How do I spot a useful review? It names a room, a length of time and a specific note. "Lasted four weeks in the living room, real rose" is worth more than "nice smell, five stars".
Are reviews enough to choose by? They are a strong signal, not the whole picture. Pair them with the label - disclosed carrier, IFRA-aligned, named notes - and you have a reliable read.
Read the words, not just the stars, and watch for five recurring themes - longevity, throw, real-versus-synthetic, headaches and packaging. "Still going after weeks in the bedroom" tells you the composition is well made and the reeds were used sensibly. "Smells real, like actual rose" points to true-to-label notes. Versailles
I trained as a perfumer at ISIPCA in Versailles, and when I came home to India I kept noticing the same thing on the shelves: lovely bottles, vague labels. Nobody would tell you what the carrier was, or name the notes.

A lot. "Still going after weeks" usually signals a well-made composition and sensible reed use. Keep the climate in mind - a 50ml lasts roughly 6 to 8 weeks at around 45°C, and longer in an air-conditioned room.
It often points to a thin or synthetic-leaning composition, and it can track with vague labels and undisclosed carriers. By contrast, "smells real" usually means true-to-label notes and a careful composition.
Take repeated mentions seriously. A clean, IFRA-aligned composition used in a ventilated room makes headaches far less likely. Remember that reed diffusers emit some VOCs, so always air the room - and I make no medical claims.
One-line praise with no specifics - "amazing, five stars" - tells you little. Trust reviews that name a room, a length of use and a specific note. Detail is the mark of a real, useful review.
