Are candles, reeds and machines a price ladder? No. They are three different jobs - an evening, a room, and a whole building. A candle is not a cheap machine.
What if the home is ordinary-sized? Then there is nothing beyond a reed diffuser worth buying for it. More reed diffusers, or refills, is the honest upgrade.
“Beyond” does not mean more expensive. It means a different job
The word beyond is doing something misleading in this question, and unpicking it saves people from an expensive mismatch. Read as a price ladder, the category looks like this: candles are the cheap entry, reed diffusers are the middle, and a machine is the top. Read that way, somebody with a good candle and a nice reed diffuser concludes that the next step up is a machine, and buys one for a home that does not need it. But the three products are not versions of each other. They are answers to three different questions, and which one somebody needs has almost nothing to do with what they have spent so far. A candle scents an occasion. That is the actual job, and it is a good one. It is lit deliberately, it takes ten minutes to fill a room, it is enjoyed for an hour or two while somebody is sitting there, and then it is put out. The flame is half the point - the light matters as much as the smell, which is why a candle works in the evening and does nothing at eleven in the morning. It also means a candle is never a background: it is an event somebody chooses to have. Woodenwick candles are nine hundred and forty-nine rupees and five paise, and soy candle gift sets start at six hundred and ninety-nine, and the reason to buy one is that somebody enjoys the ritual of lighting it rather than that they want their house to smell of something at all times. A reed diffuser scents a room. Different job entirely: it is passive, continuous and unattended. Oil travels up porous reeds and evaporates into the air of the room, so it is working at three in the morning and at four in the afternoon whether anybody is thinking about it or not, and it lasts months rather than hours. There is nothing to switch on, nothing to watch, no flame and no electricity. Its limit is also physical rather than commercial: evaporation from a few reeds into still air has a small, fixed output, so it scents the area around itself and thins with distance. In a bedroom, a hallway, a study or a bathroom, that is precisely right. The five registers are Morning Freshness at seven hundred and forty-nine rupees for fifty millilitres and one thousand two hundred and forty-nine for one hundred and thirty; Garden Bloom and Evening Calm at seven hundred and ninety-nine and one thousand two hundred and ninety-nine; Mountain Breeze and Fresh Brew at eight hundred and forty-nine and one thousand three hundred and forty-nine. A machine scents a building. This is where the third job lives, and it is genuinely different from the other two rather than better than them. A waterless cold-air nebuliser uses pressurised air to break undiluted oil into a dry nano-mist light enough to travel with the air already moving through a house. Because distribution is active, the reach is an order of magnitude larger: the SOSA Vaayu at eleven thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine rupees states up to a thousand cubic metres, about two thousand to three thousand square feet. And because the job is a building rather than a room, the features are building features: a four hundred millilitre tank that runs for weeks rather than days, a Bluetooth app with one, four, eight and twenty-four hour run windows and day selection, adjustable intensity so the output matches the volume, under thirty-eight decibels of noise so it disappears, wall or HVAC mounting as well as freestanding, an auto-stop and a key-lock. It is waterless, which means no tank of water, no humidity added during a monsoon month, and no oily film near electronics. It ships with four one hundred millilitre hotel-inspired oils included, so it works the evening it is opened. Now the part that makes this page useful rather than promotional. The third job only exists in some homes. A villa, a penthouse, a large open-plan four or five bedroom flat, or a house with a double-height room genuinely has a building-sized volume of air in it, and in those homes no arrangement of room products produces what one machine does, which is a consistent strength everywhere rather than a series of scented zones. In an ordinary two or three bedroom flat there is no building-sized job to do. The rooms are rooms. And in that case the honest answer to what comes beyond a reed diffuser is: nothing, and you should buy more reed diffusers. The duo sets exist for exactly this - Day and Night pairing Morning Freshness with Evening Calm at one thousand four hundred and ninety-eight rupees for two fifty millilitre bottles, Fresh and Grounded at one thousand five hundred and forty-eight, Warmth and Bloom at one thousand five hundred and ninety-eight, and the larger sizes at two thousand four hundred and ninety-eight to two thousand five hundred and ninety-eight. Two rooms with different registers is a more interesting home than one room with a machine in it. Refills are the other honest upgrade and the one nobody buys for themselves: three hundred millilitres at two thousand three hundred and ninety-nine rupees, five hundred at three thousand four hundred and ninety-nine. Three warnings to close. Do not treat price as the ladder: above the Vaayu are two commercial HVAC units, the Angaan at twenty-five thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine rupees for roughly eight to ten thousand square feet and the Meenar at thirty-eight thousand five hundred for twelve to eighteen thousand, and both are for showrooms and hotel floors rather than houses. Do not mix the systems: nebuliser refills at one thousand and forty-nine or one thousand eight hundred and forty-nine rupees are for the Vaayu and Safar, reed diffusers use their own reed oil, and the water-based Hotel Collection from two hundred and ninety-nine rupees is for ultrasonic machines only. And in a brand-new home, none of the three does anything useful for the first few weeks, because paint, varnish and polish need open windows rather than fragrance. Fragrance is a finishing touch, never a fix.

Versailles
The Vaayu is the most expensive thing we make and we turn down more orders for it than for anything else in the range. Not because we do not want to sell it - because most homes do not need it. It covers up to a thousand cubic metres, roughly two to three thousand square feet, and that is a villa, a penthouse, a large open-plan flat or a house with a double-height room. An ordinary 2BHK is not that, and in an ordinary 2BHK a reed diffuser at seven hundred and forty-nine rupees does the job better than eleven thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine rupees of machine would. So the question we ask is never what somebody spent on their house. It is how many cubic metres of air are in it.
The second thing we say, and almost nobody expects it, is wait a few weeks. A brand-new home smells of paint, varnish, polish, cement and new wood, and those are not smells to cover - they need open windows and time, and they go on their own. Give the machine at the housewarming by all means, but tell them the scenting starts once the building has finished smelling of being built. It is the same rule we apply to a new car, for the same reason: adding fragrance to a smell that is fading anyway is how a good product gets blamed for a bad result.
Two honest limits. Reed diffusers do not fail in large homes, they simply do not reach - a diffuser on a console table scents the area around that console table, which is not a fault, it is physics, and several of them is a real alternative to one machine. And there are two machines above the Vaayu, the Angaan and the Meenar, which are HVAC units for showrooms and hotel floors rather than houses - so if a home is genuinely far beyond three thousand square feet, message us rather than assuming more money solves it.
