In the living room, place the diffuser on a central console table or a side table with open air around it - not tucked behind the sofa, where the scent gets trapped. Because living rooms are big, this is where a larger unit earns its keep: the 6-litre Megh has the mist output and runtime to fill the space, and a little airflow helps it reach every seat. I am Sonal Sahani, an ISIPCA-trained perfumer, and here is how to place it.
Quick answers — read this first
Where to place it? On a central console or side table with open air around it, roughly in the room's middle - not behind the sofa.

Why not behind the sofa? A big piece of furniture boxes the mist in on one side, so half the room never gets the scent.

Best unit? The 6-litre Megh - the reach and runtime a large living room needs; a small unit cannot fill it.
The short answer
Where: central console or side table, open air around it.
Avoid: behind the sofa or in a deep corner - the scent gets trapped.
Best unit: Megh (6L) for a big room; up to 100 hrs, ~35 dB.
Airflow: a fan on low or open doorway helps mist reach every seat.

Illustrative only. Match tank and runtime to the room: Boond for a desk, Sukoon for a bedroom, Megh for a living room or dry winter air.
Straight answer
Where should I place a diffuser in the living room?
Put it on a central console table or a side table that has open air around it, roughly in the middle of the room, so the mist can travel toward every seat. Avoid tucking it behind the sofa or into a deep corner, where a large piece of furniture boxes the scent in and half the room never smells it. Living rooms are big, so choose a unit that can actually fill the space - the 6-litre Megh has the mist output, the adjustable dial and the runtime for it. A little air movement, from a ceiling fan on low or an open doorway, helps the scent reach the far corners.
One line: central console or side table, open air around it, not behind the sofa - the 6L Megh has the reach.
The Megh holds 6 litres, runs up to 100 hours and stays around 35 dB.

Placing it in a big room

The living room is the hardest room to scent well, simply because it is the biggest and the most broken up - sofas, a coffee table, a TV unit, maybe a dining nook. Fragrance has to travel further and around more obstacles, so placement carries more weight here than anywhere else in the home.

Central placement: positioning the diffuser toward the open middle of a room rather than a wall or corner, so the mist can disperse outward in every direction. In a large, furniture-heavy living room it is the difference between scenting the whole space and scenting one armchair.

A console table against the middle of a wall, a side table between two seating groups, or a shelf on an open sightline all work well - anywhere the mist has room to rise and drift outward. What does not work is behind the sofa, in a deep alcove, or crammed against a bookshelf, where the scent is trapped on two or three sides and the far half of the room stays bare.

In a large room, airflow does the heavy lifting. A ceiling fan on its lowest speed, or simply an open doorway to the hall, keeps the scented air circulating so it reaches the far corners instead of hanging around the diffuser.

Keep the practicalities in mind: a socket within reach, a level and stable surface, and clearance from bare wood and electronics like the TV. Fill with filtered water - never hot - and a few drops of SOSA water-based fragrance.

Why the Megh suits the living room

A small diffuser in a large living room is a common, disappointing mistake - it hums away and scents a metre of air. The Megh is built for the opposite outcome.

Feature Why it suits a big room
6-litre tank Runs for days between fills; no constant topping up
Up to 100 hours Fill it once and it lasts through a week of evenings
Adjustable mist dial Turn it up for a large, open space or down for a cosy one
~35 dB, quiet Soft enough to sit beside during a film or conversation

Myth: "Two small diffusers equal one big one." Two small units mean two tanks to fill, two cables and two pockets of scent. One 6-litre Megh, placed centrally, fills the room more evenly and far more simply.

Double duty in dry weather. Living rooms under constant AC or winter heating go bone-dry. The Megh works as a large-room humidifier as well as an aroma diffuser, so it earns its place beyond the scent alone.

A living room wants reach, not just scent - a central spot and a unit big enough to fill it.

Run a soft, gracious fragrance like Quiet Luxury or Warm Welcome, and the living room takes on that hushed, five-star-lobby calm. As always, SOSA water-based fragrance only, so the plate stays clean.

The SOSA range

SOSA makes three cool-mist ultrasonic diffusers for different rooms, each arriving with three of our water-based Hotel Collection fragrances so you can scent from day one. Prices and headline specs below are live from the SOSA store. Whichever you choose, use only the SOSA water-based fragrance - raw essential or carrier oils can clog the misting plate.

A note from Sonal

I trained as a perfumer at ISIPCA in Versailles, but half the questions we get are not about scent at all - they are about the machine. Indian rooms are bone-dry from AC and winter, and most gadget diffusers are too small, too loud, or quit by midnight. So we made three: Boond (300ml, desk), Sukoon (500ml, bedroom, with a remote and mood light) and Megh (6L, whole-room), each shipping with three of our fragrances.

They are cool-mist ultrasonic diffusers - an ultrasonic plate turns water into a fine, cool mist with no heating element, so there is no boiling water or burn risk, and each has an auto shut-off when the tank runs dry.

One thing I say on every listing and will say here: use only SOSA's water-based Hotel Collection fragrance. Raw essential oils, perfumes and carrier oils are thick or solvent-heavy and can clog the misting plate and damage the unit. A few drops of our water-based fragrance in the tank mists cleanly and scents the whole room.

Frequently asked questions

Where should I place a diffuser in the living room?
On a central console or side table with open air around it, roughly in the middle of the room, so the mist can travel to every seat. Avoid tucking it behind the sofa or into a corner where the scent gets trapped.
Why is behind the sofa a bad spot?
A large piece of furniture boxes the mist in on one side, so it never crosses the room. The scent pools behind the sofa while the rest of the living room stays bare.
Which SOSA diffuser is best for a living room?
The 6-litre Megh. It has the mist output, an adjustable dial and the runtime - up to 100 hours - to fill a large, open room that a small desk unit simply cannot reach.
Does the living room need airflow to spread scent?
It helps a lot. A ceiling fan on low or an open doorway keeps the scented air circulating to the far corners, rather than letting it hang around the diffuser in a big room.
Can the Megh also help with dry air from the AC?
Yes. With its 6-litre tank it doubles as a large-room humidifier, so it adds moisture to AC-dry or winter air while it scents the room. Use only SOSA's water-based fragrance in it.
