Almost every perfume review you have ever read measures two things. The first is sillage, which is how far the scent projects from your skin. The second is longevity, which is how many hours it lasts before fading below the perception threshold. These are useful numbers if you live in Paris.

They are not enough for India. There is a third variable that dominates everything else once relative humidity passes 65%, and most fragrance reviews never name it. The 85% RH problem with alcohol sprays

Alcohol perfumes - eau de parfum, eau de toilette, the entire spray category - are built on a simple delivery mechanism. The alcohol carrier evaporates fast off your skin, and the fragrance molecules trapped within it release as the alcohol disappears. In dry European air, this works exactly as the perfumer intended. The top notes flash off in the first 10 minutes, the heart notes bloom over the next 90, and the base notes settle for the rest of the day.
