When an owner asks how to make the showroom smell more luxurious, they are usually holding a bottle. Put it down for a week. The most expensive-smelling appliance floors I have walked through smell, first, of nothing at all - and that is the work.
Quick answers — read this first
How can I make my appliance showroom smell more luxurious? Subtract before you add. A premium appliance floor smells of four things it should not: new plastic and packaging off-gassing, warm dust on the vents of running displays, cardboard in the back store, and air that was sealed overnight with the AC off. None of those is solved by fragrance; each has a cleaning, unboxing or ventilation fix. Once the floor smells of nothing, one dry register - cedar and sage, tea, or lemon-mint on a white floor - held a step below where you first set it, is what reads as luxury.
Why does adding a stronger fragrance make it smell less luxurious? Because fragrance over a wrong smell makes a third smell, and because luxury in the air is restraint. Expensive homes and good hotels do not smell of a fragrance; they smell of clean surfaces and moving air with something dry and quiet underneath that nobody can name. A showroom that announces its scent at the door reads as a perfume counter. Hard surfaces - steel, glass, stone - amplify whatever is in the air, so an appliance floor sits below a furniture floor.
What is the honest product answer? Nothing, until the floor passes the smells-of-nothing test. Then, under about 750 sq ft, one SOSA Mountain Breeze reed (Rs 849) or Morning Freshness reed (Rs 749) at the desk. From about 1,500 sq ft of connected floor, one SOSA Vaayu (Rs 11,999): waterless, so it adds no moisture and no residue; on a timer with a key-lock. From about 3,000 sq ft, one SOSA Angaan (Rs 25,999). Fragrance is an interiors decision like lighting; SOSA makes no claim that it changes footfall, dwell time or sales, and no claim about what it does to any appliance.
The short answer
Short answer: take four smells out first - new plastic and packaging, warm dust on vents, back-store cardboard, sealed overnight air - then add one dry register held low. Luxury in the air is mostly what is absent.
The pick: nothing until the floor smells of nothing; then a Mountain Breeze reed (₹849) at the desk under about 750 sq ft, one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) for a connected floor of roughly 1,500-3,000 sq ft, one SOSA Angaan (₹25,999) past that.
Next step: walk the floor at opening time and write down every smell you did not choose; send us the list with the plan and we will say what to fix and what, if anything, to add - ask for a showroom scenting plan.
How can I make my appliance showroom smell more luxurious?
By understanding that luxury, in the air, is mostly an absence. Walk into a house that is kept beautifully and try to name what it smells of. You cannot. It smells of clean surfaces, of wood that has been polished, of air that has moved recently, and of something dry and quiet underneath that you would not call a fragrance. Now walk into a mid-range electronics store. You can name that immediately: new plastic, warm dust, cardboard, the sealed-in air of yesterday afternoon. The difference between those two rooms is not that one has a better fragrance. It is that one has nothing wrong in it. So the first week of making a showroom smell more luxurious involves no fragrance at all. Subtract. Four smells account for nearly all of it on an appliance floor. New plastic and packaging off-gassing from displays that were unboxed on the floor: unbox in the back store, let new units air there for a day, and never leave film on a display. Warm dust on the vents and tops of running displays - fridges, ovens on demo, the backs of screens: clean the tops and vents weekly, not the fronts only. Cardboard in a back store that shares air with the floor: out, flattened, gone, or behind a door that closes. Sealed overnight air - the AC off at nine, the doors shut, a floor of plastic and electronics breathing into itself until ten the next morning: run fresh air for an hour before the doors open. None of those is a fragrance problem, none is solved by fragrance, and a fragrance over any of them produces a third smell that is worse than either. Why does my premium appliance showroom still smell like an electronics store works through the list. Then the test: stand in the middle of the floor at opening time and ask whether it smells of nothing in particular. If it does not, you are not ready. If it does, now the second half, and it is short. Add one dry register, held low. The instinct is to reach for something that smells expensive on a blotter - a sweet amber, a vanilla, an oud. On a floor of steel, glass and stone, every one of those reads as a perfume counter, and in a kitchen-appliance showroom anything edible competes with the hob. What reads as luxury is the register a well-kept home produces: cedar and sage, Mountain Breeze, on a floor of walnut, stone and dark glass; lemon and mint, Morning Freshness, on a white, handleless, glass one. Then the level, and this is where most floors overshoot. Hard surfaces bounce fragrance and nothing soft absorbs it, so the correct level is a step below where you first set it: noticed at the first display, forgotten by the specification table, and set for the advisor who breathes it nine hours rather than the visitor who breathes it for one. A scent anyone can name from the desk is not luxurious; it is loud. The product follows the floor size. Under about 750 sq ft, a Mountain Breeze or Morning Freshness reed at the desk (₹749-849), or a SOSA Sukoon (₹1,899) if you accept that a water-based unit adds a little moisture. From about 1,500 sq ft of connected floor, one SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999, waterless, so it adds no moisture and leaves no residue, with a timer and a key-lock so the low level stays low. Past about 3,000 sq ft, one SOSA Angaan at ₹25,999. And through all of it: fragrance is an interiors and hospitality decision, like lighting or music. SOSA makes no claim that it changes footfall, dwell time, conversion or sales, no claim about what it does to any appliance or finish on display, and it is never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or extraction. The demo kitchen and any tasting counter stay unscented. Ask for a showroom scenting plan and send the list of smells you did not choose.
Subtract first: plastic and packaging, warm dust on vents, back-store cardboard, sealed overnight air - none is a fragrance problem. Then one dry register held low: Mountain Breeze (Rs 849) at the desk, Vaayu (Rs 11,999) from about 1,500 sq ft, Angaan past 3,000. Luxury is what is absent.
Once the floor smells of nothing, one SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 carries one dry register across up to 1000m³ of connected floor, waterless, on a timer, key-locked at the low level you agreed. Before that, spend nothing.
Two honest answers by floor size, and neither is bought before the floor passes the smells-of-nothing test. The images link to the product pages so every figure can be checked.
Under about 750 sq ft - and the first thing to try anywhere
Himalayan pine, sage and Indian cedar - the driest scent SOSA makes, and the one that reads as a well-kept house rather than a fragrance. Alcohol-free, six fibre reeds, flip weekly. 50ml Rs 849 lasts 6-8 weeks at a reception desk; 130ml Rs 1,349 lasts 14-18 weeks. Reaches one desk zone - which, for a studio, is the whole answer.
Waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³ - about 2,000-3,000 sq ft - Rs 11,999. No water, so nothing added to the air of a room of steel and glass; adjustable intensity so the level can be set a step below the first guess; key-lock so it stays there; 1h/4h/8h/24h timer; under 38dB; wall or HVAC mount so it sits where the AC carries it.
1000m³ coverage (about 2,000-3,000 sq ft) on a single unit, Rs 11,999, adjustable intensity, 400ml tank running 90+ days a fill, Bluetooth app and 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, key-lock. Waterless - no moisture, no residue on displays. Wall or HVAC mount. CE, RoHS, SGS certified. Made in India.
In order. The first four cost cleaning time and discipline rather than money; the fifth is the only one that involves a product, and it is the smallest.
1
Unboxing
New plastic and packaging never meet the sales floor
The single largest contributor to the electronics-store smell is off-gassing: the protective film, foam and moulded plastic that arrive with every new unit, releasing their smell for days after unboxing. On most floors this happens in front of the customer, because the display was unboxed where it now stands. The fix is a rule, not a product: units are unboxed in the back store, film comes off there, and a new display airs for a day before it moves to the floor. Foam and film go straight into a sealed bin. If you have ever walked into a showroom the morning after a new range was installed and thought it smelled cheap, that was the reason, and no fragrance on earth would have covered it without producing a worse third smell. My new appliance showroom smells of plastic and packaging is the full routine.
Rule: if a customer can see the packaging, they can smell it. Back store, always.
2
Warm dust
Clean the tops and vents, not just the fronts
The second smell is warm dust: the faint scorched-paper note that comes off a running display when dust sits on its vents, its condenser grille or the top of its cabinet. Cleaning teams polish the fronts because fronts are what customers touch; the tops and backs of a fridge run, the vent of an oven on demo, the grille behind a screen are where the smell is made. Add the AC returns and any filter that has not been changed since the fit-out. A weekly pass over tops, vents and grilles, and a filter schedule for the plant, takes this out entirely. Why does my large appliance store smell dusty even after cleaning goes through the cleaning order.
Test: run a finger along the top of the tallest display. If it comes back grey, that is the smell.
3
Cardboard and sealed air
The back store and the overnight
Two more, quicker to fix. Cardboard in a back store that shares air with the floor - and most do, through an open door or a common return - reads as a warehouse from the moment the doors open. Flatten it, get it out daily, and if the store cannot leave, the door to it closes. Then the overnight: an appliance floor with the AC off and the doors shut breathes its own plastic and electronics into itself for twelve hours, and that is the air your first visitor meets. Run fresh air for an hour before opening, or leave the plant on a low overnight cycle if the building allows. Why does my appliance showroom smell stale when we open in the morning gives the pre-opening routine; ventilation vs fragrance in a new showroom gives the order of everything on this page.
Rule: the floor should smell of nothing at opening time. Until it does, do not buy a fragrance.
4
The register
One dry note that reads as a home, never as a fragrance
Only now the bottle, and the choice is narrower than a blotter suggests. Sweet amber, vanilla, oud and gourmand notes all smell expensive on paper and all read as a perfume counter on a floor of steel and glass; in a kitchen-appliance showroom anything edible also competes with the hob. Luxury in the air is what a well-kept home produces: Mountain Breeze - pine, sage and cedar - on walnut, stone and dark glass; Morning Freshness - lemon, mint and eucalyptus - on white lacquer and glass. Both are dry, neither announces itself, and either one held low is what makes a visitor think the building is simply well kept. Should a luxury appliance showroom smell like a beautiful home is the register argued in full, and what a premium home-appliance showroom should smell like sets the family's baseline.
Mountain Breeze - pine, sage and cedar. Dry enough to read as the building, not the bottle.
The last layer is the one that undoes the other four if it is wrong. An appliance floor is quartz, glass, lacquer and steel; there is no upholstery or carpet to absorb anything, so whatever is in the air stays in the air. The setting that is right for a furniture showroom is loud here. Set it with the floor team from the specification table at five in the afternoon, a step below the first guess, to the point where nobody standing at the desk could name it - and then lock it, because levels on a shop floor only ever drift upward. The adjustable intensity and key-lock on the Vaayu exist for exactly this. My showroom looks premium but doesn't smell premium is the audit for a floor that has done everything else and still misses.
The Vaayu sets low, locks there, runs on a timer and adds no water to the air.
An appliance showroom smells luxurious when nothing in the air was left there by accident, and the one thing put there on purpose cannot be named from the desk.
Subtract four smells. Add one dry register. Hold it a step below where you expect. The bottle is the smallest part.
The first thing to try, and the whole answer for a studio: Mountain Breeze, ₹849 for 50ml, at the reception desk - after the floor smells of nothing.
Smell by smell: what to subtract, and what replaces it
Here is the whole method as a table. The left column is what you smell now; the right is the fix, and only the last two rows involve anything SOSA sells.
The SOSA method
Subtraction first, then one dry register
What the floor smells of
The fix
New plastic, film, foam - a display unboxed on the floor
Unbox in the back store; film off there; a day to air before the unit moves to the floor. Not a fragrance problem, and fragrance over it makes a third smell.
Warm dust - a faint scorched note near running displays
Weekly pass over the tops, vents and grilles of every running unit; AC filters on a schedule. Cleaning, not scent.
Cardboard, a warehouse note from the back
Flatten and remove daily; close the door to the store. Ventilation and housekeeping.
Stale, sealed air at opening time
An hour of fresh air before the doors open, or a low overnight plant cycle. The floor must smell of nothing before anything is added.
Nothing in particular - the test passed
Now one dry register, held low: Mountain Breeze for walnut and stone, Morning Freshness for white and glass. A reed at the desk under about 750 sq ft. View →
A larger connected floor that has passed the test
One Vaayu from about 1,500 sq ft, waterless, set a step below the first guess, key-locked, off for the demo. View →
SOSA Vaayu ₹11,999 carries cedar-sage or lemon-mint across 1,500-3,000 sq ft once the floor smells of nothing. Send the plan and the list of smells; we will say what to fix first.
The most expensive-smelling floors I have stood on smelled of nothing, and then, if you stayed, of dry wood. Nobody had to be told which part was the fragrance.

The SOSA subtraction-first specification
What goes in after the wrong smells are out - sized to the floor
Between 750 and 1,500 sq ft a Vaayu is bought for control, no water and distribution - never for coverage. The four 100ml bottles in the Vaayu box are the supply; confirm refill availability with SOSA before you plan around it. Fragrance is an interiors and hospitality decision like lighting or music, with no claim about footfall, dwell time, conversion or sales, and no claim about what it does to any appliance or finish. It is never a mask and never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or extraction, and the demo kitchen and coffee counter stay unscented. Ask for a showroom scenting plan with your subtraction list.

A note from Sonal
I am asked this question more than any other in retail, and the owner asking it is almost always holding a bottle they bought somewhere. My first answer is to put it down for a week. Walk your own floor at ten in the morning, before the first customer, and write down every smell you did not choose. Plastic film on the new range. The warm-dust note off the back of the fridge wall. Cardboard through the store door. The flat, sealed air of last night. That list is the job. A perfumer cannot make a floor smell luxurious on top of it; I can only make it smell like an expensive candle in an electronics shop.
When the list is empty - genuinely empty, at opening time, on a Monday - the second half is smaller than anyone expects. One dry register, cedar and sage for the walnut floors and lemon and mint for the white ones, at a level a step below where the owner first sets it. I know it feels faint. It is meant to. The homes I have been in that smelled of money did not smell of a fragrance; they smelled of clean and dry, with something underneath that I, with my training, could just about name. Your visitor should not be able to. The Vaayu earns its place here because it sets low and locks there, and because on a floor of steel and glass I do not want water in the air.
So the plan costs nothing for a week and then a little. A Mountain Breeze reed at the desk under about 750 sq ft. One Vaayu at ₹11,999 from about 1,500 sq ft of connected floor, one Angaan past 3,000, off on the timer while the hob is lit. And the honest frame: an interiors decision like lighting or music, with no claim that fragrance moves footfall, dwell time or sales, and no claim about what it does to anything on display. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Frequently asked questions
What are the smells that stop an appliance showroom from smelling luxurious?
Four, and they account for nearly all of it. New plastic and packaging off-gassing from displays unboxed on the floor. Warm dust on the vents, grilles and tops of running units, which gives a faint scorched note. Cardboard in a back store that shares air with the floor. And sealed overnight air, when the AC is off and the floor breathes its own plastic into itself until morning. None is a fragrance problem, and a fragrance over any of them makes a third smell worse than either.
Should I add fragrance to my showroom before or after fixing the wrong smells?
After, always, and the test is simple: stand in the middle of the floor at opening time and ask whether it smells of nothing in particular. Until it does, spend nothing on fragrance. Unbox in the back store, clean the tops and vents of running displays weekly, get cardboard out daily, and run fresh air for an hour before the doors open. Once the floor passes, one dry register held low is the whole addition, and it is a much smaller step than the subtraction.
Which fragrance register reads as luxurious on an appliance floor?
The one a well-kept home produces rather than the one that smells expensive on a blotter. Sweet amber, vanilla, oud and gourmand notes read as a perfume counter against steel and glass, and anything edible competes with the hob in a kitchen showroom. Dry cedar and sage - SOSA Mountain Breeze - on walnut, stone and dark glass; lemon and mint - SOSA Morning Freshness - on white lacquer and glass. Both are quiet enough to read as the building rather than a bottle.
Why should the fragrance level be set below my first instinct on an appliance floor?
Because an appliance floor is built of surfaces that bounce fragrance and has nothing soft to absorb it: quartz worktops, glass splashbacks, lacquered fronts, steel appliances, tiled floors. A setting that is right in a furniture showroom is loud here, and a scent anyone can name from the desk is not luxurious. Set it with the floor team from the specification table at five in the afternoon, a step below the first guess, and lock it, because levels only ever drift upward.
Does a more luxurious-smelling showroom lead customers to spend more?
SOSA makes no such claim. Making an appliance floor smell luxurious is an interiors and hospitality decision, like the lighting temperature or the music, done because a showroom designed as a home should smell like one. It does not change footfall, dwell time, conversion or sales in any way SOSA will assert, and SOSA makes no claim about what fragrance does to any appliance, screen or finish on display. The only product fact is that a waterless machine adds no moisture and leaves no residue.
After the subtraction, one dry register, held low and locked: SOSA Vaayu, ₹11,999, waterless, for the sales floor.
