You have done something that hurt someone, you have worked out that you were wrong, and now you want to put something in your hands so the conversation is less bare. That instinct is understandable and it is also worth examining, because the gift is doing none of the work you are hoping it will do. An apology is words. What you did, that you understand why it landed the way it did, what you will do differently, and no "but" anywhere in it. A gift can sit beside those words. It cannot replace them, and it cannot buy a result.
Quick answers — read this first
What kind of gift is appropriate? Something small, specific and easy to receive: a Morning Freshness reed diffuser at ₹749, an Adaa attar from ₹379, or a sandalwood car fragrance at ₹479 if they drive.

When should it be given? After the apology, not with it and not instead of it. The order matters more than the object.

What is not appropriate? Anything expensive enough to look like a payment, anything that needs setting up, and anything that arrives attached to a request to move on.
The short answer
Short answer: apologise properly first, in words, with nothing in your hands. If you then still want to give something, keep it small, specific to them and effortless to receive.
The safest shape: a reed diffuser at ₹749. No flame, no power, no water, no assembly, and it is for the room rather than aimed at them personally.
If you know them well: an Adaa attar from ₹379, bergamot, cardamom and jasmine sambac, or a car fragrance at ₹479 for someone who drives daily.
Straight answer
I hurt someone I care about. What kind of gift is actually appropriate alongside my apology?
1. Words first, object second. Apologise in person if you can, with nothing in your hands. A gift handed over before the conversation reads as a request to skip it, and people read that accurately.

2. Small, not large. A bigger number makes an apology gift worse. It looks like a price has been put on not discussing the thing, and it hands your discomfort to them to manage.

3. Specific to them. What your mistake called into question was whether you were paying attention. A car fragrance at ₹479 bought because they drive every day answers that. The most expensive thing on the site does not.

4. Nothing for them to do. A reed diffuser at ₹749 needs no flame, no power, no water and no assembly. It goes on a shelf and works.

5. No conditions attached. Do not pair it with a request, a timeline or a hint that the matter is now closed. The gift is given and then it is theirs, including what they decide it means.

If you are not sure the apology has landed yet, wait. Nothing here goes out of stock because you took a day. A portion of every purchase supports Nanhi Kali, India's largest girl-education initiative.
Short version: apologise in words first. Then, if you still want to, something small and specific: a reed diffuser at ₹749, an Adaa attar from ₹379, or a car fragrance at ₹479.
Morning Freshness Reed Diffuser
The lowest-imposition gift in the range
Morning Freshness Reed Diffuser ₹749 for 50ML, ₹1,249 for 130ML
Malabar lemon and mint, the most neutral of the five SOSA reeds. Alcohol-free and flame-free, with no power, no water and no assembly: six fibre reeds in a bottle, and that is the entire operation. 50ML runs 6 to 8 weeks, 130ML runs 14 to 18 weeks. It scents a room rather than a person, which matters when someone may not want a gesture aimed at them yet.

The order is the whole thing

Almost every question I get about apology gifts is really a question about sequence, even when it is phrased as a question about products. So let me answer the sequence first, because if you get that right the object matters far less than you think, and if you get it wrong no object will rescue it.

Apologise first, in words, with nothing in your hands. Say what you did. Say that you understand why it landed the way it did. Say what you will do differently. Leave the word "but" out of it entirely, because everything before a "but" is read as preamble. Then stop talking and let them respond, for as long as they want to respond, including by saying nothing.

The gift, if there is one, comes afterwards. The same object means two different things depending on when it arrives: given after the conversation it says "I was listening", and given before it says "let us not do the conversation." Nobody misses that difference.

1
Sequence
The gift follows the apology or it undermines it
A present produced at the start of a difficult conversation changes what the conversation is. It becomes an offer, and the other person is put in the position of accepting or refusing an offer instead of saying how they feel. That is not a small distortion, and it is entirely avoidable by leaving the bag in the other room.
Simple rule: if the apology has not happened yet, you are not shopping yet.
2
Proportion
Guilt inflates the number, and the number is read
People shopping after a mistake buy from guilt, and guilt pushes the price up. The trouble is that an expensive apology gift is read accurately and what it says is unflattering: it looks like a price has been put on not discussing the thing. It also leaves the recipient working out whether accepting it means the matter is closed, which is your discomfort transferred to them.
Test: if you cannot say in one plain sentence why a particular number is the right number, it is too high.
3
Evidence
Specific beats generous, every time
The thing your mistake called into question was whether you were paying attention. Only a specific gift answers that, because only a specific gift proves you know something about their life. A sandalwood car fragrance at ₹479 bought because they spend an hour a day in a car carries evidence. A large purchase chosen because it was the largest carries none.

What an appropriate gift actually looks like

Set price aside for a moment and think about shape. An appropriate apology gift is quiet, useful, unconditional and easy to receive. It does not demand admiration, it does not need to be assembled, and it does not put the recipient on the spot in front of anyone. Three things in the SOSA range fit that description well, and several things in it do not.

Sorted by how much it asks of them
Three shapes that work, and why
Gift What it asks of them Best when Price
Morning Freshness reed diffuser Nothing at all: no flame, power, water or assembly You want the safest shape, or the relationship is strained ₹749 to ₹1,249
Sandalwood car fragrance Nothing: it hangs or sprays and that is the whole of it They drive daily, so the gift is used without being thought about ₹479
Adaa attar A little: it is personal, and personal presumes closeness You know their taste and the apology has already happened ₹379 to ₹1,149

Why the price is the part people get wrong

I have watched this happen often enough to be confident about it. Someone arrives certain they need to spend a great deal, we talk for five minutes about what actually happened, and the right answer turns out to be a ₹749 reed or a ₹479 car fragrance bought for a reason they can say out loud. The budget was never the problem. The reason was.

The idea worth keeping
A bigger apology gift is not a better one. It is a louder one, and loudness is not what is wanted here.
Size the gift to the occasion and the relationship, never to how badly you feel.
The apology is the part that carries weight. The gift is allowed to be small.

The test that sorts the catalogue

Here is the single most practically useful idea in this whole subject. Someone who is upset has less patience than usual for anything that requires effort. Apply that one test and most of the decisions make themselves.

It rules out an ultrasonic diffuser, for example, however good a machine it is. It needs a plug point, it needs water, and it needs a fragrance bought separately: three jobs handed to someone who is not in the mood for jobs. It rules out a choose-your-own set, because choosing is work and this is the one occasion where the deciding should already have been done by you. And it rules out the most assertive scents in the range, because an apology gift should not be asking for admiration. Restraint is the register.

What it rules in: a reed diffuser at ₹749. Six fibre reeds, no flame, no power, no water, no decision, and it is for the room rather than aimed at them.

The SOSA apology edit

SOSA makes alcohol-free attars as roll-on oils, 15g solid body perfume balms, reed diffusers and car fragrance. There is no alcohol spray eau de parfum and no room spray in the range, so when a question says "perfume" the honest answer is one of those two personal formats.

The SOSA apology edit
Sorted by how little it asks of the person receiving it
Gift What it is Why it suits this occasion Price
Morning Freshness reed diffuser Malabar lemon and mint, 50ML or 130ML, six fibre reeds The lowest-imposition gift SOSA sells: no flame, power, water or setup, and for the room rather than the person ₹749 to ₹1,249
Sandalwood car fragrance 12ML alcohol-free, Spray for strong throw or Hanging for mild, same price Specific rather than generous: it is evidence you know they drive every day ₹479
Adaa attar Bergamot, cardamom and jasmine sambac, alcohol-free roll-on, 3ML to 12ML The lightest and least assertive oil in the range, for when you know their taste and have already apologised ₹379 to ₹1,149
Honest notes: a gift cannot obtain forgiveness, and nothing on this page is sold as though it could. The apology is the words you say; the gift is only a gesture that sits beside them, and the person receiving it decides what it means, including that it means very little. They are entitled to be upset for as long as they are upset. SOSA sells alcohol-free attars, 15g solid body perfume balms, reed diffusers and car fragrance; there is no alcohol spray eau de parfum and no room spray in the range. No delivery timeframe is published, so plan for the gift to follow the conversation rather than the other way round. A note from Sonal

People write to me at SOSA in a particular state: short sentences, no small talk, and a question about price that is really a question about whether they have ruined something. I have learned to ask one thing back before recommending anything. Have you apologised yet?

When the answer is no, the honest advice is to close the tab and go and do that, and it costs me a sale to say so. But a gift arriving before the conversation is a gift asking for the conversation to be skipped, and I would rather lose the order than sell somebody that.

When the answer is yes, the recommendation is almost always smaller than they expected. Something quiet, something they will use without thinking, something that does not need them to do anything on a day when they do not feel like doing anything. That is the whole brief, and either way, a portion of every purchase supports Nanhi Kali, India's largest girl-education initiative.

Frequently asked questions

What kind of gift is appropriate to give with an apology?
Something small, specific to the person, and easy to receive. A Morning Freshness reed diffuser at Rs 749 needs no flame, power, water or setup. A sandalwood car fragrance at Rs 479 is evidence you know they drive. An Adaa attar from Rs 379 works when you know their taste. What is not appropriate is anything expensive enough to look like a payment, anything they have to set up, and anything that arrives with a request attached.
Should I give the gift before or after I apologise?
Afterwards. Apologise first, in words, with nothing in your hands. The same object means two different things depending on when it arrives: given after the conversation it says you were listening, and given before it says you would rather not have the conversation. If you have not apologised yet, you are not shopping yet.
Does a more expensive apology gift work better?
No, and usually the opposite. Guilt inflates the number, and a large apology gift is read accurately: it looks like a price has been put on not discussing the thing. It also leaves the recipient deciding whether accepting it means the matter is closed, which is your discomfort handed to them. Size the gift to the occasion, never to how badly you feel.
Is a diffuser machine a good apology gift?
An ultrasonic diffuser is a poor choice here. It needs a plug point, it needs water, and it needs a fragrance bought separately, which is three jobs handed to someone who is not in the mood for jobs. A reed diffuser from Rs 749 does the same thing with none of the work: six fibre reeds in a bottle, no flame and no power.
Will a gift make the person forgive me?
No. A gift cannot obtain forgiveness, defuse how someone feels or end a disagreement, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something. The apology is the words. The gift is a gesture that sits beside them, and the person receiving it decides what it means, including that it means very little. They are entitled to be upset for as long as they are upset.
