On a live site the useful work is not the fragrance at all, and the window for it closes when the walls do.
Quick answers — read this first
How do I plan scenting for a project still under construction? Use the open stage for what fragrance can never correct: kitchen extraction, damp and ventilation. Mark one socket per connected volume. Then bring fragrance in last, after the site clean and airing.

Why does construction stage matter so much? Because extraction, waterproofing and ventilation are cheap while the walls are open and expensive or impossible afterwards - and those are exactly the things that decide whether a home smells right.

When should fragrance actually be introduced? After the site clean, and after the building has been aired through the off-gassing period. Fragrance layered over curing paint and adhesive combines with it rather than masking it.
The short answer
Short answer: Fix extraction, damp and ventilation while the walls are open. Fragrance is the very last item.
The pick: the SOSA Safar (₹3,999) as the flagship delivery gift; volume gifts from ₹299; reed diffusers from ₹749; the Vaayu (₹11,999) for your own premises.

A customer gift works when it survives the drive home - sweets vanish in a day and keychains join a drawer, but a fragrance is used daily in the customer's own car or living room, replaying your brand at every use. The method: gift the milestone moment, set the per-unit band by customer value, brand the gesture with your card, pilot and scale. This guide walks the exact play, with real SOSA options at every band.
Straight answer
How do I plan scenting for a project still under construction?
On a live site, the useful work is not the fragrance. It is the things fragrance can never correct, and they are cheap now and expensive or impossible later. One: extraction between kitchen and living space. This is the largest single determinant of whether a home smells right, and in open-plan Indian cooking it is decisive. Cooking smell is aerosolised oil - it lands on upholstery and curtains and stays, and no fragrance masks it, it only combines with it. Specify the extraction properly while the ducting can still be run. Two: damp, waterproofing and ventilation, especially at ground level and in basements, where a slab that sweats in monsoon will produce a smell nothing else can fix. Three: one socket per connected volume, at console height, on the electrical layout - two minutes now, a chased wall later. Then, and only at the very end: the fragrance. New paint, sealers, adhesives, engineered board and coated upholstery off-gas for weeks, and scenting over that produces something worse than either smell alone. Air the building, clean it, then scent it. Hotel Collection from ₹299, Vaayu ₹11,999, reeds from ₹749. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.

Construction is when the real work is cheap

On a project still under construction the useful work is almost entirely not the fragrance, and that is worth saying at the start because it is counterintuitive and it is where the value actually sits. What a live site gives you is access - to ducting routes, to waterproofing, to ventilation strategy, to electrical layouts - and every one of those closes when the walls close. Fragrance itself can be added on the last day of the project or three years later at almost no cost. The things that decide whether a home smells right cannot. First and largest: extraction between the kitchen and the living space. This is the single biggest determinant of whether a home smells the way its owners want, and in Indian cooking it is decisive. Cooking smell is aerosolised oil rather than a light vapour, which means it travels, lands on soft surfaces and stays there - upholstery, curtains, rugs, cushions - and it cannot be masked by fragrance because fragrance combines with it rather than covering it, producing a third smell that reads as a house hiding something. The answer is mechanical: adequate extraction, correctly ducted, sized for the way the family actually cooks rather than for a European kitchen, and ideally with the kitchen able to be closed off from the living volume. That specification is straightforward while the ducting can still be run and effectively impossible afterwards. It is also the reason the kitchen is never scented at any time, and the reason it should be marked as excluded on the drawings rather than left blank. Second: damp, waterproofing and ventilation. In an Indian climate this is the other half of the problem. A ground-floor slab that sweats in monsoon, a bathroom without adequate extract, a basement without a ventilation strategy, or a store room that is sealed all year will each produce a smell that no amount of fragrance will fix and that fragrance will make worse. Natural fibre finishes - rattan, cane, jute, seagrass - take up moisture and go musty in sustained humidity, so if the scheme uses them, the ventilation and dehumidification strategy is part of the fragrance strategy whether anybody labelled it that way or not. All of this is cheap at the shell stage and painful afterwards. Third, and small: the electrical mark-up. One socket per connected volume, at the machine position, at console height rather than skirting level, because a machine distributes through connected moving air and cannot cross a closed door, so the plan divides into zones and only the large connected zone needs power at all. Every room behind a closed door is better served by a reed diffuser, which needs no socket, no scheduling and no attention. That is two minutes on the electrical layout, and after the walls close it becomes a chased wall or a visible cable in a room detailed to the millimetre. If the machine will sit in built-in furniture, the socket and a shelf-depth note go on the joinery drawing too, because a shelf fifty millimetres too shallow makes the position unusable and nobody discovers that until move-in day. Fourth, on programme rather than on drawings: fragrance is the last item, and it should be written into the programme as such. New paint, sealers, adhesives, engineered board and veneer, foam and new coated upholstery all off-gas volatile compounds for weeks and sometimes months after installation, particularly in a sealed air-conditioned building with limited fresh air. That is what most clients are reacting to when a newly finished home smells wrong. Fragrance layered over it does not mask it - the two combine, and the combination is consistently worse than either alone, and the client will conclude the fragrance was the problem. So the sequence is: complete, site clean, then open the building and run air through it for as long as the programme allows, then introduce fragrance. If the client is moving in immediately, say plainly that this is a curing period rather than a defect, and hold the fragrance back rather than using it to cover the smell. A fifth item, which costs nothing on a live site: think about who will be in the house rather than only about the plan. Children's rooms get no fragrance. Staff quarters and utility areas get nothing. Anybody who shares the home and cannot leave it - a live-in parent, staff, a long-staying guest - gets a low neutral register and a physical off switch, not an app-only one, that they never have to justify using. In a ducted air-conditioned home, check that the circuit does not carry fragrance into a room that was meant to be excluded, because ducted systems join rooms into one air volume and will move it whether or not the doors are open. And mark the covered terrace, balcony or verandah as excluded, because it is not an enclosed space and cannot hold fragrance at all regardless of what is installed there - a larger machine does not change the physics, and this is the space clients most often want scented, so the request will come. On the eventual specification, the plan decides: the Vaayu at Rs 11,999 for a large open volume, waterless with no tank, coverage up to 1,000 square metres or roughly 10,700 square feet, with Bluetooth app and timer control; the Megh at Rs 3,499 with a 6L tank; the Sukoon at Rs 1,799 for a single room; the Boond at Rs 799 for a small one; and reeds for every closed room at Rs 749 to Rs 849, three to four months a bottle, refills at Rs 2,399 for 300ml and Rs 3,499 for 500ml, roughly Rs 200 to Rs 280 per room per month. One register throughout, varied by intensity. The seven Hotel Collection registers are Rs 299 for 15ml, Rs 999 for 100ml and Rs 1,799 for 300ml, water-based for ultrasonic machines only at three to six drops per tank with a rinse between scents, never reed oil, which can damage a machine - and that instruction belongs in the handover pack. SOSA is independent and not affiliated with, endorsed by or associated with any hotel brand, and we make no claim that fragrance affects mood, focus, sleep, stress or wellbeing. Everything is alcohol-free and made to IFRA-compliant standards, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Volume pricing is quoted against the specification on WhatsApp.

Why this works
What to do while it is open
1 Extraction between kitchen and living space - the biggest one 2 Damp, waterproofing and ventilation, especially at ground level 3 One socket per connected volume, at console height 4 Then fragrance last, after the site clean and the airing
The flagship delivery gift: the SOSA Safar at ₹3,999 - a rechargeable waterless car diffuser with three hotel-inspired scents in the box. Per-unit gifts from ₹299; volume pricing on WhatsApp.
01
Extraction is the big one
Cooking smell is aerosolised oil
It travels, lands on upholstery and curtains and stays, and fragrance combines with it rather than covering it. Adequate ducted extraction sized for how the family actually cooks is the answer.
Tip: Easy while the ducting can be run. Impossible afterwards.
02
Damp and ventilation, second
Slabs, bathrooms, basements, sealed stores
A ground-floor slab that sweats in monsoon produces a smell nothing fixes. And if the scheme uses cane or jute, the dehumidification strategy is part of the fragrance strategy whether it was labelled that way or not.
03
Then two minutes of drawing
One socket per connected volume, at console height
A machine cannot cross a closed door, so only the large connected zone needs power - every closed room takes a reed, which needs none. Add a shelf-depth note if it sits in joinery.
Tip: And write fragrance into the programme as the last item in.
The SOSA principle
Fragrance can be added three years later for nothing. Extraction cannot be added at all.
Spend the site window on the half that closes.

Fixing what fragrance can never fix

On a live site the useful work is almost entirely not the fragrance, because what a site gives you is access - to ducting, waterproofing, ventilation and electrical layouts - and all of it closes when the walls do, while fragrance itself can be added on the last day or three years later for almost nothing. First and largest is extraction between kitchen and living space, the single biggest determinant of whether a home smells right. Cooking smell is aerosolised oil rather than a light vapour, so it travels, lands on upholstery, curtains and rugs and stays, and fragrance combines with it rather than covering it, producing a third smell that reads as a house hiding something - the answer is adequate ducted extraction sized for how the family actually cooks, with the kitchen able to be closed off, which is straightforward now and impossible later. It is also why the kitchen is never scented at any time and should be marked excluded rather than left blank. Second is damp, waterproofing and ventilation: a ground-floor slab that sweats in monsoon, a bathroom without adequate extract, a sealed basement or store will each produce a smell nothing fixes and that fragrance worsens - and if the scheme uses rattan, cane or jute, which take up moisture and go musty, the dehumidification strategy is part of the fragrance strategy whether or not anybody labelled it so. Third is small: one socket per connected volume at the machine position, at console height rather than skirting level, because a machine cannot cross a closed door so only the large connected zone needs power, while every closed room takes a reed needing none - two minutes now, a chased wall later, plus a shelf-depth note on the joinery drawing if it sits in built-in furniture. Fourth, on programme: fragrance is the last item in. New paint, sealers, adhesives, engineered board and coated upholstery off-gas for weeks in a sealed air-conditioned building, and scenting over that combines rather than masks, so complete, clean, air the building, then scent. Fifth, at no cost: no fragrance in children's rooms, nothing in staff or utility areas, a low neutral register and a physical off switch for anyone who cannot leave, a check that a ducted circuit is not carrying fragrance into an excluded room, and a covered terrace marked excluded because it cannot hold fragrance at all. Then the SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999 with coverage to 1,000 m², the SOSA Megh at Rs 3,499, the SOSA Sukoon at Rs 1,799, the SOSA Boond at Rs 799, and reeds from Rs 749 to Rs 849. Everything is alcohol-free and made to IFRA-compliant standards. Volume pricing is quoted on WhatsApp.

The SOSA business gifting edit

Whatever your business gifts, the logic is the same: gift the milestone moment, set the per-unit band by customer value, keep the register gentle and crowd-safe, and brand the gesture with your card rather than your logo on the product. Every SOSA fragrance is alcohol-free and made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali - so every customer gift quietly gives twice. Here is the full business range by per-unit band.

Honest notes for business gifters: customer taste varies, so volume programmes should run gentle, crowd-tested registers - fresh, clean and lightly floral scents are received well across every profile, and space formats (diffusers, reeds, car fragrance) avoid the personal-taste risk of skin perfume entirely. Listed prices are per-unit store prices; volume pricing, pilot batches, branded cards and custom hamper builds are quoted on WhatsApp - and signature-scent development for your brand is a consultation with our perfumer, not an off-the-shelf item, so timelines are discussed case by case. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own interpretations inspired by the world's finest hotels; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house, not affiliated with any hotel brand. Ultrasonic diffusers use the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance; reed diffusers use their own alcohol-free reed oil - the two are not interchangeable. All personal fragrances are alcohol-free and IFRA-compliant. WhatsApp bulk desk: +91 96192 18531. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

A note from Sonal

Most customer gifts are bought to be handed over, not to be kept: the sweet box is finished by the family that evening, the keychain joins a drawer, the branded pen was never really a gift at all. Then the moment that cost your business lakhs to create - the new car, the new home, the big purchase - is remembered with nothing. A fragrance gift keeps that moment alive, because scent is the sense wired closest to memory: months later, your customer is still in the middle of the experience you gave them.

I trained at ISIPCA in Versailles and everything we make is built for Indian lives - car diffusers that survive a Mumbai summer, reed diffusers that hold through the monsoon, alcohol-free formulas safe to gift across every customer profile. If you run a dealership, a project, a hotel, a showroom or a team, message the bulk desk on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 - tell me the customer moment and the volumes, and I will help you design the programme myself. The business conversations are my favourite kind: one good gifting programme teaches me more about a category than a year of retail orders.

And a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali - so your customer gift quietly gives twice. That equation has always felt right to me.

About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Product recommendations reflect the SOSA range; the customer-gifting advice applies whatever your business finally buys.

Facts verified August 2026: Olfactory memory research shows scent-linked memories are unusually durable and emotionally vivid, which is why a used-daily fragrance gift sustains brand association in a way consumable or novelty gifts do not; customer-experience research consistently finds that peak moments (delivery, possession, checkout) disproportionately shape how the whole purchase is remembered. Fragrance preference is personal: volume gifting programmes should default to gentle fresh, green and lightly floral registers, and to space formats (diffusers, reeds, car fragrance) rather than skin perfume. SOSA range: Hotel Collection ultrasonic fragrance from Rs 299; car perfumes from Rs 449 (spray and hanging, alcohol-free); attars Nawaab, Ameeri, Mastani and Adaa from Rs 379 (3ml/6ml/12ml, alcohol-free); Attar Trio from Rs 1,055; perfumes from Rs 499; reed diffusers from Rs 749; Boond Rs 799, Sukoon Rs 1,799 and Megh Rs 3,499 ultrasonic diffusers; SOSA Safar waterless car and travel diffuser Rs 3,999 (rechargeable, three hotel-inspired scents included); SOSA Vaayu waterless scent machine Rs 11,999 (~1000m³, app + timer).
