Warm is one of the few fragrance words that describes a sensation rather than a material, which is why it can be arrived at from two completely different directions. Readers who want warmth without smoke have usually only ever been shown one of the two, and it happens to be the one that sits closest to smoke.
Quick answers — read this first
What are the two routes to warmth? The sweet route and the dry route. The sweet route uses vanilla, tonka, amber and benzoin: it is round, edible and comforting, and it is what most of the market means by a warm perfume. The dry route uses spices and dry leaf materials - saffron, cardamom, cinnamon, tobacco - and produces warmth with no sugar in it at all. Both are legitimate. The reason this matters to you is that the dry route runs closest to smoke, because dry leaf and dry wood materials are the ones that also produce a smoky reading.

Which SOSA products should I take off my list? Nawaab, and clearly. Its published notes are white royal oud, Mysore sandalwood, Kashmir saffron, aged tobacco, leather and amber - it is warm, but the tobacco and leather give it exactly the smoky character you have ruled out, and it is the heaviest thing SOSA makes for skin. The Pack of 3 at ₹1,055 is Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani, so it contains Nawaab whether you want it or not, plus a sweet floral, and it excludes Adaa. SOSA sells no sampler, so buy a single 3ml instead.

So what should I buy, and what does it cost? Two honest answers. The attar route is Ameeri at ₹385 for the 3ml - Taif rose, real Indian sandalwood, Persian saffron and a soft oudh, warm through the saffron rather than through smoke, with no tobacco and no leather in its list. It carries rose and it carries oudh, and both are stated. The perfume-line route is Tabac Noir at ₹599 for 10ml, a tobacco-vanilla, and I will say plainly that it contains vanilla and that tobacco is in its accord.
The short answer
Short answer: warmth arrives by two routes: a sweet one built on vanilla, tonka and amber, and a dry one built on spices and dry leaf - saffron, cardamom, cinnamon, tobacco. Only the dry route is ever mistaken for smoke, because dry materials are also the smoky ones. At SOSA the attar route is Ameeri, ₹385 for the 3ml, warm through Persian saffron with no tobacco or leather in its list - and its Taif rose and soft oudh are disclosed. On the perfume line, Tabac Noir is a tobacco-vanilla at ₹599 for 10ml, with its vanilla disclosed. Nawaab is ruled out for its aged tobacco and leather.
The pick: the attar first: the 3ml of SOSA Ameeri at ₹385 - Taif rose, real Indian sandalwood, Persian saffron and a soft oudh, no synthetic rose, alcohol-free, and it wears 6-8 hours. The rose and the oudh are both disclosed so you can rule it out yourself. On the SOSA perfume line, SOSA Tabac Noir at ₹599 for 10ml is a tobacco-vanilla, described by SOSA name and accord only, with its vanilla disclosed and no published note list or wear figure.
Next step: tell me whether sweetness is acceptable to you, because that single answer decides which of the two routes to warmth you should be shopping, and send me any warm perfume you have liked so I can see which route it took - Ask for an attar recommendation.
Warmth without smoke or incense - the answer in five linesTabac Noir 10ml, ₹599 - a tobacco-vanilla, not an attarWarmth has two routes: sweet and dry. Both recommendations on this page arrive with a note attached that you might not want: Ameeri's rose and oudh, and Tabac Noir's vanilla. You should have both before you spend anything.
SOSA Tabac Noir - a tobacco-vanilla on the perfume line, named by accord only
Straight answer
Which perfume oil should somebody choose for warmth without smoke, incense or a heavy oud?
Two answers and one question for you, because the question decides which answer is yours. Warmth in perfumery comes by two entirely separate routes. The sweet route is built on vanilla, tonka, amber and benzoin - round, soft, faintly edible, and it is what most of the market means by a warm fragrance. The dry route is built on spices and dry leaf: saffron, cardamom, cinnamon, tobacco, which give you warmth with no sugar in it at all. Both are real, and neither is better. The reason it matters here is that the dry route is the one that runs closest to smoke. Dry leaf and dry wood are exactly the materials a perfumer reaches for to produce a smoky reading, so a reader asking for dry warmth and no smoke is asking for a narrow band, and a reader who can accept some sweetness has a wider one. So: is sweetness acceptable to you? If it is, the answer on the SOSA perfume line is Tabac Noir at ₹599 for 10ml, a tobacco-vanilla, and I am disclosing straight away that it contains vanilla and that tobacco is part of its accord - if tobacco is one of the things you have been calling smoke, then this is not your bottle and you should stop here. If sweetness is not what you want, the attar route is Ameeri at ₹385 for the 3ml: Taif rose, real Indian sandalwood, Persian saffron and a soft oudh, with no tobacco, no leather and no amber anywhere in its published list. Its warmth comes from the saffron. And the two disclosures I owe you on it: it carries Taif rose and it carries oudh, described as soft rather than heavy, which is the whole reason it sits on this page rather than on the oud-free one. Now the ruling out. SOSA makes exactly four attars - Adaa, Ameeri, Mastani and Nawaab - and Nawaab is out: white royal oud, Mysore sandalwood, Kashmir saffron, aged tobacco, leather and amber, which is warm and also precisely the smoky-leathery character you excluded, in the heaviest thing SOSA makes for skin. Mastani carries oudh with vanilla and tonka, so it is a sweet-route bottle with an oud in it. Adaa at ₹379 is the lightest attar and it has green cardamom in it, but it is not a warm composition and I will not sell it to you as one - it is bright and dry. The Pack of 3 at ₹1,055 contains Nawaab, so it is ruled out too. Ameeri is alcohol-free with no DPG and wears 6-8 hours, the only longevity figure SOSA publishes; nothing at all is published for the perfume line, so no figure is given for Tabac Noir. And the standing limits: SOSA publishes no outcome claim for a fragrance, because there is no honest way to measure one, and makes no health claim of any kind. Ask for an attar recommendation and tell me whether sweetness is in or out.
Warmth comes by two routes: sweet, through vanilla and amber, and dry, through saffron, cardamom and tobacco. Only the dry one is ever mistaken for smoke. Ameeri at ₹385 is the attar route, warm through Persian saffron, with rose and soft oudh disclosed. Tabac Noir at ₹599 for 10ml is the tobacco-vanilla, with its vanilla disclosed. Nawaab is out on its leather.
The perfume-line bottle is SOSA Tabac Noir, a tobacco-vanilla, at ₹599 for 10ml. Named by SOSA name and accord only, with its vanilla disclosed and no published note list or wear figure. The attar route instead is Ameeri at ₹385 for the 3ml, warm through Persian saffron, with rose and soft oudh in it.

SOSA Tabac Noir
10ml, 50ml and 100ml at ₹599, ₹1,799 and ₹3,499. A tobacco-vanilla, referred to by its SOSA name and its accord only. Its vanilla is disclosed on this page rather than buried, and tobacco is part of the accord. SOSA publishes no note list and no longevity figure for the perfume line, so none is given here. It is a spray rather than a perfume oil, so its reach is the widest of the three formats SOSA sells. Composed by an ISIPCA Versailles-trained perfumer and hand-blended in Pune.

The sweet route and the dry route, and which one you are describing

Three steps. The first two are about naming what you want accurately, and the third is where our own bottles get ruled out.

1
Name the kind of warmth you mean
Sweet warmth and dry warmth feel similar in a description and nothing alike on skin
Ask yourself what the warm perfume you liked actually did. If it felt soft, rounded and faintly edible, you liked the sweet route, and the materials were vanilla, tonka, amber or benzoin. If it felt like spice rather than dessert - warm without being sugary, with a bit of a rasp to it - you liked the dry route, and the materials were saffron, cardamom, cinnamon or a dry leaf. Most people who write to me asking for warmth without smoke turn out to want the dry route, which is also the narrower one, so it is worth being sure. If sweetness is acceptable, your shelf gets considerably wider immediately.
Tip: Answer one question before you shop: is sweetness in or out. Everything else follows from it.

2
Understand why dry warmth borders on smoke
The materials that make a fragrance dry-warm are the same ones that can make it smoky
Dry warmth comes from things that have been cured, dried or spiced: saffron threads, cardamom pods, tobacco leaf, dry woods. Those are also the shelf a perfumer raids to build smoke, because a dried material at higher concentration or next to a leather accord starts to read as burnt. So dry warmth and smoke are neighbours by construction, not by accident. What keeps a dry-warm composition on the right side of the line is restraint and company: saffron beside rose and sandalwood stays warm, while tobacco beside leather and oud goes smoky. That is the difference between Ameeri and Nawaab, and it is visible on both note lists.
Tip: Look at what sits next to the spice. Rose and sandalwood keep it warm; leather and oud push it towards smoke.

3
Then rule out by name, SOSA included
One of ours is warm and smoky, one is warm and sweet, one is warm and dry, and one is not warm at all
Nawaab is warm and smoky: oud, sandalwood, Kashmir saffron, aged tobacco, leather and amber. It is out on the tobacco and the leather, and it is the heaviest thing SOSA makes. Mastani is warm and sweet: two florals, sandalwood, oudh, vanilla and tonka, so it takes the sweet route and carries an oud as well. Ameeri is warm and dry, through Persian saffron, with a soft oudh and Taif rose that I have disclosed twice on this page already. Adaa is not warm - bergamot, green cardamom, neroli, jasmine sambac and white musk is a bright, dry composition, and calling it warm would be selling you something it is not. The Pack of 3 contains Nawaab, so it is out.
SOSA Ameeri
One bottle of Ameeri from ₹385 is the whole purchase here.

The SOSA principle
Warmth arrives by two separate routes, a sweet one and a dry one, and only the dry route shares its raw materials with smoke.
Which is why a reader who will accept some sweetness has a much wider shelf than one who wants dry warmth and nothing burnt anywhere near it.
SOSA Tabac Noir
The attar route to dry warmth: SOSA Ameeri is Taif rose, real Indian sandalwood, Persian saffron and a soft oudh, with no tobacco or leather in the list. Rose and oudh disclosed. ₹385 for the 3ml.

Choosing your route before you shop

One table, and the first row is the only one you have to answer. The rest follows from it.

The SOSA shortlist
Sweet warmth, dry warmth, and where each lands in the SOSA range
The question What to do
SOSA Tabac NoirIs sweetness acceptable to you?
If yes, the sweet route opens up and Tabac Noir, a tobacco-vanilla on the perfume line at ₹599 for 10ml, is the honest suggestion, with its vanilla disclosed.
SOSA AmeeriDo you want spice rather than sugar?
Then the dry route, and the attar is Ameeri at ₹385 for the 3ml, warm through Persian saffron, with Taif rose and a soft oudh in it and both disclosed.
Is any oud at all out of the question?
Then Ameeri goes too, and only Adaa is left of the four - which is bright and dry rather than warm, so it answers a different question than this one.
Is tobacco part of what you call smoke?
Then Tabac Noir is out as well, because tobacco is in its accord. That leaves the dry-warm attar route or nothing, and I would rather say so.
Are you drawn to the word oriental?
That usually means a loaded base: resins, ambers and heavy woods. It is the shape you have ruled out, whatever the warmth in it, so treat the word as a warning.
Should you buy the Pack of 3?
No. It is Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani at ₹1,055, so it contains the smoky one regardless, and it excludes Adaa. Buy one 3ml instead.

The separation this page depends on - that smoke and oud are two different objections - is worked through properly in I don't want my attar to smell smoky. And if you like woods and it is only the smoke standing in the way, the harder version of that brief, with the honest gap at the end of it, is I like woods but hate smoke. SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house and every attar named here is its own composition.

SOSA Tabac Noir
The perfume-line route, with its vanilla stated: SOSA Tabac Noir is a tobacco-vanilla at ₹599 for 10ml, named by SOSA name and accord only, and no note list or wear figure is published for it.
One route, one bottle, one size
SOSA Tabac Noir is ₹599 for 10ml, and SOSA Ameeri is ₹385 for 3ml - decide on sweetness first, then buy the smallest size.
See the SOSA Tabac Noir Ask for an attar recommendation
Dry warmth and smoke are neighbours by construction rather than by accident, which is why this question needs two answers instead of one.
— Sonal Sahani, SOSA
Why these two, for this particular reader

The SOSA attar specification

SOSA makes exactly four attars, three of which contain oud, and only Adaa does not. On a brief about warmth that arithmetic matters, because the warm attars are the ones with oud in them, so the disclosures below are the important part of the table. The single question to settle before you shop is whether sweetness is acceptable, because that decides which route to warmth is open to you. SOSA makes exactly four attars, and Nawaab is named here as ruled out on its aged tobacco and leather, along with the Pack of 3 that contains it. The only longevity figure SOSA publishes is that the attars wear 6-8 hours; nothing at all is published for the perfume line, so no figure is given for Tabac Noir on this page, and no note list is published for the solid body perfumes, which is why none is described here. Ameeri's Taif rose and soft oudh and Tabac Noir's vanilla are both disclosed rather than buried. A note from Sonal

Warmth is the request I most often have to ask a second question about. Somebody writes that they want a warm fragrance but nothing smoky, nothing incense-like and nothing that is all oud, and every one of those exclusions makes sense. What the letter does not tell me is whether they want sugar. That is not a small detail. It is the fork in the road, and half the recommendations I could give them sit on one side of it and half on the other.

In plain terms: warmth is a sensation, and perfumers get to it two ways. You can build it with sweet materials - vanilla, tonka, amber, benzoin - which gives you something rounded and comforting. Or you can build it with dried and spiced ones - saffron, cardamom, cinnamon, tobacco leaf - which gives you warmth with a rasp instead of a sugar. The second route is the one people mean when they say they want warmth without sweetness, and it is also the route that borders on smoke, because dried materials are what smoke is made from. Keep saffron beside rose and sandalwood and it stays warm. Put tobacco beside leather and oud and you have built Nawaab.

So my answer is a fork too. Ameeri at ₹385 for 3ml is the attar route, warm through Persian saffron, and it carries Taif rose and a soft oudh which I have now told you three times because you should not find that out at home. Tabac Noir at ₹599 for 10ml is the perfume-line route, a tobacco-vanilla, and its vanilla is disclosed. I am ruling out Nawaab and the Pack of 3 that contains it. Buy the 3ml, not the trio. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

I want warmth without smoke, incense or heavy oud - what should I choose?
Two honest answers. In the attars, Ameeri at Rs 385 for the 3ml: Taif rose, real Indian sandalwood, Persian saffron and a soft oudh, warm through the saffron, with no tobacco or leather in its list. Its rose and oudh are disclosed. On the SOSA perfume line, Tabac Noir at Rs 599 for 10ml is a tobacco-vanilla, with its vanilla disclosed. Nawaab is ruled out for its aged tobacco and leather.
What is the difference between sweet warmth and dry warmth?
The materials. Sweet warmth is built with vanilla, tonka, amber or benzoin and feels rounded and faintly edible. Dry warmth is built with spices and dried leaf - saffron, cardamom, cinnamon, tobacco - and gives you warmth with no sugar in it. Both are legitimate. Deciding which one you want is the most useful thing you can do before shopping, because it halves the shelf immediately and the two feel nothing alike on skin.
Why does dry warmth so often end up smelling smoky?
Because the materials overlap. Dry warmth comes from things that have been cured or dried, and those are exactly the materials a perfumer uses to build a smoky reading. What keeps a dry-warm composition from tipping over is what sits beside the spice. Saffron next to rose and sandalwood stays warm, which is Ameeri. Tobacco next to leather and oud goes smoky, which is Nawaab. Both note lists are published, so you can see the difference before buying.
Does Tabac Noir contain vanilla?
Yes, and I would rather say so plainly. Tabac Noir is on the SOSA perfume line, which is described by SOSA name and accord only, and its accord is a tobacco-vanilla. So it contains vanilla, and tobacco is part of the accord as well. If sweetness is out for you, or if tobacco is one of the things you have been calling smoke, this is not your bottle. Rs 599 for 10ml, with no note list or longevity figure published for it.
Is Adaa a warm attar?
No, and calling it one would be selling you the wrong idea. Adaa is bergamot, green cardamom, neroli, jasmine sambac and white musk: a bright, dry and short composition, and the only one of SOSA's four attars with no oud in it. There is green cardamom in there, which is a spice, but the composition as a whole is not built for warmth. Rs 379 for the 3ml if the lightness matters more to you than the warmth.
SOSA Tabac Noir
And the bottle that is warm for the wrong reasons: Nawaab's warmth comes with aged tobacco, leather and amber, which is the smoky character this page rules out. It is named here so you can avoid it.
Warmth has two routes, and only one borders on smoke

Facts verified 17 September 2026 against the live SOSA product pages: SOSA makes four attars, each sold in three sizes, 3ml, 6ml and 12ml. SOSA Adaa is ₹379, ₹669 and ₹1,149, with published notes of bergamot, green cardamom, neroli, jasmine sambac and white musk. SOSA Nawaab is ₹399, ₹699 and ₹1,199, with published notes of white royal oud, Mysore sandalwood, Kashmir saffron, aged tobacco, leather and amber. All four are alcohol-free perfume oils with no DPG carriers, on a skin-safe jojoba and sandalwood base, composed by an ISIPCA Versailles-trained perfumer and hand-blended in Pune, and the only longevity figure SOSA publishes for them is that they wear 6-8 hours. The Pack of 3 (₹1,055, ₹1,859 and ₹3,189) is Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani, and it does not include Adaa. The SOSA perfume line - including Khayaal and Samundar - comes in 10ml, 50ml and 100ml and is referred to on these pages by its SOSA name and its accord only. SOSA publishes no note list and no longevity figure for the solid body perfumes or for the perfume line, so neither is given here, and how a solid body perfume smells is never described. SOSA sells no attar sampler and no discovery set, which is why the 3ml is the sample size and is what these pages recommend buying first. Free shipping above ₹499 is the only logistics fact stated on these pages.
