Scenting has two deadlines in a project, and only one of them is the one everybody thinks about.
Quick answers — read this first
At what stage of an interior project should scenting be planned? Twice. Positions and power at the electrical and joinery stage, because those are irreversible. The register itself right at the end, because it costs nothing to change.

What is the early decision exactly? Where a machine will stand in each open volume, and whether it needs a socket there. That is a two-minute mark-up on a drawing that cannot be added later without chasing walls.

Can the scent itself be chosen early? It can, but there is no advantage. A bottle can be swapped in a minute, so the register is the one part of this layer that should be decided last.
The short answer
Short answer: Positions and power early and irreversibly; the register last, because it changes for nothing.
The pick: the SOSA Safar (₹3,999) as the flagship delivery gift; volume gifts from ₹299; reed diffusers from ₹749; the Vaayu (₹11,999) for your own premises.
Planning volumes? WhatsApp +91 96192 18531 - tell us the customer moment, per-unit band and quantity and we will quote and build the programme.
Customer gifting that compounds - the SOSA method at a glanceStep 1 - gift the moment: delivery day, possession, checkout, milestone purchaseStep 2 - set the per-unit band: ₹299 to ₹3,999 by customer valueStep 3 - brand the gesture: your card, your story, our fragranceStep 4 - pilot small, then scale to 50, 100, 500 unitsWhatsApp the bulk desk for volume pricing
A customer gift works when it survives the drive home - sweets vanish in a day and keychains join a drawer, but a fragrance is used daily in the customer's own car or living room, replaying your brand at every use. The method: gift the milestone moment, set the per-unit band by customer value, brand the gesture with your card, pilot and scale. This guide walks the exact play, with real SOSA options at every band.
Straight answer
At what stage of an interior project should scenting be planned?
Twice - and the deadline people miss is the early one. Deadline one, at the electrical and joinery stage: positions and power. Where does a machine stand in each open volume, and is there a socket there? That is a two-minute mark-up on a drawing and it is effectively irreversible once walls are closed and joinery is made - adding it later means a chased wall or a visible cable across a console. Deadline two, at handover: the register. Which scent, at what level. That one is reversible for the price of a bottle, so there is no benefit whatsoever in deciding it early. Almost every practice does this backwards - agonises over the scent months out, and never marks a single position. What to mark at the early stage: one position per connected volume, on hard surface, in the path of air movement, away from the largest soft furnishing and not at an AC grille. And note how little you actually need - every room behind a closed door takes a reed, which needs no power at all, so most of the plan requires nothing from the electrical drawing. Hotel Collection from ₹299, Vaayu ₹11,999, reeds from ₹749. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.
Quick answer: positions and power early, register at handover. Most people do exactly the reverse.
The gift most business readers of this guide pilot first: the SOSA Safar - rechargeable waterless car diffuser, three hotel-inspired scents in the box, used by the customer every single day - at ₹3,999 per unit. Volume gifts from ₹299; reeds from ₹749. Or WhatsApp +91 96192 18531 for a bulk quote.

Two deadlines, and people only remember the second

Scenting has two deadlines in a project and they sit at opposite ends of the programme, which is why it is so often planned badly. Almost every practice thinks about this layer once, near completion, and the thing they think about is which scent to use. That is the wrong deadline to worry about, because it is the reversible one. The deadline that actually binds is much earlier and much smaller, and it takes about two minutes. Deadline one is at the electrical and joinery stage: positions and power. The questions are where a machine will stand in each connected volume, and whether there is a socket at that position. That is it. Once the walls are closed, the plaster is on and the joinery has been made, adding a socket means chasing a wall, and not adding it means a visible cable running across a console in a room where everything else has been detailed to the millimetre. Neither is acceptable in a premium project, so the position either goes on the drawing at the right moment or the room ends up with a compromise. It is also worth marking on the joinery drawings if a machine is intended to sit inside or on a piece of built-in furniture, because a shelf that is fifty millimetres too shallow makes the whole position unusable. Deadline two is at handover: the register, and the level. Which of the seven Hotel Collection scents, and how strongly it runs. There is no advantage at all in deciding that early. A bottle can be swapped in a minute, the client's taste may shift once they are living in the space, and a register chosen against a mood board sometimes reads differently in the built room. So decide it last, deliberately, and treat it as a live decision rather than a locked one. Now what to actually mark at the early stage, because the list is short. One position per connected volume - not per room, per volume, because a machine distributes through connected moving air and cannot cross a closed door, so an open living, dining and circulation space is one problem while every bedroom, study, dressing room and bathroom behind a door is its own. That single rule collapses most homes to one or two machine positions. The position itself follows three placement rules: on hard surface rather than beside a large soft piece, because textiles absorb fragrance and load over days so a source next to a velvet sofa makes that corner progressively stronger; in the path of general air movement, because air is what actually distributes fragrance; and not directly at an air conditioning grille, where it is either pulled away before doing anything in the room or spread far more widely than the position suggests. Height matters in stone-floored rooms specifically, because stone stays cooler than the air above it and warm air rises, so a source at floor level distributes poorly and a console or shelf works far better. Then there is the part that reduces the electrical work dramatically, and it is worth saying to a client and to a contractor early: most of the plan needs no power at all. Every room behind a closed door is best served by a reed diffuser, which needs no socket, no scheduling and no attention, and which runs continuously at a low level - which is exactly the behaviour a bedroom or a bathroom wants. Garden Bloom and Evening Calm are Rs 799, Morning Freshness Rs 749, and Fresh Brew and Mountain Breeze Rs 849, with each bottle lasting three to four months and refills at Rs 2,399 for 300ml and Rs 3,499 for 500ml, roughly Rs 200 to Rs 280 per room per month. So a four-bedroom home might need one machine position on the electrical drawing and nothing else. There is a third piece of timing that is not a deadline but a sequence, and it belongs in the programme rather than in a drawing: do not scent a space that is still curing. New paint, sealers, adhesives, engineered board, veneer and new coated upholstery all off-gas for weeks after installation, and fragrance layered over that combines with it rather than masking it, producing something worse than either alone. Ventilate through that period, and bring fragrance in as the genuinely last layer, after the site clean and after the building has been aired. If the client is moving in immediately, say plainly that this is a curing period rather than a defect, and hold the fragrance back. On systems where a machine is required, the Vaayu at Rs 11,999 covers a large open volume - waterless with no tank, coverage up to 1,000 square metres or roughly 10,700 square feet, with Bluetooth app and timer control, which is what makes a low continuous setting practical and which also matters on a project you will not revisit. The Megh at Rs 3,499 has a 6L tank for a substantial area, the Sukoon at Rs 1,799 covers a single room and the Boond at Rs 799 a small one. Machines take the water-based Hotel Collection only at three to six drops per tank with a rinse between scents, never reed oil, which can damage them, and that instruction belongs in the handover pack rather than in a conversation. One register throughout the home, varied by intensity rather than by scent. The exclusions belong on the drawing too, marked as such: never the kitchen at any time, because cooking smell is aerosolised oil and extraction is the answer; no fragrance in children's rooms; a covered terrace, balcony or verandah cannot hold fragrance because the air is not enclosed, so mark it excluded rather than leaving the question open; staff quarters and utility areas get nothing; and anybody who shares the home and cannot leave it gets a low neutral register and a physical off switch, not an app-only one. We make no claim that fragrance affects mood, focus, sleep, stress or wellbeing. Everything is alcohol-free and made to IFRA-compliant standards, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Volume pricing across a project is quoted against the specification on WhatsApp.

Why this works
The two deadlines
1 Early: power points and joinery positions. Irreversible 2 Late: the register itself. Reversible any time, cheaply 3 People plan the second and miss the first entirely 4 So mark positions at the electrical stage, choose scent at handover
The flagship delivery gift: the SOSA Safar at ₹3,999 - a rechargeable waterless car diffuser with three hotel-inspired scents in the box. Per-unit gifts from ₹299; volume pricing on WhatsApp.
01
The early deadline is tiny
Positions and power, at the electrical stage
Where a machine stands in each connected volume, and whether there is a socket there. Two minutes on a drawing - and after the walls close it means a chased wall or a visible cable.
Tip: Mark it on the joinery drawings too, if it sits in built-in furniture.
02
The late deadline is free
The register changes for the price of a bottle
There is no advantage in choosing a scent early. Taste shifts once a client is living in the space, and a register chosen against a mood board can read differently in the built room.
03
Most of the plan needs no power
Closed rooms take reeds
A machine cannot cross a closed door, so each bedroom, study and bathroom is its own problem - and a reed needs no socket, no scheduling and no attention, which is exactly what those rooms want.
Tip: A four-bedroom home may need one machine position and nothing else.
The SOSA principle
Practices agonise over the scent months out and never mark a single position.
It is exactly the wrong way round.

The early one is the one that matters

Scenting has two deadlines at opposite ends of a programme, and the one everybody thinks about is the reversible one. The early deadline sits at the electrical and joinery stage and is tiny: where does a machine stand in each connected volume, and is there a socket there. Two minutes on a drawing - and once the walls are closed and the joinery made, adding it means a chased wall or a visible cable across a console, neither acceptable in a premium project. Mark it on joinery drawings too if a machine sits in built-in furniture, because a shelf fifty millimetres too shallow makes the position unusable. That changes for the price of a bottle, so decide it last, and treat it as a live decision - taste shifts once a client is living in the space, and a register chosen against a mood board can read differently in the built room. What to mark early is short: one position per connected volume rather than per room, because a machine distributes through connected moving air and cannot cross a closed door, which collapses most homes to one or two positions. Where a machine is needed, the SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999 covers a large open volume, waterless with coverage to 1,000 m² and app and timer control; the SOSA Megh at Rs 3,499 with a 6L tank; the SOSA Sukoon at Rs 1,799; the SOSA Boond at Rs 799. The SOSA business gifting edit

Whatever your business gifts, the logic is the same: gift the milestone moment, set the per-unit band by customer value, keep the register gentle and crowd-safe, and brand the gesture with your card rather than your logo on the product. Every SOSA fragrance is alcohol-free and made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali - so every customer gift quietly gives twice. Here is the full business range by per-unit band.

Honest notes for business gifters: customer taste varies, so volume programmes should run gentle, crowd-tested registers - fresh, clean and lightly floral scents are received well across every profile, and space formats (diffusers, reeds, car fragrance) avoid the personal-taste risk of skin perfume entirely. Listed prices are per-unit store prices; volume pricing, pilot batches, branded cards and custom hamper builds are quoted on WhatsApp - and signature-scent development for your brand is a consultation with our perfumer, not an off-the-shelf item, so timelines are discussed case by case. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own interpretations inspired by the world's finest hotels; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house, not affiliated with any hotel brand. Ultrasonic diffusers use the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance; reed diffusers use their own alcohol-free reed oil - the two are not interchangeable. All personal fragrances are alcohol-free and IFRA-compliant. WhatsApp bulk desk: +91 96192 18531. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Versailles
A note from Sonal

Most customer gifts are bought to be handed over, not to be kept: the sweet box is finished by the family that evening, the keychain joins a drawer, the branded pen was never really a gift at all. Then the moment that cost your business lakhs to create - the new car, the new home, the big purchase - is remembered with nothing. A fragrance gift keeps that moment alive, because scent is the sense wired closest to memory: months later, your customer is still in the middle of the experience you gave them.

I trained at ISIPCA in Versailles and everything we make is built for Indian lives - car diffusers that survive a Mumbai summer, reed diffusers that hold through the monsoon, alcohol-free formulas safe to gift across every customer profile. If you run a dealership, a project, a hotel, a showroom or a team, message the bulk desk on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 - tell me the customer moment and the volumes, and I will help you design the programme myself. The business conversations are my favourite kind: one good gifting programme teaches me more about a category than a year of retail orders.

And a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali - so your customer gift quietly gives twice. That equation has always felt right to me.

Frequently asked questions

At what stage should scenting be planned?
Twice. Positions and power at the electrical and joinery stage, because those are irreversible, and the register itself at handover, because it changes for the price of a bottle.
What exactly needs to be on the early drawing?
One machine position per connected volume, with a socket if required - on hard surface, in the path of air movement, and not at an air conditioning grille.
How much of the plan needs power?
Usually very little. Every room behind a closed door takes a reed, which needs no socket at all, so a four-bedroom home may need one machine position and nothing else.
Should the scent be chosen early?
There is no advantage. Choose it last, because taste shifts once the client is living in the space and a bottle can be swapped in a minute.
When should fragrance actually be introduced?
After the site clean and after the building has been aired, because new paint, sealers and adhesives off-gas for weeks and fragrance combines with that. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.

About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Product recommendations reflect the SOSA range; the customer-gifting advice applies whatever your business finally buys.

Facts verified August 2026: Olfactory memory research shows scent-linked memories are unusually durable and emotionally vivid, which is why a used-daily fragrance gift sustains brand association in a way consumable or novelty gifts do not; customer-experience research consistently finds that peak moments (delivery, possession, checkout) disproportionately shape how the whole purchase is remembered. Fragrance preference is personal: volume gifting programmes should default to gentle fresh, green and lightly floral registers, and to space formats (diffusers, reeds, car fragrance) rather than skin perfume. SOSA range: Hotel Collection ultrasonic fragrance from Rs 299; car perfumes from Rs 449 (spray and hanging, alcohol-free); attars Nawaab, Ameeri, Mastani and Adaa from Rs 379 (3ml/6ml/12ml, alcohol-free); Attar Trio from Rs 1,055; perfumes from Rs 499; reed diffusers from Rs 749; Boond Rs 799, Sukoon Rs 1,799 and Megh Rs 3,499 ultrasonic diffusers; SOSA Safar waterless car and travel diffuser Rs 3,999 (rechargeable, three hotel-inspired scents included); SOSA Vaayu waterless scent machine Rs 11,999 (~1000m³, app + timer).
