Founder Diaries · Diwali 2026 · ₹500 to ₹1,500
By Sonal Sahani · ISIPCA Versailles 11 min read Updated August 2026
₹700 is the most awkward number in Indian gifting, and I would rather tell you that at the top of the page than at the bottom of it. The cheapest reed diffuser SOSA makes is Morning Freshness at ₹749. There is no smaller bottle, no travel size and no seasonal variant beneath it. So if you have set yourself a ceiling of ₹700 this Diwali, the diffuser is not on your list — and the whole useful content of this page is what ₹700 does buy, and what changes if you let the number move by forty-nine rupees.
Quick answers — read this first
The best gift genuinely under ₹700: a two-pack of SOSA jar candles at ₹664 — two 80g soy candles, message-free, roughly 30–36 hours of burn between them.

If the gift is for one person rather than a household: a 6ml attar roll-on at ₹669–₹699 — Adaa ₹669, Ameeri ₹679, Mastani ₹685, Nawaab ₹699.

If it is going on a table on the night: taper candles, set of four, ₹569.

The honest gap: there is no reed diffuser under ₹749 and no diffuser machine under ₹899. Nothing on this page is a reed diffuser. If a reed is what you pictured, the answer is to move to ₹749 — forty-nine rupees, and a different category of gift entirely.
The short answer
Short answer: under ₹700 the strongest SOSA gift is the jar candle two-pack at ₹664, in Bookshop, Cozy Corner, Misty Mornings or Evening Walks. Two candles reads as a considered gift where one reads as a token, and none of the four carries a printed message, so it is safe for a colleague, an in-law or a neighbour.
The arithmetic that matters: ₹664 buys a candle two-pack. ₹699 buys a 6ml attar. ₹749 buys Morning Freshness 50ml — six fibre reeds in a refillable glass bottle that scents a room continuously for six to eight weeks without being lit, watched or plugged in. The gap between the top of your budget and the bottom of the reed line is ₹49, and it is the largest step in value anywhere in this price range.
Shipping: free above ₹499, which every item named on this page clears. A single ₹379 jar candle does not; a ₹664 two-pack does, and so does a ₹749 reed. That is worth knowing before you decide the cheaper option is cheaper.
Straight answer
What is the best Diwali gift under ₹700 in India in 2026?
1. Buy the jar candle two-pack at ₹664 if the gift is going to a household. Two hand-poured 80g soy candles, roughly 30–36 hours of burn between them, in four message-free scents. Two of anything reads as considered; one of anything reads as a token, and at Diwali the recipient is receiving a great many tokens.

2. Buy a 6ml attar at ₹669–₹699 if the gift is going to a person. Adaa is bergamot, cardamom and jasmine sambac at ₹669; Ameeri is Taif rose and Indian sandalwood at ₹679; Mastani is night-blooming jasmine and Damask rose at ₹685; Nawaab is white oud and saffron at ₹699. A roll-on is worn rather than kept, which is a different kind of gift from a candle and better for someone whose home you have never seen.

3. Buy taper candles at ₹569 if the gift will be used on the night. A set of four, and the only thing on this list that participates in the evening itself rather than outlasting it.

4. Know what ₹700 cannot do. It cannot buy a reed diffuser, because the cheapest one SOSA makes is ₹749, and it cannot buy a diffuser machine, because the cheapest of those is the Boond at ₹899. There is a ₹299 Hotel Collection 15ml on the store and it is not a gift — it is a refill bottle for an ultrasonic machine and does nothing at all without hardware the recipient almost certainly does not own.

5. If you can move the number, move it to ₹749. Morning Freshness 50ml is forty-nine rupees above your ceiling and is a different class of object: it runs continuously for six to eight weeks, needs no flame, no socket and no supervision, and works while nobody is in the room.

Free shipping above ₹499. Alcohol-free, phthalate-free, made in Pune. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
TL;DR: under ₹700 buy the ₹664 candle two-pack, or a 6ml attar at ₹669–₹699, or ₹569 taper candles. There is no reed diffuser at this price — the line begins at ₹749 — and forty-nine rupees is the difference between an evening and two months.
SOSA Bookshop scented soy jar candle
The best thing actually under ₹700
Jar candle two-pack · message-free ₹664
Two 80g hand-poured soy candles, about 30–36 hours of burn between them, in Bookshop, Cozy Corner, Misty Mornings or Evening Walks. None of them carries a printed message, which is exactly why they are the right candle for a colleague, an in-law or a neighbour. A single jar at ₹379 is the same product at half the weight and does not clear free shipping; the two-pack does.

Everything SOSA sells under ₹700, without padding

A budget page is only useful if it tells you the truth about the shelf, so here is the shelf. Under ₹700 there are four formats, they do four different jobs, and the choice between them is not really a choice about fragrance at all — it is a choice about whether the gift is for a room, for a person, or for the evening. Get that decision right and the scent almost picks itself.

1
FORMAT ONE · FOR A ROOM
Jar candles — ₹379 single, ₹664 for two
SOSA Cozy Corner jar candleCozy Corner₹664The two-pack at ₹664 is the strongest thing on this page and the reason is arithmetic rather than aesthetics. A single ₹379 jar is a perfectly good candle, but it is visibly one candle, it does not clear free shipping at ₹499, and at Diwali it will sit on a table next to four other single objects. Two candles change the reading. There are also two singles worth knowing at ₹449 — the Sandalwood and the Smoked Oudh — which buy you a named material rather than a mood name, and a named material is the cheapest way to make a small gift read as a serious one.
Buy this if: you are giving to a household, a colleague or a neighbour, and you want something that will not require an explanation.
2
FORMAT TWO · FOR A PERSON
Attar roll-ons — 3ml ₹379–₹399, 6ml ₹669–₹699
SOSA scented gifting under seven hundred rupeesAttar roll-on₹669+The 6ml sizes land almost exactly on a ₹700 ceiling: Adaa ₹669, Ameeri ₹679, Mastani ₹685, Nawaab ₹699. An attar is a personal fragrance rather than a home one, so it goes to the individual rather than the household, and it is the right shape when you do not know the recipient's home but do know something about them. Nawaab is white oud and saffron, which is worth saying because people ask for oud constantly — SOSA has oud in the attar line and in a ₹449 candle, but there is no oud reed diffuser, and I would rather write that sentence than let you assume otherwise.
Buy this if: the gift is for one named person, and a home fragrance would feel like a gift to their family instead.
3
FORMAT THREE · FOR THE EVENING
Taper candles ₹569, wax melts ₹474, mugs ₹474
SOSA candles for a Diwali tableTaper candles₹569A set of four taper candles at ₹569 is the one gift here that joins in on the night rather than waiting for a quieter week. Wax melts at ₹474 and the Everyday Beautiful Mugs at ₹474 sit just below, and the unscented bubble candles at ₹474 are decorative objects first. Be honest with yourself about which of these you are giving: a taper set is a lovely thing to hand over on the evening itself and a slightly odd thing to send to someone who already owns forty diyas. The one advantage a candle has over everything else in this range is that it is an event — it gets lit, it is noticed, it ends.
Buy this if: you will be present when it is used, or the house is being decorated rather than stocked.

The forty-nine rupee argument, done properly

I want to make this case carefully, because a page that exists to push you above its own title is a page you should be suspicious of. So here is the honest version. ₹700 and ₹749 are not two points on a smooth curve; they are on either side of a category boundary. Under ₹700 you are buying an object that gets used, and every one of those objects requires the recipient to do something — strike a match, roll a wrist, set a table. At ₹749 you are buying a thing that requires nothing at all: Morning Freshness 50ml stands on a shelf, six fibre reeds in a refillable glass bottle, and changes the air of a room continuously for six to eight weeks whether anyone remembers it is there or not.

Then there is shipping, which quietly narrows the gap further. Free shipping starts at ₹499, so a ₹664 two-pack and a ₹749 diffuser both arrive without a delivery charge, but a single ₹379 jar does not. If you have been comparing ₹379 with ₹749 and calling it double the money, the real comparison is closer than that once shipping is counted. And if you have been comparing ₹664 with ₹749, you are comparing thirty-odd hours of burn time with roughly fifty days of continuous room fragrance, for forty-nine rupees. I am not aware of a larger step anywhere else on the store.

The counter-argument is real and I will state it. A reed diffuser is invisible on the night. It will not be opened, lit or admired during the evening it is given; it goes on a shelf and starts working slowly. If what you need is a gift that performs in the moment — handed over at a door, opened in front of people, noticed immediately — then the ₹569 tapers or the ₹664 two-pack are genuinely the better choice and I would not talk you out of them. The reed's advantage is entirely in the eight weeks afterwards, when every other Diwali gift in that house has been eaten, distributed or put away.

The whole ₹500–₹900 band, laid out honestly

Everything within reach of a ₹700 budget, plus the two items just above it, so you can see exactly where the line falls. The rows above the divider are what your number buys today. The rows below it are what a small revision buys instead.

The ₹700 band, and the step above it
What each price actually gets the recipient
Gift What it is How long it lasts Effort asked of the recipient Price
Jar candle two-pack Two 80g soy candles, message-free, four scents About 30–36 hours of burn between them Must be lit and watched ₹664
6ml attar roll-on Personal fragrance — Adaa, Ameeri, Mastani, Nawaab Months of occasional wear Worn, so it belongs to one person ₹669–₹699
Taper candles, set of 4 Decorative dinner tapers for a table An evening, or a few Lit and supervised ₹569
Sandalwood / Smoked Oudh candle Single jars named after a material rather than a mood About 15–18 hours each Lit and watched ₹449
— the ₹749 line — No reed diffuser exists below this figure. No machine below ₹899
Morning Freshness 50ml Malabar lemon, peppermint, eucalyptus — six fibre reeds, refillable glass 6–8 weeks, continuous, unattended None. It simply runs ₹749
Evening Calm 50ml Kashmir lavender and chamomile — 8.9, the softest scent we make 6–8 weeks, continuous, unattended None, and it offends nobody ₹799

Three ways to spend ₹700, and the one that costs ₹49 more
The SOSA principle
Under ₹700 you are buying an object someone has to use. At ₹749 you are buying a room that has already changed.
Which is why the honest advice on a ₹700 page is not to spend more, but to know precisely what the extra forty-nine rupees is buying before you decide against it.

Where sweets are still the right answer, and I mean it

There is a version of this argument that pretends the box of mithai is the enemy, and it is not one I believe. Mithai is a ritual before it is a gift. For a first visit to elders, for a household where sweets are the expected form of the greeting, for the moment at a door when the point is to hand over something that will be opened and shared within the hour — sweets are correct, and a diffuser in that situation is a substitution nobody asked for. If you are going somewhere for the first time, or into a family whose form you do not yet know, take the sweets. I would.

Where the argument turns is in the second, third and fourth house. The trouble with mithai at Diwali is not quality, it is arrivals: a household that receives eleven boxes in nine days has a fridge problem rather than a gift, and yours will be the one that could not be distinguished from the others. It is also the gift with the most dietary exposure of any category — diabetes, dairy, nuts, and an increasing number of people simply eating less sugar — and none of that is knowable in advance. A candle or a bottle of fragrance asks no dietary question of anybody, does not need refrigerating, and is not consumed on the day it arrives.

Which is also why I keep insisting on the format question earlier in this page. If your gift will be handed over at a door in front of people, the mithai instinct is right about the moment, and a candle two-pack is the version of that instinct which lasts past the evening. If your gift will be received quietly by someone who then has to find room for it, a fragrance is the one thing they will not already have eleven of.

A ₹700 budget is not a small budget. It is a budget that lands forty-nine rupees below a boundary, which is a different problem entirely.

What I would buy at ₹700, in order — and what is missing

In the order I would actually choose, with the honest gap as the last row, because a list that contains only the things we happen to sell at your price is an advertisement rather than a guide. The gap here is unusually simple and unusually important: there is no SOSA reed diffuser under ₹749 and no SOSA machine under ₹899, at any size. There is also no gift set, no gift box, no gift wrap, no gift note and no gift card, so nothing on this list arrives dressed as anything other than itself.

Honest notes for buyers: candle prices are written in whole rupees — ₹379, ₹449, ₹569, ₹664. SOSA reed diffusers are alcohol-free, on a heat-stable CCT base, phthalate-free, paraben-free, IFRA-compliant and 0 ppm formaldehyde, with six fibre reeds in a refillable glass bottle. A 50ml bottle lasts six to eight weeks and is then finished; that is what a consumable gift is meant to do, and it is the reason it does not become another object somebody has to store. There is no SOSA gift set, gift box, gift wrap, gift note or gift card. Every SOSA spray is a car perfume, not a room spray. Free shipping above ₹499. SOSA Morning Freshness Malabar lemon and mint reed diffuser
The first rung of the reed line
Morning Freshness · 50ml ₹749
Cold-pressed Malabar lemon over peppermint, on a eucalyptus globulus base that slows the lemon's evaporation three to four times — which is why this runs six to eight weeks rather than the fortnight a cheap citrus gives you. 9.0 on the SOSA strength scale: bright without shouting. It is the cheapest reed we make and the lowest-polarisation one, which is exactly what you want when you are buying for someone whose taste you are guessing at.

A note from Sonal

People ask me every year why there is no ₹499 reed diffuser, usually as the festive season starts, usually politely. The answer is unglamorous. A 50ml bottle contains fifty millilitres of composed oil, six fibre reeds and a refillable glass bottle, and the carrier underneath it is CCT rather than DPG. DPG is the cheap way to make this product and it cracks above about forty degrees, which is why so many diffusers turn bitter in a Delhi summer. Take out the CCT, swap the fibre reeds for rattan, thin the oil, and I could sell you something at ₹499. I would just be selling you the thing that goes wrong in May.

So ₹749 is not a positioning decision, it is an arithmetic one, and it is why this page is honest about the gap instead of trying to talk around it. If ₹700 is a real ceiling — and for a list of fifteen names it very often is — then the ₹664 two-pack is a genuinely good gift and not a consolation. Two candles, no printed message, safe to hand to anybody.

And if the ceiling is soft, I would spend the forty-nine rupees. Not because the candle is inadequate, but because the two objects do different jobs: the candle is an evening, and the diffuser is the six weeks after the festival ends, when the house is quiet again and the last of the sweets have gone. Everything is composed in Pune, and part of every order funds a girl's classroom through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best Diwali gift under ₹700 in 2026?
The jar candle two-pack at ₹664 — two 80g soy candles in Bookshop, Cozy Corner, Misty Mornings or Evening Walks, none of which carries a printed message. If the gift is for one person rather than a household, a 6ml attar at ₹669–₹699 is the better shape.
Can I buy a reed diffuser for under ₹700?
Not from SOSA. The cheapest reed diffuser we make is Morning Freshness 50ml at ₹749, and there is no smaller bottle beneath it. The cheapest diffuser machine is the Boond at ₹899. The ₹299 Hotel Collection 15ml is sometimes mistaken for a cheap entry point — it is a refill bottle for an ultrasonic machine and does nothing without one, so it is not a standalone gift.
Is ₹664 or ₹749 the better use of the money?
It depends on whether the gift needs to perform on the night. The ₹664 two-pack is opened, lit and noticed during the evening; the ₹749 diffuser is not, and instead runs quietly for six to eight weeks afterwards. Both clear free shipping at ₹499. If you want the moment, buy the candles; if you want the two months, spend the extra forty-nine rupees.
Will a 50ml diffuser run out too quickly to be a good gift?
It runs six to eight weeks and then it is finished, and I would call that a feature rather than a flaw. A consumable gift does not become an object the recipient has to find room for or feel guilty about; it does its job, it ends, and if they liked it they buy another. Using three reeds instead of six in a bedroom will stretch a 50ml considerably — the reed count is a volume dial, and it costs nothing to use it.
Is a candle a safe Diwali gift for a colleague or a neighbour?
Yes, provided it is one of the message-free jars. Bookshop, Cozy Corner, Misty Mornings and Evening Walks at ₹379 single or ₹664 for two carry no printed line, and the Sandalwood and Smoked Oudh singles at ₹449 are the most grown-up things in the range. Buy identically across a group so nobody compares.
