The only reliable consumption figure for your spa is the one your spa produces.
Quick answers — read this first
How do I estimate fragrance consumption for a spa? Measure rather than estimate. Set the building correctly, record every zone and fill state, run four weeks without adjusting anything, then record what you used.

Why not use a supplier's estimate? Because it describes their assumptions about zone count, settings, hours and climate, and your building differs on all four.

Does a 12-hour day double consumption? Not necessarily. Timer control lets you run the working level through arrival hours and drop it when the floor is quiet, so hours and consumption are not proportional.
The short answer
Short answer: Measure, do not estimate. Four weeks unadjusted, recorded at both ends, then repeat in the other season.
The pick: the SOSA Safar (₹3,999) as the flagship delivery gift; volume gifts from ₹299; reed diffusers from ₹749; the Vaayu (₹11,999) for your own premises.

Customer gifting that compounds - the SOSA method at a glanceStep 1 - gift the moment: delivery day, possession, checkout, milestone purchaseStep 2 - set the per-unit band: ₹299 to ₹3,999 by customer valueStep 3 - brand the gesture: your card, your story, our fragranceStep 4 - pilot small, then scale to 50, 100, 500 unitsWhatsApp the bulk desk for volume pricing
A customer gift works when it survives the drive home - sweets vanish in a day and keychains join a drawer, but a fragrance is used daily in the customer's own car or living room, replaying your brand at every use. The method: gift the milestone moment, set the per-unit band by customer value, brand the gesture with your card, pilot and scale. This guide walks the exact play, with real SOSA options at every band.
Straight answer
How do I estimate fragrance consumption for a spa operating 12 hours a day?
Do not estimate it. Measure it - because any estimate is a description of somebody's assumptions about your building, and the assumptions that matter are zone count, the setting in each zone, opening hours, climate and room size. The method takes four weeks and about ten minutes of admin. Step one: set the building properly first, because measuring a badly set spa gives you the cost of a mistake rather than a budget. Working level at reception, very low or nothing in corridors, lowest in treatment rooms set lying on the bed, lowest permanently in wet-adjacent spaces. Step two: on day one write down the date, every zone, its device, its register, its setting and the fill state of every bottle and tank. Step three: trade four normal weeks and adjust nothing - which is the hard part, because everybody inside adapts within about an hour and will want to turn things up. Step four: on day twenty-eight, record what you used. That is your real consumption. Then repeat it in the opposite season, because a humid month and a dry one are different buildings. One useful note about the twelve-hour day: hours and consumption are not proportional if you have timer control, since you can carry the working level through arrival hours and drop it when the floor is quiet. Hotel Collection from ₹299, SOSA Vaayu ₹11,999, SOSA Boond ₹799. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.
Quick answer: measure it over four weeks rather than accepting anybody's estimate, including ours.

Do not estimate it. Measure it

The honest answer to this question is that you should not estimate it, and that includes not accepting an estimate from us. Any consumption figure produced by a supplier is a description of that supplier's assumptions about five things they cannot see: how many zones you run, what level each is set to, how many hours you are open, what your climate does to the air, and how large and how ventilated each room is. Those five vary enormously between two spas of identical floor area in the same city, so a published figure is not a forecast, it is a guess wearing a decimal point. What you can do instead is measure, and the method is simple enough that there is no excuse for not having your own number. Step one, and it is the step that decides whether the exercise is worth anything: set the building properly before you measure it. Measuring a badly set spa tells you the running cost of a mistake. Getting it right means one register throughout the building varied only by level - working level at reception, because that is where a guest is alert and upright and forming an impression; very low or nothing in corridors, because a corridor is a conduit already receiving every treatment room's air at every turnover plus the wet zone's export; the lowest level in treatment rooms, set lying on the bed for two minutes rather than judged from the doorway, since a guest spends an hour nose-down in still air a few inches from a cradle and nobody else in your building is in that posture; the lowest working level permanently in wet-adjacent spaces such as changing areas and rooms with their own shower, because they are humid rooms all year; and nothing at all in steam rooms, saunas, shower interiors, back-of-house, laundry and staff areas. Step two: create the baseline record. On day one, write down the date and, for every zone, the device in it, the register, the setting, and the fill state of every bottle and tank. Photograph the bottles if that is easier than describing them. This page is worth having regardless of the measurement, because it is what you return to when levels drift. Step three: trade four normal weeks and adjust nothing. This is genuinely the hard part, and it fails more often than any other step, for a physiological reason. Everybody who works in a spa adapts to a steady background within about an hour of arriving and stops perceiving it, and adaptation is asymmetric - a level never seems to have grown, only to have gone. So during your measurement period somebody will sincerely believe the fragrance has stopped working and will want to top it up. Tell the team in advance that nothing is to be changed for four weeks and that a report of the scheme having faded is expected rather than alarming. Step four: on day twenty-eight, record what you used - bottles emptied or partly emptied, tanks refilled, drops added. That figure is your consumption at your settings in your building over four weeks of your trading. It is the only number worth planning against. Then step five, which most spas skip and which halves the value of the exercise if you skip it: repeat the measurement in the opposite season. A humid month and a dry one are effectively different buildings. Humid air carries fragrance more slowly and clears it less readily, so what is produced accumulates - which means you should be running lower settings in those months and will therefore be using less, not more. If your figures show the opposite, somebody has been turning things up in monsoon, which is the wrong response and worth catching. Now the twelve-hour question specifically, because it is in the title and the intuitive answer is wrong. Hours and consumption are not proportional if your hardware allows timed control. A spa open twelve hours is not busy for twelve hours - it is quiet in the late morning and full in the early evening, and consistency for a guest means that everybody who walks in receives the same thing, not that the machine runs identically at eleven and at seven. So a working level through arrival hours and a lower level when the floor is quiet gives you the same guest experience at a materially lower consumption. That is what Bluetooth app and timer control on a Vaayu at Rs 11,999 actually buys in a long-hours business - it is waterless with no tank at all, with coverage up to 1,000 square metres or roughly 10,700 square feet. For smaller spaces, a Megh at Rs 3,499 with its 6L tank means refilling is a weekly rather than a daily task, and a Sukoon at Rs 1,799 suits a compact reception or changing area. Reeds behave differently and are easier to forecast, which is a real advantage in a long-hours spa: they produce continuously whether you are open or shut, so their consumption is a function of calendar time rather than trading hours. A reed gives three to four months from a bottle, at Rs 749 to Rs 849 with refills at Rs 2,399 for 300ml and Rs 3,499 for 500ml, and the only variable that matters is temperature, since output rises with warmth and falls with cold - a warm room may not reach the full four months, and a heavily air-conditioned one may exceed it. So if your treatment rooms run on reeds, that half of your consumption is nearly predictable from the day you install them, and only the machine side needs measuring. A Boond at Rs 799 gives a treatment room a switch instead, which matters because anybody who works in a treatment room should have a physical off switch and never have to justify using it - and in a twelve-hour spa with back-to-back bookings, a therapist is in that room far longer than any guest. Three things reduce consumption without reducing quality, and all three are worth doing before you conclude your figure is too high. Level discipline, because most spas run higher than anybody chose - a written baseline with one named owner stops the upward ratchet. The seasonal reduction, because humid months need less rather than more. And not scenting what should not be scented: corridors usually need nothing, wet interiors never, back-of-house never. A spa that scents only its destinations spends materially less and reads better than one that hums everywhere. Machines take the water-based Hotel Collection at three to six drops per tank with a rinse between scents, and never reed oil, which can damage them. The registers are Rs 299 for 15ml, Rs 999 for 100ml and Rs 1,799 for 300ml, they are SOSA's own interpretations, and we are independent and not affiliated with, endorsed by or associated with any hotel brand. We make no therapeutic, medical or wellness claims of any kind, and SOSA ambient fragrance is for the air of a room only - never for skin, never in massage oil, and never added to masks, facial preparations or any treatment product. Everything is alcohol-free and made to IFRA-compliant standards, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Volume pricing is quoted against a zone list on WhatsApp rather than against a floor area.

Why this works
The four-week method
1 Set the building properly before measuring anything 2 Record every zone, setting and fill state on day one 3 Run four normal weeks and adjust nothing 4 Record again on day twenty-eight, then repeat off-season
The flagship delivery gift: the SOSA Safar at ₹3,999 - a rechargeable waterless car diffuser with three hotel-inspired scents in the box. Per-unit gifts from ₹299; volume pricing on WhatsApp.
01
Set it before you measure it
Or you are measuring a mistake
One register varied only by level, treatment rooms set lying on the bed, corridors very low or nothing, wet-adjacent lowest permanently, and nothing at all in wet interiors or back-of-house.
Tip: Then record every zone, setting and fill state on day one.
02
Four weeks, unadjusted
And warn the team in advance
This step fails more than any other, because everybody adapts within an hour and adaptation only runs one way. A report that the scheme has faded is expected during the period rather than alarming.
03
Then repeat off-season
And note that hours are not proportional
A humid month and a dry one are different buildings, and you should be using less in the wet one. Meanwhile a twelve-hour spa is not busy for twelve hours, so timed control cuts consumption without changing the guest experience.
Tip: Reeds are easier: their consumption follows the calendar, not the trading hours.
The SOSA principle
A published consumption figure is not a forecast.
It is a guess wearing a decimal point.

The SOSA business gifting edit

Whatever your business gifts, the logic is the same: gift the milestone moment, set the per-unit band by customer value, keep the register gentle and crowd-safe, and brand the gesture with your card rather than your logo on the product. Every SOSA fragrance is alcohol-free and made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali - so every customer gift quietly gives twice. Honest notes for business gifters: customer taste varies, so volume programmes should run gentle, crowd-tested registers - fresh, clean and lightly floral scents are received well across every profile, and space formats (diffusers, reeds, car fragrance) avoid the personal-taste risk of skin perfume entirely. Listed prices are per-unit store prices; volume pricing, pilot batches, branded cards and custom hamper builds are quoted on WhatsApp - and signature-scent development for your brand is a consultation with our perfumer, not an off-the-shelf item, so timelines are discussed case by case. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own interpretations inspired by the world's finest hotels; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house, not affiliated with any hotel brand. Ultrasonic diffusers use the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance; reed diffusers use their own alcohol-free reed oil - the two are not interchangeable. All personal fragrances are alcohol-free and IFRA-compliant. WhatsApp bulk desk: +91 96192 18531. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

A note from Sonal

Most customer gifts are bought to be handed over, not to be kept: the sweet box is finished by the family that evening, the keychain joins a drawer, the branded pen was never really a gift at all. Then the moment that cost your business lakhs to create - the new car, the new home, the big purchase - is remembered with nothing. A fragrance gift keeps that moment alive, because scent is the sense wired closest to memory: months later, your customer is still in the middle of the experience you gave them.

I trained at ISIPCA in Versailles and everything we make is built for Indian lives - car diffusers that survive a Mumbai summer, reed diffusers that hold through the monsoon, alcohol-free formulas safe to gift across every customer profile. If you run a dealership, a project, a hotel, a showroom or a team, message the bulk desk on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 - tell me the customer moment and the volumes, and I will help you design the programme myself. The business conversations are my favourite kind: one good gifting programme teaches me more about a category than a year of retail orders.

And a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali - so your customer gift quietly gives twice. That equation has always felt right to me.

Frequently asked questions

How do I estimate fragrance consumption for a 12-hour spa?
Measure rather than estimate. Set the building correctly, record every zone and fill state, run four weeks unadjusted, then record what you used.
Why not use a supplier's figure?
Because it describes assumptions about zone count, settings, hours, climate and room size, and your building differs on all of them.
Does a 12-hour day double consumption?
Not with timed control. A spa open twelve hours is not busy for twelve, so a working level through arrival hours and a lower one when quiet gives the same guest experience for less.
What is the hardest part of measuring?
Not adjusting anything for four weeks. Everybody inside adapts within an hour, so somebody will sincerely report that the scheme has faded.
Are reeds easier to forecast?
Yes. They produce continuously whether you are open or shut, so consumption follows the calendar rather than trading hours. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.

About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Product recommendations reflect the SOSA range; the customer-gifting advice applies whatever your business finally buys.

Facts verified August 2026: Olfactory memory research shows scent-linked memories are unusually durable and emotionally vivid, which is why a used-daily fragrance gift sustains brand association in a way consumable or novelty gifts do not; customer-experience research consistently finds that peak moments (delivery, possession, checkout) disproportionately shape how the whole purchase is remembered. Fragrance preference is personal: volume gifting programmes should default to gentle fresh, green and lightly floral registers, and to space formats (diffusers, reeds, car fragrance) rather than skin perfume. SOSA range: Hotel Collection ultrasonic fragrance from Rs 299; car perfumes from Rs 449 (spray and hanging, alcohol-free); attars Nawaab, Ameeri, Mastani and Adaa from Rs 379 (3ml/6ml/12ml, alcohol-free); Attar Trio from Rs 1,055; perfumes from Rs 499; reed diffusers from Rs 749; Boond Rs 799, Sukoon Rs 1,799 and Megh Rs 3,499 ultrasonic diffusers; SOSA Safar waterless car and travel diffuser Rs 3,999 (rechargeable, three hotel-inspired scents included); SOSA Vaayu waterless scent machine Rs 11,999 (~1000m³, app + timer).
