The four coordination items: DC 12V / 1A and 5W at the mounting position; HVAC-return access with room to refill; zone boundaries set by connected volume rather than floor area; and a commissioning record of hours, days, intensity, oil and key-lock holder.
The numbers for a drawing: up to 1000 m³ per unit ≈ 2,000–3,000 sq ft at standard ceiling height, under 38 dB, 400ml sealed tank lasting about 90+ days, CE / RoHS / SGS, black or white.
The limit to disclose in writing: no Wi-Fi, voice assistant, hub, Matter, KNX, RS-232, dry contact or API. No scene can call it and no panel can report it. Say so in the proposal, not at commissioning.
Commercial questions — specifying across several projects, larger quantities, a standing specification — go to the SOSA contact page.
2. In the mechanical drawings, if you want one unit to serve a floor. Vaayu can be mounted into an HVAC return. This is the only genuine integration the product has and it is a mechanical one: the mist joins the building's own moving air and is distributed by the system that already distributes everything else. Coordinate the position with whoever owns the ductwork, and allow access — the 400ml tank still has to be refilled about four times a year by a person standing on the floor or a step.
3. In the zoning plan, drawn in volume. Coverage is up to 1000 m³ of connected volume per unit, roughly 2,000–3,000 sq ft at a standard ceiling height. Read the plan with the doors in the position they will normally be in: a closed door is a boundary, an open plan is one volume, and a double-height living room or an open stairwell consumes coverage that a floor-area figure conceals. I will not give you a machines-per-square-foot rule because there is not an honest one; work from connected volume, ceiling height, door positions, air movement and occupied hours, and the count presents itself.
4. In the handover file, because nothing else is recording it. The schedule lives inside the machine, not in a controller, so the only record of hours, days, intensity, oil family, mounting position and refill date is the one you write. Decide who holds the Bluetooth app and who holds the physical key-lock, and put both names in the document. This takes ten minutes and is the difference between a system that is still correct in year three and one that somebody has quietly turned up to maximum.
5. In the client conversation, in writing, before anybody signs. SOSA publishes no Wi-Fi, Alexa, Google Assistant, Matter, Zigbee, Z-Wave, KNX, Crestron, Control4, RS-232, dry contact or API. Fragrance cannot join a scene, cannot be triggered by a sensor and cannot report its state to a panel. It runs beside the automation on a schedule you set once — for the client the same lived outcome, and for you a different object. That sentence belongs in the proposal.
Vaayu is ₹11,999, runs under 38 dB, holds 400ml for about 90 or more days, mounts freestanding, on a wall or in a return, and is CE, RoHS and SGS certified in black or white. Free shipping above ₹499, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
The three coordination items, and who owns each
A luxury residential project has more consultants than it has decisions, and the way a small item like this gets lost is by belonging to nobody. So it is worth naming, for each of the three coordination points, which drawing it lands on and who has to agree to it.
Vaayu₹11,999DC 12V / 1A, 5W. It is a rounding error against the lighting circuit and it still needs to appear as a point on a drawing, at the position and height where the unit will actually sit. A freestanding unit on a console can usually take an existing socket. A wall-mounted unit at head height cannot, and a return-mounted unit certainly cannot — those need a deliberate point, and by the time you discover otherwise the wall is finished and the joinery is fitted. This is the single most common way a scenting installation becomes visibly compromised, because the fallback is always a cable somebody can see. Owner: the electrical consultant, prompted by you, at services coordination.
Aangan₹25,999The HVAC-return mount is the reason this product is interesting to an architect at all: it is what turns a strong pocket of fragrance near a shelf into an even atmosphere across a whole floor. Treat it as an in-duct coordination item and settle two things early. First, access for refilling — 400ml lasts about 90 or more days, so somebody visits roughly four times a year, and a position that needs a ladder and a dismantled ceiling will be visited less often than that. Second, the limits of concealment generally: this unit needs clear air across its outlet and physical access to its buttons and tank, so a sealed millwork void with no airflow will strangle it however tidy it looks on a section. Owner: the mechanical consultant and the joinery contractor, together, before first fix.
Ask before specifyingContactThis is the decision that determines whether the installation works, and it is free to make correctly on a plan and expensive to correct on site. A closed door is a boundary; an open plan is one volume. Two bedrooms of 200 sq ft each, behind doors, are two zones — not one zone of 400 sq ft — regardless of how close together they are, and no single unit will serve both while the doors are shut. Meanwhile a living, dining and kitchen run that flows together with a void over part of it is one volume, and the void is quietly consuming coverage that the floor plan does not show. Establish the connected volume with the doors in their normal position, note where the ceiling is not standard, look at where air actually moves, and reason from that. Owner: you, at concept, before anybody has quoted a number of machines.
Stage by stage, with the decision to take at each
The same information as a programme rather than a list, because the failure mode in this category is almost never a wrong decision — it is a right decision taken three months too late. The last two rows are the ones people postpone.
| Stage | Decision | Why it belongs here | Cost of doing it later |
|---|---|---|---|
| Concept | Which volumes are scented at all, and on what hours | It is a brief decision, not a product one | None — but everything below depends on it |
| Zoning | Zone boundaries by connected volume, doors in normal position, ceiling heights noted | Determines the number of units and where each one sits | Units in the wrong rooms; a corridor that smells of two things |
| Services coordination | Low-voltage supply, DC 12V / 1A, 5W, at each mounting position | The load is trivial and the point is not automatic | A visible cable, or chased plaster in a finished wall |
| Mechanical coordination | HVAC-return position, with refill and service access | It is an in-duct item like any other | A unit that works and cannot be maintained |
| Joinery and finishes | Clear air across the outlet; access to tank and buttons; black or white finish | Concealment has physical limits | A sealed void that strangles the unit |
| Commissioning | Hours, days, intensity set low, key-lock applied | The dose is set for the arriving nose, not the adapted one | A room that reads as an air freshener within a month |
| Handover | Record settings, oil family, refill cadence, key-lock holder — and the integration limit, in writing | No controller stores any of it | An uncomfortable conversation you could have had earlier |

Drawing zones in volume rather than area
The instinct on a residential project is to divide a house by rooms, because that is how the client describes it and how the furniture plan is organised. Scent does not respect that division; it respects air. So the zoning exercise is a slightly different reading of the same plan, and it takes about twenty minutes. Walk the plan and mark where air actually flows between spaces with the doors in their normal position. A living room open to a dining room open to a stair hall is one volume even though it appears on the drawing as three rooms. A guest bedroom with the door habitually shut is one volume of its own even though it is fifteen square metres. The zones you end up with will not match the room schedule, and that mismatch is the whole value of the exercise.
Then add the third dimension, because coverage is stated in cubic metres and this is where a floor-area habit misleads people. Up to 1000 m³ per unit at an ordinary ceiling height corresponds to roughly 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft, but in the projects this cluster is written for the ceiling height is frequently not ordinary. A double-height living room, a void over a dining table, an atrium above an entrance hall — each of those takes volume out of the budget without taking a single square foot out of the plan. A stairwell open at both ends is worse than a void, because it behaves as a chimney and moves air between floors continuously, which affects the fragrance in both the space it leaves and the space it arrives in.
Where zones must genuinely differ from one another, differ them with a machine each, set independently — there is no way to zone one unit, and I would not want there to be. The more scent profiles a home has, the more boundaries there are where two of them meet, and a corridor that smells of a mixture is worse than a corridor that smells of nothing. For most houses my recommendation is one accord throughout, at different intensities by zone: quieter in bedrooms, a little more present in the entrance and the main living volume, and nothing at all in the kitchen, which is a room with its own agenda. It reads as a single considered atmosphere with variations, which is what a luxury interior is trying to do anyway.
The package — and the honest gap
What a scenting package on a luxury project actually contains, in the order it gets decided, with the commercial position stated as plainly as the technical one. The last row is what is not on offer, in both senses.
| Line | What it is | Why it is in the package | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Vaayu, one per zone ★ | Waterless cold-air nebuliser, up to 1000 m³, under 38 dB, DC 12V/1A 5W, key-lock | The unit is the zone — there is no software zoning | ₹11,999 each |
| 2. Cold-air oil, 300ml | Alcohol-free, water-free, formulated for cold-air diffusion | Named in the specification so no one substitutes neat essential oil | ₹1,799 |
| 3. Services coordination | DC 12V / 1A, 5W at each mounting position; return access where used | Decided at drawing stage or paid for later in finished walls | Drawings, not cost |
| 4. Aangan, where the volume exceeds Vaayu | HVAC nebulising, approximately 8,000–10,000 sq ft | Honest above one Vaayu's sensible reach, rather than several units fighting | ₹25,999 |
| 5. Handover document | Hours, days, intensity, oil, mounting, refill cadence, key-lock holder | No controller is storing the settings; this is the only record | Ten minutes |
| No integration and no trade terms: the honest gap | No Wi-Fi, voice, hub, Matter, KNX, RS-232, dry contact or API — and SOSA publishes no dealer programme, margin, trade price, territory, minimum order or lead time | Disclose the first in the proposal; ask us about the second rather than assuming terms | Stated, not stretched |
Versailles
The projects where scenting has worked best were not the ones with the largest budget. They were the ones where somebody asked the question early — usually an architect, at a stage when the answer cost nothing. Where does the supply go, can we reach the return to refill it, and where are the real boundaries in this house? Three questions, twenty minutes, and they decide almost everything about how the building smells for the next decade.
What I would gently push back on is the idea that scent belongs at the end of the process, as a finishing touch chosen from a shelf. By then the only positions left are the ones nobody wanted, which are the positions with no airflow and no power. Fragrance is the last thing a visitor consciously notices and one of the first things that has to be drawn, and that inversion is the single most useful thing I can tell an architect about this category.
The other is about restraint. The commonest fault I find on a commissioned system is not a machine in the wrong place, it is a machine set too high, because whoever set it had been standing in the room long enough to stop smelling it. Set it lower than feels right, ask somebody who has just come in from outside, then lock it. Restraint is the luxury signal in a room exactly as it is in a composition, and it costs nothing at all. Everything we make is composed in Pune, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

SOSA Vaayu — facts verified August 2026: ₹11,999. Waterless cold-air nebulising diffuser; pressurised air shatters undiluted oil into a dry nano-mist, with no water, no dilution, no added humidity and no residue. Coverage up to 1000 m³, approximately 2,000–3,000 sq ft at standard ceiling height, read as connected volume rather than floor area. Control: Bluetooth app plus onboard buttons, run windows of 1h / 4h / 8h / 24h, day selection, adjustable mist intensity, auto-stop and key-lock; the schedule is stored in the unit. SOSA publishes no Wi-Fi, Alexa, Google Assistant, Matter, Zigbee, Z-Wave, KNX, Crestron, Control4, RS-232, dry-contact or API integration of any kind, and Vaayu cannot be addressed by, scheduled from, included in a scene on, or monitored by any home-automation control system. Mounting: freestanding, wall-mounted or into an HVAC return — a mechanical integration point, not a digital one. Power DC 12V / 1A, 5W at the mounting position. Under 38 dB. 400ml sealed, residue-free, refillable tank lasting up to about 90+ days depending on intensity and scheduled hours; SOSA publishes no millilitres-per-hour consumption rate and none is estimated here. CE, RoHS and SGS certified. Black and white finishes. Oils must be alcohol-free, water-free fragrance oils formulated for cold-air diffusion, such as the SOSA Hotel Collection (100ml ₹999 · 300ml ₹1,799 · pack of seven ₹1,799); thick undiluted essential oils are not recommended as they clog the fine nozzle. Above Vaayu: Aangan ₹25,999 (~8,000–10,000 sq ft), Meenar ₹38,500 (12,000–18,000 sq ft). Below it, on a different mechanism: Sukoon ₹1,899 ultrasonic (500ml, 270–320 sq ft), Boond ₹899 (up to about 150 sq ft), Megh ₹3,499 (six-litre tank, about 100 hours runtime, only about 215 sq ft — never a coverage upgrade). SOSA reed diffusers are alcohol-free, phthalate-free, paraben-free, IFRA-compliant and 0 ppm formaldehyde, with six fibre reeds in a refillable glass bottle, composed in Pune; reed oil and machine oil are not interchangeable in either direction. A scent machine adds fragrance; it does not clean, purify or deodorise air, and SOSA makes no health or air-quality claim. SOSA publishes no dealer programme, reseller margin, trade price, distributor agreement, territory, minimum order, lead time, installation charge or maintenance contract; commercial enquiries are welcome at https://sosahomeandbody.com/pages/contact.
