Two directions, and the honest framing first. There is no oud in the SOSA Hotel Collection and none anywhere in the SOSA range, so this is not a choice between oud and fresh — it is a choice between a warm, plush room and a clean, bright one, which is the choice people are actually making when they use the shorthand. Both are ₹299 to test. And by the end of this page I am going to suggest most oud wearers buy one of each.
Quick answers — read this first
First, the fact: no oud in the Hotel Collection and none anywhere in the SOSA range. Neither side of this comparison is agarwood.

Warm: the St. Regis-inspired Old-World Glamour — amber, violet, woods, ₹299.

Fresh: the Ritz-Carlton-inspired Quiet Luxury — white tea, bergamot, cedar, ₹299. Most oud wearers should own both.
The short answer
Short answer: fresh for the rooms you dress in and the daytime, warm for the sitting room after about eight in the evening. The Ritz-Carlton-inspired Quiet Luxury (white tea, bergamot, cedar) and the St. Regis-inspired Old-World Glamour (amber, violet, woods) are ₹299 each. There is no oud in the SOSA range, so neither of these is an oud fragrance or a substitute for one.
The decision rule: if you wear oud daily, if the room is small, or if you get dressed in it, choose fresh. If the room is large, shared, entered by guests and used in the evening, choose warm. Where the two rules disagree, the room you dress in wins, because that is where a heavy scent costs you most.
Shop: the Hotel Collection at ₹299 for 15ml, ₹999 for 100ml and ₹1,799 for 300ml at about ₹6 per millilitre. Both bottles together are ₹598. The Sukoon is ₹1,899 with three 15ml scents included, and the Boond is ₹899 for a second room. Free shipping above ₹499.
Straight answer
Should an oud wearer choose a warm oud-style home fragrance or a fresh one?
1. Neither option is oud, because there is no oud in the SOSA range. Not in the seven Hotel Collection scents, not in the alcohol-free reed diffusers. What people call oud-style here is the warm, resinous, plush direction — amber and polished wood — and it is a different thing rather than a stand-in.

2. Fresh wins the rooms you dress in. The Ritz-Carlton-inspired Quiet Luxury (white tea, bergamot, cedar, ₹299) puts light around a dense perfume instead of another layer of weight. If you wear oud daily, this is the side that should hold most of your house.

3. Warm wins the sitting room after eight. The St. Regis-inspired Old-World Glamour (amber, violet, polished woods, ₹299) is the one scent whose plushness is an advantage: large volume, moving air, guests, and a room you never get dressed in.

4. When the two rules disagree, the dressing room decides. Weight settles on fabric. A shirt that already carries agarwood does not need amber on it as well, and that single consideration outranks every aesthetic preference on this page.

5. Most oud wearers should own one of each — ₹598. One machine, rinsed between, dry or clean through the working day and plush from dusk. That is a complete house, and it costs less than a single decent candle.

A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
TL;DR: fresh where you dress and through the day, warm in the sitting room after eight. The Ritz-Carlton-inspired and the St. Regis-inspired at ₹299 each, ₹598 for both — and neither is oud, because there is no oud anywhere in the SOSA range.
The St. Regis-inspired · Old-World Glamour
The warm side of the argument
The St. Regis-inspired · Old-World Glamour ₹299 / 15ml
Powdery violet, warm amber and polished woods — the plushest and most evening-weighted of the seven, and the one an oud wearer usually means when they describe the atmosphere they are after. Warmth, lamplight, a room that has been dressed. It is not oud, it is not offered as a stand-in for oud, and there is no agarwood in the SOSA range at all. ₹299 for 15ml, ₹1,799 for 300ml at about ₹6 per millilitre.

What oud-style actually means here

The phrase gets used loosely, so let me be exact about it before anything is compared. When people search for an oud-style home fragrance they are not usually asking for agarwood — they are asking for the atmosphere they associate with it: warm, resinous, unhurried, lamplit, faintly grand. That is a mood rather than a material, and it is buyable. What is not buyable here is the material itself: there is no oud in the seven Hotel Collection scents and none anywhere else in the SOSA range. So this comparison is between a warm room and a clean one, and I would rather set it up honestly than let a word do work it cannot do.

1
THE PLAIN FACT
Neither side of this comparison is oud
The complete list is seven scents: white tea, bergamot and cedar; white tea, aloe and cedar; cedarwood, vetiver and green leaves; amber, violet and woods; jasmine, green tea and white tea; citrus, soft florals and sandalwood; citrus, pepper and amber. No agarwood in any of them, and none in SOSA's separate alcohol-free reed line either. The warm side of this page is amber, violet and polished wood, and that is exactly how I will describe it throughout — not as a version of oud, not as an alternative to oud, but as the plushest thing in a range that has no oud in it.
2
THE WARM CASE
Weight is an asset in a large room you do not dress in
The St. Regis-inspired Old-World Glamour at ₹299 is powdery violet, warm amber and polished woods, and there is one room where that plushness is genuinely the right answer: a large shared sitting room in the evening. The volume is biggest, the air moves constantly through opened doors, and heavier materials persist through that churn while light top notes leave with the draught. Most importantly, nobody gets dressed in it, so nothing is settling onto the clothes you are about to spray.
The permission, in one line: you may put something plush in the room you never dress in. Everywhere else, the argument runs the other way.
3
THE FRESH CASE
Light is what a dense perfume needs around it
The Ritz-Carlton-inspired Quiet Luxury at ₹299 — white tea and bergamot over clean cedar — does the opposite job and does it for the majority of your house. A dense fragrance does not need more density underneath it; it needs air made around it, and clean cedar with light above it is exactly that. This is also the side that suits somebody who wears oud every day rather than occasionally, because your textiles are already carrying a permanent low level of agarwood and everything you diffuse is arriving as a third layer. If you want it lighter still, the Westin-inspired White Tea Serenity at ₹299 is the least assertive thing in the range.

Head to head: the seven, split by side

Both sides of the argument with the whole range placed on one or the other, real note profiles included. The fourth column is what each does for somebody who will walk into the room wearing oud. None of the seven is oud; the warm side is amber and polished wood, the fresh side is white tea and cedar, and two of them belong to neither camp and are here so you know to skip them.

One of each, and one machine
The SOSA principle
It is not warm versus fresh. It is warm after eight, fresh everywhere else.
Two bottles at ₹299, one machine rinsed between them, and the house does two entirely different jobs without anybody having to choose a personality for it.

The decision rule — room, hour and what you wear

Room first, because it settles most cases on its own. Anywhere you get dressed goes fresh, without exception: bedroom, dressing room, the corner of a study where the wardrobe lives. Cool mist from a 2.4MHz plate settles on fabric, and a shirt already holding last week's attar does not need amber and violet on it as well. Small rooms go fresh too, because a closed box accumulates whatever you put into it. The large shared sitting room is the one clear case for warm — biggest volume, doors opening all evening, guests forming an impression in the first five seconds — and a hall or entrance can go either way depending on whether you want people to arrive into brightness or into something dressed.

Hour next, and this is the variable people neglect entirely. The same room can hold two answers. Run the fresh or the dry scent through the working day and switch to the St. Regis-inspired from about eight in the evening, and one machine gives you a house that behaves differently at different hours in the way a good hotel does. Rinse the tank between them — amber residue sitting under a white tea the following morning makes a third thing nobody chose — and use time rather than output to make the change. The Sukoon has steady, 2H and 4H timers with auto shut-off and covers 270–320 sq ft with 16–18 hours per 500ml fill on low; a second room is a Boond at ₹899 on the same bottles at the same three to six drops per tank.

And what you wear breaks the ties. If oud is your daily signature rather than an occasional pleasure, weight the whole house towards fresh and keep the warm bottle for one room and one hour. If your oud is sweet — rose, honey, saffron — go fresh more firmly still, because cream and amber beside a sweet oud is where rooms start to feel tiring. If your oud is dry and woody, the neutral middle option, the 1 Hotels-inspired at ₹299, is arguably the best single bottle in the range for you and can run all day without ever being the wrong answer. Whichever way it lands, buy 15ml at ₹299 rather than 300ml at ₹1,799: this page is a set of principles, and your own rooms are the only place they can be tested.

Warm belongs to the room you never dress in. Everywhere else, your perfume should be the heaviest thing present.

The SOSA edit

Both sides, in buying order, for somebody who wears oud. The first line is the one I would actually recommend to most people who have read this far — not one side or the other, but a bottle from each, which comes to ₹598 and settles the argument permanently.

Neither side is oud: the honest note No agarwood in the Hotel Collection and none anywhere in the SOSA range Said before you shop rather than after
Honest notes for buyers: the Hotel Collection is a water-based fragrance for ultrasonic diffusers only — it runs in the Sukoon, Boond and Megh, and it does not go in reed diffusers or in the waterless Vaayu and HVAC machines, which take their own undiluted oil. Reed diffusers are a separate alcohol-free line with their own scents. Use 3–6 drops per tank and rinse between scents so each stays true; never substitute raw essential or carrier oils, which clog the 2.4MHz misting plate. Where the Hotel Collection does not contain a note, this guide says so rather than stretching the nearest scent to cover it. White tea and bright bergamot over clean cedar. This is the scent I hand to people who love oud on their skin and want none of that density in their rooms — it reads as a well-kept building rather than as a fragrance, and it puts light around whatever you have sprayed instead of a second layer of weight. It is not oud and it is not a version of oud; there is no agarwood in it and none anywhere in the SOSA range. ₹299 for 15ml, ₹999 for 100ml.

A note from Sonal

I am asked to pick a side more often than I am asked anything else, and I have never been able to. The warm one and the clean one are answers to different questions — one is about how a room receives people, the other is about how a room treats the person already wearing something. An oud wearer needs both, because their house has both kinds of room in it.

What I will not do is let the word oud sit on either of them. There is no agarwood in anything I make. The warm scent is amber, powdery violet and polished woods, composed for the hour when the lamps go on, and the clean one is white tea and bergamot over cedar, composed to make space rather than fill it. Buy them both at 15ml for ₹598, run one by day and one after eight, and you will have arranged your house the way a good hotel arranges a building — with a setting that changes and a guest who brings their own perfume to it.

Everything is composed and made in India, and a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. You get a home that smells like somewhere you chose; a girl gets a classroom. That equation has always felt right to me.

Frequently asked questions

Does SOSA sell an oud-style home fragrance?
No, and the phrase needs unpicking. There is no oud in any of the seven Hotel Collection scents and none anywhere else in the SOSA range. What people mean by oud-style is the warm, plush direction, and in this range that is the St. Regis-inspired Old-World Glamour — amber, violet and polished woods, ₹299 — which is a different thing rather than a substitute.
Should I choose a warm or a fresh home fragrance if I wear oud?
Fresh for the rooms you dress in, for small rooms and for daytime; warm for a large shared sitting room in the evening. If the two rules conflict, the dressing room decides, because cool mist settles on fabric and your clothes already carry your perfume.
Can I run both a warm and a fresh scent in one diffuser?
Yes, one at a time. Rinse the tank between them so the previous scent is not sitting under the next, then use three to six drops of the new one. Many people run the fresh scent through the working day and switch to the plush one after about eight in the evening.
Which is better for a small flat?
Fresh, almost always. A small closed room accumulates whatever you put into it across an evening, and amber and violet are the two materials in this range most likely to still be present in the morning. Three drops of the Ritz-Carlton-inspired at ₹299 is the sensible starting point.
How much does it cost to try both sides?
₹598 — one 15ml bottle of each at ₹299. If you do not own an ultrasonic diffuser, the Sukoon at ₹1,899 includes three 15ml scents of your choice, which covers both sides of this comparison and one spare for the price of the machine. Free shipping above ₹499.
