There is no right spot in an open-plan studio - there is a list of exclusions, and whatever survives them. Usually that leaves one or two positions. Sometimes it leaves none, and that is the most useful answer this page can give you.
Quick answers — read this first
Where should a scent machine be installed in an open-plan detailing studio? Apply the exclusions first: not near the shutter, not in line with an extract or return, not under a supply grille, not in the dead upper layer, not on the vehicle route, not enclosed in joinery, not within two metres of a seat. What survives is usually the customer circulation at seven to eight feet.
What if nothing survives the exclusions? Then the finding is that you need a boundary rather than a better position. An open-plan studio with no viable location is telling you the customer zone is not a room yet, and a partition does more than any placement.
Why not simply mount it high? Because a tall building has a dead upper layer nobody occupies, and under a hot roof that layer is also the one leaving. Above head height and out of reach is the requirement - roughly seven to eight feet, not twelve.
The short answer
Short answer: it is a list of exclusions rather than a spot - and what survives is usually the customer circulation at seven to eight feet, or nothing at all, which means you need a boundary.
The pick: one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) at seven to eight feet in the customer circulation, away from the shutter, extracts, returns and supply grilles - or a partition first, if nothing survives.
Next step: mark the exclusions on your floor plan and see what is left. That drawing is the answer. Or ask for a studio scenting plan.
Where should a scent machine be installed in an open-plan detailing studio?
There is no single right position in an open-plan studio, and looking for one is why this question is hard to answer usefully. What there is instead is a list of exclusions. Mark them on your floor plan, and whatever is left is your answer - which in most studios is one or two positions, and occasionally none at all. THE EXCLUSIONS.Not near the shutter. Anything within a few metres of it is in the zone that gets re-pressurised and flushed every time a vehicle moves, and that volume is effectively outdoors while the shutter is up. Not on the vehicle route. The path cars take through the building is re-pressurised constantly and never reaches a steady state. Not in line with an extract grille, an AC return, or a capture arm.An extract fan does not know which air it is pulling - a unit in that path is being removed continuously by something you paid for. Not directly under a supply grille, which strips it and disperses it before it does anything. Not in the dead upper layer. A tall building has several feet at the top that nobody occupies, and under a hot roof that layer is also the one leaving - so mounting high scents the part of the room no customer will ever stand in. Not enclosed in joinery. A unit in a closed cabinet has no air path and scents the cabinet, which is total failure rather than reduced performance. Not within about two metres of a seat, or the person sitting there is inside the pocket rather than in the room. And not anywhere it cannot be serviced - the refill door and the key-lock have to be reachable by whoever runs the studio. WHAT SURVIVES. Usually one thing: the customer zone's circulation path, at around seven to eight feet - above head height, out of casual reach, in moving but not draughty air, away from the boundary with the working side. That is the answer in most open-plan studios, and it is worth noting that it is a low mount by instinct's standards. If you have a choice of two such positions, take the one further from the shutter and closer to where people actually sit, and set the level from the furthest seat at the end of the longest wait. AND IF NOTHING SURVIVES. This happens, and it is the most useful thing this page can tell you. An open-plan studio where every position is excluded is not a placement problem. It is telling you the customer zone is not yet a room. The answer then is a partition and a door rather than a better location - which costs more than a machine, does more than a machine, and fixes the noise, the air and the temperature at the same time. The enclosed customer area is what you are scenting, and if you do not have one, building one is the purchase. Two further notes. The HVAC option. Where the customer zone has its own supply ductwork, mounting on the duct beats any wall position, because a supply grille delivers into the occupied zone regardless of what the ceiling or the shutter is doing - and the unit disappears from the room. The condition is that the run serves the customer side and not the bay. And do not solve placement with a second unit. One machine per air mass - two units in one open volume, each set from a guess, is how a studio ends up with a strong patch and a dead patch rather than an even room. Fragrance does not remove or reduce any chemical in the air. Register: Mountain Breeze at ₹849 or Morning Freshness at ₹749, on one SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999, waterless and key-locked. The working bay, the booth, the cure area, the interior station and the chemical store are never scented.SOSA makes no claim that fragrance affects reviews, referrals, ticket size or repeat business. It works alongside extraction, ventilation, cleaning and correct chemical storage, never instead of them. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Apply the exclusions - shutter, vehicle route, extracts, returns, supply grilles, the dead upper layer, enclosed joinery, within two metres of a seat, anywhere unserviceable - and what survives is usually the customer circulation at seven to eight feet. If nothing survives, you need a partition.
One SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 at seven to eight feet in the customer circulation - or on the customer-side supply duct, which beats any wall position when the ductwork allows it.

A connected reception, lounge and handover floor of ~1,500-3,000 sq ft
Waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³ - about 2,000-3,000 sq ft - on one unit. In an automotive studio the waterless part earns its place ahead of the reach: no mist, so nothing damp settles on fresh paint, glass, film or tooling. The key-lock holds the level the sofa chose against a well-meaning front desk, the 1h/4h/8h/24h timer keeps it on studio hours, and wall or HVAC mounting puts it on the right wall rather than the counter. 400ml tank, roughly 75-90 days depending on intensity and run hours, under 38dB.
Himalayan pine, sage and Indian cedar - the driest register SOSA makes and the automotive default, because it reads as clean workshop air rather than as a spa. Where the lounge is a single seating group, this bottle on the console at ₹849 for 50ml carries the studio's register on its own, three or four reeds in, flipped weekly; 130ml at ₹1,349 lasts 14-18 weeks. Alcohol-free, phthalate-free, six fibre reeds.
1000m³ coverage (about 2,000-3,000 sq ft) on a single unit, ₹11,999. No water and no mist, so nothing settles on paint, glass, film or tooling. Adjustable intensity, 400ml tank running roughly 75-90 days depending on intensity and run hours, Bluetooth app and onboard buttons, 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, key-lock, auto-stop, under 38dB, DC 12V/1A at 5W. Freestanding, wall or HVAC mount. CE, RoHS and SGS certified - electrical and compliance marks only. Made in India. Refill supply: confirm with SOSA.
Mark them on a floor plan. The drawing answers this faster than any amount of advice.
1
Air events
Not near the shutter, not on the vehicle route
Anything within a few metres of the shutter sits in the zone that gets re-pressurised and flushed with every vehicle movement, and that volume is effectively outdoors while the shutter is up. The path cars take through the building is re-pressurised constantly and never reaches a steady state.
Rule: the two places a machine is most often put, and both are wrong.
2
Air paths
Not in line with an extract, a return or a supply grille
An extract fan does not know which air it is pulling, so a unit in that path is being removed continuously by something you paid for. An AC return is feeding the plant rather than the room. And directly under a supply grille the output is stripped and dispersed before it does anything at all.
Rule: three different grilles, three different ways to waste the same product.
3
Height
Not in the dead upper layer - seven feet, not twelve
A tall building has several feet at the top that nobody occupies, and under a hot roof that layer is also the one leaving. Mounting high scents the part of the room no customer will ever stand in. Above head height and out of casual reach is the requirement, and that is a lower number than instinct suggests.
Test: everyone goes high in a tall room. It is the wrong direction here.
4
Proximity
Not enclosed, not within two metres of a seat, not unserviceable
A unit in a closed cabinet has no air path and scents the cabinet, which is total failure rather than reduced performance. Within two metres of a chair the person is inside the pocket rather than in the room. And the refill door and key-lock have to be reachable by whoever runs the studio.
Rule: the cabinet one is the most common and the most completely fatal.
5
If none
Nothing surviving is the most useful answer
An open-plan studio where every position is excluded is not a placement problem - it is telling you the customer zone is not yet a room. A partition and a door costs more than a machine, does more than a machine, and fixes noise, air and temperature at once. The bay is never scented.
Test: if nowhere works, build the room. That is the purchase.
The SOSA principle
An open-plan studio where every position is excluded is not a placement problem. It is telling you the customer zone is not a room yet.
A partition and a door costs more than a machine, does more than a machine, and fixes the noise, the air and the temperature at the same time.
The default register for an automotive studio: Mountain Breeze - Himalayan pine, sage and Indian cedar at ₹849. Dry, cool and faintly technical, which is what a car-care studio should smell of, on the lounge console or carried across a whole customer floor by the Vaayu.
What to rule out, what survives, and what nothing surviving means.

Placing a machine in an open-plan studio
The question
The answer
Is there a right spot?
There is a list of exclusions and whatever survives them. Mark them on a floor plan - most studios end up with one or two viable positions, and some with none.
What gets excluded?
Near the shutter, on the vehicle route, in line with an extract, return or supply grille, in the dead upper layer, enclosed in joinery, within two metres of a seat, or anywhere unserviceable.
What usually survives?
The customer zone's circulation path at around seven to eight feet - above head height, out of casual reach, in moving but not draughty air, away from the boundary with the working side.
What if nothing survives?
That is the most useful answer available: the customer zone is not yet a room. A partition and a door costs more than a machine and does more, fixing noise, air and temperature as well.
Is there a better option than a wall?
The duct, where the customer zone has its own supply ductwork - a grille delivers into the occupied zone regardless of ceiling or shutter, and the unit disappears from the room.
The open-plan question is in a semi-open centre, the height issue in high ceilings, and the one-or-many question in one machine or several. SOSA makes no claim that fragrance affects reviews, referrals, ticket size or repeat business.
One machine for the customer floor: SOSA Vaayu, ₹11,999 - waterless so nothing settles on paint, glass or film, wall or HVAC mounted on the far side of the customer zone from the bay door, key-locked at the level the furthest sofa allowed and timed to studio hours.
One register, the customer floor only, set from the furthest seat
SOSA Vaayu ₹11,999 waterless, key-locked and timed to studio hours; Mountain Breeze ₹849 or Morning Freshness ₹749 as the register. Send the floor plan with the bay door and the extraction runs marked and we will return it with the wall position.
Do not solve a placement problem with a second unit. Two machines in one open volume, each set from a guess, gives you a strong patch and a dead patch.

Sized to the floor
The customer zone gets one source; the working bay gets none
One register, delivered at whatever size the customer-facing zone is, with the rule that travels alongside each product. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
The SOSA detailing studio specification
What goes where in a premium detailing, PPF or ceramic-coating studio
A connected reception, lounge and handover floor of ~1,500-3,000 sq ft
Wall or HVAC mounted on the far side of the customer zone from the bay door; level set from the furthest seat late in the day, then key-locked; timer on studio hours
A SOSA Sukoon (₹1,899) is the water-based rung for a single enclosed lounge of roughly 270-320 sq ft in a dry room, and a Boond (₹899) for a small consultation corner; both run on the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance (from ₹299), which is not reed diffuser oil and is not interchangeable with it. Above about 3,000 sq ft of one connected volume the step is one SOSA Angaan (₹25,999) on the duct, not a second Vaayu. Fragrance does not remove, neutralise or reduce any chemical in the air. It is an ambience decision like lighting or seating, and it works alongside extraction, ventilation, cleaning and source control, never instead of them. Working bays, spray and cure areas and chemical stores are never scented, and a studio that smells of solvent has a ventilation problem to fix first. SOSA makes no claim that fragrance affects reviews, referrals, ticket size or repeat business. Ask for a studio scenting plan and send the floor plan with the bay doors marked.

A note from Sonal
There is no single right spot in an open-plan studio, and hunting for one is why this question never gets a useful answer. What there is, is a list of exclusions. Mark them on your floor plan and whatever is left is the answer.
Not near the shutter, and not on the route cars take - both get re-pressurised constantly. Not in line with an extract, a return or a supply grille, because an extract fan has no idea which air it is pulling and a supply grille strips it. Not up in the dead layer at the top of a tall building, which nobody occupies and which is on its way out through the roof anyway. Not enclosed in joinery, which is total failure rather than reduced performance. Not within a couple of metres of a chair. And not anywhere nobody can reach to refill it.
What usually survives is the customer circulation at about seven or eight feet - lower than people expect. And if nothing survives, that is the most useful thing I can tell you: your customer zone is not a room yet, and a partition with a door costs more than a machine, does more than a machine, and fixes the noise and the air at the same time. Do not solve it with a second unit either - two machines in one open volume just gives you a strong patch and a dead patch. Vaayu at ₹11,999. The bay, the booth and the chemical store are never scented.I make no claim that any of it affects reviews, referrals, ticket size or repeat business. It works alongside extraction, ventilation and cleaning, never instead of them. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Frequently asked questions
Where should a scent machine be installed in an open-plan detailing studio?
Apply the exclusions and take what survives. Not near the shutter or on the vehicle route, not in line with an extract, return or supply grille, not in the dead upper layer, not enclosed, not within two metres of a seat.
What position usually survives?
The customer zone's circulation path at around seven to eight feet - above head height, out of casual reach, in moving but not draughty air, and away from the boundary with the working side.
Why not mount it high in a tall building?
Because a tall building has several feet at the top that nobody occupies, and under a hot roof that layer is also the one leaving - so mounting high scents the part of the room no customer will ever stand in.
What if no position survives the exclusions?
That is the most useful answer available: the customer zone is not yet a room. A partition and a door costs more than a machine, does more than a machine, and fixes noise, air and temperature at the same time.
Should I add a second unit to cover the gaps?
No. One machine per air mass - two units in one open volume, each set from a guess, produces a strong patch and a dead patch rather than an even room.
One per studio, locked at its own level: SOSA Vaayu, ₹11,999 - 1000m³ on one unit, adjustable intensity, 1h/4h/8h/24h timer, key-lock and auto-stop, under 38dB, waterless with no residue on paint, glass, film or tooling.

About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Product recommendations reflect the SOSA range; the planning advice applies to any brand.
Facts verified 8 September 2026 against the live SOSA product pages: the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, described by the manufacturer as approximately 2,000-3,000 sq ft, with a 400ml refillable tank lasting roughly 75-90 days depending on intensity and run hours, Bluetooth app and onboard button control, 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, adjustable intensity, operation under 38dB, DC 12V/1A at 5W, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting, auto-stop and key-lock, and CE, RoHS and SGS certification - electrical and compliance marks, not any kind of safety or health approval. Being waterless it adds no moisture and leaves no residue on paint, glass, film or equipment; refill supply should be confirmed with SOSA. The SOSA Angaan (₹25,999) is an HVAC nebulising diffuser rated to 3,000m³, roughly 8,000-10,000 sq ft, with an 800ml reservoir, metal body, programmable schedules and operation under 42dB. The SOSA Sukoon (₹1,899) is a 500ml water-based ultrasonic diffuser for a single room of roughly 270-320 sq ft, and the SOSA Boond (₹899) is its compact equivalent; both use the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance (15ml from ₹299, 100ml ₹999, 300ml ₹1,799), which is made for ultrasonic diffusers and is not reed diffuser oil. SOSA reed diffusers - Morning Freshness (₹749 / ₹1,249) and Mountain Breeze (₹849 / ₹1,349), or the two together as the Fresh & Grounded duo (₹1,548 / ₹2,548) - are alcohol-free and phthalate-free, with a 50ml bottle lasting 6-8 weeks and a 130ml bottle 14-18 weeks; 300ml and 500ml refills are ₹2,399 and ₹3,499. For the vehicle itself, the SOSA Safar (₹3,999) is a cordless rechargeable waterless car and travel diffuser, 20ml, cold diffusion with no water and no heat, up to 10 hours continuous or 30 hours intermittent per charge, three speeds and a 1/2/3-hour auto-off timer; SOSA hanging and spray car perfumes are ₹449-₹549 for 12ml and ₹1,499 for a 50ml spray, and the Car Perfume Sprays Discovery Set is ₹699-₹799. Ambient fragrance is an interior and hospitality decision only. It does not remove, neutralise, oxidise or reduce solvent vapour, isocyanates, adhesive off-gassing, particulates or any other chemical in the air, and it does not purify air. SOSA makes no claim that it affects reviews, referrals, ticket size, retention or spend. It is never a substitute for local exhaust ventilation, general ventilation, cleaning, correct chemical storage or the personal protective equipment a studio's own safety assessment requires - a studio that smells of solvent has a source-control problem to fix first, and masking that smell removes a signal staff rely on. Working bays, spray booths, cure areas and chemical stores are left unscented. Where a customer or a member of staff is sensitive to fragrance the correct response is to reduce or switch off. The hotel-inspired scents are SOSA's own original interpretations; SOSA is an independent brand and is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, any hotel named for reference. Coverage, fragrance usage and running cost depend on the space, settings and hours of use, and are confirmed on a consultation. Prices and availability are subject to change - see the live product pages.
