Architects ask me this expecting a long answer about ducting. It is a short one. A scent machine needs a wall, a socket and a route for the air, and those three things are decided on the drawing whether or not anyone is thinking about fragrance. Plan for them at the design stage. Decide everything else - including whether to buy a machine at all - after the family has moved in.
Quick answers — read this first
When should an architect plan scenting for a new luxury home - design stage or after completion? The design stage, for three things only. A wall position at seating height in the open living-dining, on the path the AC indoor unit blows across the seating and away from the kitchen opening, inward of the foyer. A plain socket behind it - the SOSA Vaayu runs on DC 12V/1A at 5W from an ordinary adapter, so there is no special wiring. And an AC layout that moves air across the seating rather than up into a void or straight back into a return. Those cost nothing to draw and are awkward to add later.
What should wait until after completion? The register, the level and the decision itself. Which fragrance suits the finished palette, how low the level sits from the sofa, whether the open volume is large enough to justify a machine or a SOSA Sukoon at Rs 1,899 is the honest answer - none of that can be judged from a drawing, and all of it is set with the family present. Bedrooms need no planning at all: a reed at Rs 849 on a chest of drawers, a step down, with Evening Calm at Rs 799 as the bedroom exception.
Should the machine be connected to the HVAC? Only if the house has a ducted system with a duct that serves the living zone alone, and only with the HVAC contractor's agreement; a Vaayu can be HVAC-mounted, but a duct that also serves the bedrooms carries the living level into rooms that should be a step down. In most Bhopal homes on split units, a wall bracket on the AC's path is the better answer and needs nothing from the plant. Confirm mounting details with SOSA. No claim about what any of it does to what the client or a guest thinks of the house.
The short answer
Short answer: design stage, for the wall, the socket and the AC path - and after completion for everything else. Draw a wall position at seating height on the AC's path across the living seating, put a plain socket behind it, and lay the AC out so air moves across the seating rather than up into a void. The register, the level and whether a machine is needed at all wait for the family.
The pick: one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) wall- or HVAC-mounted on the position the drawing provided, if the open living-dining turns out to justify it; otherwise a SOSA Sukoon (₹1,899), which needs no planning; a Mountain Breeze reed (₹849) per bedroom, or Evening Calm (₹799) as the bedroom exception.
Next step: send the ground-floor plan with the AC indoor units, returns and the kitchen opening marked and we will mark the one wall that should carry a socket - ask for a Bhopal scenting plan.
When should an architect plan scenting for a new luxury home - at the design stage or after completion?
At the design stage, for three things, and after completion for everything else. The three things are the ones a drawing decides anyway and a finished house makes awkward. First, a wall. A scent machine for an open living-dining is placed at seating height on the wall the AC indoor unit blows across the seating, away from the kitchen opening and inward of the foyer so the entrance meets the fragrance first; on a drawing that is one position, marked in a minute, and in a finished house it is the difference between a machine that disappears on a bracket and one that sits on a console trailing a cable to the nearest point. Second, a socket. The SOSA Vaayu runs on DC 12V/1A at 5W from an ordinary adapter - roughly a phone charger's worth of power - so it needs nothing special, only a plain socket behind the wall position at the height of the bracket, which is a line on the electrical layout and nothing more. Third, the AC path. Fragrance travels with the air, so the indoor units and returns decide where it goes; a layout that blows across the seating carries the fragrance to the people, a return placed above the machine's position pulls it straight into the filter, and a double-height living room with high wall units sends everything into the void. None of this needs the architect to think about fragrance; it is the same layout logic that makes a room feel evenly cooled, and it simply means the one wall with the socket is on the supply side and not under a return. That is the whole of the design-stage work: a wall, a socket, an AC path, costing nothing to draw. Everything else waits, and it should. The register cannot be chosen from a drawing, because it is matched to the finished palette - dry woods against timber and stone, lemon-and-mint against white and glass - and to the family's own nose. The level cannot be set from a drawing, because it is set from the sofa with the AC running as it will normally run and the family present, at the lowest step that reads, then locked. And the decision itself waits, because whether the open living-dining is genuinely large enough to justify a machine, or whether a SOSA Sukoon at ₹1,899 set low is the honest answer, can only be judged in the built room; an architect who provides the socket has lost nothing if it is never used. The bedrooms need no planning of any kind - a Mountain Breeze reed at ₹849 on a chest of drawers, a step down from downstairs, or Evening Calm at ₹799 as the one exception in register - and the kitchen and bathrooms are never in the plan, so nothing is drawn for them except the chimney and the exhausts, which matter more than any fragrance. On HVAC: a Vaayu can be duct-mounted, but only on a duct that serves the living zone alone and only with the HVAC contractor's agreement, because a duct shared with the bedrooms carries the living level into rooms that should be a step down; in a home on split units, the wall bracket is the better answer. Mounting details are confirmed with SOSA. Fragrance in a home is an interiors decision like the lighting or the sofa: SOSA makes no claim that it changes what the client, any guest or any buyer thinks of the house or decides about it, no claim about mood, anxiety or wellbeing, and it is never a substitute for airing the rooms. The handover page is what happens when the house is finished, one Vaayu or zones is how the built volumes are counted, and the automation page covers the app and timers for a client who has asked about a smart-home package. Ask for a Bhopal scenting plan with the ground-floor plan and the AC layout, and we will mark the one wall that should carry a socket.
Design stage for three things: a wall at seating height on the AC's path across the living seating, a plain socket behind it (the Vaayu runs on DC 12V at 5W), and an AC layout that moves air across the sofa rather than into a void. The register, the level and whether to buy a machine at all wait for the family. Bedrooms need no planning - a reed each. No claim about what anyone thinks of the house.
One SOSA Vaayu - waterless, 1000m³, wall or HVAC mount, DC 12V at 5W - at ₹11,999 is what the socket on the drawing is for, if the built living-dining turns out to justify it. If it does not, a Sukoon set low needs nothing from the plan.
One machine that the drawing makes room for, and one that needs nothing from it. The images link to the product pages so every figure on the electrical layout can be checked.
Waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³ of connected air, Rs 11,999. Freestanding, wall-bracket or HVAC mount; DC 12V/1A at 5W from an ordinary adapter, so a plain socket at bracket height is the whole electrical provision; under 38dB, so it can sit in the living room; a 1h/4h/8h/24h timer and a key-lock set at handover; no water, so nothing settles on the finishes below it; 400ml tank running 90+ days a fill. Mounting details confirmed with SOSA.
500ml ultrasonic diffuser, Rs 1,899, 16-18 hours on low, for one closed room of roughly 270-320 sq ft - or set low in a smaller open living-dining where a Vaayu would be bought for coverage it does not need. It sits on a surface and plugs into any socket. Water-based, so it adds a little moisture; worth saying to a client with veneer and books. The socket on the drawing is not wasted if this is what the room ends up with.
1000m³ coverage (about 2,000-3,000 sq ft of connected air) on a single unit, Rs 11,999, adjustable intensity, 400ml tank running 90+ days a fill, Bluetooth app and 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, key-lock. DC 12V/1A at 5W. Freestanding, wall bracket or HVAC mount. CE, RoHS, SGS certified. Made in Pune, India.
Three provisions that belong on the drawing and cost nothing, and two decisions that belong to the finished house and the family in it. In that order.
1
Draw: the wall
Seating height, on the supply side, inward of the foyer, away from the kitchen
One position, four constraints. Seating height, because a source mounted high feeds the ceiling and a void rather than the people; in a double-height room this matters more than anything else on the page. The supply side of the AC, because the indoor unit's throw across the seating is what carries the fragrance to the sofa, and a position under a return sends it straight into the filter. Inward of the foyer, so the person arriving walks into the freshest edge of the living room's fragrance and the entrance gets its noticed moment without anything placed at the door. And away from the kitchen opening, because cooking is the strongest smell the house makes and a fragrance beside it becomes a third smell. Mark the wall with a small rectangle at bracket height on the interior elevation; that is the whole drawing.
Rule: if the position cannot satisfy all four, move the AC unit rather than the machine. The AC layout is the fragrance layout.
2
Draw: the socket
A plain socket at bracket height - DC 12V at 5W, no wiring of any kind
The Vaayu runs on DC 12V/1A at 5W from an ordinary mains adapter, which is to say on less power than most of the lamps in the room and from the same kind of socket. There is no special circuit, no low-voltage run, no conduit to the plant room. The electrical layout gains one socket, positioned behind the bracket so the adapter and cable are hidden by the machine itself, and that is the entire provision. It costs the price of a socket and is the one thing that is genuinely awkward to add after the plaster is on. If the family later decides on a Sukoon or nothing at all, the socket is a socket; nothing is lost. Put it on the drawing.
Rule: one socket at bracket height, hidden behind the machine. Draw it even if the client has not decided.
3
Draw: the AC path
Air across the seating, not into a void and not into a return
Fragrance goes where the air goes, so the AC layout is the fragrance layout whether the architect intends it or not. Three things to check on the mechanical drawing. That the living room's indoor unit throws across the seating rather than along a wall the sofa is not on. That no return is directly above the machine's wall. And, in a double-height living room, that the units are not so high that everything they move goes into the void - why reeds struggle under a void explains what that does to any source. On HVAC mounting: a Vaayu can be fitted to a duct, but only a duct serving the living zone alone, because a shared duct carries the living level into bedrooms that should be a step down; and only with the HVAC contractor's agreement, confirmed with SOSA. In a house on split units, the wall bracket is the better answer and asks nothing of the plant.
Rule: a duct that also serves the bedrooms is not a duct to scent. Wall-mount instead.
The Vaayu wall- or HVAC-mounts; on split units the bracket on the supply side is the answer.
Matched to the finished palette and set from the sofa - never from a drawing
Two things cannot be decided on paper and should not be. The register is matched to the finished materials - Mountain Breeze, pine, sage and cedar, against timber, stone and linen; Morning Freshness, lemon and mint, against white and glass - and to the family's own preference once they have smelt both in the room. The level is set from the sofa on the afternoon of handover, with the AC running as it will normally run and whoever spends the most time in the room sitting where they will sit, at the lowest step that still reads, and then locked. Both of these are handover work, and the handover page describes the page of the note they go on. An architect who tries to specify them from the drawing will specify them wrong, because a room's smell is decided by its surfaces and its people, neither of which exist yet.
Rule: provide for the machine on the drawing; choose the fragrance in the built room with the family present.
5
Leave: the decision itself
Whether the room needs a machine at all is judged in the built volume
The most honest thing an architect can do is provide the wall and the socket and then not assume. Whether the open living-dining is large enough to justify a machine - a genuinely connected 2,000-3,000 sq ft, or a double-height room where volume decides - or whether a Sukoon at ₹1,899 set low reaches the sofa and is the whole answer, is judged in the finished room and nowhere else. A drawing shows area; only the built room shows volume, doors as the family actually keeps them, and how the AC really moves the air. The bedrooms need no decision at all, because nothing bigger than a reed goes in one: a Mountain Breeze on a chest of drawers, or Evening Calm as the one exception in register for a home bedroom. When a machine makes sense is the page for the family to read before they decide.
Test: if the socket is never used, the drawing was still right. Provision is cheap; assumption is not.
A Sukoon set low may be the whole answer in the built room - the socket on the drawing loses nothing.
The drawing provides for a machine; the built room decides whether to use one. A wall, a socket and an AC path cost nothing at the design stage - the register, the level and the purchase itself belong to the family and the finished house.
Provide, do not assume. Bedrooms need nothing drawn at all.
What the socket is for: SOSA Vaayu, ₹11,999, waterless, DC 12V at 5W, wall or HVAC mount - fitted on the position the drawing chose, if the built room justifies it.
Here is what the design stage provides for each zone of a large Bhopal home, and what it deliberately leaves. Most zones need nothing drawn at all.
The SOSA plan
What the drawing provides for, zone by zone
The zone
What is drawn - and what waits
Open living-dining
Drawn: a wall position at seating height on the AC's supply side, inward of the foyer, away from the kitchen; a plain socket behind it. Waits: whether a Vaayu is fitted, its register and its level. View →
A double-height living room
Drawn: indoor units low enough that air moves across the seating and not into the void; the machine wall at seating height. Waits: everything else.
A closed family room or study
Nothing drawn. A Sukoon or a reed sits on a surface and uses any socket. View →
Each bedroom
Nothing drawn. A Mountain Breeze reed on a chest of drawers, a step down; Evening Calm as the bedroom exception. No duct ever serves a bedroom with the living level. View →
Kitchen and bathrooms
Drawn: the chimney and the exhausts, which decide whether the house smells of nothing wrong. No fragrance provision of any kind, ever.
The foyer and the threshold
Nothing drawn. The entrance gets its moment from the living source placed inward; nothing is placed at a door that exchanges air with the outside.
The pages either side of the drawing: the handover page is the register, the level and the note the household keeps; the villa guide counts the volumes a plan actually contains; and the developer version asks the same question of a sales gallery. Through all of them, SOSA makes no claim that fragrance changes what any client, guest or buyer thinks of a house or decides about it.
The bedroom provision, which is none: Mountain Breeze reed diffuser on a chest of drawers, ₹849 for 50ml, three reeds in, a step down from the living room - nothing to draw, nothing to wire.
A wall, a socket, an AC path - drawn now, decided later
SOSA Vaayu ₹11,999 wall- or HVAC-mounts on DC 12V at 5W. Send the ground-floor plan and the AC layout and we will mark the one wall that should carry a socket.
Draw the wall and the socket, and then refuse to decide. A drawing can provide for a machine; only the built room, with the family in it, can tell you whether the room wants one.

The SOSA design-stage specification
A wall, a socket and an AC path - provided on the drawing, decided in the built room
The open living-dining, on a wall position and socket drawn at the design stage
Waterless, 1000m³ of connected air; freestanding, wall bracket or HVAC mount; DC 12V/1A at 5W from a plain socket; timer, adjustable intensity, key-lock; under 38dB; 90+ days a fill
The drawing provides; the built room decides. HVAC mounting only on a duct serving the living zone alone and with the contractor's agreement; mounting details are confirmed with SOSA. The four 100ml bottles in the Vaayu box are the supply; confirm refill availability with SOSA before it is written into any handover. Fragrance in a home is an interiors decision like lighting or seating, with no claim about what the client, any guest or any buyer decides or thinks of the house, and no claim about mood, anxiety, sleep or wellbeing. It works alongside ventilation and cleaning, never instead of them. The kitchen and the bathrooms carry nothing and have no fragrance provision drawn; bedrooms are a step down.Ask for a Bhopal scenting plan and we will mark the wall on your plan honestly, including whether the built room is likely to need a machine at all.

A note from Sonal
Architects expect me to ask for ducting, a plant-room run, a control panel. I ask for a wall and a socket. The Vaayu is a small waterless machine that runs on twelve volts at five watts from an ordinary adapter, and the only thing a finished house makes hard is putting it where it belongs - at seating height, on the AC's supply side, inward of the foyer, away from the kitchen - with its cable hidden. That is three lines on the drawing. Draw them.
Then stop. I would rather an architect provided for a Vaayu and never used the socket than specified one from a plan and got the room wrong. The register is matched to finished materials nobody has seen yet. The level is set from the sofa with the family on it. And whether the room wants a machine at all - or a Sukoon set low, or a Mountain Breeze reed and nothing else - is judged in the built volume with the doors where the family keeps them.
Bedrooms need nothing drawn; a reed on a chest of drawers is the whole plan. The kitchen and bathrooms get a chimney and exhausts and no fragrance, ever. And fragrance is an interiors decision, like the lighting or the sofa: SOSA makes no claim that it changes what your client, a guest or a buyer thinks of the house, and no claim about mood or wellbeing. Made in Pune, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Frequently asked questions
What does an architect actually need to draw for a scent machine in a new home?
Three things. A wall position at seating height in the open living-dining, on the supply side of the AC indoor unit so its throw carries across the seating, inward of the foyer and away from the kitchen opening. A plain socket behind that position at bracket height - the SOSA Vaayu runs on DC 12V/1A at 5W from an ordinary adapter, so there is no special wiring. And an AC layout that moves air across the seating rather than into a void or straight back into a return.
Does a scent machine for a home need a dedicated electrical circuit or low-voltage wiring?
No. The SOSA Vaayu draws 5W at DC 12V through a mains adapter, less than most lamps in the room, from the same kind of socket. The electrical layout gains one ordinary socket positioned behind the wall bracket so the adapter and cable are hidden by the machine. If the family later chooses a Sukoon or nothing at all, the socket is simply a socket. Mounting details are confirmed with SOSA.
Should a new luxury home's scent machine be connected to the central air-conditioning?
Only if the house has a ducted system with a duct that serves the living zone alone, and only with the HVAC contractor's agreement. The Vaayu can be HVAC-mounted, but a duct that also serves the bedrooms carries the living level into rooms that should be a step down. Most Bhopal homes run on split units, and there a wall bracket on the supply side of the living-room unit is the better answer and asks nothing of the plant.
Can an architect choose the fragrance and its level from the drawings?
No, and it is better not to try. The register is matched to the finished materials - dry pine, sage and cedar against timber and stone, lemon-and-mint against white and glass - and to the family's own preference in the built room. The level is set from the sofa on the afternoon of handover with the AC running normally, at the lowest step that reads, then locked. Both belong to the handover, not the drawing.
If we provide the wall and socket, are we committing the client to buying a machine?
No. The drawing provides; the built room decides. Whether the open living-dining is genuinely large enough to justify a SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999, or whether a SOSA Sukoon at Rs 1,899 set low reaches the sofa and is the honest answer, can only be judged in the finished volume with the doors as the family keeps them. A socket that is never used cost the price of a socket. Bedrooms need no provision at all - a reed on a chest of drawers is the whole plan.
On the wall the drawing chose, on a plain socket, locked: SOSA Vaayu, ₹11,999, waterless, DC 12V at 5W, wall or HVAC mount - if the built room justifies it.
