What people mean by this is rarely snobbery in reverse. They are not against well-known perfume and they usually still own some. They have simply noticed that part of what they paid last time went somewhere other than into the bottle, and they would like to know how much of it.
Quick answers — read this first
What am I actually paying for in an attar? In ours: the materials, the blending, the bottle and the shipping. Nothing else is in there, because all four SOSA attars are the house's own compositions - nothing licensed, nothing bought in as a finished formula, no name to be paid for on the way through. That is the whole of the answer to your question, and it is a fact about how the products came to exist rather than a claim about how they smell. Whether you like the smell is a separate matter and only you can settle it.
Does that make it better than something with a famous name on it? No, and I would lose your trust in one sentence if I said so. A well-known perfume may be beautifully made; I have no way to audit anybody else's bottle and I am not going to pretend to. What I can tell you is what is in ours and who blended it: an ISIPCA Versailles-trained perfumer, hand-blended in Pune, on a skin-safe jojoba and sandalwood base with no alcohol and no DPG carriers. And SOSA publishes no outcome claim for a fragrance, because there is no honest way to measure one.
So what do I buy, and what does it cost?SOSA Adaa, the 3ml, at ₹379. Bergamot and green cardamom on top, neroli and jasmine sambac in the heart, white musk in the base - all five published, so you can rule it out yourself. It wears 6-8 hours, which is the only wear figure we publish. The 6ml is ₹669 and the 12ml ₹1,149. Buy the 3ml first, because we sell no sampler, and not the Pack of 3 at ₹1,055, which is three full-size attars and does not include Adaa.
The short answer
Short answer: answer it on material rather than on branding. All four SOSA attars are the house's own compositions, so nothing in the bottle was licensed and no third-party name sits inside the price: what you are paying for is the materials, the blending and the bottle. Adaa is ₹379 for 3ml - bergamot, green cardamom, neroli, jasmine sambac and white musk, alcohol-free, hand-blended in Pune by an ISIPCA Versailles-trained perfumer, wearing 6-8 hours. Nawaab at ₹399 is the most expensive of the four to fill.
The pick: the 3ml of SOSA Adaa at ₹379 - bergamot, green cardamom, neroli, jasmine sambac and white musk, alcohol-free, no DPG carriers, and it wears 6-8 hours. If what you want is the most raw material we put in a bottle, SOSA Nawaab at ₹399 for 3ml is the most expensive attar in the line to fill, with white royal oud, Mysore sandalwood, Kashmir saffron, aged tobacco, leather and amber, and no synthetic oudh in it.
Next step: tell me the three notes you already know you like and the three you will not have, and I will tell you which of our four compositions is closest and which is not worth your money - Ask for an attar recommendation.
None of those lines says our attars are better than something with a famous name on it. I have no way to audit anybody else's bottle, so all five lines are about ours.
SOSA Adaa - SOSA's own composition, with every note on the listing
Which attar smells sophisticated without a reader having to pay for designer branding?
SOSA Adaa, the 3ml, at ₹379 - and the reason is structural rather than rhetorical. SOSA makes exactly four attars - Adaa, Ameeri, Mastani and Nawaab - and all four are this house's own compositions. Nothing in them was licensed, nothing was bought in as a finished formula, and there is no name being paid for anywhere between the materials and the bottle. So when you ask what you are paying for, the list is short and checkable: the materials, the blending, the bottle and getting it to you. That is not a claim about how anything smells. It is a claim about how the product came to exist, and it happens to be the exact question you asked. What I will not do is turn it into a comparison. A well-known perfume may be beautifully made and I have no way to audit anybody else's bottle, so I am not going to tell you that spending less gets you more. What I will do is put ours in the open. Adaa is bergamot, green cardamom, neroli, jasmine sambac and white musk, published in that order, on a skin-safe jojoba and sandalwood base, alcohol-free, with no DPG carriers, blended to IFRA standards and phthalate-free, composed by an ISIPCA Versailles-trained perfumer and hand-blended in Pune. It wears 6-8 hours, which is the only longevity figure SOSA publishes for anything. Buy the 3ml at ₹379: the 6ml is ₹669, the 12ml ₹1,149, and we sell no attar sampler or discovery set, so the 3ml is the sample size. Rule-outs by name. The Pack of 3 at ₹1,055 is Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani at full size rather than a sampler, the three heaviest attars we make, and it does not contain Adaa, so it is the wrong way in. Mastani carries vanilla and tonka as well as real jasmine sambac and real rose absolute, so it is out if sweetness is out. And Nawaab at ₹399 is the one to look at if your real interest is raw-material cost - it is the most expensive attar in the line to fill, with no synthetic oudh in it - but it carries white royal oud, aged tobacco and leather, and it is the heaviest thing we make for skin. Two disclosures. Adaa carries jasmine sambac in a supporting role, and if jasmine is out for you then this bottle is out with it. And SOSA publishes no outcome claim for a fragrance, because there is no honest way to measure one - nothing about looking or reading expensive to anyone - and makes no health or skin-safety claim of any kind, because what a material does on your skin is a question for a doctor rather than for a perfumer. Ask for an attar recommendation and tell me what you already know you like.
All four SOSA attars are the house's own compositions, so nothing in the bottle was licensed and no name sits inside the price - just materials, blending and the bottle. Adaa 3ml at ₹379 is the buy; Nawaab at ₹399 is the costliest of the four to fill; the Pack of 3 has no Adaa in it.
The bottle is one SOSA Adaa - bergamot and green cardamom over neroli, jasmine sambac and white musk. This house's own composition, hand-blended in Pune, alcohol-free with no DPG carriers, and it wears 6-8 hours. ₹379 for the 3ml, which is the sample size because we sell no sampler.
One attar for a reader who wants restraint, and one for a reader whose real question is how much raw material a bottle can hold. Both are this house's own compositions and both publish every note, which is the only way you can check any of this rather than take it from me.
Bergamot and green cardamom on top, neroli and jasmine sambac in the heart, white musk in the base. SOSA's own composition, hand-blended in Pune, alcohol-free, no DPG carriers, and it wears 6-8 hours. The lightest of our four attars. ₹379 for the 3ml, which is the sample size.
White royal oud, Mysore sandalwood, Kashmir saffron, aged tobacco, leather and amber, with no synthetic oudh in it. The most expensive attar in the line to fill, and the heaviest thing we make for skin - so if oud, tobacco or leather is out for you, this bottle is out with them. ₹399 for the 3ml.
3ml, 6ml and 12ml at ₹379, ₹669 and ₹1,149. Published notes: bergamot, green cardamom, neroli, jasmine sambac and white musk. An alcohol-free perfume oil with no DPG carriers, on a skin-safe jojoba and sandalwood base, blended to IFRA standards, phthalate-free, composed by an ISIPCA Versailles-trained perfumer and hand-blended in Pune. It wears 6-8 hours, which is the only longevity figure SOSA publishes. Positioned for office hours and daytime weddings. No oud, no vanilla, no rose.
Three things you can check about any fragrance before you decide what its price is made of, and how ours answer them.
1
Ask who composed it
A composition either belongs to the house selling it or it came from somewhere else
This is the part of your question that has a factual answer. All four SOSA attars were composed by this house, by an ISIPCA Versailles-trained perfumer, and are hand-blended in Pune. Nothing in them was licensed and nothing arrived as a finished formula to be bottled. SOSA is independent and made in India. I am telling you that because it is the direct answer to what you asked, not because it makes anything smell better - a composition made in-house can be dull and one made anywhere else can be superb. What it does mean is that the price has fewer places to leak into, and that if you want to ask me why a material is in there, I am the person who put it there.
Tip: Ask a house who composed a fragrance. The answer, or the absence of one, is informative either way.
One bottle of Adaa from ₹379 is the whole purchase here.
A published note list and a published carrier are the only parts of quality you can verify before buying
Branding is easy to see and material is not, so the useful move is to look for the things a house has committed to in writing. All four of our attars publish their notes in full and sit on a skin-safe jojoba and sandalwood base, alcohol-free, with no DPG carriers, blended to IFRA standards and phthalate-free. Where a material claim is specific we publish that too: no synthetic oudh in Nawaab, no synthetic rose in Ameeri, real jasmine sambac and real rose absolute in Mastani. Those are statements about what was bought and blended, which is a different kind of sentence from one about how a fragrance will make you feel, and we do not make the second kind at all.
Tip: Note claims you can check beat adjectives you cannot, in either direction.
One bottle of Mastani from ₹389 is the whole purchase here.
Nawaab is the most expensive of the four to fill, and nothing on its label says so
If your instinct is that price should track material, Nawaab is the interesting case in our own range. It is the most expensive attar in the line to fill, because white royal oud, Mysore sandalwood and Kashmir saffron are expensive things to buy, and it carries no synthetic oudh. Its 3ml is ₹399, twenty rupees more than Adaa's, which is nothing like the difference in what goes into it. That is how material cost actually behaves in a range: it is real, it is not linear, and it is invisible from the outside. And Nawaab is still the wrong bottle for anybody who will not wear oud, aged tobacco or leather, which matters more than what it cost us.
One bottle of Nawaab from ₹399 is the whole purchase here.
The honest answer to paying for a name is not that a name is worthless, but that SOSA's four attars are its own compositions, so there is no name inside the price to account for.
Which turns the question from a moral one into a checkable one: who composed it, what is in it, and what is published in writing.
This house's own composition: SOSA Adaa was composed here and is hand-blended in Pune, alcohol-free and with no DPG carriers. ₹379 for the 3ml.
The three questions this page turns branding into, and how the SOSA attar range answers each of them.
The SOSA shortlist
What to ask instead of what the name on the box is worth
The question
What to do
Who composed it?
All four SOSA attars were composed by this house, by an ISIPCA Versailles-trained perfumer. Nothing licensed, nothing bought in as a finished formula. SOSA is independent and made in India.
What is it carried in?
A skin-safe jojoba and sandalwood base, alcohol-free, with no DPG carriers. The carrier is most of the bottle, which is why it is the first thing worth asking about and the last thing usually printed.
Are the notes published?
All five of Adaa's are, in order, and so are the four attars' entire note lists. A published list is what lets you refuse a bottle before you buy it rather than after.
Are the material claims specific?
Where we make them, yes: no synthetic oudh in Nawaab, no synthetic rose in Ameeri, real jasmine sambac and real rose absolute in Mastani. Specific enough to be wrong, which is the point.
Where is the raw-material cost?
Nawaab, which is the most expensive of the four to fill at ₹399 for 3ml - twenty rupees above Adaa, which tells you material cost is real and not linear.
What is the wear figure?
6-8 hours for the attars, and that is the only longevity figure SOSA publishes for anything it sells. No figure is published for the solid body perfumes, so none is given for them here.
If the question underneath yours is what actually makes one composition read as more refined than another, that is worked through in what makes one perfume smell more refined than another, which takes material quality, the number of materials, the transitions and the carrier one at a time and uses Nawaab as the example. And if the question is really about money rather than about names, the arithmetic is in an affordable attar that does not smell like a cheap body spray, which quotes nobody's prices but ours. SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house and every attar named here is its own composition.
Where the material cost actually sits: Nawaab at ₹399 for 3ml is the most expensive attar in the line to fill, with no synthetic oudh in it - and it carries oud, aged tobacco and leather.
SOSA makes exactly four attars, all four are this house's own compositions, and all four publish their notes in full - which is the only reason a page like this can be written without asking you to trust anybody. Below are the three worth considering and the honest reason each might not be yours. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
The SOSA attar specification
Three of SOSA's own compositions, and what rules each of them out
A reader who wants restraint and a price with nothing hidden in it
Bergamot, green cardamom, neroli, jasmine sambac and white musk. The lightest of the four, alcohol-free, no DPG carriers, wears 6-8 hours. ₹379 for the 3ml. Carries jasmine sambac, so a jasmine-hater should pass
A reader whose real question is how much material is in the bottle
White royal oud, Mysore sandalwood, Kashmir saffron, aged tobacco, leather and amber, no synthetic oudh. The most expensive of the four to fill and the heaviest SOSA makes for skin. ₹399 for the 3ml. Out if oud is out
A reader who wants depth without the tobacco and the leather
Taif rose, real Indian sandalwood, Persian saffron and soft oudh, with no synthetic rose in it. The most smoothly blended of the four. ₹385 for the 3ml. It carries rose and a soft oudh, and both are disclosed here
This page answers a branding question with material facts and stops there. SOSA makes exactly four attars, all of them this house's own compositions, and the Pack of 3 at ₹1,055 is three full-size bottles rather than a sampler and excludes Adaa. The only longevity figure SOSA publishes is that the attars wear 6-8 hours; no wear figure at all is published for SOSA's solid body perfumes at ₹459-₹549, and no note list is published for those solids either, which is why this page never tells you how one of them smells. SOSA publishes no outcome claim for a fragrance, because there is no honest way to measure one - nothing about compliments, nothing about being noticed, and nothing about anything reading as expensive to anybody - and makes no health or skin-safety claim of any kind, because what a material does on your skin is a question for a doctor rather than for a perfumer. Free shipping above ₹499 is the only other thing I will promise you. Ask for an attar recommendation before you spend anything.

ISIPCA Versailles
A note from Sonal
I like this letter when it arrives, because it is usually written by somebody who has been honest with themselves about money. They are not attacking well-known perfume and they often still own a bottle of it they love. They have simply worked out that part of what they paid went somewhere other than into the liquid, and they would like to know how much - which is a completely fair thing to want to know and an awkward thing to ask.
So here is the factual part. All four of our attars were composed by this house. I trained at ISIPCA in Versailles, I wrote these four formulas, and they are hand-blended in Pune. Nothing was licensed, nothing arrived as a finished formula in a drum to be poured into our bottles, and there is no name in the price to account for. That is not an argument that ours are better than something famous - I have no way to audit anybody else's bottle and I am not going to pretend otherwise. It is an answer to the question you actually asked, which was about where the money goes.
My recommendation is Adaa at ₹379 for 3ml, the sample size because we sell no sampler. If what you really want is to see raw-material cost with your own nose, Nawaab at ₹399 is the most expensive of the four for us to fill, and it carries oud, aged tobacco and leather, so refuse it freely. The Pack of 3 is not a sampler and contains no Adaa. Adaa carries jasmine sambac, wears 6-8 hours is our only published figure, I make no outcome claim and no claim at all about skin, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Frequently asked questions
Which attar smells sophisticated without needing designer branding?
SOSA Adaa, the 3ml at Rs 379. All four SOSA attars are the house's own compositions, so nothing in the bottle was licensed and no third-party name sits inside the price: what you pay for is the materials, the blending, the bottle and the shipping. Adaa is bergamot, green cardamom, neroli, jasmine sambac and white musk, alcohol-free with no DPG carriers, hand-blended in Pune, and it wears 6-8 hours. The jasmine sambac is disclosed.
Are SOSA's attars really SOSA's own compositions?
Yes. All four - Adaa, Ameeri, Mastani and Nawaab - were composed by this house, by an ISIPCA Versailles-trained perfumer, and are hand-blended in Pune. Nothing was licensed and nothing arrived as a finished formula to be bottled. SOSA is independent and the attars are made in India. That is a fact about how the products came to exist rather than a claim about how they smell, and whether you like the smell is still entirely yours to decide.
Does a fragrance without a famous name on it smell less expensive?
I have no honest way to answer that, so I will not. How a fragrance reads to other people is an outcome, and SOSA publishes no outcome claim for a fragrance because there is no honest way to measure one. What can be checked before you buy is the carrier, the note list, who composed it and whether a wear figure exists. On the SOSA attars all four of those are published, and 6-8 hours is the only wear figure the house states for anything it sells.
If material cost matters to me, which attar should I look at?
Nawaab, at Rs 399 for 3ml. It is the most expensive attar in the line to fill, because white royal oud, Mysore sandalwood and Kashmir saffron are expensive materials, and it carries no synthetic oudh. Note that it is twenty rupees more than Adaa, which is far less than the difference in what goes into it. It is also the heaviest thing SOSA makes for skin, with aged tobacco and leather in it, so it is wrong for anyone who will not wear those.
Should I buy the Pack of 3 for a broader taste of the range?
Not as a first purchase. The Pack of 3 at Rs 1,055 is Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani at full size, not a sampler, which makes it the three heaviest attars SOSA makes, and it does not include Adaa at all. SOSA sells no attar sampler and no discovery set, so the 3ml at Rs 379 to Rs 399 is the sample size. Buy one, wear it a full day and judge the drydown rather than the opening.
And a published material claim, not an adjective: No synthetic rose in Ameeri, and real jasmine sambac and real rose absolute in Mastani. Statements about what was bought, not about what it will do.
SOSA — Attars and Perfume Oilsfor a reader who has stopped paying for a name on a box
SOSA Adaa (₹379 for 3ml, ₹669 for 6ml, ₹1,149 for 12ml) is bergamot, green cardamom, neroli, jasmine sambac and white musk - this house's own composition, written by an ISIPCA Versailles-trained perfumer and hand-blended in Pune, alcohol-free with no DPG carriers on a skin-safe jojoba and sandalwood base, and it wears 6-8 hours, which is the only longevity figure SOSA publishes. Nawaab at ₹399 is the most expensive of the four to fill, with no synthetic oudh in it. No other house's product is named, priced or compared anywhere on this page. Free shipping above ₹499, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. The products named are SOSA's own; the method - shop the note you have ruled out, not the note you hope for - applies to any brand.
Facts verified 17 September 2026 against the live SOSA product pages: SOSA makes four attars, each sold in three sizes, 3ml, 6ml and 12ml. SOSA Adaa is ₹379, ₹669 and ₹1,149, with published notes of bergamot, green cardamom, neroli, jasmine sambac and white musk. SOSA Ameeri is ₹385, ₹679 and ₹1,165, with published notes of Taif rose, Indian sandalwood, Persian saffron and soft oudh. SOSA Mastani is ₹389, ₹685 and ₹1,179, with published notes of night-blooming jasmine, Damask rose, Mysore sandalwood, oudh, vanilla and tonka. SOSA Nawaab is ₹399, ₹699 and ₹1,199, with published notes of white royal oud, Mysore sandalwood, Kashmir saffron, aged tobacco, leather and amber. All four are alcohol-free perfume oils with no DPG carriers, on a skin-safe jojoba and sandalwood base, composed by an ISIPCA Versailles-trained perfumer and hand-blended in Pune, and the only longevity figure SOSA publishes for them is that they wear 6-8 hours. The Pack of 3 (₹1,055, ₹1,859 and ₹3,189) is Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani, and it does not include Adaa. The SOSA perfume line - including Khayaal and Samundar - comes in 10ml, 50ml and 100ml and is referred to on these pages by its SOSA name and its accord only. SOSA publishes no note list and no longevity figure for the solid body perfumes or for the perfume line, so neither is given here, and how a solid body perfume smells is never described. SOSA sells no attar sampler and no discovery set, which is why the 3ml is the sample size and is what these pages recommend buying first. Free shipping above ₹499 is the only logistics fact stated on these pages. Choosing a fragrance is a matter of preference: SOSA makes no health, skin-safety, hypoallergenic, therapeutic or wellbeing claim for any fragrance, makes no claim about compliments, confidence or any other outcome of wearing one, and offers nothing here as medical advice - a reaction on skin is a conversation for a doctor rather than for a perfumer. Prices and availability are subject to change - see the live product pages.
