Founder Diaries · Corporate & Office Diwali Gifting
By Sonal Sahani · ISIPCA Versailles 9 min read Updated September 2026
Mostly yes, and the reason is simple. A corporate gift is received twice. Once at home, where the employee opens it, and once in the office corridor, where they find out what everybody else got. Most gifting decisions are made with only the first of those in mind.
Quick answers — read this first
Should every employee get the same Diwali gift? Mostly yes. Employees compare what they receive, and a visibly different gift creates friction that outweighs the money saved. A uniform gift such as a hanging car perfume at ₹449 across the whole company is the simplest and usually the best answer.

Is it wrong to give managers a better Diwali gift? It is not wrong, but it should not be visible. Tier by budget band if you must, and keep the difference off display - different formats rather than obviously cheaper versions of the same thing, and no packaging that ranks people.

How do you tier Diwali gifts without causing friction? Use different categories at each tier rather than different sizes of one thing. A car perfume at ₹449 for the company and a reed diffuser at ₹799 for managers reads as different, not lesser. The same product in a smaller size reads as a demotion.
The short answer
Short answer: Mostly give everyone the same thing. Employees compare gifts, and a visibly cheaper gift costs more in friction than it saves in budget - if you tier, tier by category rather than by size, and keep it out of sight.
The pick: a SOSA fragrance gift - alcohol-free, useful past January, from ₹379 a head.
Bulk: send headcount, per-head budget and cities, and we will confirm what stock can actually fill.
Corporate Diwali gifting - at a glanceVolume - car perfumes & refills scale to hundreds of unitsProfessional - nothing worn on the body for a colleagueTiered - ₹379 to ₹3,999 across seniorityHonest - we flag what stock cannot fill
A corporate Diwali gift works when it is useful, appropriate to a professional relationship, and actually available in the quantity you need. SOSA's fragrance range runs from Rs 379 per head to Rs 3,999 for senior gifts, alcohol-free and handmade in India.
Straight answer
Should everybody in the company get the same Diwali gift?
Yes, in most companies, and here is the reasoning rather than the platitude.

The gift is received twice. The first time is private: somebody opens a box at home. The second time is public: they hear what the floor above got. You control the first moment completely and the second one not at all, which is why the second is where corporate gifting goes wrong.

A uniform gift is quiet. A hanging car perfume at ₹449 across an entire company is easy to hand over, easy to explain, and produces no second conversation. The same is true of an attar roll-on at ₹379 or a car spray set of three at ₹699 if the budget allows it.

If you must tier - and there are real reasons to, budget bands being the honest one - follow two rules.

Tier by category, not by size. A car perfume at ₹449 for the company and a reed diffuser at ₹799 for managers reads as two different gifts. A 3ML attar for the team and a 12ML of the same attar for managers reads as a ranking, because it is the same object with a number on it.

Keep the tier off display. No packaging that indicates a level, no separate handover, no list. If two people from different tiers put their gifts side by side, that should be an unremarkable moment.

The one case where different gifts are genuinely fine is where the difference is about use rather than value: a car fragrance for people who drive and a reed diffuser at a similar price for people who do not. Keep the values close and nobody reads anything into it. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
One line: give everybody the same thing unless there is a real reason not to, and if you tier, tier by category rather than size and keep the difference invisible.
For a whole team that commutes, the honest starting point is a hanging car perfume at ₹449 - useful, gift-ready, and stocked in the thousands. For managers, a reed diffuser from ₹749.
from ₹449

A corporate gift is received twice

Three considerations decide whether a uniform gift or a tiered one is right for your company.

1
Comparison
The gift is compared before it is used
Within a day of distribution everybody knows what everybody else received. That is not cynicism, it is just what happens in an office. A uniform gift removes the entire conversation. A Sandalwood car perfume at ₹479 for four hundred people is boring in exactly the way a corporate gift should be boring - nobody has anything to work out. The money you save by giving one group a cheaper version is usually smaller than the friction it produces.
Tip: If two employees comparing their gifts would produce an awkward pause, you have tiered wrongly.
2
Category over size
Different reads as different, smaller reads as lesser
This is the practical craft of tiering. Moving between formats at each tier keeps the comparison ambiguous in a useful way: car fragrance at ₹449, a reed diffuser at ₹799 for managers, the reed duo at ₹1,498 or SOSA Safar at ₹3,999 for leadership. Moving between sizes of the same thing does the opposite, because the difference is legible at a glance and has a number attached.
3
Use, not rank
Differences that come from how people live are fine
Nobody objects to receiving a different gift because they do not drive. They object to receiving a lesser one because of where they sit. So a split by circumstance - car fragrance at ₹489 for commuters, a reed diffuser at ₹749 for people who work from home - is comfortable, provided the values are close. The rule is that the reason for the difference should be about the employee's life, not their level.
Tip: Keep the per-head value within about twenty per cent across any split you make.
The SOSA principle
A corporate gift is opened at home and compared in the corridor.
Budget for the second moment, not just the first, and most of the tiering questions answer themselves.

How to run tiers without the tiers being visible

If you do decide to run tiers, here is a structure that holds together when people compare notes.

The SOSA gifting edit
A tiered programme where the tiers are not on display
Option Who it suits, and what it costs
Whole company A hanging car perfume at ₹449, or an attar roll-on at ₹379 for a tighter budget. One gift, one message, no comparison.
People who do not drive A 50ML reed diffuser at ₹749, or the Hotel Collection 100ML at ₹999 for anyone who owns an ultrasonic diffuser. Different, not lesser.
Managers A reed diffuser at ₹799, a car spray set of three from ₹699, or the attar trio at ₹1,055.
Leadership The reed duo at ₹1,498, or SOSA Safar at ₹3,999. Handed over separately and quietly, not at the general distribution.

If the reason you were considering tiers is that your team is very mixed, One gift, many preferences makes the case for solving that at the format level instead. If you want the whole decision from headcount through to despatch, Employee gifting guide runs through it end to end. The car fragrance range and the reed diffuser collection between them cover every tier described above.

The cheapest way to make a Diwali gift feel unfair is to make two of them and let people stand next to each other.

The SOSA corporate gift edit

Every SOSA gift is alcohol-free, long-lasting and ready to hand over, handmade in small batches in India. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Here is the edit by budget tier and by who the gift is for.

The SOSA corporate Diwali gift edit
Five tiers that cover a whole company - from a ₹379 attar to a ₹3,999 executive gift
Gift Best for Why it works at the office From
Attar roll-on 3ML Whole team · small budget Alcohol-free concentrated oil, four scents, gift-ready tin - the honest sub-₹400 option ₹379
Hanging car perfume Teams that commute · bulk Eight scents, thousands in stock, genuinely useful to anyone who drives ₹449
Car spray set of 3 Sales & field teams Three scents in one box - feels like a set, still under a thousand ₹699
Reed diffuser 50ML Managers · remote staff Flame-free, no plug, no water - works in a home office or a cabin ₹749
SOSA Safar Senior leadership Waterless car diffuser - the executive gift that is actually in stock ₹3,999

Two honest notes. Reed diffusers use their own alcohol-free reed oil; the Hotel Collection is a separate water-based fragrance for ultrasonic mist diffusers, and the two are not interchangeable. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own interpretations - SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

A note from Sonal

Most corporate Diwali gifts fail for the same reason: they are chosen to be defensible rather than useful. A box of sweets nobody eats, dry fruits that go into a cupboard. The gift is not really for the employee - it is for the person signing it off.

The test I would apply is simple. Will this still be in use in February? A car fragrance in the car of someone who drives to work every day passes that test. So does a reed diffuser in a home office. A body-worn perfume chosen for someone you do not know well does not, because fragrance worn on skin is personal - choosing it for a colleague is a comment on how they smell, and most people quietly do not wear it.

Two honest things I would rather say than sell past. If your budget is genuinely under Rs 350 a head, fragrance is the wrong category - buy something else and come back next year. And if you need three hundred of something we hold ninety of, we will tell you, because a Diwali gift that arrives in December is worse than no gift at all. A portion of every order supports girl-child education.

Frequently asked questions

Should every employee receive the same Diwali gift?
Mostly yes. Employees compare what they received within a day, and a visibly cheaper gift for one group creates friction worth more than the budget it saves. A uniform gift such as a hanging car perfume at ₹449 removes the conversation entirely.
Is it acceptable to give managers a more expensive Diwali gift?
It is acceptable, but it should not be legible. Tier by category rather than by size, so the difference reads as a different gift rather than a ranked one, and avoid packaging, lists or separate handovers that make the tier visible.
How do you tier Diwali gifts without upsetting anyone?
Change the format at each tier rather than the size of one product. A car perfume at ₹449 for the company, a reed diffuser at ₹799 for managers, SOSA Safar at ₹3,999 for leadership. A 3ML attar for staff and a 12ML of the same attar for managers does the opposite.
Can we give different gifts to people who drive and people who do not?
Yes, and this is the one difference nobody minds, because it is about how people live rather than where they sit. Keep the values close, roughly within twenty per cent, so the two gifts are comparable when people put them side by side.
What is the simplest gifting structure for a whole company?
One gift for everybody, ordered in a line with the stock depth to fill it. Car fragrance at ₹449 to ₹509 holds roughly 2,800 to 2,990 units per scent, so it can cover an entire workforce without splitting the order or the message.
