Carrier three - the supply throw
A source in the stream is carried the length of it before it mixes
A supply grille does not gently add air to a room; it throws a stream, and anything released into that stream travels with it until it slows and mixes. A machine on a console under a supply grille, or a reed on a desk in its path, has its output carried in one direction - and if that direction is the corridor mouth, the corridor receives fragrance that has not yet been diluted by the room. Recognise it by unevenness: strong along one line, faint elsewhere. The fix is again a wall: the source high, out of the stream, on a wall the supply does not sweep, so the output mixes into the room before the room's own circulation carries it anywhere. Scenting a large waiting area evenly is the same fix seen from the waiting room's side.
Test: stand under each supply grille and feel which way it blows. The source goes on a wall the stream does not reach.

Carrier four - corridor pull
A passage draws from the room at its mouth; distance is the fix, and nothing is placed in the passage
A corridor is narrow, its air moves, and it draws from the room at its mouth. A source near that mouth feeds the corridor directly; a source in the corridor is a source at the procedure door. Recognise it by geography: the corridor smells of reception at its mouth and the smell fades toward the door, but does not fade to nothing. The fix is distance. The source goes high on the reception wall furthest from the corridor, so that the seating meets it first and the corridor last, and every step toward the door is fainter than the one before. The gradient owners want between entrance and clinical door is made exactly this way, by one source far from the corridor - never by a second, weaker source nearer it. The phrase I hear most from pain clinics is 'the fragrance is getting into the procedure room', said as though the oil had ambitions. It does not. It sits in whatever air it was released into and goes where that air goes, and in a clinic the air is moved by four things I can name from a floor plan: the door, the return, the supply and the corridor. Once an owner accepts that, the conversation changes from 'which setting' to 'which wall', and the second conversation is the one that solves it.

The order matters because of cost. The door is free and is the culprit more often than the other three together. The return and the supply cost a question to whoever maintains the plant and a wall bracket. The corridor costs distance, which is the one thing a floor plan either has or does not. I have never had a clinic where the answer was on the dial, and I have had several where the dial was turned down so far to 'protect' the procedure room that reception smelt of nothing and the corridor still smelt of reception, because the machine was on the console under the return.
