The air conditioning type changes the plan more than the floor area does, and the two common systems behave in opposite ways.
Quick answers — read this first
How does air conditioning affect a home scenting plan? Considerably. Ducted systems move air between rooms so fragrance travels much further and the setting should be lower. Split units keep each room an island, so each room that matters needs its own point.

Should a machine be installed into ductwork? Our machines are standalone room units, not duct-mounted equipment, and nothing should be introduced into an HVAC system without the system designer involved.

Does air conditioning make a room smell stronger? It distributes fragrance faster and further than still air, so the same setting reads differently. A level set in the evening can read as too much at midday.
The short answer
Short answer: Ducted spreads it far and calls for a lower setting; splits create islands and need a point per room.
The pick: the SOSA Safar (₹3,999) as the flagship delivery gift; volume gifts from ₹299; reed diffusers from ₹749; the Vaayu (₹11,999) for your own premises.

A customer gift works when it survives the drive home - sweets vanish in a day and keychains join a drawer, but a fragrance is used daily in the customer's own car or living room, replaying your brand at every use. The method: gift the milestone moment, set the per-unit band by customer value, brand the gesture with your card, pilot and scale. This guide walks the exact play, with real SOSA options at every band.
Straight answer
How does air conditioning affect a home scenting plan?
It changes the plan more than the floor area does, and the two common systems behave in opposite ways. Ducted: air is drawn from rooms, conditioned centrally and pushed back out, which effectively joins several rooms into one air volume. Fragrance travels much further than the plan suggests - sometimes into rooms you did not intend - so a ducted home wants a lower setting, not a bigger machine, and it is easy to over-scent by simply repeating what worked in a naturally ventilated home. Split units: each one recirculates the air of its own room, so rooms stay islands even with doors open, and the fragrance does not travel. There, each room that matters needs its own point. Two rules either way. One: do not put a source directly at a grille - at a return it is pulled away before doing anything in the room, at a supply it is thrown far further than the position implies. Two: nothing goes into ductwork. Our machines are standalone room units; we supply no duct-mounted equipment, and nothing should be introduced into an HVAC system without the system designer - it is their equipment and their warranty. Hotel Collection from ₹299, Vaayu ₹11,999. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.
Quick answer: ducted joins rooms and needs less; splits create islands and need a point each. Nothing in ductwork.

Ducted joins rooms together. Splits keep them apart

Air conditioning changes a scenting plan more than the floor area does, and the two systems in common use behave in opposite ways, so it is worth establishing which one a project has before anything else is decided. Ducted systems draw air from several rooms, condition it centrally and push it back out through supply grilles. The practical effect is that a set of rooms which look separate on a plan are functionally sharing one body of moving air whenever the system runs. Fragrance introduced anywhere in that circuit travels much further than the plan suggests, and it will reach rooms you did not intend to scent - which is sometimes convenient and sometimes exactly the opposite, if one of those rooms is a child's bedroom or a room belonging to somebody who did not choose the register. Two consequences follow. The first is that a ducted home wants a lower setting rather than a bigger machine, and it is very easy to over-scent one by repeating a level that worked in a naturally ventilated house. The second is that the household will not notice the over-scenting, because everybody adapts to a steady background within about an hour, so it has to be set by rule rather than by nose: choose the low setting, run it continuously, and correct only if a visitor remarks on it. Split units do the opposite. Each unit recirculates the air of its own room and does not exchange air with anywhere else, so rooms remain islands even when doors are open, and fragrance does not travel between them in the way it would in a ducted home. A split-unit house therefore needs a point in each room that matters rather than one point doing more work than the plan implies, and the honest answer to a client who asks why one machine will not scent the whole house is that their air conditioning is actively preventing it. Reeds are usually the right answer in those rooms anyway, since they need no power, no scheduling and no attention: Garden Bloom and Evening Calm at Rs 799, Morning Freshness at Rs 749, Fresh Brew and Mountain Breeze at Rs 849, three to four months a bottle, refills at Rs 2,399 for 300ml and Rs 3,499 for 500ml. Two rules apply whichever system is installed. The first is about position relative to grilles, and it is the error we see most on air-conditioned projects. Do not put a source directly at a grille. At a return grille the fragrance is drawn straight into the system before it has done anything in the room, which produces a room that smells weak while product is being consumed at full rate. At a supply grille the fragrance is thrown much further and faster than the position implies, which produces uneven distribution and a room that is strong in a band and weak elsewhere. Keep the source in the general path of air movement rather than at a specific grille - a metre or two away is usually enough, and a position near a doorway with traffic through it works better than either. The second rule is firmer: nothing goes into the ductwork. Our machines are standalone room units and we do not supply equipment designed to be integrated into an HVAC system. Beyond that, no fragrance should be introduced into ducted air without the HVAC system designer being involved, because it is their equipment, their commissioning and their warranty, and a decision taken on site by a fit-out contractor is not an acceptable way to make it. If a client specifically wants a duct-integrated solution, that is a conversation with their HVAC consultant rather than a product we can supply, and saying so plainly is better than improvising. There is a third effect worth knowing, which is thermal rather than mechanical. Conditioned air is cooler and drier than ambient Indian air, and fragrance behaves differently in it: it reads cleaner and clears faster than it would in the same room unconditioned, and heavy or sweet registers that would turn in humidity hold better in a cooled room. That is a small argument in favour of registers that would otherwise be risky, and a larger one against assuming that a level set on a cool evening will be right during a hot afternoon when the system is working hard and, in a heavily glazed room, solar gain is driving its own convection currents on top of the conditioned air. Set the level for the warm part of the day, or schedule it - lower while the sun is on the glass and slightly higher after dark. That is precisely what timer and app control exists for, and it is why we point air-conditioned open-plan homes at the Vaayu at Rs 11,999 more often than the raw area alone would justify: waterless with no tank, coverage up to 1,000 square metres or roughly 10,700 square feet, with Bluetooth app and timer control. Below it, the Megh at Rs 3,499 with a 6L tank suits a substantial area, the Sukoon at Rs 1,799 a single room and the Boond at Rs 799 a small one. Note also that ultrasonic machines add a small amount of humidity, since they work by misting water, which is generally irrelevant in a conditioned room but worth knowing in a space already struggling with damp - the waterless Vaayu adds none. Machines take the water-based Hotel Collection only at three to six drops per tank with a rinse between scents, never reed oil, which can damage them. One register throughout the home, varied by intensity rather than by scent, because two registers meet in doorways constantly and a ducted system will mix them whether or not the doors are open. The exclusions hold regardless of the air conditioning: never the kitchen at any time, because cooking smell is aerosolised oil and extraction is the answer; no fragrance in children's rooms, which in a ducted home means checking that the circuit does not carry it there anyway; a covered terrace or balcony cannot hold fragrance because the air is not enclosed; staff quarters and utility areas get nothing; and anybody who shares the home and cannot leave it gets a low neutral register and a physical off switch. Everything is alcohol-free and made to IFRA-compliant standards, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Volume pricing is quoted against the specification on WhatsApp.

Why this works
The distinction
1 Ducted systems move air between rooms - things travel further 2 Split units recirculate within a room - each stays an island 3 So ducted homes need a lower setting, not a bigger machine 4 And split homes need a point in each room that matters
The flagship delivery gift: the SOSA Safar at ₹3,999 - a rechargeable waterless car diffuser with three hotel-inspired scents in the box. Per-unit gifts from ₹299; volume pricing on WhatsApp.
01
Ducted joins rooms together
Several rooms, one body of moving air
Fragrance travels much further than the plan suggests and reaches rooms you did not intend - which matters if one of them is a child's bedroom or belongs to somebody who did not choose the register.
Tip: So a lower setting, not a bigger machine.
02
Splits keep rooms apart
Each unit recirculates its own room
Rooms stay islands even with doors open, so fragrance does not travel. Each room that matters needs its own point - and the honest answer is that the air conditioning is preventing what the client expected.
03
Two rules, either system
Off the grille, and nothing in the ductwork
At a return the fragrance is pulled away before doing anything; at a supply it is thrown far further than the position implies. And we supply no duct-mounted equipment.
Tip: Nothing enters an HVAC system without its designer.
The SOSA principle
A client asks why one machine will not do the whole house. Sometimes the answer is their air conditioning.
Split units keep every room an island.

Two systems, two completely different plans

Air conditioning changes the plan more than floor area does, and the two common systems behave in opposite ways. Ducted systems draw air from several rooms, condition it centrally and push it back out, so rooms that look separate on a plan share one body of moving air whenever the system runs - fragrance travels much further than the plan suggests and reaches rooms you did not intend, which matters if one is a child's bedroom or belongs to somebody who did not choose the register. So a ducted home wants a lower setting rather than a bigger machine, and the household will not notice over-scenting because they adapt within an hour, which means setting by rule: low, continuous, corrected only on a visitor's remark. Split units do the opposite, recirculating the air of their own room, so rooms stay islands even with doors open and fragrance does not travel - each room that matters needs its own point, and the honest answer to a client asking why one machine will not do the house is that their air conditioning is preventing it. Reeds suit those rooms anyway at Rs 749 to Rs 849, three to four months a bottle. Two rules apply either way. Do not put a source at a grille: at a return it is drawn into the system before doing anything, so the room smells weak while product is consumed at full rate; at a supply it is thrown much further than the position implies, producing a strong band and weak everywhere else - keep it in the general path of air movement instead. And nothing goes into ductwork: our machines are standalone room units, we supply no duct-mounted equipment, and nothing should enter an HVAC system without its designer, because it is their equipment, commissioning and warranty. A third effect is thermal - conditioned air is cooler and drier, so fragrance reads cleaner and clears faster, and registers that would turn in humidity hold better; but a level set on a cool evening will be wrong on a hot afternoon, especially with solar gain through glazing driving its own currents, so set for the warm hours or schedule it. That is what timer and app control is for, which is why we point air-conditioned open-plan homes at the SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999 - waterless, coverage to 1,000 m² - more often than area alone would justify, with the SOSA Megh at Rs 3,499, the SOSA Sukoon at Rs 1,799 and the SOSA Boond at Rs 799 below it. Ultrasonic machines add a little humidity; the waterless Vaayu adds none. One register throughout, since a ducted system mixes them whether doors are open or not. Never the kitchen, and in a ducted home check the circuit does not carry fragrance into a child's room. Everything is alcohol-free and made to IFRA-compliant standards. Volume pricing is quoted on WhatsApp.

Honest notes for business gifters: customer taste varies, so volume programmes should run gentle, crowd-tested registers - fresh, clean and lightly floral scents are received well across every profile, and space formats (diffusers, reeds, car fragrance) avoid the personal-taste risk of skin perfume entirely. Listed prices are per-unit store prices; volume pricing, pilot batches, branded cards and custom hamper builds are quoted on WhatsApp - and signature-scent development for your brand is a consultation with our perfumer, not an off-the-shelf item, so timelines are discussed case by case. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own interpretations inspired by the world's finest hotels; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house, not affiliated with any hotel brand. Ultrasonic diffusers use the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance; reed diffusers use their own alcohol-free reed oil - the two are not interchangeable. All personal fragrances are alcohol-free and IFRA-compliant. WhatsApp bulk desk: +91 96192 18531. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Versailles
A note from Sonal

Most customer gifts are bought to be handed over, not to be kept: the sweet box is finished by the family that evening, the keychain joins a drawer, the branded pen was never really a gift at all. Then the moment that cost your business lakhs to create - the new car, the new home, the big purchase - is remembered with nothing. A fragrance gift keeps that moment alive, because scent is the sense wired closest to memory: months later, your customer is still in the middle of the experience you gave them.

I trained at ISIPCA in Versailles and everything we make is built for Indian lives - car diffusers that survive a Mumbai summer, reed diffusers that hold through the monsoon, alcohol-free formulas safe to gift across every customer profile. If you run a dealership, a project, a hotel, a showroom or a team, message the bulk desk on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 - tell me the customer moment and the volumes, and I will help you design the programme myself. The business conversations are my favourite kind: one good gifting programme teaches me more about a category than a year of retail orders.

And a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali - so your customer gift quietly gives twice. That equation has always felt right to me.

Frequently asked questions

How does air conditioning affect a home scenting plan?
Considerably. Ducted systems join rooms into one air volume so fragrance travels much further and the setting should be lower. Split units keep rooms as islands, so each room that matters needs its own point.
Can a scenting machine be put into the ductwork?
Ours are standalone room units, not duct-mounted equipment. Nothing should be introduced into an HVAC system without the system designer being involved.
Where should the source go relative to the grilles?
In the general path of air movement, but not at a grille. At a return it is pulled away before doing anything; at a supply it is thrown far further than the position implies.
Does conditioned air change how a register reads?
Yes. Cooler drier air makes fragrance read cleaner and clear faster, and registers that would turn in humidity hold better - but a level set on a cool evening will be wrong on a hot afternoon.
Why does fragrance reach rooms I did not intend?
In a ducted home the circuit carries it. Check that it is not reaching a child's room or somebody who did not choose the register. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.

Facts verified August 2026: Olfactory memory research shows scent-linked memories are unusually durable and emotionally vivid, which is why a used-daily fragrance gift sustains brand association in a way consumable or novelty gifts do not; customer-experience research consistently finds that peak moments (delivery, possession, checkout) disproportionately shape how the whole purchase is remembered. Fragrance preference is personal: volume gifting programmes should default to gentle fresh, green and lightly floral registers, and to space formats (diffusers, reeds, car fragrance) rather than skin perfume.
