The instinct is right and I would go further than your question does. The godown is not a space we would scent at a lower level or with a different register. It is a space we would decline to scent at all, and once you see why, the whole plan changes shape: the interesting decision stops being the fragrance and becomes the door.
Quick answers — read this first
Should a distributor scent reception and meeting rooms but not the warehouse? Yes, and the second half is a rule rather than a preference. We do not scent warehouses, godowns, loading bays or any stock-holding area, and we would decline that work. The office side — reception, the corridor, the waiting area, the meeting rooms — is an ordinary office with an unusual visitor list and takes a signature the way any office does. What decides whether that signature works is not the fragrance. It is the door between the two halves and which way air moves through it.

Why not scent the godown at a low level? Three reasons, and none of them is about fragrance quality. First, a godown smells of something already — cardboard, jute, packaging, dust, forklift exhaust, whatever the stock itself gives off — and a register laid over that produces a space that smells of both. Second, a smell in a working stock area is information: something leaking, something hot, something damp. Nobody should have to pick that out of a background note. Third, the volume is enormous and largely uncontrolled, so anything you install is either pointless or absurd.

What stops the godown smell reaching reception? The door, not the diffuser. You want a physical boundary rather than a line on a layout drawing: a self-closing door, ideally a small lobby with two doors between the office and the stock, the office side held slightly positive and the godown side slightly negative so air moves from clean towards dirty and never back. Take the office fresh-air intake from the far side of the building rather than the loading side. Get that right and the smell stops arriving, which is a better result than covering it and costs less than most people expect.
The short answer
Short answer: Yes. Scent the office side only — reception, corridor, waiting area, meeting rooms — and leave the godown alone entirely. We would decline to scent a warehouse. The decision that matters is the door between them: self-closing, ideally a lobby, with the office slightly positive so air moves towards the stock and never back.
The pick: For the office side, SOSA Mountain Breeze at ₹849 under about 300 sq ft. Above roughly 1,500 sq ft of connected office volume, one SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999, wall mounted and key-locked.
Next step: Send us a rough layout showing where the office meets the godown and we will tell you whether the door or the fragrance comes first. Ask for a Raipur scenting plan.
The door decides it, not the diffuserThe godown is a source of smell, not a candidateA self-closing door, and better still a lobbyOffice slightly positive, stock side slightly negativeFresh air taken from the far side, not the loading bayOnly then does a register mean anything
If the only thing between your reception and the stock is a propped-open door, you do not yet have a boundary to scent up to.
Straight answer
Where exactly should a distributor's scented area stop, and why not the warehouse?
It should stop at a physical boundary, and the warehouse should be left alone entirely rather than treated more lightly. Let me take the second half first, because it is the half people expect me to soften and I will not. A godown is a source, not a candidate. It already smells of something: corrugated cardboard, jute, shrink wrap, dust off the floor, a forklift, damp at the base of a wall in the monsoon, and whatever the stock itself gives off — cement, chemicals, rubber, timber, oil. Lay a fragrance over that and you get a space that smells of both, which is worse than either and reads immediately as a cover-up. There is a second reason that has nothing to do with quality: in a stock area a smell is information. Something leaking, something scorching, water where it should not be. Nobody should have to separate a warning from a note that somebody chose for the room. And a third, simply practical: the volume of a godown is enormous, largely uncontrolled and opened to the outside several times an hour, so anything installed there is either invisible or ridiculous. We would decline the work. Now the useful half. Your scented area is the office side, and its edge is the last self-closing door before the stock. The right arrangement is a small lobby with two doors, the office held slightly positive and the godown side slightly negative, so that when either door opens air moves from the clean side towards the stock and never the other way. Take the office fresh-air intake from the far side of the building rather than from the loading face. Add a housekeeping rule about the door being kept shut rather than wedged, because every building like this has a wedge somewhere. Do all that and the godown stops arriving in your reception, which is the actual result you want. Only then choose a register: dry, woody, unsweet, held low, descending as you move inward from reception. If you would like us to look at the boundary rather than the bottle, ask us for a Raipur scenting plan.
Office side yes, godown no. The godown is a source of smell, not a candidate for one — so the decision worth making is about the door.
Where the office side alone reaches roughly 1,500 sq ft and more of connected volume, the machine is one SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999, wall or HVAC mounted on the office side of the boundary, intensity low, run window matched to office hours and the level key-locked.

What to actually buy, by volume

Everything below is for the office side of the door and nothing below is for the godown. Note also that most distributor receptions sit well under the volume a machine is built for, so a reed at ₹849 is very often the whole specification. If your door is currently wedged open, fix that this month and buy nothing.

Three things that decide it

Three things to settle, and the fragrance is the third.

1
First, why the godown is out
A stock area is a source of smell, and a smell there is information
I would rather state this as a rule than leave it as a matter of judgement, because owners sometimes ask for a token installation in the godown so that the whole premises match. The answer is no. A godown already smells of cardboard, jute, dust, wrap, a forklift and whatever the stock gives off, and a fragrance laid on top of that gives you both smells at once and the unmistakable impression that something is being covered. Separately, in any stock-holding area a smell carries information — a leak, damp, something hot — and it should reach the person who needs it without having to be picked out of a background note. The right answers there are housekeeping, extraction, floor cleaning and dry storage, none of which we sell.
Tip: If a godown smells worse than cardboard and dust, that is a maintenance finding, not a fragrance brief. Chase it to its source.
2
Second, the door and the pressure
A boundary on a drawing is not a boundary in the air
Every distributor building I am shown has one route the godown air takes into the office, and it is usually obvious once you look: a door held open with a brick because staff carry cartons through it forty times a day, a shared stairwell, a gap over a partition that stops short of the slab, or an air intake sitting on the loading face. The fix is physical. Make the door self-closing and take the wedge away. Better, give the office a small lobby with two doors. Hold the office slightly positive and the godown side slightly negative so air moves from clean towards stock whenever either door opens. Seal the gap above the partition. Move the intake to the far side of the building. Then the godown stops arriving, and a register on the office side is finally the only thing you can smell there.
SOSA Vaayu
A machine, where one is warranted, mounts on the office side of that boundary and nowhere else.

3
Third, the register and the gradient
One register for the office side, descending as you move inward
Choose a single register for the whole office side rather than one per room, and keep it dry and unsweet — Himalayan pine, sage and cedar is what I recommend most often for a distribution office, because it reads as considered rather than decorated and is not gendered. Then let the intensity descend: reception highest, meeting rooms lower, private cabins lower still, and nothing at all in the smallest or least ventilated rooms. Judge the level with the office full at its busiest hour rather than empty on a quiet morning, and remember that the people to set it for are the ones breathing it for nine hours, not the visitor passing the door. If your own staff say it is too much, it is too much.
The SOSA principle
The real competitor is the aerosol somebody discharges down the corridor two minutes before an important visitor arrives.
A low level held on a timer means the office never has that just-sprayed quality, and that argument claims nothing at all.
SOSA Mountain Breeze Reed Diffuser
The office-side register: Mountain Breeze — Himalayan pine, sage and cedar. Dry, unsweet and ungendered, held low. From ₹849.

Room by room

The premises set out room by room, with the line drawn where it actually belongs.

The SOSA plan
A distributor's premises, room by room
The space What we would do
SOSA Mountain Breeze Reed DiffuserReception and visitor corridor
Scented, at the highest level in the building, which is still low. One dry register, noticed on arrival and then forgotten.
Meeting rooms and cabins
Same register, lower. Nothing at all in the smallest or least ventilated room, and one room kept fragrance-free for anyone sensitive.
The door between office and godown
Self-closing, ideally a lobby with two doors, office slightly positive. This is the decision that makes everything else work.
Godown, loading bay, stock racks
Nothing. We would decline this work. Housekeeping, extraction, dry storage and floor cleaning are the right answers here.

The two-room version of this question, where the customer-facing space is effectively a showroom, is answered in experience centre versus godown, and the broader case for scenting a B2B office at all is in does this make sense for a B2B office. SOSA is an independent Indian brand; the hotel-inspired scents are our own original interpretations, and no company named anywhere on this site is a SOSA customer or partner.

SOSA Vaayu
Control, where it matters: Vaayu — run windows matched to office hours, adjustable intensity and a key-lock, so the level does not drift upward over a year. ₹11,999.
The door first, the register second
SOSA Vaayu ₹11,999 on the office side of a large floor — and nothing at all on the godown side

A godown is a source of smell, not a candidate for one. Once you accept that, the interesting decision is no longer the fragrance but the door.

To be explicit, because it is the point of the page: we do not scent godowns, warehouses, loading bays, stock racks, plant floors or technical areas, and we would decline that work if asked. There is also no SOSA refill product for the Vaayu at present, so plan the fill as part of the purchase rather than assuming a cartridge is waiting on the site. Coverage is volumetric, and a second unit belongs to a second volume of air — a separate office block or another floor — never to a second corner of the same room.

A note from Sonal

Owners sometimes ask me for a token installation in the godown so that the whole premises match, and I say no, which occasionally costs me the order. The reason is not squeamishness. A godown already smells of cardboard, jute, wrap, dust and whatever is racked in it, and a fragrance laid over that gives you both at once and looks exactly like what it is. The second reason matters more: in a stock area a smell is information, and nobody should have to find a leak underneath a note I chose.

What I would rather talk about in these buildings is the door. Every one of them has a route the godown air takes into the office, and it is usually a door held open with a brick because staff carry cartons through it all day. A self-closing door, a small lobby, the office held slightly positive, the intake moved off the loading face. I have told distributors to spend on that and nothing else that year, and it was the right advice both times.

Once the boundary is real, the register is a small decision. One dry, woody note on the office side, descending from reception inward, off at the end of the day. This is an ambience decision and not a claim that it changes what a dealer or a vendor does, and nothing therapeutic or medical is implied. It never masks a smell that has a source, which is the whole argument of this page. Your staff's judgement on the level outranks mine. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

Should a distributor scent reception and meeting rooms but keep the warehouse neutral?
Yes, and the warehouse half is a rule we keep rather than a preference. We do not scent godowns, warehouses, loading bays or stock areas and would decline that work. The office side takes a signature the way any office does. What decides whether it works is the door between the two halves and which way air moves through it, not the fragrance you choose.
Why not scent the godown at a very low level so everything matches?
Three reasons. A godown already smells of cardboard, jute, wrap, dust and its own stock, so a fragrance gives you both at once. A smell in a stock area is information about a leak or damp or something hot, and it should not have to be found underneath a chosen note. And the volume is enormous and opened to the outside constantly, so anything installed is either invisible or absurd.
Godown smells reach our reception. Should we use a stronger fragrance there?
No. That is a source problem and a stronger fragrance gives you a room that smells of both. Make the connecting door self-closing and take away the wedge, add a lobby with two doors if you can, hold the office slightly positive and the godown side slightly negative, seal any gap above a partition, and move the office air intake off the loading face.
Where exactly should the scented area stop?
At the last self-closing door before the stock, which is a physical boundary rather than a line on a layout drawing. The best version is a small lobby with two doors between office and godown. If the only thing between your reception and the racks is a propped-open door, you do not have a boundary yet, and a register will simply leak through it all day.
What should we buy for the office side?
Under about 300 sq ft, one reed at Rs 849 and nothing more. Reception plus a meeting room, the duo at Rs 1,548 so each room has its own register. From roughly 1,500 sq ft of connected office volume, a Vaayu at Rs 11,999 mounted on the office side, run window matched to office hours and the level key-locked. Size by the air on the office side only.
SOSA Morning Freshness Reed Diffuser

Facts verified 16 September 2026 against the live SOSA product pages: the SOSA Mountain Breeze reed diffuser (Himalayan pine, sage and cedar) is ₹849 in 50ml and ₹1,349 in 130ml. the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, described by the manufacturer as approximately 2,000-3,000 sq ft, with adjustable intensity, a 400ml refillable tank lasting up to about 75 days depending on intensity and run hours, Bluetooth app and onboard button control, 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, operation under 38dB, DC 12V/1A at 5W, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting, auto-stop and key-lock, and CE, RoHS and SGS certification. Being waterless, it adds no moisture and leaves no residue on surfaces or equipment. Ambient fragrance is an interior and brand decision only. SOSA makes no claim that scent influences a customer's decision, sales, enquiries, footfall, trust, credibility, referrals or any clinical or patient outcome, and no claim that any product removes, neutralises, eliminates or absorbs an odour, or that it cleans, purifies or disinfects air.
