A warehouse is not a smell. It is a set of small decisions nobody made - the colour of the light, where the boxes went, when the vents were last wiped, how loud the music is - and the nose is only the last sense to notice. Making an electronics showroom feel less like a warehouse is done in layers, in order, and scent is the fifth layer: added last, set lowest, and useless without the four beneath it.
Quick answers — read this first
How do I make an electronics showroom feel less like a warehouse? In five layers, in this order. One: the temperature of the light - one step warmer than the cool flat ceiling most floors are handed, and directional on the displays that should read as rooms. Two: cardboard out of sight, unboxed in the back, never on the floor. Three: the vents, tops and backs of everything that runs warm cleaned on a rota, and the AC return grilles with them. Four: the music at a level and a tempo a home would have. Five, last and lowest: one dry register - cedar, sage, tea - held at a level the advisor stops noticing.
Why does scent come last? Because each of the first four layers is something the visitor's eye or ear has already read as warehouse, and a fragrance cannot overrule an eye or an ear. Cool light says stockroom whatever the air says. A visible carton says stockroom and smells of one. Warm dust on a vent is a smell no fragrance covers, only adds to. Music at shop-floor volume says shop floor. Scent on top of any of those is a scented warehouse. Scent on top of all four fixed is the last thing a home has that a store does not.
What is the honest fifth layer? Under about 750 sq ft, one Mountain Breeze reed at Rs 849 at the desk - or Morning Freshness at Rs 749 on a white floor - and nothing more. From about 1,500 sq ft of connected floor, one SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999, waterless, on a timer with a key-lock, set low for a hard-surfaced floor. Past about 3,000 sq ft, one SOSA Angaan at Rs 25,999. An interiors decision like lighting or music - SOSA makes no claim that it changes footfall, dwell time or sales, and no claim about what it does to any device on display.
The short answer
Short answer: in five layers, in order: the temperature of the light, cardboard out of sight, vents and tops cleaned, the music level - and only then one dry register held low. Four of the five cost nothing from SOSA, and scent on top of any of them unfixed is a scented warehouse.
The pick: for the fifth layer only: one Mountain Breeze reed (₹849) at the desk for a studio; one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) for a connected floor of roughly 1,500-3,000 sq ft, set low and locked; one SOSA Angaan (₹25,999) past about 3,000 sq ft. Nothing until the first four layers are done.
Next step: send a photograph from the entrance and a floor plan, and we will tell you honestly which layers are missing and whether scent is due yet - ask for a showroom scenting plan.
The first four layers are decisions about light, boxes, dust and sound, and they cost nothing from SOSA. The fifth is the only one SOSA sells, and it is the thinnest.
How do I make an electronics showroom feel less like a warehouse?
In layers, in order, and I want to give you the order before the reasons, because the order is the answer. One, the light. Two, the cardboard. Three, the vents. Four, the music. Five, the scent. Four of those cost nothing from SOSA and one of them is the only thing SOSA sells, and it goes on last and thinnest. Here is why the order is fixed. A warehouse is something the eye reads first, then the ear, then the nose, and each sense can only be corrected by itself - you cannot fix what the eye saw with something the nose smells. So the layers go on in the order the senses read them. The light is first because it is the largest single thing the eye reads and the cheapest to change. Most electronics floors are handed over with cool, flat, even light, because that is the light a fit-out contractor uses and it is also, precisely, the light a warehouse uses. One step warmer on the general ceiling, and a few directional lights on the sets you want to read as a living room or a study, and the same panels and speakers start looking like objects in a home. The cardboard is second because it is the one thing that both looks and smells like a warehouse: a carton visible from the entrance says stockroom to the eye, and cardboard in quantity - dry, papery, faintly sweet - is the note most electronics floors actually carry. Unbox in the back store, keep it behind a door that closes, and hold to a rule that nothing in a box is ever on the floor. The vents are third: everything on an electronics floor runs warm, and the dust that settles on a vent or the top of a display warms with it and gives off the faint toasted note that the electronics-store smell is half made of. The AC return grilles, which pull the whole floor's air through them, are on the same rota. This is a cleaning layer and it is a smell layer, and it comes before fragrance because fragrance over warm dust is a worse smell than either. The music is fourth and it is the layer owners forget: a floor with the radio on at shop volume is a shop, however it looks, and a home has music at a level you could talk over and a tempo you would not notice. Bring it down, choose it, and keep it the same. And then, fifth, the scent - and now it works, because now the floor reads as a home to the eye and the ear, and a dry register held low is one more thing a home has that a warehouse does not. The register is the well-kept-home family every page in this cluster uses: cedar, sage, a little tea, a clean mineral note - Mountain Breeze - on black glass, walnut and matte panels, and lemon and mint - Morning Freshness - on a white floor. It is set lowest of all the layers, because there is no fabric on an electronics floor to absorb it and because it is set for the advisor who stands there nine hours, not the visitor: noticed at the first set, un-nameable at the desk. And it is sized honestly. Under about 750 sq ft, one Mountain Breeze reed at the desk at ₹849 is the whole fifth layer. From about 1,500 sq ft of connected floor, one SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999, waterless so it adds no moisture and leaves no residue, on a timer with a key-lock so it stays at the setting the team agreed. Past about 3,000 sq ft, one SOSA Angaan at ₹25,999. If you have read this far looking for a shortcut through the first four layers, there is none: the refrigerator floor and the signature question both arrive at the same order from different directions. And the sentence every page carries: fragrance is an interiors decision like lighting or music - which on this page is literal, because it is the fifth of five interiors decisions. SOSA makes no claim that it changes footfall, dwell time, conversion or sales, no claim about what it does to any device, screen or finish on display, and it is never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or extraction. Any demo room or tasting zone stays unscented. Ask for a showroom scenting plan and send a photograph from the entrance; we will tell you which layer you are on.
Five layers, in order: light one step warmer; cardboard out of sight; vents and tops cleaned on a rota; music at a home's level; then one dry register, lowest of all. Four cost nothing from SOSA. The fifth: Mountain Breeze (Rs 849) for a studio, Vaayu (Rs 11,999) from about 1,500 sq ft, Angaan past 3,000.
When the first four layers are done, the fifth is small: one Mountain Breeze reed at the desk at ₹849 for a studio, or one SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 for a connected floor of 1,500-3,000 sq ft, set low and locked.
Two honest answers by connected floor area, and neither goes on before the four layers beneath it. The images link to the product pages so every figure can be checked.
A studio under about 750 sq ft - the whole fifth layer
Himalayan pine, sage and Indian cedar - the driest register SOSA makes, and the one that reads as a home on a floor of black glass and walnut once the light is warm and the boxes are gone. Alcohol-free, six fibre reeds; use three on a hard-surfaced floor. 50ml Rs 849 lasts 6-8 weeks at a desk; 130ml Rs 1,349 lasts 14-18 weeks. Reaches one desk zone.
Waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³ - about 2,000-3,000 sq ft - on one unit, Rs 11,999. No water, so no moisture and no residue on glass or screens; 1h/4h/8h/24h timer so it runs trading hours and starts after the morning airing; adjustable intensity set lowest of the five layers; key-lock so the fifth layer stays the thinnest; under 38dB, which matters on a floor where the music is now quiet; wall or HVAC mount.
1000m³ coverage (about 2,000-3,000 sq ft) on a single unit, Rs 11,999, adjustable intensity, 400ml tank running 90+ days a fill, Bluetooth app and 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, key-lock. Wall or HVAC mount high on the reception wall, away from the door and the returns. CE, RoHS, SGS certified. Made in India.
Five cards, one per layer, in the order they are done. The first four are decisions about light, boxes, dust and sound; the fifth is the only one with a SOSA product in it.
1
Light
One step warmer, and directional on the sets - the largest change for the least money
Cool, flat, even light is what a fit-out contractor leaves behind and what a warehouse runs on, and the two facts are related: it is the cheapest light to install and the least flattering to anything under it. A floor of panels and speakers under it looks like stock. Change the general ceiling one step warmer - not amber, just off the cold end - and put a few directional lights on the living-room and study sets so they read as rooms with things in them rather than shelves with things on them, and the eye's first reading changes before a single product has moved. This is the layer that owners most often skip because it does not feel like a smell problem, and it is the layer that most decides whether the fifth one works: under cold light a citrus register reads as a cleaner and a cedar register reads as a sawmill, and under warm light the same cedar reads as a home. A dark, ultra-modern display makes the pairing of light and register in detail.
Test: photograph the floor from the entrance under the current light. If the picture could be a stockroom, the ceiling is the job.
2
Cardboard
Out of sight, out of the air - the one layer that is both look and smell
Cardboard is the only layer that fails two senses at once. A carton visible from the entrance - beside the display it came in, on a top shelf, behind a plant - tells the eye stockroom in a second, and cardboard in quantity has a smell of its own, dry and papery and faintly sweet, that reads as stockroom to the nose a moment later. Both fixes are the same fix: unbox in the back store, keep the back store behind a door that closes, break boxes down and remove them daily rather than weekly, and hold to a rule that nothing in a box is ever on the floor. If the back store shares the floor's AC, ask whoever maintains the plant whether it can be returned separately. A new showroom that smells of plastic and packaging is the same discipline for the first month of a floor's life. None of this costs anything from SOSA, and a fragrance added while a carton is visible is a fragrance over cardboard, which is the definition of a scented warehouse.
Rule: one visible carton undoes the light. Fix the door before the ceiling, if you can only do one this week.
3
Vents
Everything on an electronics floor runs warm - clean what it warms
An electronics floor is the only retail floor where the merchandise runs all day, and everything that runs warms the dust that settles on it. The vents on the backs of panels, the tops of speakers and display cases, the grilles on amplifiers and power supplies, and the AC return grilles that pull the whole floor's air through them - each carries a film of dust that warms and gives off the faint toasted note everyone recognises and nobody can name. There is no fragrance answer to warm dust; there is a cleaning rota. Tops, backs and vents weekly; return grilles monthly; and where the brand allows it, demo units off overnight so they cool. Why a large store smells dusty after cleaning lists what the usual clean misses. This layer comes before scent for the plainest reason in the cluster: fragrance over warm dust is a third smell, and the nose finds it faster than either alone.
When the vents are clean and the boxes are gone, one Mountain Breeze reed at the desk is where a studio's fifth layer starts.
The level and the tempo a home would have - the layer everyone forgets
Walk into a floor with the radio on at shop volume and you are in a shop, however good the light. A home has music, but it has it at a level you could talk over without raising your voice and at a tempo you would not notice until it stopped. Two decisions, both free. The level: below conversation, judged from the desk with a visitor beside you. The choice: made once, not left to whoever opened up, and kept the same for the same reason the fragrance is kept the same - a visitor who meets a different sound on the fourth visit has met a different shop. The music layer is also why the fifth layer's machine matters: a floor that has brought its sound down to a home's level will hear a noisy diffuser, and the Vaayu runs under 38dB, which on a quiet floor is the difference between a machine you forget and one you keep glancing at. A premium sensory identity for a home-appliance store writes light, sound and scent into one standard.
Rule: if you can hear the music from the entrance before you see a product, it is a shop floor. Bring it under conversation.
5
Scent
Last, lowest, one register - the only layer SOSA sells
Now the fifth layer, and it is thin. With the light warm, the boxes gone, the vents clean and the music under conversation, the floor already reads as a home to the eye and the ear, and the fragrance has one job: to be the thing a well-kept home has that a store does not. Dry cedar, sage, a little tea, a clean mineral note on a dark floor; lemon and mint on a white one. Nothing sweet, nothing amber, nothing that reads as a candle shop, because a candle shop is a different kind of store. Set lowest of all the layers - there is no fabric here to absorb anything - and set for the advisor who stands on the floor nine hours: noticed at the first set, forgotten by the second, un-nameable at the desk. Then locked, because on a floor with many hands the fifth layer is the only one that can be turned up by accident. Under about 750 sq ft a Mountain Breeze reed at the desk is the whole layer; from about 1,500 sq ft one Vaayu, waterless, timed, locked. One product fact and only one: the Vaayu adds no moisture and leaves no residue. SOSA makes no claim beyond that about what any fragrance does to any device.
The Vaayu is the fifth layer for a floor: waterless, under 38dB, on a timer, locked at the lowest setting that reads.
A warehouse is four decisions nobody made - the light, the boxes, the vents, the music - and scent is the fifth layer: added last, set lowest, and a scented warehouse if any of the four beneath it is missing.
Light, cardboard, vents, music, scent. In that order, always. Four cost nothing from SOSA. The fifth is a reed or one machine, held low.
The fifth layer for a studio: one Mountain Breeze reed diffuser at the desk, three sticks, ₹849 for 50ml, 6-8 weeks, reaches one desk zone.
Layer by layer: what each one costs and what it changes
The same answer as a table. Each row is one layer, in order; the right column says what it costs, which sense it corrects and what happens if scent is added before it. Only the last row has a SOSA product in it.
The SOSA order
Five layers, what each costs, and what scent does on top of it
The layer
Cost, the sense it corrects, and scent on top of it unfixed
One - the temperature of the light
A ceiling change; corrects the eye. Scent under cold light reads as a cleaner or a sawmill. The largest change on the floor, and it is not a fragrance.
Two - cardboard out of sight
A closed door and a daily rule; corrects the eye and the nose at once. Scent over a visible carton is the definition of a scented warehouse. Cost: nothing.
Three - vents, tops and backs cleaned
A weekly rota; corrects the nose. Scent over warm dust is a third smell the nose finds faster than either. Cost: nothing.
Four - the music level
A decision made once; corrects the ear. Scent on a floor with the radio at shop volume is fragrance in a shop, and the noise will also drown a cheap machine. Cost: nothing.
Five - one dry register, lowest of all
A Mountain Breeze reed at the desk for a studio; one Vaayu from about 1,500 sq ft, set low and locked. Now it reads as a home, because the four beneath it already do. View →
A warehouse is not a smell. It is cold light, a carton by the door, dust on a vent and a radio on too loud. Fix those four for nothing, and then the fifth layer costs one reed.
— Sonal Sahani, SOSA
The ladder for the fifth layer
Reed at the desk, Sukoon in a studio, Vaayu across the floor, Angaan for the big centre
One register, held lowest of the five layers, on whichever product suits the connected floor - and only after the four beneath it are done. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
The SOSA fifth-layer specification
Light, cardboard, vents, music first - then one register, lowest of all, by floor size
A studio under ~750 sq ft in black glass, walnut or matte panels
Pine, sage, cedar - reads as a home under warm light once the boxes are gone; three sticks; reaches one desk zone; nothing to plug in and nothing to hear
Between 750 and 1,500 sq ft a Vaayu is bought for control, no water and distribution - never for coverage. The four 100ml bottles in the Vaayu box are the supply; confirm refill availability with SOSA before you plan on it. Fragrance here is an interiors decision like lighting or music, with no claim about footfall, dwell time, conversion or sales, and no claim about what it does to any device, screen or finish. It works alongside ventilation, cleaning and extraction, never instead of them - on this page it is the fifth of five layers and goes on last. Any demo room or tasting zone stays unscented.Ask for a showroom scenting plan and we will mark up your floor plan honestly.

ISIPCA Versailles
A note from Sonal
The question arrives as a fragrance question and it almost never is one. An owner sends me a photograph of a floor that looks like a warehouse and asks what scent will fix it, and I look at the photograph and see cold light, a carton by the second display and a speaker grille with a week of dust on it, and I know the radio is on because it always is. I write back with four things to do before I will sell them anything, and I put the light first, because it is the one they will not have thought of and the one that changes the photograph most.
The order is not mine; it is the order the senses read a room in. The eye first, so light and boxes. The nose next, so dust and cardboard. The ear, so music. And only then the thing I actually make, because a fragrance is the last thing a well-kept home has that a store does not, and it only reads as that once the room reads as a home in every other way. When it does, it is small: a Mountain Breeze reed at the desk with three sticks in it, or one Vaayu on the reception wall, set at the lowest setting that reads from the first display, and locked there, because the fifth layer is the only one of the five that can be turned up by accident.
So: light, cardboard, vents, music, scent. Four of those cost nothing from me. The fifth is a reed at ₹849 for a studio, a Vaayu at ₹11,999 from about 1,500 sq ft, an Angaan past 3,000. And through all of it: no claim that fragrance moves footfall, dwell time or sales, and no claim about what it does to any device on display. It is an interiors decision, like lighting or music - the fifth of five. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Frequently asked questions
In what order should I change the light, boxes, vents, music and scent on an electronics floor?
In that order: light, cardboard, vents, music, scent. It is the order the senses read a room in - the eye first, then the nose, then the ear - and each sense can only be corrected by itself. Light one step warmer and directional on the sets; cardboard unboxed in the back and never on the floor; vents, tops and return grilles on a cleaning rota; music at a level you could talk over. Then, last and lowest, one dry register. Four of the five cost nothing from SOSA.
Why does the colour temperature of the lighting matter to how a showroom smells?
Because the same fragrance is read differently under different light. Under the cool, flat light a fit-out contractor leaves behind - which is also the light a warehouse runs on - a citrus register reads as a cleaning product and a cedar register reads as a sawmill. Under a ceiling one step warmer, with directional light on the room sets, the same cedar reads as a well-kept home. The light is the first layer for that reason: it decides what the fifth layer will mean.
Is background music really part of making an electronics store feel less like a warehouse?
Yes, and it is the layer owners forget. A floor with the radio on at shop volume is a shop floor however it is lit, and a fragrance on it is fragrance in a shop. A home has music at a level you could talk over without raising your voice, at a tempo you would not notice, chosen once and kept the same. Bringing the sound under conversation is free, and it is also why a quiet diffuser matters afterwards: a quiet floor hears a noisy machine.
What is the smallest honest scent purchase once the other four layers are done?
For a studio under about 750 sq ft, one Mountain Breeze reed diffuser at the desk with three sticks in, Rs 849 for 50ml, and nothing more - it reaches one desk zone and needs no power. From about 1,500 sq ft of connected floor, one SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999, set at the lowest intensity that reads from the first display and key-locked there. Past about 3,000 sq ft, one SOSA Angaan at Rs 25,999. Never anything before the first four layers are done.
Can a fragrance make up for a showroom that still has cartons on the floor?
No. A visible carton tells the eye stockroom in a second and tells the nose the same thing a moment later, because cardboard in quantity has a dry, papery smell of its own. A fragrance added over it is a scented warehouse - a third smell over the cardboard, and a monthly cost with nothing underneath it. SOSA makes no claim that fragrance changes footfall, dwell time or sales, and it certainly makes no claim that it can overrule what the eye has already read.
The fifth layer, for a studio: Mountain Breeze reed diffuser, ₹849 - three sticks, one desk zone, after the light, the boxes, the vents and the music.
Light, cardboard, vents, music - then scent, lowest of all
