Almost every scenting rule of thumb is quoted in square feet, and almost every car showroom breaks it, because showrooms are built tall on purpose. Here is the arithmetic that height changes, and the placement rule that follows from it.
Quick answers — read this first
How does ceiling height affect scent machine placement in a car showroom? It changes both the volume and the mounting position. A 60 x 40 ft showroom is 223m² of floor, which holds about 680m³ at a 10 ft ceiling and about 1,360m³ under a 20 ft glass frontage - double the air from the same plan. One SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) covers 1000m³, so the tall version needs a second unit or a SOSA Angaan (₹25,999). Mount at two to two and a half metres on the return-air path, not high in the volume.

Where should a diffuser be mounted in a double-height showroom? Low, on the air path, in the layer people actually breathe. Warm air rises and collects under a tall glass frontage, so a machine mounted high spends its output in a layer nobody stands in. Two to two and a half metres beside the return-air grille works. In a genuinely tall volume the cleaner answer is a SOSA Angaan (₹25,999) on the HVAC, so the ducting distributes it rather than the room's own convection.

Does a taller showroom need a stronger scent setting? It needs more capacity, not a harder setting. Doubling the ceiling height doubles the air, so the honest fix is a second SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999, 1000m³ each) or one SOSA Angaan (₹25,999, 3,000m³). Turning a single machine up to compensate burns fragrance faster and produces a strong zone near the unit rather than an evenly scented room.
The short answer
Short answer: height decides the volume and the mounting. A 60 x 40 ft floor holds about 680m³ at a 10 ft ceiling and about 1,360m³ under a 20 ft frontage, so the same plan can need one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999, 1000m³) or two. Mount at two to two and a half metres on the return-air path, never high in a tall volume.
The pick: the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) mounted low on the air path for a normal-height floor, and the SOSA Angaan (₹25,999) on the HVAC once a single volume goes genuinely double height.
Next step: send the floor dimensions and the height at the frontage and we will calculate the volume - book a free coverage plan.
Ceiling height in a car showroom - the same floor plan, twice the air60 ft x 40 ft = 2,400 sq ft = 223m² of floor, fixedAt a 10 ft ceiling: 223 x 3.05 = about 680m³ of airUnder a 20 ft glass frontage: 223 x 6.1 = about 1,360m³Mount at 2 to 2.5m on the return-air path, not at the apexAbove 1,000m³ in one volume - second Vaayu or one Angaan
Floor area is only half the calculation. Two showrooms with identical plans can hold 680 or 1,360 cubic metres depending on the frontage, and the taller one also needs the machine mounted differently.

Straight answer
How does ceiling height change scent machine placement in a car showroom?
In two ways, and the first one is arithmetic. Take a real showroom: 60 ft by 40 ft is 2,400 sq ft, or about 223m² of floor. At a standard 10 ft ceiling (3.05m) that is 223 x 3.05 = about 680m³ of air, comfortably one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999, rated 1000m³). Give the same floor plan a 20 ft glass frontage (6.1m) and it becomes 223 x 6.1 = about 1,360m³ - exactly double, from a drawing that looks identical from above. That is why any rule quoted in square feet alone is quietly assuming a ceiling height it has not told you about. Always do length x width x height, in metres, and if the showroom steps up under a frontage, measure the tall part and the normal part separately and add them. The second effect is placement. Warm air rises, and under a large glass frontage it rises hard, so a tall showroom stratifies: a warm scented layer collects at the top of the volume where nobody stands, while the layer people actually breathe stays thin. Mounting a machine high, near the apex or on a mezzanine rail, feeds that top layer and wastes most of the output. Mount instead at two to two and a half metres, beside the return-air grille or in the entrance airflow, so the fragrance enters the air that is moving through the occupied part of the room. Never place it at floor level behind a display vehicle, where a car body blocks the airflow entirely. And do not compensate for height by turning the intensity up - that produces a strong pocket near the machine, not an even room. If one volume passes 1,000m³, add a second Vaayu, and if it is genuinely double height on central air, put one SOSA Angaan (₹25,999, 3,000m³) on the HVAC so the ducting beats the convection. A free coverage plan will do the volume maths from your drawings.
Length x width x height, in metres. A 20 ft frontage doubles the air of a 10 ft ceiling. Mount at 2 to 2.5m on the return-air path, never at the apex.
For a normal-height showroom the machine is the SOSA Vaayu - 1000m³ rated, wall mountable at the two to two and a half metre band where it belongs, waterless, under 38dB, 400ml tank lasting up to 75 days, with app timers and a key-lock. It also mounts to HVAC if your tall volume is ducted.

Height changes the volume, the placement and the intensity

Height does three things to a scenting plan: it multiplies the volume, it stratifies the air, and it moves the correct mounting point downwards rather than upwards.

1
The arithmetic
Length x width x height, in metres, every time
Convert first: square feet to square metres is x 0.0929, feet to metres is divided by 3.28. A 60 x 40 ft showroom is 223m². Multiply by 3.05m for a 10 ft ceiling and you get about 680m³. Multiply by 4.27m for 14 ft and you get about 952m³. Multiply by 6.1m for a 20 ft frontage and you get about 1,360m³. One machine, one machine at the limit, and two machines - all from the same floor plan. If your showroom has a tall frontage bay and a lower rear section, measure them separately and add the two results rather than averaging the height.
Tip: measure the height at the frontage and at the back. Averaging them hides the problem.
SOSA Vaayu
One Vaayu covers 1000m³, so the arithmetic tells you directly whether one is enough.

2
Stratification under glass
The warm scented layer collects where nobody stands
A large glass frontage heats the air behind it, that air rises, and in a double-height volume it takes fragrance with it. The result is a showroom where the top four metres smell excellent and the standing zone smells faint, which people then try to fix by increasing the intensity, which mostly just enriches the top layer further. The fix is not power. It is putting the fragrance into moving air in the occupied zone, and letting the air-conditioning circulate rather than relying on the room's own convection to bring it back down.
SOSA Angaan
In a tall ducted volume the Angaan avoids the problem entirely by releasing through supply outlets across the whole space.
See SOSA Angaan →
3
Mounting height and direction
Two to two and a half metres, on the return-air path
Mount in the band between two and two and a half metres: high enough to be out of customer and child reach and to keep the key-lock relevant, low enough to be in the layer people breathe. Put it beside the return-air grille or in the entrance airflow so the machine is feeding air that is on its way somewhere. Avoid three positions specifically - the apex of a tall volume, a mezzanine rail overlooking the floor, and floor level behind a display vehicle, where the car body blocks the airflow. Direction matters less than airflow: a well-placed machine pointing anywhere beats a badly placed one aimed carefully.
Tip: the right height matters more than the right direction. Air does the aiming.
SOSA Vaayu
The Vaayu is 165 x 80.5 x 215mm and 0.9kg, so it wall mounts discreetly at exactly that height.

The SOSA principle
A showroom with a 20 ft glass frontage holds twice the air its floor plan suggests, and hides most of it above the heads of everyone in the room.
Height is the number that turns a correct rule of thumb into a wrong specification.
SOSA Angaan
For a genuinely double-height volume: SOSA Angaan connects to the HVAC and scents up to 3,000m³ through the building's own supply outlets, which beats convection in a tall glass-fronted room. ₹25,999.

One more thing height changes: perception. Tall rooms feel cooler and read fragrance as thinner, so a profile that seems balanced in a low-ceilinged office can disappear in a double-height showroom, and the instinct is to pick something heavier. Resist it - heavier profiles turn cloying in the warm upper layer and then drift down in the evening. Keep the profile restrained and add capacity instead. For the count that follows from your volume, see how many scent machines a 5,000 sq ft showroom needs, and for the smallest case worked end to end, how to scent a 2,000 sq ft car showroom. A quick word on measuring: use the height to the underside of the ceiling or soffit, not to the roof structure, and treat a stepped frontage as two volumes rather than one averaged one. One honest note - none of this makes fragrance a substitute for ventilation. It works alongside your air handling and cleaning and cannot cover paint, adhesive or workshop fumes, and a tall room with a ventilation problem will smell of both. Send the section drawing with the plan and we will size it on a free coverage plan.

A note from Sonal

A car showroom is a room built entirely out of hard surfaces - glass, tile, powder-coated steel and the inside of forty new cars. Sound bounces, light bounces, and smell does something stranger: it collects in the cool layer near the floor and thins out completely under a tall glass frontage. That is why two showrooms with identical floor plans can need different machines.

So I size by air, never by floor. Measure length, width and height, work in cubic metres, and divide by 1000 - that is the rating of one SOSA Vaayu, described on the product page as about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft. Most compact showrooms come out at one machine. If the number lands at three or more inside a single connected volume, stop buying small machines and put one Angaan on the air handling instead.

The honest part: fragrance works alongside ventilation and cleaning, never instead of either. It cannot cover fresh paint, adhesive, damp or workshop fumes, and layering scent over those gives you both smells at once. And I make no claim that scent influences a purchase decision - it makes a space feel finished, which is a different and more defensible thing. SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel. Everything is made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

How does ceiling height affect scent machine placement in a car showroom?
It changes the volume and the mounting position together. A 60 by 40 ft floor is about 223 square metres, which holds roughly 680 cubic metres at a 10 ft ceiling and about 1,360 cubic metres under a 20 ft glass frontage - double the air from the same plan. Mount at two to two and a half metres on the return-air path, because in a tall volume the warm scented layer collects near the roof where nobody stands.
How do I calculate the air volume of a showroom?
Length times width times height, in metres. Convert square feet by multiplying by 0.0929 and feet by dividing by 3.28. Then divide the result by 1000, which is the coverage of one SOSA Vaayu (Rs 11,999), and round up. If the showroom steps up under a frontage, measure the tall section and the lower section separately and add them rather than averaging the height.
Should the diffuser be mounted high in a double-height showroom?
No. Mounting high feeds the warm layer that collects under the roof, which is the part of the room nobody occupies. Mount at two to two and a half metres, beside the return-air grille or in the entrance airflow. In a genuinely tall volume on central air handling, a SOSA Angaan (Rs 25,999) on the duct is cleaner because supply outlets distribute across the whole space.
Can I just turn the intensity up in a tall showroom instead of adding a machine?
It does not work well. Height adds air, and air needs capacity rather than pressure. Turning one machine up produces a strong pocket near the unit, uses fragrance faster and still leaves the far side faint. Add a second SOSA Vaayu, or move to a machine rated for the larger volume.
Does a tall showroom need more ventilation as well as more capacity?
Ventilation is a separate requirement and fragrance never replaces it. Scent works alongside air handling and cleaning, and cannot cover paint, adhesive, damp or workshop fumes; in a tall glass-fronted room those smells stratify too. SOSA also makes no claim that fragrance influences a purchase decision.
