms?
No. One diffuser is sized for one room. Use one in each bathroom rather than stretching a single bottle across two, which under-serves both.
Which SOSA scent should I choose for a bathroom?
Morning Freshness, at ₹749, available in 50ml and 130ml. Its Malabar lemon, peppermint and eucalyptus notes read clean and bright in a bathroom.
