A first-time founder's interior plan usually has a line item for 'scent machine', decided from a drawing months before the building opens. The line item is right to be there; the decision on it is too early, and the two things worth separating are the plan and the purchase.
Quick answers — read this first
Should scenting be in the interior plan for a first athlete-performance centre? Yes, as a plan for the power point and mounting position. No, not yet as a machine purchase - defer that until the building is open and its real air is known.

What goes on the drawing now? A power point near the mount, an agreed mounting height, and where the HVAC return sits relative to it.

What do I actually use on opening day? A reed diffuser - Mountain Breeze, ₹849 - cheap, and easy to move if placement turns out wrong.

When do I decide on a machine? After a few weeks of real occupancy, using the same test as the rest of this cluster: connected air over ~1,500 sq ft and a genuine need for control.
The short answer
Short answer: Plan the point and the position now; decide the machine itself once the building is open and its real air is known.
Day one: A reed diffuser - cheap, and easy to relocate while you learn how the space actually behaves.
No ROI claim: SOSA makes no claim that scenting affects bookings, retention, memberships, referrals or spend. The argument here is ambience - the same case you would make for lighting, flooring or the quality of a waiting-room chair - never a return on investment.
Next step: Send us your interior drawings before opening and we will mark the power point and mount position - no need to decide the machine yet - ask for a clinic scenting plan.
Plan the point. Defer the purchasePlan the electrical point and mount height nowDefer the machine itself until the building is openYou cannot size a room you have not yet feltA reed can start on day one; a machine should waitAir behaves on paper very differently than in real life
A first-time build has one advantage a renovation never gets: the chance to plan the spec before the walls close, without having to commit to the machine yet.
Straight answer
I'm opening my first athlete-performance centre - should scenting be included in the interior plan?
Yes to the plan, and not yet to the purchase - the two are easy to conflate and worth separating cleanly. What belongs on the interior drawing, decided now while it costs nothing extra, is a power point near where a machine would eventually sit, an agreed mounting height and position with your architect, and a note of where the HVAC return sits relative to that spot - all of it detailed in full in should my architect plan scent-machine locations. None of that commits you to a specific machine on a specific day. What should not go on the drawing is a purchase order for a SOSA Vaayu or a SOSA Angaan, because a floor plan cannot tell you how the air in a room actually behaves once the AC is running, the equipment is generating heat, and forty people are moving through it at 6pm. A first-time founder who buys the machine before opening is sizing it against a drawing; a founder who waits a few weeks is sizing it against the real building, and the two answers are often different - sometimes because the connected air turns out smaller than the plan suggested, sometimes because a supply vent turned out to sit exactly where the machine was meant to go. For opening day itself, use a Mountain Breeze reed diffuser at ₹849: it needs no wiring decision, costs little enough that moving it twice in the first month is not a loss, and gives reception a considered baseline while you learn how the building actually behaves. Once you have felt the space on a genuinely busy day - a few weeks is usually enough - apply the same test the rest of this cluster uses: is the connected air genuinely over roughly 1,500 sq ft, and do you need control a reed cannot give you. SOSA makes no claim that scenting affects bookings, retention, memberships, referrals or spend. The argument here is ambience - the same case you would make for lighting, flooring or the quality of a waiting-room chair - never a return on investment.
Plan the power point and mounting position now, on the drawing. Defer the machine itself until the building is open and you have felt its real air with people and AC running.

Day one vs after opening

Two very different purchases, separated by however long it takes to feel the building on a genuinely busy day.

SOSA Mountain Breeze reed diffuser
Day one - no wiring decision, easy to relocate
SOSA Mountain Breeze
Himalayan pine, sage and Indian cedar on an alcohol-free base. ₹849 for 50ml. The right choice while the building's real air is still unknown.

SOSA Vaayu
Once the building has been felt on a busy day
SOSA Vaayu
Waterless cold-air nebuliser, 400ml tank lasting 90+ days a fill, key-lock, under 38dB. Bought against real occupancy, not a drawing.

SOSA Vaayu
The purchase to defer, not the plan
SOSA Vaayu
1000m³ coverage, about 2,000-3,000 sq ft depending on ceiling height, key-lock, under 38dB. Sized against the building's real, occupied air - never against its floor plan alone.

Three things worth planning now

None of these three commits you to a machine. All three are far cheaper to decide before the walls close than after.

1
The power point
One socket, agreed now, near where a machine might sit
A wall or ceiling machine needs power somewhere specific, and running a cable to that spot after the ceiling is closed is a different job to running it while the ceiling is still open. Agreeing a rough position now, even before you know which machine, costs nothing and saves a genuine headache later.
Tip: Ask your electrician for one spare point near the likely mounting position, even undecided.
SOSA Vaayu
A Vaayu runs on DC 12V/1A at 5W - a modest, easy-to-plan point.
See SOSA Vaayu →
2
The mounting position
Agreed with the architect, not decided alone later
Wall or ceiling height, distance from the nearest supply vent, and clearance from equipment are all easier to agree on a drawing, in the same conversation as the rest of the layout, than to work out afterward around furniture that has already been placed.
Tip: Mark the position on the same drawing as the lighting and the AC layout, not a separate note.
SOSA Mountain Breeze reed diffuser
A reed needs none of this - which is exactly why it is the right day-one product.
See Mountain Breeze →
3
The HVAC return
Noted now, decided by the facilities engineer
Where the return sits relative to a future machine position affects how fragrance moves through a room, and it is a detail worth a mention to your HVAC contractor while the ductwork is being planned - not a fragrance decision, a coordination note.
Tip: One line in the HVAC brief now saves a retrofit conversation with the same contractor later.
SOSA Angaan HVAC nebulising diffuser
An Angaan can be HVAC-connected - worth flagging early if the floor turns out large.
See SOSA Angaan →
The SOSA principle
A drawing can tell you where a machine could go. It cannot tell you how the air in that room will actually behave once people are training in it.
Plan the spec on paper, where it's cheap. Decide the purchase after opening, where it's accurate.
SOSA Vaayu
After opening: SOSA Vaayu, ₹11,999 - the purchase to make once the building's real air is known, not before.

What exactly to tell the architect is set out in full in should my architect plan scent-machine locations, and the test for whether the machine is worth buying at all once the building is open is in is a commercial scent machine worth buying. Neither step commits you to a purchase before you can feel the room.

The plan (power point, mount position, HVAC return) is free to decide now; the purchase is best decided once the building has been felt. The one number we will publish on running cost is electricity: a SOSA Vaayu draws 5W, which works out to roughly 1.5 units of electricity a month on a ten-hour daily schedule. Tariffs vary by state and by connection, so treat that as an order of magnitude, not a bill.

A note from Sonal

First-time founders often want the whole interior plan finished on paper, fragrance included, because it feels like the responsible way to open. I understand that instinct, and I still tell them to leave the machine decision for a few weeks after opening.

I have seen a beautifully planned machine position turn out to sit directly under a supply vent that wasn't on the drawing everyone was working from. Nobody's fault - that is simply how buildings behave differently once the systems are actually running.

Plan everything that is genuinely cheap to plan now - the point, the position, the note to your HVAC contractor. Then wait, run a reed, and let the building tell you what it actually needs.

Frequently asked questions

I'm opening my first athlete-performance centre - should scenting be included in the interior plan?
Yes, as a plan - a power point, a mounting position, an HVAC return location - and no, not yet as a purchase. Decide the specification on paper, where it is cheap to change, and decide the machine itself once the building is open and you have felt its real air with people, AC and equipment running.
What exactly should go in the interior plan before opening?
A power point near the intended mounting spot, a mounting height and position agreed with the architect, and a note of where the HVAC return sits relative to it. None of that commits you to a specific machine or a specific day-one purchase.
Why not just buy the machine before opening, to have everything ready?
Because a drawing cannot tell you how air actually moves once the AC, the equipment and the foot traffic are all running together. A machine sized from the floor plan alone is a guess; a machine sized after a few weeks of real occupancy is a specification.
What should I use for fragrance on opening day, then?
A reed diffuser. It costs little, needs no wiring decision, and can move rooms in five minutes if your first instinct about placement turns out wrong - which is common in a genuinely new building.
How long should I wait before deciding on a machine?
Long enough to feel the building on a full, busy day - a few weeks is usually enough. The question to ask at that point is the same one used across this cluster: is the connected air genuinely over roughly 1,500 sq ft, and do you need control a reed cannot give.

Editorial standards & sources
About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Product recommendations reflect the SOSA range; the planning advice applies to any brand.

Facts verified 5 September 2026 against the live SOSA product pages: the SOSA reed diffusers are alcohol-free, phthalate-free and paraben-free compositions on a heat-stable coconut-derived base, supplied in a refillable glass bottle with six fibre reeds, flipped weekly, with 50ml lasting 6-8 weeks and 130ml lasting 14-18 weeks, tested at 45°C and 85% relative humidity - Mountain Breeze ₹849 / ₹1,349, Morning Freshness ₹749 / ₹1,249, Evening Calm ₹799 / ₹1,299. The SOSA Sukoon (₹1,899) is an ultrasonic cool-mist diffuser covering about 270-320 sq ft for 16-18 hours on the low setting and supplied with three 15ml Hotel Collection fragrances; being ultrasonic, it works by aerosolising water and therefore adds some moisture to the air, which is worth weighing in a warm, high-occupancy room. The SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, described by the manufacturer as approximately 2,000-3,000 sq ft, with a 400ml refillable tank lasting 90+ days a fill depending on intensity and run hours, Bluetooth app and onboard button control, 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, adjustable intensity, operation under 38dB, DC 12V/1A at 5W (roughly 1.5 units of electricity a month on a ten-hour daily schedule, and tariffs vary), freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting, auto-stop and key-lock, and CE, RoHS and SGS certification - which are electrical and compliance marks, not medical approval. Being waterless, it adds no moisture and leaves no residue on surfaces or equipment; refill availability should be confirmed with SOSA. The SOSA Angaan (₹25,999) is an HVAC nebulising diffuser rated to 3,000m³, roughly 8,000-10,000 sq ft, with an 800ml reservoir, metal body, programmable schedules and operation under 42dB. Coverage figures are volumetric, so ceiling height changes the floor area a machine genuinely serves. SOSA products are not medical devices and no health, therapeutic, recovery, wellbeing or athletic-performance claim is made or implied anywhere in this guide; ambient scent is an interior and hospitality decision that works alongside cleaning, laundry, footwear storage, ventilation and hygiene protocol and is never a substitute for any of them, and SOSA sells no deodoriser, purifier, dehumidifier, extractor or shoe-care product. Infection control, equipment cleaning, linen protocol, air-change rates and HVAC filtration are matters for the practitioner and the facilities engineer. Fragrance sensitivity is real: staff should be able to switch any system off in seconds, and no SOSA product is described as hypoallergenic or as safe for sensitive individuals. The hotel-inspired scents are SOSA's own original interpretations; SOSA is an independent brand and is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, any hotel named for reference. Coverage, fragrance usage and running cost depend on the space, settings and hours of use, and are confirmed on a consultation. Prices and availability are subject to change - see the live product pages. The build-stage sequence above is general planning guidance for a first opening and does not replace a site visit once the building is occupied.
