You spent on walnut, stone and black glass, and the floor still smells like the place you bought your first phone. That is not a fragrance problem, and I am going to spend most of this page telling you not to buy a fragrance for it. The electronics-store smell is a short list, and every item on the list has a fix that costs nothing.
Quick answers — read this first
Why does my premium appliance showroom still smell like an electronics store? Because four smells are present and none has been dealt with: new plastic and packaging off-gassing from freshly unboxed units, warm circuitry and dust sitting on vents and on the tops of appliances, cardboard stored within the air of the floor, and air sealed overnight with the AC off. Each one is recognisable on its own and together they are the smell of a phone shop. A finish-level interior does nothing to the air.

Can I fix it with a scent machine? No, and a machine layered over these smells makes a fifth smell that is worse than any of the four. Fragrance adds; it does not subtract. The fixes are unboxing in the back store, running fresh air for an hour before opening, cleaning the tops of appliances and the vents, and getting cardboard out of the sales-floor air entirely. Only when the floor smells of nothing does fragrance have anything to sit on.

What should I buy, then? Nothing this month. Do the four fixes, wait a week, and walk the floor at five in the afternoon with your nose. If it smells of nothing, you have the base a good showroom needs. After that - and only after - a Mountain Breeze reed (Rs 849) at the desk of a small studio, or one SOSA Vaayu (Rs 11,999) for a connected floor from about 1,500 sq ft. Fragrance is an interiors decision like lighting; SOSA makes no claim that it changes footfall, dwell time or sales.
The short answer
Short answer: the smell is a finite list - new plastic and packaging, warm circuitry and dust, cardboard in the back store, sealed overnight air - and none of the four is a fragrance problem. Fix them in that order and the floor will smell of nothing, which is the point.
The pick: buy nothing. Not a reed, not a machine, until the floor passes the smells-of-nothing test at five in the afternoon. Only then does a Mountain Breeze reed (₹849) at a small studio desk, or one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) from about 1,500 sq ft of connected floor, become the right next step.
Next step: do the four fixes this week, then ask for a showroom scenting plan and tell us honestly what the floor smells of - we will say whether it is ready.

Straight answer
Why does my premium appliance showroom still smell like an electronics store?
Because the smell of an electronics store is not a mood or an atmosphere; it is four specific things, and a premium fit-out changes none of them. Walk the floor at closing and you will find them one by one. New plastic and packaging: every unit that was unboxed on the sales floor released its protective film, foam and the plasticiser smell of a fresh moulding into the air you sell in. Warm circuitry and dust: display units run all day, the air over a warm vent carries whatever dust sits on it, and the tops of tall appliances collect a fine grey layer that nobody at eye level sees and everybody smells. Cardboard: a back store with boxes stacked to the ceiling and a door that stands open shares its air with the floor, and corrugated board has a smell of its own that reads as warehouse. Sealed overnight air: the AC goes off at closing, the doors are shut, and eight hours of off-gassing accumulates in a closed box that you then open the door on at ten. That is the list. It is short, and it is the whole answer. What I want you to notice is that nothing on it is a fragrance problem, so nothing on it is solved by a fragrance. Fragrance adds a smell; it never subtracts one. Put cedar over plastic and you get cedar-and-plastic, a fifth smell that is worse than either, and the visitor who cannot name what is wrong will still know something is. So the fix is four jobs, in order. Unbox in the back store, never on the floor, and let a unit stand a day before it goes on display. Get the cardboard out of the sales-floor air entirely - a closed door on the back store, and boxes flattened and gone the same day. Put the tops of the appliances and the vents on the cleaning schedule, because the floor gets mopped and the tops do not. And run fresh air for an hour before opening - AC on with the fresh-air damper open, or the doors propped for the first hour of a cool morning - so the overnight box is emptied before the first visitor breathes it. Then the test: at five in the afternoon, at the specification table, the floor should smell of nothing at all. Until it passes, buy nothing. Not a reed, not a machine. When it passes, a Mountain Breeze reed at ₹849 at the desk of a small studio, or one SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 from about 1,500 sq ft of connected floor - waterless, on a timer, key-locked - is the next step, and what a premium showroom should smell like describes the register. Fragrance is an interiors decision like lighting or music: SOSA makes no claim that it changes footfall, dwell time, conversion or sales, no claim about what it does to any appliance or finish, and it is never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or extraction. Any live kitchen or coffee counter stays unscented regardless. Ask for a showroom scenting plan when the floor smells of nothing, and not before.
An electronics-store smell is four things - new plastic, warm dust, cardboard, sealed overnight air - and none is fixed by fragrance. Unbox in the back, clean tops and vents, cardboard out, fresh air before opening. Buy nothing until the floor smells of nothing; then a reed (Rs 849) or a Vaayu (Rs 11,999) by size.
This is the machine for a connected floor from about 1,500 sq ft - one SOSA Vaayu, waterless, timer and key-lock, ₹11,999 - and this page is asking you not to buy it yet. Do the four fixes first.

What this page tells you to buy - and when

Nothing today. The two products below are here so you know what the right next step looks like once the floor smells of nothing, not so you can skip the four fixes.

SOSA Mountain Breeze Reed Diffuser
After the test - a studio under about 750 sq ft
SOSA Mountain Breeze Reed Diffuser
Himalayan pine, sage and cedar - the driest register SOSA makes and the one that reads as a well-kept home rather than a shop. 50ml Rs 849 lasts 6-8 weeks at a desk; 130ml Rs 1,349 lasts 14-18 weeks. Reaches one desk zone, which for a small studio is all it should. Alcohol-free, six fibre reeds, flip weekly. Put it on the desk only when the floor has smelt of nothing for a week.
From ₹849
SOSA Vaayu
After the test - a connected floor from about 1,500 sq ft
SOSA Vaayu
Waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, about 2,000-3,000 sq ft on one unit, Rs 11,999. No water, so it adds no moisture and leaves no residue; 1h/4h/8h/24h timer; adjustable intensity; key-lock so the level stays where the team set it; under 38dB; wall or HVAC mount so it sits where the AC carries it. The wrong purchase while the floor still smells of plastic, and the right one once it does not.
From ₹11,999
SOSA Vaayu
Named here for later, not for now
SOSA Vaayu Waterless Diffuser
1000m³ coverage on a single unit, Rs 11,999, adjustable intensity, 400ml tank running 90+ days a fill, Bluetooth app with 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, key-lock, under 38dB. The four 100ml bottles in the box are the supply; confirm refill availability with SOSA. Buy it when the floor smells of nothing, and place it where the AC will carry it.

The four smells and the fix for each

Take them in this order, because each fix makes the next one easier to judge. Nothing here costs more than an hour of someone's time and a change to the cleaning schedule.

1
New plastic
Unbox in the back store and let a unit stand a day
A freshly unboxed appliance is the strongest single source on the floor. Protective film, foam inserts, the tape, and the moulding itself all release a plasticiser smell for the first day or two, and if that happens on the sales floor the sales floor is where it stays. The discipline is simple and most showrooms already have the room for it: units are unboxed in the back store, film and foam go straight into a closed bin, and the unit stands for a day with the back-store extractor running before it is wheeled out. A showroom that receives stock every week and unboxes on the floor will never smell of nothing, whatever it buys afterwards. The plastic-and-packaging page goes through the unboxing routine in more detail, and whether a machine can cover new-plastic smell gives the honest answer, which is no.
Rule: if a unit went on display the same hour it was unboxed, the floor is going to smell of it for two days. Give it the day in the back.
2
Warm circuitry and dust
Clean the tops of the appliances and the vents, not only the floor
Display units run all day. A running unit is warm, warm air rises off its vents, and whatever dust sits on those vents and on the top surfaces goes with it. The floor is mopped every night and the fronts are wiped, but the tops of the tall units - fridges, freestanding ovens, the upper edge of a chimney - are above eye level and off the schedule, and the vents on the back of a television or an AC indoor unit are never touched. That is the warm-dust note, and it is the part of the electronics-store smell that most reads as tired. Put tops and vents on a weekly list, and the AC filters on a monthly one. Why a large store smells dusty even after cleaning is the whole of that problem on one page.
Test: run a white cloth along the top of the tallest unit on the floor. What comes off is what the visitor is breathing.
3
Cardboard
Get it out of the sales-floor air, not only out of sight
Corrugated board smells of paper, glue and warehouse, and a back store stacked with it shares that smell with the floor the moment its door stands open, which in most showrooms is all day. Out of sight is not enough; it has to be out of the air. That means a door on the back store that closes and stays closed, boxes flattened and taken off site the same day they are emptied rather than kept for a return that may never happen, and no stock stored under display kitchens behind a plinth where it cannot be seen but can certainly be smelt. Making an electronics showroom feel less like a warehouse puts cardboard where it belongs in the list of layers.
SOSA Mountain Breeze Reed Diffuser
When the cardboard is gone and the floor smells of nothing, this is the most a small studio should buy: one Mountain Breeze reed at the desk.

4
Sealed overnight air
Run fresh air for an hour before the doors open
At closing the AC goes off, the doors are locked, and every source on the floor - the units, the fit-out, whatever cardboard is still inside - carries on releasing into a closed box for eight or ten hours. At ten in the morning the first person to open the door gets all of it at once, and so does the first visitor. The fix is a routine, not a product: the AC comes on with the fresh-air damper open an hour before opening, or on a cool morning the doors are propped for the first hour, and the overnight box is emptied before anybody trades in it. Why a showroom smells stale in the morning is that routine on its own page.
Rule: if the first person in each morning can smell the floor, the overnight air has not been cleared. Nothing you diffuse at eleven will change what was in the room at nine.
5
Fragrance
The last layer, and it waits for the other four
Only now does fragrance enter the conversation, and only if the floor has passed the test. The register for an appliance showroom is a well-kept home - dry cedar, sage, tea, light woods on a floor of wood, stone and dark glass; a clean lemon-and-mint on a white, handleless one - held at a level the advisor who stands there nine hours has stopped noticing. Nothing sweet, and in a kitchen-appliance showroom nothing edible, because the hob and the coffee counter own those smells and those zones stay unscented. Carried by one Vaayu on a timer from about 1,500 sq ft, a reed at the desk below that. It sits on top of a floor that smells of nothing; it cannot sit on top of one that smells of plastic.
SOSA Vaayu
The Vaayu - waterless, timer, key-lock, wall or HVAC mount - is the sales-floor machine for later. Not for a floor that still smells of cardboard.

The SOSA principle
A premium showroom that still smells like an electronics store has four smells to remove and no fragrance to add.
Plastic, warm dust, cardboard, overnight air. Unbox in the back, clean the tops, close the door, run fresh air. Then, and only then, one dry register held low.
SOSA Mountain Breeze Reed Diffuser
The honest purchase for a small studio, once the floor smells of nothing: one Mountain Breeze reed at the desk, ₹849 for 50ml, 6-8 weeks, reaches one desk zone.

Smell by smell: the source, the fix, the wrong fix

The same list laid out as a table, with the fix that works and the one that gets bought instead. If you recognise your floor in the right-hand column, the left-hand column is the job.

The SOSA diagnosis
Four smells, four non-fragrance fixes
The smell Where it comes from, what fixes it, and what does not
New plastic and packaging
Units unboxed on the sales floor. Fix: unbox in the back, film and foam into a closed bin, a day standing before display. Wrong fix: a machine turned up over it, which makes plastic-and-cedar.
Warm circuitry and dust
Running display units lifting dust off vents and tops. Fix: tops and vents on the weekly list, AC filters monthly. Wrong fix: a stronger scent, which now smells of dust-and-scent.
Cardboard
An open back-store door, boxes kept for returns, stock under plinths. Fix: door closed, boxes flattened and gone the same day, nothing stored on the floor. Wrong fix: a reed at the back-store door.
Sealed overnight air
AC off, doors shut, ten hours of accumulation. Fix: fresh air for an hour before opening. Wrong fix: switching the machine on at nine to cover what the night left.
SOSA VaayuOnce all four are gone
One dry register, low, on a timer - a reed at the desk below about 750 sq ft, one Vaayu from about 1,500 sq ft of connected floor. Demo zones stay unscented. View →

The individual problems each have their own page: a new showroom that smells of plastic and packaging, a showroom that smells stale in the morning, and ventilation versus fragrance in a new showroom, which sets the order of operations. For what the floor should smell of once it smells of nothing, what a premium home-electronics showroom should smell like gives the register. SOSA makes no claim that any of this changes footfall, dwell time, conversion or sales, and no claim about what fragrance does to any appliance on display.

SOSA Vaayu
For later - the sales-floor machine: SOSA Vaayu, ₹11,999, waterless, timer and key-lock, up to 1000m³ of connected sales floor, placed where the AC carries it.
First the four fixes, then the test, then - if it passes - one machine

A fragrance cannot subtract a smell. Put cedar over plastic and you have plastic and cedar. Fix the plastic.

Nothing on this page is bought until the floor smells of nothing at five in the afternoon. Between 750 and 1,500 sq ft a Vaayu is bought for control, no water and distribution - never for coverage. The four 100ml bottles in the Vaayu box are the supply; confirm refill availability with SOSA. Fragrance is an interiors decision like lighting or music, with no claim about footfall, dwell time, conversion or sales, and no claim about what it does to any appliance or finish. It works alongside ventilation, cleaning and extraction, never instead of them - which on this page means after them. Any live kitchen or coffee counter stays unscented. A note from Sonal

The call I get most often from this vertical begins with a photograph of a beautiful floor and ends with the sentence "but it still smells like a phone shop". I understand the frustration; a great deal of money went into making the place look like a home, and the air is undoing it. But I have learnt to ask four questions before I mention anything SOSA sells. Where do you unbox? Who cleans the tops of the tall units? Where is the cardboard right now? And what happens to the air between closing and opening? The answers explain the smell every single time.

I then say the thing that costs me the sale, which is that nothing I make will fix it. A fragrance adds. It cannot take plastic out of the air; it can only sit on top of it, and plastic-and-cedar is a worse smell than plastic. So the honest advice is to spend nothing this month, do the four jobs, and walk the floor at five in the afternoon a week later. If it smells of nothing, you have the base. Ventilation versus fragrance in a new showroom is the same order written for a floor that has just opened.

When it does smell of nothing, the answer is small: a Mountain Breeze reed at the desk of a studio, or one Vaayu at ₹11,999 on a timer with the lock on from about 1,500 sq ft, and the live kitchen or coffee counter left alone. And through all of it: fragrance is an interiors decision like lighting or music; SOSA makes no claim that it moves footfall, dwell time, conversion or sales, and no claim about what it does to anything on display. It is never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or extraction. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly makes a premium appliance showroom smell like an electronics store?
Four things, usually together: new plastic and packaging released by units unboxed on the sales floor, warm circuitry and dust lifted off vents and the tops of tall appliances by running display units, cardboard in a back store whose door stands open, and air sealed overnight with the AC off. A premium fit-out changes none of them, which is why the floor can look like a home and smell like a phone shop.
Will a scent machine get rid of the electronics-store smell on my floor?
No. A fragrance adds a smell and cannot subtract one, so a machine run over plastic, dust or cardboard produces a fifth smell that is worse than the four it was meant to hide. The fix for each is unboxing in the back store, cleaning the tops and vents, keeping cardboard out of the sales-floor air, and running fresh air before opening. SOSA will tell you to buy nothing until those are done.
In what order should I tackle plastic, dust, cardboard and stale overnight air?
Plastic first, because unboxing in the back store is the single biggest source and the easiest habit to change. Then cardboard, because closing the back-store door and clearing boxes the same day removes the warehouse note. Then tops, vents and AC filters on a written cleaning schedule. Then the pre-opening fresh-air hour. Judge the result at five in the afternoon, at the specification table, a week later.
How do I know my showroom floor is ready for fragrance at all?
Stand at the specification table at five in the afternoon, after a full trading day, and breathe. If the floor smells of nothing in particular - no plastic, no warm dust, no paper - it is ready. If it smells of anything you did not choose, that is still the job. Only a floor that passes this test should carry a Mountain Breeze reed at Rs 849 or, from about 1,500 sq ft, one SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999.
Once the electronics-store smell is gone, what should my showroom smell of instead?
A beautifully kept home rather than a store or a fragrance: dry cedar, sage, a little tea and light woods on a floor of wood, stone and dark glass, or a clean lemon-and-mint on a white, handleless floor. Nothing sweet and, in a kitchen-appliance showroom, nothing edible, because the hob and coffee counter own those smells and those zones stay unscented. Set the level for the advisor who stands there all day.
