Almost everybody who calls themselves a woody-fragrance person is thinking of one specific wood, and which one decides the answer completely - so the useful first move is to work out whether you mean cedar, vetiver or sandalwood.
Quick answers — read this first
Which SOSA fragrance should a woody-fragrance lover buy? It depends which wood. Cedar and vetiver people want the 1 Hotels style (cedarwood, vetiver, green leaves). People who want cedar without weight want the Ritz-Carlton style (white tea, bergamot, cedar). Sandalwood people want the Four Seasons style (citrus, floral, sandalwood). Warm polished wood people want the St. Regis style (amber, violet, woods). All from Rs 299.

How do I know which wood I like? By what you dislike in other woody fragrances. If they feel too creamy or soft, you are a cedar or vetiver person. If they feel too dry or severe, you are a sandalwood person. If they feel flat, you want something with a lift - green leaves or violet.

What is the best woody starting point? The 1 Hotels style if you want wood to be the subject, or the Ritz-Carlton style if you want wood as a grounding under something cleaner. The first is room-specific; the second works everywhere.
The short answer
Short answer: almost everybody who calls themselves a woody person means one specific wood: cedar people want dry and structured, vetiver people want earthy and green, sandalwood people want creamy and soft. That maps to the 1 Hotels style, the Ritz-Carlton style and the Four Seasons style respectively, with the St. Regis style for warm polished wood. From Rs 299.
The pick: the Day & Night reed duo (₹1,498) as the whole-home start, or single signatures from ₹749.
Shop: SOSA reed diffusers and the Hotel Collection scenting range.
A home that smells like itself - at a glanceStep 1 - honest air first: ventilation and source care in every roomStep 2 - one signature family, room by room (reeds from ₹749)Step 3 - occasions layered by mist diffuser (scent from ₹299)Large open homes - the Vaayu machine, on a schedule (luxury)All alcohol-free · made in India
A home's fragrance is a system, not a product: honest air beneath, one scent family expressed room by room, occasions layered on top, and consistency held for years. That is what guests experience as "your home always smells incredible" - and what the household experiences as home.
Straight answer
Which SOSA Hotel Collection fragrance suits a woody-fragrance lover?
Work out which wood you mean. 1. Cedar and vetiver people - if you want wood dry, structured and earthy, with no creaminess - the 1 Hotels style (cedarwood, vetiver, green leaves) from the collection (from ₹299). It is the only register here where wood is unambiguously the subject, and the green leaves keep it contemporary rather than club-like. Best in a study or a living room rather than as a whole-home register. 2. Cedar-without-weight people - if you like the grounding but not the density - the Ritz-Carlton style (white tea, bergamot, cedar). Cedar as a floor under a transparent top, which works in every room at every hour. 3. Sandalwood people - if dry woods read as severe to you - the Four Seasons style (citrus, floral, sandalwood). Creamy, warm and gracious, and the least austere wood in the range. 4. Polished-wood people - if you want wood as structure behind warmth - the St. Regis style (amber, violet, woods), which is plush and evening-elegant rather than dry. 5. Not sure? Diagnose by dislikes: if other woody fragrances feel too creamy you are in group one, too severe puts you in group three, and too flat means you want a lift. Or take the pack of seven in 15ml at ₹1,799 and settle it in a fortnight. Sukoon ₹1,799, Boond ₹799, three to six drops. SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations; not affiliated with any hotel brand. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
One line: which wood do you mean? Cedar and vetiver means 1 Hotels style, cedar without weight means Ritz-Carlton, sandalwood means Four Seasons, polished warm means St. Regis. From Rs 299.
The whole-home start most households choose: the Day & Night duo - Morning Freshness for the day's bright spaces and Evening Calm for the bedroom - at ₹1,498, flame-free and plug-free. Add a mist diffuser with the Hotel Collection (from ₹299) for hosting hours.

Which wood do you actually mean?

Diagnosing which woody person you are.

Why this works
Three kinds of woody lover, three answers
1 Cedar people want dry, clean and structured 2 Vetiver people want earthy, rooty and green 3 Sandalwood people want creamy, soft and warm 4 1 Hotels, Ritz-Carlton and Four Seasons styles. From Rs 299
Start where most households start: the Day & Night duo at ₹1,498 - or a single signature reed from ₹749.
1
Woody lovers are three groups
And they disagree with each other
The label conceals a genuine split. Cedar people want dryness and structure and find creamy woods soft to the point of being uninteresting. Vetiver people want earth and root and green, and are the most uncompromising of the three - a vetiver register is the least likely of any wood to be universally liked in a household. Sandalwood people want warmth and roundness and find cedar and vetiver severe or, at worst, reminiscent of cleaning products. Those three preferences are not variations on a theme; they are close to opposites, which is why a recommendation built on the word woody so frequently misses. Establishing which group somebody belongs to takes one question and saves a bottle.
Tip: they are not variations on a theme - a vetiver person and a sandalwood person want opposite rooms.
2
Diagnose by dislikes
What annoyed you about the last one
The fastest way to place yourself is negative rather than positive, because dislikes are better known and more stable than preferences. If woody fragrances have tended to feel too soft, sweet or creamy, you are a cedar or vetiver person and the dry green direction is yours. If they have tended to feel severe, sharp or reminiscent of a cleaning product, you are a sandalwood person and the creamy direction is yours. And if they have tended to feel flat or dated rather than either, the issue is not the wood at all - it is the absence of a lift, and the answer is a register with a green, citrus or powdery top rather than a different wood.
3
Then the room caveat
Wood as subject is room-specific
One practical note for anybody in the first group. A register where wood is genuinely the subject is a strong character, and strong characters work best in a specific room rather than throughout a house: a study, a workroom, a living room used in the evening. Run through an entire home it becomes the thing everybody in the household is living inside, chosen by one person, and it is the commonest route by which somebody comes to dislike a fragrance they were enthusiastic about. The usual resolution is two registers: the characterful one where you spend your own time, and a transparent cedar-under-tea register everywhere else - which costs Rs 299 more and solves it entirely.
Tip: run through a whole house, a strong character becomes the thing everybody is living inside - chosen by one person.
The SOSA principle
Cedar people and sandalwood people want opposite rooms - and both call themselves woody-fragrance lovers.
Diagnose by what annoyed you last time: too creamy, too severe, or too flat.

A note from Sonal

Nobody actually buys a diffuser. In ten years of making fragrance I have never once met a customer who wanted a bottle with sticks in it. What they want is the moment someone walks into their home, pauses, and says "wow - it smells incredible in here." They want their children to grow up with a smell that will mean home for the rest of their lives. They want the house to feel finished.

That is why I compose scents the way I do - not as products but as the missing layer of a home: the fresh note at the door that says this house is kept, the warm one in the living room that says you are welcome, the lavender in the bedroom that says the day is over. One family of scents, held for years, becomes something no decor budget can buy: identity.

Everything here is alcohol-free, flame-free where it matters, and made in small batches in India. And a part of every order supports girl-child education - because a home's best fragrance is what it gives back.

Frequently asked questions

Which SOSA fragrance should a woody lover buy?
It depends which wood: the 1 Hotels style for cedar and vetiver, the Ritz-Carlton style for cedar without weight, the Four Seasons style for sandalwood, and the St. Regis style for polished warm wood. From Rs 299.
How do I know which wood I like?
By what annoyed you last time. Too creamy means cedar or vetiver; too severe means sandalwood; too flat means you want a lift rather than a different wood.
Which is the safest woody starting point?
The Ritz-Carlton style, because cedar sits as a floor under a transparent top and works in every room at every hour. The 1 Hotels style is stronger but room-specific.
Can I run a woody register through the whole house?
A transparent one, yes. A characterful one is better placed in one room - run everywhere it becomes what the whole household lives inside, chosen by one person.
What if I want to decide by trying?
The pack of seven in 15ml is Rs 1,799, the same as one 300ml, and settles it in a fortnight. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Product recommendations reflect the SOSA range; the home-care and buying advice applies to any brand.

Facts verified August 2026: Olfactory signals reach the brain's emotion and memory centres (amygdala, hippocampus) ahead of conscious processing, which is why scents trigger emotional responses and autobiographical memories with unusual speed and durability; a home's ambient scent influences mood, comfort and social judgments at moderate, replicated effect sizes, with gentle intensities outperforming strong ones and no fragrance effect surviving unmanaged odour sources. SOSA reed diffusers are alcohol-free fragrance oil with natural rattan reeds (no flame, electricity or water), from ₹749, lasting roughly 6-10 weeks per fill; refills from ₹2,399. SOSA ultrasonic (mist) diffusers - Boond (300ml, ₹799), Sukoon (500ml, ₹1,799), Megh (6L, ₹3,499) - use a separate water-based Hotel Collection fragrance (from ₹299); this is not reed diffuser oil. SOSA Vaayu is a waterless cold-air machine with Bluetooth app and timer, ~1000m³ coverage, ₹11,999. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own interpretations; SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. Cruelty-free, vegan, made in India.
