Why not several reed diffusers? Because each one scents the area around itself, so a large house ends up with gradients - strong near a bottle, nothing between them.
Is evenness really the point? Yes. A hotel reads as expensive because it smells the same everywhere, not because the scent is strong.
The problem in a large house is not strength. It is evenness
Walk through a large house that somebody has tried to scent with bottles and pay attention to what actually happens. There is a reed diffuser on the console in the entrance, so the first four seconds are pleasant. Then a corridor with nothing in it, and the scent drops away completely. Then the living room, where a candle was lit an hour ago, so there is a different smell at a different strength. Then the dining, which has nothing. Then the stairs, which have nothing. Then the landing, then a bedroom with a diffuser in it, which is a third register. The experience of moving through that house is a series of unrelated moments, and the impression it leaves is not of a badly scented house but of an inconsistent one. Now compare the thing everybody is implicitly trying to reproduce. A good hotel does not smell strong. Most people would struggle to describe its scent at all, and if you ask them why it feels the way it does they will reach for words like clean or expensive. What is actually happening is that the lobby, the corridor, the lift lobby and the landing all smell of the same thing at the same strength, so there is no moment of transition anywhere and the smell stops registering as a product and starts registering as a property of the building. That is the entire effect, and it is produced by uniformity rather than by intensity. Uniformity is a distribution problem, and distribution is where the two product types genuinely differ. A reed diffuser works by evaporation: oil climbs porous reeds and leaves their surface into the still air around the bottle. The output is small and fixed by physics, so concentration is highest at the bottle and falls away with distance - which is exactly right in a bedroom and exactly what produces gradients in a house of two thousand five hundred square feet. Nothing about buying more bottles fixes this, because more bottles means more pockets rather than a smoother field; you can feel the individual sources. A waterless cold-air nebuliser does something different in kind. Pressurised air shatters undiluted oil into microscopic dry droplets light enough to be carried by the air that is already moving through the house - from the air conditioning, from a stairwell, from an open-plan layout. Because the mist travels with the building's own airflow rather than waiting to evaporate, the result is a field rather than a set of points. The SOSA Vaayu at eleven thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine rupees covers up to a thousand cubic metres, which the product states as roughly two thousand to three thousand square feet, and in a villa that is usually the whole house. There is a counter-intuitive point about strength that matters here, and it is the mistake most first-time machine owners make. Because the machine is powerful, people leave it at maximum, and a large house at maximum output is not uniform luxury, it is too much scent everywhere. The adjustable intensity on the Bluetooth app exists precisely to solve this: the correct setting is the lowest one at which the far end of the house still registers something, and finding it takes a few evenings. When it is right, nobody in the house can point at where the scent is coming from, which is the sign that it is working. The timers - one, four, eight and twenty-four hour windows with day selection - are the other half of the same idea: a villa does not need scenting at four in the morning, and a house scented only in the hours it is occupied smells fresher than one scented continuously. Villas in particular have two features that make the evenness problem worse and the machine's answer stronger. The first is vertical volume: a double-height living room or a tall entrance holds far more air than its floor area suggests, and a diffuser at table height is working on the bottom quarter of it. The second is the stairwell, which behaves as a chimney and moves air between floors all day - which is why a villa scented per-room always has a moment on the stairs where everything drops away, and why a machine placed with that airflow in mind covers two floors from one point. Both are physical facts about the house rather than claims about the product. Below roughly two thousand square feet the calculation reverses and the honest answer is reed diffusers, with no apology: Morning Freshness at seven hundred and forty-nine rupees for fifty millilitres and one thousand two hundred and forty-nine for one hundred and thirty, Garden Bloom and Evening Calm at seven hundred and ninety-nine and one thousand two hundred and ninety-nine, Mountain Breeze and Fresh Brew at eight hundred and forty-nine and one thousand three hundred and forty-nine. And in a smaller house, gradients are not a problem - a bedroom that smells slightly different from a hallway is pleasant rather than inconsistent. Two closing facts. The machine ships with four one hundred millilitre hotel-inspired oils included, so it works the evening it is opened, and its refills are the waterless nebuliser oils at one thousand and forty-nine rupees for a hundred grams or one thousand eight hundred and forty-nine for three hundred - never the water-based Hotel Collection, which is a separate system for ultrasonic machines. And in a brand-new villa, leave it off for the first few weeks: paint, varnish, polish and new wood need open windows, and uniform fragrance over a construction smell just makes the construction smell uniform too. Fragrance is a finishing touch, never a fix.
Strong, faint, nothing, strong - and that is what reads as amateur
Uniformity, at the lowest setting that achieves it.

Versailles
The Vaayu is the most expensive thing we make and we turn down more orders for it than for anything else in the range. Not because we do not want to sell it - because most homes do not need it. It covers up to a thousand cubic metres, roughly two to three thousand square feet, and that is a villa, a penthouse, a large open-plan flat or a house with a double-height room. An ordinary 2BHK is not that, and in an ordinary 2BHK a reed diffuser at seven hundred and forty-nine rupees does the job better than eleven thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine rupees of machine would. So the question we ask is never what somebody spent on their house. It is how many cubic metres of air are in it.
The second thing we say, and almost nobody expects it, is wait a few weeks. A brand-new home smells of paint, varnish, polish, cement and new wood, and those are not smells to cover - they need open windows and time, and they go on their own. Give the machine at the housewarming by all means, but tell them the scenting starts once the building has finished smelling of being built. It is the same rule we apply to a new car, for the same reason: adding fragrance to a smell that is fading anyway is how a good product gets blamed for a bad result.
Two honest limits. Reed diffusers do not fail in large homes, they simply do not reach - a diffuser on a console table scents the area around that console table, which is not a fault, it is physics, and several of them is a real alternative to one machine. And there are two machines above the Vaayu, the Angaan and the Meenar, which are HVAC units for showrooms and hotel floors rather than houses - so if a home is genuinely far beyond three thousand square feet, message us rather than assuming more money solves it.
