Founder Diaries · Home Fragrance · Fresh & Aquatic Perfume Lovers
By Sonal Sahani · ISIPCA Versailles 12 min read Updated August 2026
This is the page that holds the other nine, and it opens with both halves of the honest answer. Fresh is the taste this range covers best — three genuinely different kinds of it across seven scents. There is no aquatic, marine or ozonic note in the SOSA Hotel Collection or anywhere else in the SOSA range. Everything else is below: why almost nobody makes a lasting aquatic room fragrance, why inexpensive fresh scents smell of cleaning product, which bottle to buy, in which room, at how many drops, in which size, and where to stop spending.
Quick answers — read this first
Fresh: covered three ways — clean tea, bergamot citrus, green tea and leaves.

Aquatic: not in the range at all, and rare everywhere — marine materials are built to sparkle for about twenty minutes, and a room needs hours.

The house: Westin-inspired where you sleep, Ritz-Carlton-inspired where people arrive, Shangri-La-inspired or 1 Hotels-inspired where you want green. Three bottles, ₹897.
The short answer
Short answer: the Westin-inspired White Tea Serenity from the Hotel Collection — white tea, cooling aloe and soft cedar, ₹299 for 15ml — is the default for somebody who wears fresh perfumes, and also the right answer for somebody who wears aquatics. There is no aquatic, marine or ozonic note anywhere in the SOSA range, and this guide will not describe a white tea as sea air.
The pick: room by room — Westin-inspired (₹299) in bedrooms and bathrooms at three drops; Ritz-Carlton-inspired Quiet Luxury (₹299) in halls and living rooms at four or five; Shangri-La-inspired Tea Garden (₹299) for a green daytime room; 1 Hotels-inspired Forest Suite (₹299) in a study. Nothing at all in the kitchen.
Shop: the Hotel Collection at 15ml ₹299, 100ml ₹999 and 300ml ₹1,799 — roughly ₹20, ₹10 and ₹6 per millilitre. The Pack of 7 at 15ml is ₹1,799 against ₹2,093 for seven singles, a saving of ₹294. The Sukoon is ₹1,899 with three 15ml scents included, the Boond ₹899 and the Megh ₹3,499. Free shipping above ₹499.
Straight answer
What should somebody who wears fresh or aquatic perfumes buy from the SOSA range, and in what order?
1. Fresh is genuinely covered, and covered three ways. Clean-fresh in the two white teas, citrus-fresh in the bergamot and the peppery W Hotels-inspired, green-fresh in the tea-and-jasmine Shangri-La-inspired and the dry 1 Hotels-inspired. That is unusual across a range of seven, and it is why this cluster can give straight answers at ₹299.

2. There is no aquatic, marine or ozonic note in the SOSA range. Not in the seven Hotel Collection scents, not in the alcohol-free reed diffusers, not anywhere. Marine materials are among the most volatile in perfumery — built to sparkle for about twenty minutes on skin — and a room scent has to hold for hours, which is why almost no brand makes a lasting aquatic room fragrance.

3. Start with the Westin-inspired White Tea Serenity, ₹299 for 15ml. White tea, cooling aloe and soft cedar — the lightest of the seven, the closest register to a modern fresh perfume, and the nearest thing in the range to that cool after-swim quality. The aloe is a cooling note rather than a marine one.

4. Split the house by room rather than buying one bottle for everywhere. Cool clean tea where you sleep at three drops, bergamot and cedar where people arrive at four or five, green where you work in daylight, nothing in the kitchen. Three bottles at ₹299 each is ₹897.

5. Get the machine right once and buy the big bottle last. A Sukoon at ₹1,899 covers 270–320 sq ft with 16–18 hours per 500ml fill on low and arrives with three 15ml scents; the 300ml 300ml refill at ₹1,799 is about ₹6 per millilitre and is for the scent that has already won.

A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
TL;DR: fresh is covered three ways and there is no aquatic, marine or ozonic note in the SOSA range at all. The Westin-inspired White Tea Serenity at ₹299 is the default for both readers; the Ritz-Carlton-inspired at ₹299 for busy rooms; the Shangri-La-inspired or 1 Hotels-inspired at ₹299 if you want green.
SOSA Hotel Collection · seven scents
The complete inventory, said plainly
SOSA Hotel Collection · seven scents from ₹299
White tea, bergamot and cedar; white tea, aloe and cedar; cedarwood, vetiver and green leaves; amber, violet and woods; jasmine, green tea and white tea; citrus, soft florals and sandalwood; citrus, pepper and amber. That is all of it, and there is no aquatic, marine or ozonic note in the list. Fresh is covered three separate ways; sea air is not covered at all. Water-based, for ultrasonic diffusers only, three to six drops per tank, IFRA-standard and phthalate-free, composed in India.

Part one — the two requests, and what the range actually contains

Nine articles precede this one and between them they answer two quite different questions that arrive wearing the same word. One is fresh, which this range covers better than any other taste. The other is aquatic, which it does not cover at all. Both readers end up in a similar place, but they should get there having been told the truth rather than having been handed the coolest available bottle with a photograph of the sea behind it. And underneath both sits the principle this whole series is built on: a home fragrance is not a second dose of the perfume you wear. It is the backdrop that decides how well your perfume reads, which is why the answer for most people here is the lightest thing on the shelf.

1
THE PLAIN FACT
The entire inventory, with nothing implied
Seven scents, and this is all of them: white tea, bergamot and cedar; white tea, aloe and cedar; cedarwood, vetiver and green leaves; amber, violet and woods; jasmine, green tea and white tea; citrus, soft florals and sandalwood; citrus, pepper and amber. There is no aquatic, marine or ozonic note in that list, and none in SOSA's separate alcohol-free reed diffuser line either. There is also no lemon and no pine anywhere in the Hotel Collection, which matters more than it sounds and is the subject of one of the nine guides below. These are SOSA's own interpretations of hotel moods, composed in India to IFRA standards and phthalate-free; SOSA is an independent Indian house and is not affiliated with or endorsed by any hotel brand.
2
THE PERFUMERY REASON
Marine materials are built to be brief
Why the aquatic gap exists everywhere rather than only here. The materials that give a composition its marine, ozonic, sea-spray quality are among the most volatile in the cabinet: they belong at the very top, they are designed to lift and flash, and on skin they do their best work in about the first twenty minutes and are largely finished long before the base has settled. That is a virtue in a perfume, which wants an opening. It is a disqualification in a room, where the entire requirement is a consistent impression across six or eight hours. The nearest thing the range has is the cooling aloe in the Westin-inspired, and it is not the same as a marine note — aloe reads as cool green sap and skin, a marine accord reads as air over water.
Which is why: almost no home fragrance from any brand is genuinely aquatic. What is usually sold under the word is a citrus-and-white-musk approximation — pleasant, and not the thing.
3
THE OTHER TRAP
Why inexpensive fresh smells of cleaning product
The second recurring complaint in this cluster, and it has a straightforward explanation. Lemon and pine are the two notes household cleaners have leaned on hardest for decades — floor cleaner, dish soap, bathroom spray, every office corridor any of us has walked down. The association is learned rather than olfactory: your nose has been trained by twenty years of floor cleaner to read those materials as work has just happened here. The fix is not a better lemon; it is choosing fresh built on tea instead. And bergamot is not lemon — it is bitter, faintly floral and tea-like, the citrus in Earl Grey, while lemon is sharp and sweet and lemon is the one cleaners use. That single distinction is why the Ritz-Carlton-inspired reads as a lobby rather than a stairwell.

Part two — all seven scents, with their real note profiles

Every scent in the Hotel Collection, with what is actually in it, how it behaves in a room, where it belongs and what it does for somebody who wears fresh or aquatic perfumes. All seven are ₹299 for 15ml, ₹999 for 100ml and ₹1,799 for 300ml. None of them is aquatic, because the range contains no marine note; the ranking below is by coolness and cleanness, which is the axis both readers are actually buying on. The last rows are the ones I would not choose for you, included because an honest table has to contain the answers you are not looking for.

Westin-inspired · White Tea Serenity ★ White tea · aloe · cedar The lightest of the seven — cool, weightless, close to nothing Bedroom, bathroom, small flats Best of the seven. The cool, just-showered register, and the nearest thing to aquatic without being it ₹299
The Ritz-Carlton-inspired · Quiet Luxury White tea · bergamot · cedar Polished and hushed — bright on arrival, structured underneath Halls, living rooms, daytime everywhere The most useful all-rounder. Bergamot rather than lemon, so it never reads as cleaning ₹299
Shangri-La-inspired · Tea Garden Jasmine · green tea · white tea Serene and green, warming as jasmine builds through an evening Bathrooms, guest rooms, daytime corners Green-fresh rather than clean-fresh. For anyone who finds laundered freshness bare ₹299
1 Hotels-inspired · Forest Suite Cedarwood · vetiver · green leaves Dry, low and structural — timber rather than fragrance Study, bedroom, anywhere bare and hard-floored Fresh in the outdoor sense, and the range's nearest thing to wet stone. No citrus in it ₹299

The three things this guide comes down to
The SOSA principle
A home fragrance is not a second dose of your perfume. It is the air your perfume is heard in.
Ten guides and one rule — and for a fresh or aquatic wearer it points at the lightest bottle on the shelf rather than the most impressive one.

Part three — rooms, drops, machines and sizes

Rooms first, because the same bottle is right in one and wrong in another. The bedroom is the room to under-scent deliberately: you are downwind of it for eight hours and then you dress in it, so three drops of the Westin-inspired on low with the 2H timer, machine across the room from the bed and away from the wardrobe. A closed bedroom holds fragrance for hours after the mist stops, which is why two hours before you go up scents the whole night while running until dawn mostly scents your bedding. The living room is the opposite problem — largest volume, doors opening all evening, air shared with a kitchen — and it wants structure rather than strength: four or five drops of the Ritz-Carlton-inspired, whose cedar is still holding the room after the bergamot has gone. The bathroom is the one place the spa register belongs, and it is the cheapest win in the house because tiles, humidity and hard surfaces do most of the work for you. The study takes the dry 1 Hotels-inspired at three drops. The kitchen takes nothing at all: it is a room that should smell of ventilation, and diffusing over a live cooking smell produces a third smell nobody designed, which is the commonest reason people conclude home fragrance does not work in Indian homes.

Drops next, and this is where most complaints are actually resolved. The Hotel Collection is dosed at three to six drops per tank, and the dose is per tank rather than per litre — you are scenting the mist, not the water — so a 300ml Boond takes the same three to six drops as a 500ml Sukoon. Three is a bedroom or a study. Four is a normal sitting room. Five or six is a large hall an hour before guests arrive. Fresh compositions belong at the bottom of that range, because their lightest materials leave first and the instinct is to compensate by adding, which produces a louder first hour rather than a longer fourth one. Run long and low rather than briefly and hard: the Sukoon gives 16–18 hours per 500ml fill on low at 30–50 ml/h against 9–12 on high, and low-and-long keeps the top of a light composition being replenished instead of burning off in the first hour. Ventilate before you diffuse rather than after. Rinse the tank when you change scent, so a white tea is not running over yesterday's amber. Keep the machine at waist height or above, because cool mist falls and settles on fabric — which matters more to a fresh-perfume wearer than to anybody else, since your own perfume is light enough to be overwritten by whatever is on a shirt. Never substitute raw essential or carrier oils, which clog the 2.4MHz misting plate.

Machines and sizes last, because both depend on how certain you are. The Sukoon at ₹1,899 is the default: a 500ml BPA-free tank, 270–320 sq ft, 16–18 hours per fill on low and 9–12 on high, a 2.4MHz cool-mist plate, a remote, steady, 2H and 4H timers, auto shut-off, and three 15ml scents of your choice included — which for this reader means both white teas and the green tea arrive with the hardware. A Boond at ₹899 handles a small bedroom or a second room on the same bottles; a Megh at ₹3,499 with a six-litre tank is the honest step for a genuinely large or double-height hall; a Vaayu at ₹11,999 covers up to 1000m³ but is waterless and takes its own undiluted oil, so it does not run the water-based Hotel Collection at all — as is true of the Aangan at ₹25,999 and the Meenar at ₹38,500 for HVAC installations, with the Safar car diffuser at ₹3,999 as its own thing again. On bottles: buy 15ml at ₹299 to test any recommendation including mine, move to 100ml at ₹999 (about ₹10 per millilitre) or 300ml at ₹1,799 (about ₹6) for the one scent that has become the smell of your house, and note that the Pack of 7 at 15ml is ₹1,799 against ₹2,093 for seven singles — a saving of ₹294, with ₹5,999 and ₹10,799 the equivalents at 100ml and 300ml. If a room has no plug point, SOSA's separate alcohol-free reed diffuser line covers it with its own fragrances, none of which is aquatic either. Free shipping starts above ₹499.

Ten guides, seven scents, no marine note, and one rule: the room should always be quieter than the person standing in it.

Part four — the complete SOSA edit, and the gap said plainly

The whole range as it applies to somebody who wears fresh or aquatic perfumes, in the order I would buy it — followed by the thing this range does not contain, because a buying guide that only lists what is in stock is an advertisement rather than a guide. There is no aquatic, marine or ozonic note anywhere in the SOSA range. The closest in feel is the cooling aloe in the Westin-inspired, and it is not being offered as a substitute for sea air.

The complete SOSA edit
The fresh house, in buying order
Buy What it is When it is the right answer Price
1. Westin-inspired 15ml White tea, cooling aloe and soft cedar — the lightest of the seven First, for both readers. ₹299 is the whole test ₹299
2. Ritz-Carlton-inspired 15ml White tea and bergamot over clean cedar — lift with a floor under it For halls and living rooms, and anywhere freshness must survive traffic ₹299
3. Shangri-La-inspired 15ml or 1 Hotels-inspired 15ml Green tea with jasmine, or cedarwood, vetiver and green leaves If your fresh runs green rather than clean, or dry and outdoor ₹299 each
4. Sukoon or Boond 500ml with timers and three scents included, or 300ml for one quiet room If you do not already own an ultrasonic diffuser ₹1,899 / ₹899
5. 300ml refill or Pack of 7 About ₹6 per ml for the winner, or all seven for ₹294 less than singles Once one bottle is clearly ahead — or before, if you would rather judge by nose ₹1,799
No aquatic anywhere: the honest gap No marine, ozonic or sea-air note in the Hotel Collection or the reed line Stated rather than covered over with the coolest bottle on the shelf
Honest notes for buyers: the Hotel Collection is a water-based fragrance for ultrasonic diffusers only — it runs in the Sukoon, Boond and Megh, and it does not go in reed diffusers or in the waterless Vaayu and HVAC machines, which take their own undiluted oil. Reed diffusers are a separate alcohol-free line with their own scents. Use 3–6 drops per tank and rinse between scents so each stays true; never substitute raw essential or carrier oils, which clog the 2.4MHz misting plate. Where the Hotel Collection does not contain a note, this guide says so rather than stretching the nearest scent to cover it. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own interpretations inspired by the world's finest hotels, composed in India by an ISIPCA Versailles-trained perfumer; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house, not affiliated with or endorsed by any hotel brand. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
SOSA Sukoon
The machine that runs them
SOSA Sukoon ₹1,899
A 500ml ultrasonic cool-mist diffuser rated for 270–320 sq ft, 16–18 hours per fill on low at 30–50 ml/h, with a 2.4MHz misting plate, a remote, steady, 2H and 4H timers, auto shut-off and a BPA-free tank. It arrives with three 15ml Hotel Collection scents of your choice — for a fresh-perfume wearer that means both white teas and the green tea land with the hardware, and the whole comparison happens at home rather than on a page.

A note from Sonal

Fresh is the family I am most attached to and the easiest one in this business to sell badly. The trick everybody uses is citrus at volume, because citrus is recognisable in half a second and nobody objects to it in a shop. Then it goes home, runs for six hours in a closed flat, and the room ends up smelling like the corridor of a building with a diligent cleaning contractor. Clean and just-cleaned are different smells, and only one of them is worth living in. So there is no lemon and no pine anywhere in what I make, and where there is citrus it is bergamot.

The other sentence I have written ten times in this series I will write once more here. There is no aquatic, marine or ozonic note anywhere in the SOSA range. Nor is there much of one anywhere else, and that is not a failure of imagination — those materials are built to be brief, they give a perfume its first twenty minutes and then they are gone, and a room fragrance is judged on hour six. What I would genuinely rather sell you is one 15ml bottle at ₹299 of white tea, cooling aloe and soft cedar, three drops rather than six, a machine running low for sixteen hours instead of hard for two, and then a year of leaving it alone until it stops being a product and becomes the smell of the place you live.

Everything is composed and made in India, and a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. You get a home that smells like somewhere you chose; a girl gets a classroom. That equation has always felt right to me.

Frequently asked questions

Does SOSA make an aquatic or marine home fragrance?
No. There is no aquatic, marine or ozonic note in any of the seven Hotel Collection scents, and none anywhere else in the SOSA range including the alcohol-free reed diffusers. The nearest is the cooling aloe in the Westin-inspired White Tea Serenity (₹299 for 15ml), which gives a cool just-showered quality rather than a marine one. Marine materials are among the most volatile in perfumery, which is why almost no brand makes a lasting aquatic room fragrance.
Which SOSA fragrance is best for a fresh perfume lover?
The Westin-inspired White Tea Serenity — white tea, cooling aloe and soft cedar, ₹299 for 15ml — as the default, with the Ritz-Carlton-inspired Quiet Luxury (white tea, bergamot, cedar, ₹299) for halls and living rooms where freshness has to survive traffic.
Why does cheap fresh home fragrance smell like cleaning product?
Because lemon and pine are the two notes household cleaners have used most heavily for decades, so the association is learned rather than olfactory. Choose fresh built on tea instead. Neither lemon nor pine appears anywhere in the Hotel Collection, and bergamot — bitter, floral and tea-like — is not the same thing as lemon.
How many drops, and in which rooms?
Three in a bedroom or study, four in a normal sitting room, five or six in a large hall before guests arrive. The Hotel Collection is dosed at three to six drops per tank regardless of tank size, because you are scenting the mist rather than the water, so a 300ml Boond takes the same drops as a 500ml Sukoon.
What is the cheapest complete setup for a fresh perfume wearer?
₹299, if you already own an ultrasonic diffuser — one 15ml bottle of the Westin-inspired. If you do not, the Sukoon at ₹1,899 includes three 15ml scents of your choice, which covers every comparison in this guide for the price of the machine. Free shipping above ₹499.
