The key to answering this honestly is to separate two things people lump together: the mist the machine makes, and the fragrance you add to it. They are not the same, and they carry different considerations for an animal.
The mist
A cool-mist ultrasonic diffuser atomises water at room temperature. There is no heating element, so no hot steam and no burn risk to a curious nose or paw. The mist itself is water.
The fragrance
This is where care is needed. Fragrance is made of aroma ingredients, and animals do not react to them the way we do.
