Everything up to a 3BHK shares one assumption: the public zone is one room. Walk into a 4BHK and that assumption breaks. The entrance-level area is usually a sequence — a foyer, a living room, a dining area, sometimes a family lounge behind them — and a sequence is not one body of air served by one bottle. This is the first home size in this cluster where the answer to "how many for the living area" stops being automatically one, and getting that wrong is the single most common mistake in a house this size.
Quick answers — read this first
The setup: a Garden Bloom 130ml at the entrance end of the public zone at ₹1,299, an Evening Calm 50ml in the master at ₹799, a Mountain Breeze 50ml in bedroom two at ₹849, a Garden Bloom 50ml in bedroom three at ₹799, and a Morning Freshness 50ml in each of two bathrooms at ₹749 apiece. Six bottles, ₹5,244.

If the public zone runs long — over about 25 feet, past a full-height wall, or across a level change — it takes a second bottle of the same scent at a lower reed count, not a second fragrance. That pair alone is ₹2,098.

The fourth bedroom usually doesn't need one. Most 4BHKs sleep three, and a bottle in a room used four weekends a year goes stale before it goes noticeable.
The short answer
Short answer: six bottles for the standard case, five to eight depending on how the house is actually used. A 4BHK has a public zone (sometimes two zones), four bedrooms (typically three slept in), and two bathrooms. Each occupied stop gets its own bottle, sized and reeded to the space it sits in. ₹5,244 is the standard number.
The pick: Garden Bloom 130ml ₹1,299 at the entrance end of the public zone, Evening Calm 50ml ₹799 in the master, Mountain Breeze 50ml ₹849 in bedroom two, Garden Bloom 50ml ₹799 in bedroom three, and Morning Freshness 50ml ₹749 in each bathroom.
Do not buy: a bottle for the fourth bedroom before checking who actually sleeps in it, and do not buy a commercial diffusion machine at this size. A 4BHK is exactly where people start asking about machines like the Vaayu, and it is exactly the size those machines are wrong for — see the FAQ below.
Straight answer
What is the best reed diffuser setup for a 4BHK?
1. Start with the public zone, and check whether it is actually one zone. A Garden Bloom 130ml at ₹1,299 goes at the entrance end, all six reeds in. If the foyer, living and dining run past a full-height wall, a level change, or more than about 25 feet, add a Garden Bloom 50ml at ₹799 at the far end — same scent, fewer reeds. ₹2,098 for the zone when it needs the second bottle.

2. Give three of the four bedrooms a bottle, not automatically four. The master takes Evening Calm 50ml at ₹799, three reeds. Bedroom two takes Mountain Breeze 50ml at ₹849, three reeds. Bedroom three takes Garden Bloom 50ml at ₹799, three reeds. The fourth room only earns a bottle if someone is actually sleeping in it most weeks.

3. Both bathrooms, no shortcuts. Two Morning Freshness 50ml at ₹749 each, two to three reeds apiece. A house this size that scents one bathroom and skips the other has simply moved the mistake, not fixed it.

4. That is six bottles and ₹5,244 — the standard 4BHK kit, covering the public zone, three bedrooms and both bathrooms, with no wiring and nothing to switch off.

5. The ceiling is eight bottles at ₹7,342 — all four bedrooms slept in plus a closed kitchen. Past that, a house this size stops smelling of a fragrance and starts smelling of fragrance, which is the opposite of the effect anyone is paying for.

TL;DR: a 4BHK takes five to eight reed diffusers depending on how many bedrooms are actually slept in and whether the public zone splits. The standard case is six bottles at ₹5,244: a 130ml plus, if the zone runs long, a 50ml for the public area, a 50ml each for three bedrooms, and a 50ml each for two bathrooms. The ceiling is eight bottles at ₹7,342. Past that, stop.

The entrance-end bottle
SOSA Garden Bloom · 130ml ₹1,299
The bottle that meets a guest first, standing near the front door rather than centred in the living room. All six reeds, 14–18 weeks. If the zone runs on past the dining table, a second Garden Bloom in 50ml at ₹799 goes at the far end — same scent, fewer reeds, so the house reads as one composition rather than two. Refillable glass, alcohol-free CCT base. Refills from ₹2,399.

Why the public zone stops being one room at a 4BHK

In a 1BHK the living-dining is a box. In a 2BHK and 3BHK it is usually still a single continuous space, just a larger one. At a 4BHK it frequently isn't a box at all — it's a route. You come in through a foyer, that opens onto a formal living area, the living area opens onto a dining area, and in a growing number of layouts a family lounge sits behind all three, sometimes down a half-step, sometimes behind a wall that runs floor to ceiling. Builders draw this as one "public zone" on the plan. Air does not agree. A reed diffuser scents a soft radius around itself and nothing past that — no fan, no mist, oil climbing six fibre reeds by capillary action and evaporating off the tips. One bottle, however large, produces one radius. A 30-foot sequence of rooms needs two.

The test is not square footage — it never is with reed diffusers — it is whether the far end of the zone is a separate stop or still inside the first bottle's reach. Three conditions say separate stop: a full-height wall dividing the sequence rather than a half-wall or a change in flooring, a level change of even a single step, or a straight-line distance past about 25 feet between where the first bottle would sit and where people actually settle at the other end. Any one of those three, on its own, is enough. If none of them apply — an open plan that simply runs 22 feet with nothing dividing it — the 130ml still does the job alone, and a second bottle would be spending money to solve a problem the air doesn't have.

When a second bottle is warranted, the rule that matters more than the count is the scent. Use the same fragrance at both ends, at different bottle sizes and different reed counts, never two different fragrances. A house at this scale runs one register through its public rooms the way it runs one wall colour — a foyer that smells of rose and a family lounge fifteen feet past it that smells of coffee reads as two decorators who never met, not as two zones of one house. Garden Bloom 130ml at the entrance on all six reeds, Garden Bloom 50ml at the far end on four, is the pairing I give most often: full strength where the impression is formed, a lighter echo where people actually sit for longer stretches.

The three decisions in a 4BHK

1
DECISION ONE · IS THE PUBLIC ZONE ONE ROOM OR TWO
A full-height wall, a step, or 25 feet — any one is enough
SOSA Garden Bloom reed diffuser 50mlGarden Bloom 50ml₹799Most 4BHK public zones fall into one of two shapes: a single open plan that simply happens to be large, or a genuine sequence — foyer, living, dining, sometimes a family lounge — divided by a wall, a step, or plain distance. The first shape still takes one bottle; a 130ml on all six reeds reaches further than people expect when there's nothing in the way. The second shape needs two: the entrance-end 130ml at full strength, and a 50ml of the same fragrance at the far end running four reeds rather than six, since the far end is usually a room people sit in longer rather than pass through. Two bottles, one composition, ₹2,098 for the zone.
The test: if you can't see the far end from the front door, or there's a step or a full-height wall between them, that's two zones, not one.
2
DECISION TWO · WHICH OF THE FOUR BEDROOMS EARN A BOTTLE
Four bedrooms, almost never four sleepers
A 4BHK is sized for four bedrooms and almost never occupied that way. The typical pattern is a couple, one or two children, and a fourth room that has become a guest room, a home office, or simply storage with a bed in it. That room might see real use four weekends a year, or on the rare week a parent visits. A reed diffuser left running in it the other forty-eight weeks doesn't wait patiently — fibre reeds keep wicking whether or not anyone is in the room, the oil keeps evaporating, and a bottle nobody flips or notices runs past its useful window and starts smelling faintly stale rather than faintly of anything. That is the worst rupee spent in a large house: money paying for a smell nobody is there to register, going off unattended. Score each bedroom honestly — slept in most nights, it gets a bottle; used occasionally, it gets nothing until the week it's needed, at which point a bottle bought fresh and flipped daily for that one week does more than a bottle left running unattended for months ever would.
The rule: a bedroom slept in fewer than a few nights a week doesn't need a standing bottle — it needs one bought and flipped for the week it's actually used.
3
DECISION THREE · HOW MANY BATHROOMS YOU HONESTLY HAVE
Ensuites you barely use don't outrank the one everyone shares
Plenty of 4BHKs have three or even four bathrooms on paper — an ensuite off every bedroom — but daily traffic usually runs through two: the master ensuite and one common or guest bathroom near the shared bedrooms. A powder room off the entrance, used by every visitor who ever rings the doorbell, often deserves a bottle before a rarely-touched ensuite off an empty fourth bedroom does. The standard 4BHK kit assumes two bathrooms because that is what most of these homes actually run on day to day; if your household genuinely uses three bathrooms hard, the third follows the same rule as the first two — Morning Freshness 50ml, two to three reeds, ₹749 — and simply adds to the total rather than replacing anything.

The room-by-room plan for a 4BHK

A 4BHK carpet area typically runs 1,800–3,000 sq ft, but as with every home in this cluster the table below counts stopping points, not floor area. The public zone rows below assume a genuine sequence that warrants splitting; if yours is one open room under 25 feet with no wall or step in the way, drop the second public-zone row and treat it as a single 130ml stop, which is the more common case below the ceiling numbers quoted throughout this guide.

4BHK reed plan
Six to eight bottles depending on real occupancy
Room Bottle Reeds Cost
Public zone, entrance end ★ Garden Bloom 130ml — near the front door, not centred in the room All six · 14–18 weeks ₹1,299
Public zone, far end (only if it splits) Garden Bloom 50ml — same scent, a console or sideboard at the far seating area Four · 8–10 weeks ₹799 or ₹0
Master bedroom ★ Evening Calm 50ml — bedside table or dresser Three · 8–10 weeks ₹799
Bedroom two ★ Mountain Breeze 50ml — bedside table or dresser Three · 8–10 weeks ₹849
Bedroom three ★ Garden Bloom 50ml — bedside table or dresser Three · 8–10 weeks ₹799
Bedroom four (guest / office / store) Only if slept in most weeks — Fresh Brew 50ml if so, otherwise nothing standing Three, if used ₹849 or ₹0
Bathroom one ★ Morning Freshness 50ml — counter beside the basin Two to three · up to 12 weeks ₹749
Bathroom two ★ Morning Freshness 50ml — counter beside the basin Two to three · up to 12 weeks ₹749
Closed kitchen (if you have one) Optional Morning Freshness 130ml — the only family that holds up next to cooking All six ₹1,249 or ₹0
Passages, landings, staircase, balconies Nothing. Transit air and outdoor air, whatever the square footage, hold nothing long enough to justify a bottle — ₹0
Note on the ceiling: every row filled — split public zone, all four bedrooms, both bathrooms, closed kitchen — is nine bottles' worth of rooms, but the honest ceiling for this cluster is eight. In practice that means picking either the split public zone or the fourth bedroom, not stacking every optional row on top of every other one.

The standard 4BHK kit — public zone, three bedrooms, two bathrooms
The SOSA principle
A reed diffuser marks a place, not a plan. In a 4BHK the public zone can be one place or two — the layout decides, not the label on the floor plan.
Check the wall, the step and the distance before you buy the second bottle. Then buy it in the same scent, never a different one.

Reeds, flipping and where each bottle actually stands

Reed count does the fine-tuning that bottle size can't. The entrance-end 130ml runs all six reeds — it has to carry a first impression across the widest room in the house. A far-end public-zone 50ml, if you need one, runs four: enough to be present in a room people actually sit in, not enough to double the strength of the bottle fifteen feet away and turn the whole zone heavy. Each occupied bedroom runs three, the standard bedroom setting across this whole cluster — half the reeds of the public rooms, because a closed bedroom is a small sealed volume and six reeds in it reads as insistent rather than calm. Bathrooms run two to three, same as everywhere else; a 50ml on two reeds in a 50 sq ft bathroom comfortably clears ten weeks.

Flip every reed saturated-end up every three to five days, in every room, regardless of size — this is the one maintenance step that decides whether a bottle still smells of anything by week ten. A house with six to eight bottles running is easiest kept on a single day: pick a Sunday, walk the flat, flip every reed at once, and the whole house resets to the same starting strength together rather than drifting in and out of sync room by room. Skipping the flip is the single most common reason a reed diffuser "stops working" — the reed hasn't run dry, it has simply saturated on one end and stalled.

Placement matters more, not less, as the house gets bigger, because a large home has far more surfaces that look plausible and are wrong. Stand the entrance bottle on a console near the door rather than the centre of the living room, about a metre off the floor, clear of the ceiling fan's draught and out of direct sun through the entrance glazing. In bedrooms, the bedside table or dresser beats the windowsill for the same reason it always does — heat and sun both work against the oil. In bathrooms, the counter beside the basin, never inside the shower zone where steam and splash reach it. And in a house with more people moving through it — children, staff, visiting family — the reach-of-children-and-pets rule matters more, not less: every one of these bottles is oil in an open glass, and belongs above small hands and off any surface a spill would mark.

You are not scenting 2,400 square feet. You are scenting a console by the front door, a table at the far end of the dining, three bedside tables and two basins.

What a 4BHK reed setup actually costs

This is also the size of home where people start asking me about commercial fragrance machines instead — understandably, given how much square footage is now in play. The honest answer: SOSA's Vaayu at ₹11,999 and Aangan at ₹25,999 are waterless HVAC-integrated machines built for 8,000–10,000 sq ft — retail floors, lobbies, clinics — and putting one into a 2,000–3,000 sq ft home is genuine overkill, both on price and on the ducting a domestic house doesn't have. At 4BHK scale, the proportionate answer is the reed kit below, and ₹5,244 for the standard six bottles is a fraction of the machine's entry price for a result matched to the home you actually have.

Honest notes before you buy: the duo sets save a genuine but small ₹50 against the same two bottles bought separately — Day & Night ₹1,498, Fresh & Grounded ₹1,548, Warmth & Bloom ₹1,598, in 2 × 50ml, with 2 × 130ml versions at ₹2,498, ₹2,548 and ₹2,598 — buy a duo because you want both scents in two different rooms, not for the fifty rupees. Reed diffuser oil is not interchangeable with the water-based Hotel Collection used in ultrasonic machines such as the Sukoon — the two formulations must never be swapped between vessels. Every bottle here is oil in an open glass; keep all eight, if you run eight, out of reach of children and pets and off any surface a spill would mark. A note from Sonal

The 4BHK question sounds like a bigger version of every question before it, and mostly it isn't. What actually changes is that the public zone stops being a single answerable room. I've walked into homes where the entrance, the living room and the dining area run almost thirty feet in a straight line, and the owner has one bottle sitting exactly in the middle, doing its honest best for a radius that reaches about a third of the distance either way. That isn't a bad bottle. It's one bottle asked to do a job that needs two.

The other thing I say more in this size of home than any other is: don't scent the fourth bedroom yet. It is tempting to complete the set — four bedrooms, four bottles, tidy on paper. But a bottle running unattended in a room used four weekends a year isn't decoration, it's waste, quietly going stale while nobody's there to notice. Buy that bottle the week the guest arrives, not the month you moved in.

And when someone asks me whether they need a machine at this size, the answer is almost always no. The Vaayu and the Aangan exist for buildings ten times this size. Six bottles and ₹5,244 is the proportionate answer for a home, and proportion is worth more than scale. Every purchase funds a girl's education through Nanhi Kali — not a percentage, not a quarterly cheque. Every one.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best reed diffuser setup for a 4BHK?
Six bottles for the standard case: a Garden Bloom 130ml at ₹1,299 for the public zone, an Evening Calm 50ml at ₹799 for the master, a Mountain Breeze 50ml at ₹849 and a Garden Bloom 50ml at ₹799 for two more bedrooms, and two Morning Freshness 50ml at ₹749 each for both bathrooms. ₹5,244 in total. If the public zone runs long, a second Garden Bloom 50ml at the far end takes the count to seven bottles and ₹6,043.
How many reed diffusers does a 4BHK need?
Between five and eight, depending on real occupancy. Five covers the public zone as one room, three bedrooms and one bathroom at ₹4,495. Six, the standard, adds a second bathroom for ₹5,244. Seven adds the fourth bedroom, if it's genuinely slept in, for ₹6,093. Eight — the ceiling for this size of home — adds a closed kitchen for ₹7,342. Past eight, a 4BHK stops smelling of a fragrance and starts smelling of fragrance, which is worse, not better.
Does every bedroom in a 4BHK need its own reed diffuser?
No. Most 4BHKs sleep three, and the fourth room is commonly a guest room, an office or a store. Score each bedroom by how many nights a week it's actually slept in — a room used most nights gets a standing bottle; a room used a handful of weekends a year is better served by a fresh bottle bought and flipped for the week it's needed than by one running unattended for months, going stale before anyone's there to notice.
When does the public zone in a 4BHK need two reed diffusers instead of one?
When any one of three things is true: a full-height wall divides the sequence, there's a level change of even one step, or the straight-line distance between the two ends runs past roughly 25 feet. If none of those apply, a single 130ml on all six reeds still covers the zone. When a second bottle is warranted, use the same scent at both ends, at different bottle sizes and reed counts — two different fragrances in one continuous public space reads as unresolved, not as two zones done well.
Should a 4BHK use a diffusion machine like the Vaayu instead of reed diffusers?
Almost never. SOSA's Vaayu at ₹11,999 and Aangan at ₹25,999 are waterless, HVAC-integrated machines built for 8,000–10,000 sq ft commercial spaces. A 4BHK, typically 1,800–3,000 sq ft, is genuinely too small for either to make sense on cost or on installation. The proportionate answer at this size is the reed kit — ₹5,244 for the standard six bottles, no ducting, nothing to install.
