Two questions, in order. Where is the supply air thrown? A diffuser jet transports output, it does not spread it. And where does the customer stop walking? Because nothing is registered on the move.
Quick answers — read this first
What is the commonest placement mistake? Mounting the unit inside an AC supply diffuser's throw. The jet does not diffuse the output, it carries it several metres and deposits it wherever the jet lands, usually a far wall or the floor.
Where should the machine go instead? In the slow part of the room's air loop, on an internal wall the customer faces when they stop walking, neither under a supply diffuser nor beside a return grille.
Why does customer movement matter? Because a person moving through a zone is in it for four seconds. Scent is only perceived where somebody is stationary long enough for a few breath cycles, so you map standing points rather than floor area.
The short answer
Short answer: by the air and the standing points - never inside the AC supply's throw, never next to a return grille, and on the wall the customer faces at the place they actually stop.
The pick: a SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) wall-mounted at 1.8-2.2m, or an SOSA Angaan (₹25,999) on the duct for one very large connected floor.
Where should a scent machine be planned in a premium Kokapet showroom, relative to AC, entrances and customer movement?
Two questions decide it, and they have to be answered in this order: where does the air actually go, and where does the customer stop walking.Start with the air, because that is where almost every showroom gets it wrong, and the mistake is a specific and understandable one.An owner reasons that the air conditioning moves air around the room, so putting the machine near a supply diffuser will help the fragrance travel. That is not what a supply diffuser does.It produces a jet - a directed stream leaving the diffuser at real speed and designed to reach a specified distance, which is why HVAC drawings quote a throw figure in metres for every outlet on the ceiling.Anything released into that jet is not spread by it.It is transported by it, held together, and set down wherever the jet gives up its energy - typically a far wall, a high corner, or the floor in the middle of a display run. The result is a showroom where the fragrance is genuinely present and is present eleven metres from the person who was supposed to notice it.The opposite error is quieter and just as expensive: mounting the unit beside a return grille, where output is drawn into the return path and pulled out of the room before it has dispersed into anything. So the rule is neither.Find the slow part of the loop - the zone the air passes through rather than the zones where it enters and leaves - and put the machine there, on an internal wall (never the glazed elevation, which carries a permanent updraught of its own). At drawing stage you get this from the consultant: ask for the diffuser layout with throw distances and the return positions, and mark your point away from both. After handover there is a ten-second version of the same test.Hold a light strip of tissue at the proposed mounting height with the AC running normally. If it snaps flat and holds, that is a jet and your output will be transported. If it drifts and wanders, that is the slow zone and the bracket goes there. Now the second question, which is about people rather than air, and it is the one that turns a technically correct position into a useful one.A showroom is not a floor. It is a walking route with three or four standing points on it: the display the customer stops in front of, the counter, and the chair where paperwork happens.Fragrance is only ever perceived where somebody is stationary long enough for several breath cycles to repeat in the same air - which means the entrance, the aisle and the circulation route are all places where money spent on scenting is money spent on people who are moving. The entrance is doubly wrong, because it is also the most air-exchanged part of the building, which is what a door that keeps opening actually costs you. So mark the standing points on the plan first, then find the slow air near the most important one, then put the unit on the wall those customers are facing, at 1.8 to 2.2 metres with the output into the room rather than into a corner or a stock bay. An SOSA Angaan at ₹25,999 on the duct where the showroom floor is one very large connected volume, or a SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 wall-mounted, key-locked and timed to opening hours. Fragrance is an ambience decision like lighting or seating: it does not remove or reduce anything in the air, it treats nothing and relieves nothing, and SOSA makes no claim that it does.Closed one-to-one rooms where a customer sits with a manager are never scented.A named seat away from the source is kept genuinely fragrance-free and offered rather than requested. It works alongside ventilation, cleaning and housekeeping, never instead of them, and the visitor's preference overrides any plan. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Away from both the AC supply throw and the return grille, on an internal wall in the slow part of the air loop, facing the place customers actually stand still - not the entrance, the aisle or the circulation route.
Mounted where the air is slow: SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999, or an SOSA Angaan at ₹25,999 on the duct.

A connected reception, waiting area and corridor of ~1,500-3,000 sq ft
Waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³ - about 2,000-3,000 sq ft - on one unit. In a clinic, salon or showroom its value is control rather than reach: the key-lock holds the level the furthest waiting chair was judged to, so it survives every shift and every new receptionist, and the 1h/4h/8h/24h timer keeps it on opening hours rather than saturating an empty room overnight. Waterless, so it adds no moisture and leaves no residue on stock, mirrors, screens or displays. 400ml tank, roughly 75-90 days depending on intensity and run hours, under 38dB, wall or HVAC mount.
Himalayan pine, sage and Indian cedar - the driest register SOSA makes and the house default, because it reads as a considered room rather than as a hotel lobby. Where reception is a single seating group, this bottle at the staff end of the desk at ₹849 for 50ml carries the register on its own, three or four reeds in, flipped weekly; 130ml at ₹1,349 lasts 14-18 weeks. Alcohol-free, phthalate-free, six fibre reeds, and carried out of the room in seconds if a client asks.
1000m³ coverage (about 2,000-3,000 sq ft) on a single unit, ₹11,999. In a Hyderabad clinic, salon or showroom it is bought for the key-lock that holds the level the furthest seat chose, the 1h/4h/8h/24h timer that keeps it on opening hours, and a waterless output that adds no moisture in a humid month and leaves no residue on stock, mirrors or displays. Adjustable intensity, 400ml tank running roughly 75-90 days depending on intensity and run hours, Bluetooth app and onboard buttons, auto-stop, under 38dB, DC 12V/1A at 5W. Freestanding, wall or HVAC mount. CE, RoHS and SGS certified - electrical and compliance marks only. Made in India.
One question decides whether the output arrives anywhere useful. The other decides whether anybody is there when it does.
1
The jet
A supply diffuser transports
It produces a directed stream with a specified throw in metres. Output released into it is carried, held together, and set down wherever the jet gives up its energy.
Rule: ask for the throw figures, not just the layout.
2
The return
The quieter, equal mistake
A unit beside a return grille has its output drawn into the return path and taken out of the room before it has dispersed into anything at all.
Rule: neither the inlet nor the outlet.
3
Slow zone
The ten-second tissue test
Hold a light strip of tissue at the proposed mounting height with the AC running normally. If it snaps flat and holds, that is a jet. If it drifts, that is the slow zone.
Test: at drawing stage, ask the consultant instead.
4
Standing points
Map where people stop walking
A showroom is a route with three or four standing points on it. Scent is only perceived where somebody is stationary long enough for breath cycles to repeat in the same air.
Test: the entrance and the aisle are not among them.
5
The bracket
Internal wall, 1.8 to 2.2 metres
Output into the room rather than into a corner or a stock bay, on the wall those customers are facing, never on the glazed elevation with its own updraught.
Rule: one power point, marked before the ceiling closes.
The SOSA principle
An AC supply diffuser does not spread your output. It picks it up, holds it together and puts it down where the jet runs out of energy - which is how a showroom ends up genuinely fragrant eleven metres from the person who was meant to notice.
Which is why the throw figures on the HVAC drawing are worth more to this decision than the floor area on the architectural one.
The house default: Mountain Breeze - Himalayan pine, sage and Indian cedar at ₹849. Dry and cool, so it reads as a considered room rather than as a hotel lobby, which is the distinction a clinic or a showroom needs.
One machine for the visitor-facing floor: SOSA Vaayu, ₹11,999 - waterless, wall or HVAC mounted on the far side of the waiting area from the treatment-room doors, key-locked at the level the furthest chair allowed and timed to opening hours.
One register, the visitor-facing zone only, set from the furthest seat
SOSA Vaayu ₹11,999 waterless, key-locked and timed to opening hours; Mountain Breeze ₹849 or Morning Freshness ₹749 as the register. Send the floor plan with the closed rooms and the entrance marked and we will return it with the placement and the fragrance-free seat.
A showroom is not a floor. It is a walking route with three or four places where somebody stands still - and those are the only places where a fragrance decision is ever collected.

The SOSA Hyderabad specification
What goes where in a clinic, salon, showroom or office
A connected reception, waiting area and corridor of ~1,500-3,000 sq ft
Wall or HVAC mounted on the far side of the client zone from the meeting-room doors; level set from the furthest chair at the end of the longest wait, then key-locked; timer on opening hours
A SOSA Sukoon (₹1,899) is the water-based rung for a single enclosed reception or client lounge of roughly 270-320 sq ft in a dry room, and a Boond (₹899) for a single cabin; both run on the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance (from ₹299), which is not reed diffuser oil and is not interchangeable with it. Above about 3,000 sq ft of one connected volume the step is one SOSA Angaan (₹25,999) on the duct, not a second Vaayu. Closed treatment rooms, consultation cabins and any closed one-to-one room are never scented - the person inside cannot leave and did not choose to be there - and that is achieved by placement and doors rather than by a lower setting. A named seat away from the source is kept genuinely fragrance-free and offered at the desk rather than waiting to be asked. Fragrance is an ambience decision like lighting or seating: it does not remove or reduce anything in the air, it treats nothing and relieves nothing, it makes no contribution to what a visitor buys, books or decides, and it works alongside ventilation, cleaning and housekeeping, never instead of them. The visitor's preference overrides any plan.Ask for a scenting plan for your space and send the floor plan with the closed rooms and the entrance marked.

A note from Sonal
Two questions decide it, in this order: where does the air actually go, and where does the customer stop walking. Start with the air, because that is where almost every showroom gets it wrong, and the mistake is understandable. An owner reasons that the air conditioning moves air around, so putting the machine near a supply diffuser will help the fragrance travel. That is not what a supply diffuser does. It produces a jet - a directed stream leaving at real speed and designed to reach a specified distance, which is why HVAC drawings quote a throw figure in metres for every ceiling outlet. Anything released into that jet is not spread by it. It is transported, held together, and set down wherever the jet gives up its energy: a far wall, a high corner, the floor in the middle of a display run.
The opposite error is quieter and just as expensive - mounting the unit beside a return grille, where the output is drawn into the return path and pulled out of the room before it has dispersed into anything. Frequently asked questions
Should a scent machine be placed near an air conditioning supply?
No. A supply diffuser produces a jet with a specified throw, so it carries output several metres and sets it down elsewhere rather than spreading it.
What is wrong with placing it beside a return grille?
The output is drawn into the return path and taken out of the room before it has dispersed, which wastes the same money in the opposite direction.
How do I find the slow zone in a finished showroom?
Hold a strip of tissue at the proposed mounting height with the AC running normally. Snapping flat indicates a jet; drifting indicates the slow zone.
Why is the entrance a poor place for the machine?
Nobody stands there long enough to register anything, and it is the most air-exchanged part of the building because of the door.
What mounting height and orientation should be specified?
Roughly 1.8 to 2.2 metres on an internal wall, output directed into the room and facing the point where customers actually stand still.
Locked at the level the furthest chair chose: SOSA Vaayu, ₹11,999 - adjustable intensity, 1h/4h/8h/24h timer, key-lock and auto-stop, under 38dB, waterless so it leaves no residue on paper, screens or signed documents.
An AC supply diffuser does not spread fragrance, it transports it - a jet with a throw specified in metres, which picks up your output and sets it down at a far wall. A return grille does the reverse and removes it. Mount in the slow part of the loop, on an internal wall at 1.8 to 2.2 metres, facing the place customers actually stop walking, because nothing is registered in transit. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Product recommendations reflect the SOSA range; the planning advice applies to any brand.
Facts verified 9 September 2026 against the live SOSA product pages: the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, described by the manufacturer as approximately 2,000-3,000 sq ft, with a 400ml refillable tank lasting roughly 75-90 days depending on intensity and run hours, Bluetooth app and onboard button control, 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, adjustable intensity, operation under 38dB, DC 12V/1A at 5W, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting, auto-stop and key-lock, and CE, RoHS and SGS certification - electrical and compliance marks only. Being waterless it adds no moisture and leaves no residue on paper, screens or documents; refill supply should be confirmed with SOSA. The SOSA Angaan (₹25,999) is an HVAC nebulising diffuser rated to 3,000m³, roughly 8,000-10,000 sq ft, with an 800ml reservoir, metal body, programmable schedules and operation under 42dB. The SOSA Sukoon (₹1,899) is a 500ml water-based ultrasonic diffuser for a single room of roughly 270-320 sq ft, and the SOSA Boond (₹899) is its compact equivalent; both use the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance (15ml from ₹299, 100ml ₹999, 300ml ₹1,799), which is made for ultrasonic diffusers and is not reed diffuser oil. SOSA reed diffusers - Morning Freshness (₹749 / ₹1,249) and Mountain Breeze (₹849 / ₹1,349), or the two together as the Fresh & Grounded duo (₹1,548 / ₹2,548) - are alcohol-free and phthalate-free, with a 50ml bottle lasting 6-8 weeks and a 130ml bottle 14-18 weeks. Ambient fragrance in a commercial space is an interior and hospitality decision only. SOSA makes no claim that it treats, relieves, prevents or improves any medical, dental or psychological condition, that it makes anyone feel calmer, more comfortable or more confident, that it affects recovery, patient comfort or any clinical outcome, or that it affects footfall, walk-ins, enquiries, bookings, conversions, sales, average spend, dwell time, customer retention or revenue. It does not remove or reduce any odour in the air, and it is never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning, housekeeping or fresh-air exchange - an office with a persistent smell has a source to find and fix first. Closed treatment rooms, consultation cabins and any closed one-to-one room are never scented, because the person inside cannot leave and did not choose to be there. A named seat away from the source is kept genuinely fragrance-free in the reception or waiting area and offered rather than waiting to be requested. The visitor's preference overrides any plan on this page, and where a customer, patient or member of staff is sensitive to fragrance the correct response is to reduce or switch off. The hotel-inspired scents are SOSA's own original interpretations; SOSA is an independent brand and is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, any hotel named for reference. Coverage, fragrance usage and running cost depend on the space, settings and hours of use, and are confirmed on a consultation. Prices and availability are subject to change - see the live product pages.
