Two floors sounds like a reason to buy a machine and it is not, on its own, a reason for anything. What decides this is how many closed doors stand between the front door and the top of the stairs, because one of these two products is rated for a connected body of air and the other is rated, in effect, for being nearby. Neither is the better product. They answer different questions, and a duplex can be either question depending on a detail nobody thinks to describe when they ask.
The answer whenever the duplex is really a set of rooms. SOSA reed diffusers, ₹749 to ₹849 in 50 ml and ₹1,249 to ₹1,349 in 130 ml, about 6 to 10 weeks a bottle, passive, nothing to plug in and nothing to switch off, working whether or not anybody is in the building. Duo sets ₹1,498 to ₹2,598 in three published pairings, none composed to order.
Quick answers — read this first
When does one machine beat several reed diffusers in a duplex? When the common areas are genuinely one connected body of air - an open stair with no door at either end, living running into dining, a gallery above. SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 is published for up to 1000 m3, about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft of connected air. Where doors close the stairwell off, several bottles is the accurate answer.
When are several bottles the better gift? When the common areas are really three or four rooms, and when nobody is going to operate anything. SOSA reed diffusers are ₹749 to ₹849 in 50 ml and ₹1,249 to ₹1,349 in 130 ml, run about 6 to 10 weeks, and work whether or not anybody is in the building. That last point matters more than it sounds.
What does the machine do that bottles cannot? It emits into the volume rather than near itself, and it is told in advance when to do it - run windows of 1, 4, 8 or 24 hours, chosen days, adjustable intensity, from a Bluetooth app or the buttons on the unit, at under 38 dB. It also comes in the box with four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances of 100 ml each.
The short answer
Short answer: A machine wins when the two floors are one connected body of air, which is a question about the staircase and not about the square footage. SOSA Vaayu is Rs 11,999 for up to about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft of connected volume. Where doors close, several SOSA reed diffusers from Rs 749 is the accurate answer.
Why: One is rated for a connected volume and scheduled from an app at under 38 dB; the other is passive, needs nothing operated, and is correct wherever a door closes.
A gift cannot change how somebody's week went, and a page that suggests otherwise is not worth reading. What a small parcel does is tell a person you were thinking about them on a day when nothing made you - which is a real thing to say, and worth saying. Keep it small, because a large one asks somebody already short of energy to produce a reaction, and send the words separately, because the object cannot carry them.
When does one machine actually beat several reed diffusers in a duplex where I want fragrance through all the common areas?
When the common areas are one body of air rather than a list of rooms. That is the entire test, and it is answered by walking the stairs rather than by adding up floor plans. The two products work by different mechanisms. A reed diffuser evaporates passively into the air immediately around the bottle; it needs nothing switched on and it runs whether or not anybody is in the building, which makes it the honest answer for rooms with doors and for a recipient who will never operate a machine. SOSA reed diffusers are ₹749 to ₹849 in 50 ml and ₹1,249 to ₹1,349 in 130 ml, about 6 to 10 weeks a bottle, with duo sets from ₹1,498 in three published pairings, none composed to order. SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 emits into the volume itself and is scheduled in advance: waterless cold-air diffusion producing a dry, residue-free mist with no water and no heat, published for up to 1000 m3, stated as about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft, with a 400ml refillable tank, Bluetooth app plus onboard buttons, 1, 4, 8 or 24-hour run windows, day scheduling, adjustable intensity, under 38 dB, DC 12V / 1A at 5W, 165 x 80.5 x 215 mm at 0.9 kg, black or white, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounted, CE, RoHS and SGS marked, made in India, and it ships with four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances of 100 ml each. The coverage figure assumes that connected air, so a stairwell shut behind a door breaks it - and a duplex whose upper landing is tall changes the conversion too, since 1000 m3 is a volume and the sq ft line assumes an ordinary ceiling. Ask on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 rather than guess. Fragrance adds a scent and does not remove, neutralise or purify one. A portion of every SOSA order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Stand at the bottom of the stairs and look up. If you can see the ceiling of the floor above, it is one volume; if you can see a door, it is two.
The short version: Vaayu at ₹11,999 when the stair is open at both ends and the common areas are one volume of up to about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft. Bottles from ₹749 when they are not.
Two mechanisms, one staircase, and the count that settles it
Three things settle this, and the middle one is a two-minute walk that most people skip because it feels too simple to be the deciding factor.
1
First
The two mechanisms, stated plainly
A passive bottle works by evaporation. Oil travels up the sticks and leaves into the air touching them, so the scent is strongest where the bottle is and falls away from there. Nothing is switched on, nothing is scheduled, and nothing stops when the house is empty. SOSA bottles are ₹749 to ₹849 in 50 ml and ₹1,249 to ₹1,349 in 130 ml, about 6 to 10 weeks each, and a duo set is ₹1,498 to ₹2,598 for two bottles of the same size in one of three published pairings.
Vaayu works by cold-air diffusion. It breaks water-free oil into a dry mist and puts it into the air of the space, and it does that only in the windows it has been told to - 1, 4, 8 or 24 hours, chosen days, adjustable intensity, from a Bluetooth app or its own buttons, at under 38 dB, with auto-stop and a key-lock.
So the difference that matters is not power, it is reach and control. A bottle has no reach and needs no control. A machine has published reach and is entirely about control. Which of those a duplex needs is decided by the shape of its circulation, and by whether anybody in the house will ever touch an app.
Tip: One is rated for a volume. The other is rated, in effect, for being near you.
2
Second
Walk the stairs and count the closed doors
Start at the front door of the lower floor and walk to the top of the stairs without opening anything. Count what you had to pass through.
Zero doors means the common areas are one connected body of air, and that is the case the published figure describes: up to 1000 m3, stated as about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft. An entrance opening into living, living opening into dining, an open stair and a gallery landing above it - one machine, one scent, one schedule, and it is the only product here that can do that job at all.
One or more doors means it is not one volume, whatever the total area of the duplex says on paper. A door at the foot of the stairs, or a lobby door on the upper landing, divides the air into two, and the coverage figure does not cross it. The accurate answer then is bottles from ₹749, placed in the three or four rooms that are actually used, which is usually a cheaper gift and always a more truthful one.
Two more honest notes. If the connected volume is larger than the published figure, nothing is published about what a second machine would add. And if the upper landing is double height, the sq ft equivalent stops describing the room, because 1000 m3 is a volume and the area figure assumes an ordinary ceiling. Both of those go to WhatsApp on +91 96192 18531.
3
Third
The question that outranks the architecture: who is going to run it?
There is a version of this duplex where the stair is open, the volume is one piece, the machine is plainly the better instrument - and it is still the worse gift. That is the house where nobody will open an app. A machine that is never scheduled is an object on a console; a passive bottle in the same house is working all week without being asked.
So find out honestly whether the recipient runs things or leaves them. If the answer is leaves them, buy the bottles and buy them well: a 130 ml for the main room, a 50 ml for the landing and one for the study, and a single scent repeated across all three reads as a decision rather than an accident.
If the answer is runs things, then the published facts do the rest. It comes complete with four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances of 100 ml each, and refills afterwards are SOSA waterless nebuliser oils at ₹1,049 for 100 gm and ₹1,849 for 300 gm. Ask about one number before you buy: the page states the life of a 400ml fill two different ways - about 75 days in its specification data and 90 or more in its body copy - and it depends on intensity and scheduled hours in any case. There is no published installation service, no warranty period and no running-cost figure.
Tip: A machine nobody schedules is worse than a bottle nobody has to think about.
Read the number strictly, not generously
About 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft - of air that is actually connected
Vaayu publishes a coverage figure, which almost nothing in home fragrance does: up to 1000 m3, stated as about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft. The caveat matters more than the number. A rating assumes one connected body of air. A ground floor that runs living into dining into a stairwell is one volume and is exactly what the figure describes. A bungalow of the same total area with six closed doors is not one volume, it is six rooms, and the figure does not transfer. Work out how much of the house is genuinely open before you work out anything else - and note that no guidance is published on what a second unit adds.
The two-minute walk that settles a duplex, in four steps
Walk from the front door to the top of the stairs and open nothing on the way.
Count what you passed through. Zero doors is one volume; one door is two.
Ask whether anybody in that house will actually open an app to run it.
Leaves things alone means bottles from Rs 749, placed room by room.
The SOSA principle
A duplex is described by its area and lived in as a circulation route. Fragrance follows the route, not the area, which is why the useful measurement is the number of doors between two rooms rather than the number of square feet inside them.
That is also why the answer flips between an eleven-thousand-rupee machine and a few seven-hundred-rupee bottles on a detail nobody mentions when they ask the question - and why it is worth walking the house before spending either amount.
Which set, and what changes when one scent has to serve two floors
If the machine is the answer, the choice narrows quickly: three published four-scent sets, all ₹11,999, pairing Ritz-Carlton with Westin, St. Regis and 1 Hotels inspirations; Westin with Shangri-La, Four Seasons and Ritz-Carlton; and St. Regis with W Hotels, 1 Hotels and Four Seasons. These are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations, composed by SOSA, and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. One scent serving two floors is a heavier commitment than one scent in one room, which is an argument for starting at a lower intensity setting and letting the house adjust rather than the other way round. If the bottles are the answer instead, the discipline is different and simpler: repeat one scent through the common rooms rather than giving each room its own, because a duplex with an open stair will mix them anyway and a duplex with doors will make the difference between rooms feel accidental.
The SOSA gift edit
Machine against bottles, and the two ways of getting it wrong
The option
Who it suits, and where it fails
SOSA Vaayu · ₹11,999
Published for up to 1000 m3, about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft of connected air, under 38 dB, 1, 4, 8 or 24-hour windows with chosen days and adjustable intensity, four 100 ml fragrances in the box. It fails behind a closed stairwell door, and it fails in a house where nobody will ever open the app.
Several 50 ml bottles · ₹749 to ₹849 each
Passive, about 6 to 10 weeks, nothing to plug in or schedule, and working whether or not anybody is home. The accurate answer for a duplex that is really four rooms. It fails when it is asked to carry a large open volume, because it scents the air immediately around itself and no further.
Two 130 ml bottles · ₹1,249 to ₹1,349 each
The larger passive format, sensible for a main living room and an upper landing, and a good gift to hand over as a pair. It fails on the same geometry as the 50 ml, just later - and it is still one scent per room rather than one scent across a connected floor.
SOSA Megh · ₹5,999
The largest ultrasonic, water-based and sized for a single room. It sits between the bottles and the machine on price, and it fails the duplex question specifically: it wants water and regular refilling, which is a recurring chore handed to somebody who did not choose it.
The two details that matter in a finished house
Under 38 dB, and it runs only when you tell it to
Two published details decide whether this belongs in a house somebody spent years on. It runs under 38 dB, which is the answer to the reasonable worry about a machine humming in a double-height living room. And it is scheduled: Bluetooth app plus onboard buttons, run windows of 1, 4, 8 or 24 hours, chosen days and adjustable intensity, with auto-stop and a key-lock. That is what makes it workable in a house occupied for part of the year, or a room used only when people come over. It is 165 x 80.5 x 215 mm and 0.9 kg, black or white, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounted, and it ships with four 100 ml fragrances - so it is complete on the day it arrives.
Two products people raise at this point, both worth answering. SOSA Meenar at ₹38,500 is published for 12,000 to 18,000 sq ft and is built for a hotel, a showroom or a corporate floor; a duplex is not that building, and buying it would be spending more than three times as much to solve a different problem. SOSA Safar at ₹3,999 is cordless and portable, which sounds useful for two floors and is not: it goes with a person to a car or a hotel room rather than scenting a property, and it is imported rather than made in India. The smaller ultrasonics - Boond at ₹899 and Sukoon at ₹1,899 - are water-based and single-room, and attars from ₹379 are worn rather than placed. None of those is the duplex answer, but knowing why they are not is how you stop second-guessing the one that is.
₹11,999. Up to 1000 m3, stated as about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft of connected volume. A 400ml tank, Bluetooth app plus onboard buttons, 1h/4h/8h/24h run windows and adjustable intensity. Under 38 dB.
165 x 80.5 x 215 mm and 0.9 kg, in black or white, freestanding on a surface or wall and HVAC mounted. DC 12V / 1A at 5W, with auto-stop and a key-lock, and CE, RoHS and SGS marks.
Every Vaayu ships with four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances, 100 ml each, in one of three published four-scent sets. So it is complete on arrival, which matters more for a gift than it sounds.
four x 100 ml included
The number this whole decision turns on, and where it stops being true
Up to 1000 m3 - about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft - of connected air
SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 publishes a coverage figure, which almost nothing else in home fragrance does: up to 1000 m3, stated on the product page as about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft. It is a waterless cold-air machine producing a dry, residue-free mist with no water and no heat, running under 38 dB on DC 12V / 1A at 5W, with a 400ml refillable tank, Bluetooth app and onboard button control, run windows of 1h, 4h, 8h or 24h, day scheduling and adjustable intensity, plus auto-stop and a key-lock. It is 165 x 80.5 x 215 mm and 0.9 kg, in black or white, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounted, CE, RoHS and SGS marked, and its country of origin is India. But a coverage rating assumes one connected body of air. That figure describes an open-plan living-dining floor, a duplex's main level, a double-height hall - the kind of volume a small passive bottle cannot reach. It does not describe a bungalow with every internal door closed, because that is not one volume; it is six. Above about 3,000 sq ft of genuinely connected space, or across separated wings, the honest answer is a conversation rather than a number, because no multi-unit guidance is published. SOSA Meenar at ₹38,500 is published for 12,000 to 18,000 sq ft and is a commercial machine rather than a house gift.
Tell SOSA who it is for, roughly how big the room is, whether their home is already scented and what you want to spend - and you will be told which size and which scent, including the times the honest answer is the 50ml rather than the 130ml.
The honest question in a duplex is not how many floors there are. It is how many doors you have to open to walk from one end of it to the other.
— Sonal Sahani, SOSA
The SOSA gifting range
Two questions settle almost every reed diffuser gift, and the first one is not price. How big is the room it is going into? A 50ml suits a bedroom, a study, a hallway or a first diffuser; a 130ml suits an open-plan living and dining area, and it is genuinely too much for a small closed bedroom. Then: how much do you actually know about their taste? The less you know, the less declarative the scent should be - Morning Freshness is the safest of the five for a home you have never stood in, and Fresh Brew coffee-vanilla is the strongest opinion in the range. Price follows those two answers rather than leading them.
The SOSA range, sorted by how much air it is meant to handle
Up to 1000 m3, stated as about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft of connected volume - a 400ml tank, Bluetooth app and onboard buttons, 1h/4h/8h/24h scheduling, adjustable intensity, under 38 dB
Worn on the body rather than placed in a room - the right answer when the gift is about the person and not the house
from ₹379
A coverage rating assumes one connected body of air. Vaayu's figure describes an open-plan volume - a living-dining floor, a duplex's main level, a double-height hall. A house with every internal door shut is not one volume, and the figure does not transfer to it. Every Vaayu ships with four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances, 100 ml each, and its country of origin is India. Fragrance adds a scent to a space; it does not remove, neutralise or purify one, and the dry residue-free mist is a statement about residue rather than about air quality. SOSA blends described as hotel-inspired are SOSA's own interpretations and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. Prices above are published retail prices; bulk orders are welcome and quantities are settled on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531. SOSA is an Indian fragrance house based in Pune. The honest spec sheet
What the Vaayu page publishes, and what it does not
Everything below is on the live product page. Anything not on this list is not something a page like this should state.
The machine - waterless cold-air diffusion, dry and residue-free, no water and no heat. 165 x 80.5 x 215 mm, 0.9 kg, black or white, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounted. DC 12V / 1A, 5W. Under 38 dB. Auto-stop and key-lock. CE, RoHS and SGS. Country of origin India.
Control - a 400ml refillable tank, Bluetooth app plus onboard buttons, run windows of 1h, 4h, 8h or 24h, day scheduling and adjustable intensity. This is what makes it workable in a house that is empty for stretches, or a room used only at weekends.
In the box - every Vaayu ships with four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances, 100 ml each, in one of three published four-scent sets, all at ₹11,999. SOSA blends described as hotel-inspired are SOSA's own interpretations and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand.
The fragrance - alcohol-free, water-free oils formulated for cold-air diffusion. SOSA waterless nebuliser refills are ₹1,049 for 100 gm and ₹1,849 for 300 gm and are published for Vaayu and Safar. The water-based ultrasonic bottles belong to a different kind of machine.
Not published, and therefore never stated here: how long a 400ml fill lasts as a single figure - the page says about 75 days in one place and 90 or more in another; what a second unit adds; any warranty period, service interval or filter; any installation service; any app name, phone compatibility or Bluetooth range; and any running or electricity cost. Those go to WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.
Not sure whether the house needs a machine or a bottle? Tell SOSA on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 four things: roughly how much of the ground floor is one connected open volume, whether the internal doors stay open or shut, how often the house is actually occupied, and what you want to spend. You will get one straight answer rather than a catalogue - including the times the honest answer is a reed diffuser from ₹749 or a duo set from ₹1,498 rather than a machine. What is not on this page, because SOSA does not publish it: what a second unit adds, any warranty period, any installation service, any running or electricity cost, and any app or Bluetooth compatibility detail. One thing to check before you buy: the Vaayu page states the life of a 400ml fill two different ways - about 75 days in one place and 90 or more in another - and it depends on intensity and scheduled hours in any case, so ask rather than plan around a number. Every Vaayu ships with four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances, 100 ml each; SOSA waterless nebuliser refills are ₹1,049 for 100 gm and ₹1,849 for 300 gm. Bulk orders are welcome and custom label or logo on product is available; quantities and anything commercial are settled on WhatsApp rather than priced on a page. Bespoke composition, a fragrance composed for you by Sonal, is a real SOSA service and is also discussed there. Where SOSA is: an Indian fragrance house based in Pune, sending orders across India, with no shop, stockist, counter or warehouse in any other city.

A note from Sonal
The messages I find hardest to answer are the ones that begin with an apology. They have just finished building the house. I don't want to sound cheap, but I also can't buy them anything that matters at that scale. And underneath it is a real anxiety: that after years of drawings and delays and site visits, whatever you turn up with will look like a token.
What I would say is that the anxiety is aimed at the wrong thing. You are not competing with the house. Nobody is. The people who built it spent two years choosing between four shades of the same stone, and there is no object you can hand over that will register on that scale. Trying is how people end up buying a vase that gets moved to a spare room.
The reason I keep coming back to scent for these particular houses is unromantic. It is the last layer, and it is the only one nobody planned. An architect resolves the volume, a designer resolves the surfaces, a lighting consultant resolves the evening, and then everybody stops - because scent is not on anybody's drawing. So it is one of the few things left that adds to a finished house without arguing with a single decision already made in it.
The part I would be careful about is the number. Vaayu publishes a coverage figure, which almost nothing in home fragrance does, and I would rather you read it strictly than generously. About 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft, of air that is actually connected. A ground floor that opens living into dining into a stairwell is that. A bungalow with six closed doors is not that, whatever its total square footage says on paper, and a page that blurs the two is doing you no favours.
Frequently asked questions
When is one machine genuinely better than several reed diffusers?
When the common areas are one connected body of air - an open stair with no door at either end, living running into dining, a landing above. SOSA Vaayu is published for up to 1000 cubic metres, about 2,000 to 3,000 square feet of connected volume, and it is the only format here that can carry one scent across a space of that kind. Where doors divide the circulation, several bottles is the accurate answer.
Will one Vaayu be enough for a duplex?
It depends on the connected volume rather than the total area. If the stair is open at both ends and the living and dining run together, the published figure of about 2,000 to 3,000 square feet describes that situation directly. If a door closes the stairwell, the two floors are two volumes and the figure does not cross the door. No guidance is published on what a second unit would add, so a larger connected volume is a WhatsApp conversation at +91 96192 18531.
Are reed diffusers the cheaper option or the worse one?
Cheaper, and often the more accurate one. SOSA reed diffusers are Rs 749 to Rs 849 in 50 ml and Rs 1,249 to Rs 1,349 in 130 ml, running about 6 to 10 weeks, with duo sets from Rs 1,498 to Rs 2,598 in three published pairings, none composed to order. They are passive, need nothing operated, and keep working in an empty house - which is why they suit a duplex of separate rooms better than any machine does.
Does the machine make noise on a floor where people sleep?
It is published as operating under 38 dB, and it runs only in the windows it is given. Control is by Bluetooth app or the buttons on the unit, with 1, 4, 8 or 24-hour run windows, chosen days, adjustable intensity, auto-stop and a key-lock. That scheduling is usually more relevant than the figure itself in a duplex, since the upper floor is normally wanted quiet at night.
What is not published that I should ask about?
How long a 400 ml fill lasts as one number - the page says about 75 days in its specification data and 90 or more days in its body copy, and it depends on intensity and scheduled hours either way. Also unpublished: how a double-height landing changes the coverage arithmetic, what a second unit would add, no warranty period, no service interval, no installation service and no running-cost figure. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531 for any of it.

About the coverage figure: a rating assumes one connected body of air. The published figure describes an open-plan volume such as a living-dining floor, a duplex's main level or a double-height hall, and does not describe a property whose rooms are separated by closed doors, whatever its total floor area. No guidance is published on what a second unit adds. About tank life: the Vaayu product page states the life of one 400 ml fill in two different ways - approximately 75 days in its specification and FAQ data, and 90 or more days in its body copy - and in either case it depends on the intensity setting and the scheduled hours, so no single figure is stated on this page. What is not published, and is therefore not stated here: any warranty period, service interval or filter; any installation service; any app name, phone compatibility or Bluetooth range; any running or electricity cost; and any multi-unit coverage. Limits of this guide: fragrance adds a scent to a space. It does not remove, neutralise, mask or purify odour, it does not clean the air, and no SOSA product makes any health, antibacterial or air-purifying claim; a dry residue-free mist is a statement about residue and not about air quality. No claim is made anywhere on this page about mood, stress, calm, sleep or wellbeing, nor about how any recipient or guest will feel, nor about what a gift does for any business result. No page here characterises any recipient's wealth or describes people who own particular kinds of property; where a property value appears it is the figure the reader themselves supplied as context. SOSA blends described as hotel-inspired are SOSA's own interpretations and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. SOSA Home & Body is an Indian fragrance house based in Pune, Maharashtra, sending orders across India, with no shop, showroom, stockist, counter or warehouse in any other city.
