This is the question I most enjoy answering, because nothing is wrong. The reed is performing exactly to its physics, the showroom is behaving exactly as a large volume of air behaves, and the only faulty component is the expectation somebody sold along with the bottle.
Quick answers — read this first
Why do my reeds work at the counter but not across the store? Because a reed's reach is set by how much reed surface is exposed and how much air moves past it - not by how much oil is in the bottle. Oil climbs the fibre by capillary action and evaporates from the few centimetres standing above the neck. That is a small, steady rate of delivery into whatever volume of air surrounds it. At a billing desk your customer is standing within a metre of that surface for a minute or two, in relatively still air. Ten metres away, in a showroom, there is simply nothing arriving.
Will a bigger bottle fix it? No, and this is the single most useful sentence on the page. A bigger bottle buys you months, not metres. A 50ml Mountain Breeze at ₹849 runs six to eight weeks and a 130ml at ₹1,349 runs fourteen to eighteen; the reach on both is identical, because the reach is decided at the top of the reeds and not in the reservoir. The same applies to the 300ml and 500ml refills, which are oil only and buy duration. Nobody has ever solved a showroom by ordering a larger bottle, though a great many people have tried.
So what should I actually do? One of three things, and two of them are cheap. Keep the reed where it works and accept that the showroom is unscented - a completely respectable answer, and the right one for a small boutique. Or add reeds at genuine intervals, which helps a little and starts to look like a compromise. Or, if the trading floor really warrants it, buy a machine: a Sukoon at ₹1,899 up to about 750 sq ft, a Vaayu at ₹11,999 past about 1,500.
The short answer
Short answer: because a reed's reach is set by the exposed surface of the reeds and the air moving past them, not by the volume of oil in the bottle. It delivers a small steady rate into the air immediately around it, which is plenty at a desk where a customer stands within a metre and nothing at all across a showroom. A bigger bottle buys months rather than metres.
The pick: keep the Mountain Breeze reed (₹849) exactly where it already works, and only add a SOSA Sukoon (₹1,899) or a SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) if the showroom itself genuinely warrants one.
Next step: tell us the showroom's floor area and ceiling height and where the reeds are standing now, and we will tell you whether you have a reed problem, a placement problem or no problem at all - Ask for a retail scenting plan.
Nothing is faulty here. A reed is doing precisely what a reed does, and the mismatch is between its physics and what somebody implied when they sold it.

Why do reed diffusers work near the billing desk but not across my watch showroom?
Because a reed is a volume control and not a range control, and almost nobody is told that at the point of sale. Here is the mechanism. Oil travels up a fibre reed by capillary action and evaporates from the few centimetres of reed standing above the neck of the bottle. The rate at which fragrance enters the room is therefore set by two things: how much reed surface is exposed, and how much air is moving past it. It is not set by how much oil is underneath. That is why a 50ml Mountain Breeze at ₹849 lasts six to eight weeks and a 130ml at ₹1,349 lasts fourteen to eighteen, while smelling identical from the same distance on day one. A bigger bottle buys you months, not metres. The same is true of the 300ml and 500ml refills, which are oil only: more duration, not more reach. Now put that against the two situations you have described. At a billing desk, a customer stands still within about a metre of the reeds for a minute or two while a transaction is completed, in a pocket of relatively undisturbed air. A small steady delivery is exactly the right size of intervention there, and it works beautifully. In the showroom, the same rate of delivery is entering a volume that might be a couple of hundred cubic metres, with air conditioning moving through it and a door exchanging it, and the nearest customer is five or ten metres from the source. There is nothing arriving because there is nothing like enough of it to arrive. This is physics rather than a defective product, and it is why a shop that adds a second bottle at the same spot notices nothing and a shop that orders the large size notices nothing either. What genuinely changes reach is more exposed reed surface distributed through the space - which means more bottles at real intervals, not a bigger one in the same place - and that stops being elegant or economical quite quickly across a trading floor. So there are three honest answers and I would like you to take the first one seriously. Keep the reed where it works and let the showroom be unscented. For a small boutique, a store where the counter is where people linger, or an owner who does not want a schedule to run, that is a complete and respectable answer and it costs you ₹849 every couple of months. Second, add reeds at genuine intervals if there are two or three distinct pockets - a lounge, a desk, a small mezzanine - where people actually stop. Third, if the trading floor itself is what you want to hold, buy a machine, because that is a different tool for a different job: a SOSA Sukoon at ₹1,899 up to about 750 sq ft, or a SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 past about 1,500. And whichever you choose, ambient scent is never used to deal with another smell - if the reason you want the showroom covered is that something in it smells wrong, that is a source to find rather than a product to buy. Ask for a retail scenting plan and tell us the floor area and ceiling height.
Reach comes from exposed reed surface and moving air, not from the bottle, so a bigger bottle buys months rather than metres. Keep the reed where it works. Buy a machine only if the showroom itself is the thing you want to hold.
The reed itself is SOSA Mountain Breeze - Himalayan pine, sage and cedar, alcohol-free and phthalate-free on a coconut-derived base, six fibre reeds to flip weekly, 50ml lasting 6-8 weeks at ₹849 and 130ml lasting 14-18 weeks at ₹1,349. Perfect at a desk or in a lounge. It will not hold a showroom and I would rather say so.
The reed is not the wrong product; it is the right product for a metre or two. What follows is the reed and the smallest honest machine above it, and plenty of readers should stop at the first card. The images link to the product pages.
Alcohol-free reed diffuser, Himalayan pine with sage and cedar - a dry, wooded register that suits a watch boutique and stays well clear of anything sweet. 50ml lasts 6-8 weeks at ₹849, 130ml lasts 14-18 weeks at ₹1,349, six fibre reeds flipped weekly. Duration scales with the bottle; reach does not.
Ultrasonic cool-mist diffuser covering roughly 270-320 sq ft, supplied with three 15ml fragrances. The first honest step up from a reed at ₹1,899, and for a single-room boutique it is usually the whole answer. Past about 1,500 sq ft the answer becomes a Vaayu at ₹11,999 instead.
Alcohol-free reed diffuser, Himalayan pine with sage and cedar, 50ml lasting 6-8 weeks and 130ml lasting 14-18 weeks. Phthalate-free on a coconut-derived base, six fibre reeds, flipped weekly. Refills are available at 300ml and 500ml, oil only - which buys duration rather than distance. Made in India.
Three factors, and the bottle size is not one of them. Once these are clear, the buying decision makes itself.
1
Count the exposed reed, not the millilitres
Delivery happens on a few centimetres of fibre, and nowhere else
Oil climbs the reed and evaporates from the length standing above the neck. That exposed length, multiplied by the number of reeds, is your entire delivery surface, and it is roughly the size of a few matchsticks. Flipping the reeds weekly refreshes it, and using all six rather than three gives you meaningfully more than using half of them - but you are still working with a surface measured in centimetres. Everything below the neck is storage. That is why the 130ml bottle at ₹1,349 lasts more than twice as long as the 50ml at ₹849 without reaching a single step further into the room.
Tip: If you want a little more from a reed, use all six and flip them weekly. That is the only dial it has.
One Mountain Breeze reed diffuser ₹849, set once and left alone, is the whole hardware side of this.
A desk is a cubic metre of still air; a showroom is a few hundred
This is where the mismatch becomes obvious rather than mysterious. A billing desk is a small pocket, the customer is within a metre, the air there is relatively undisturbed, and they stand still in it for a minute or two - four conditions that suit a small steady source perfectly. A showroom of a thousand square feet with a ten-foot ceiling is roughly two hundred and eighty cubic metres, air-conditioned, with a door exchanging it all day and customers standing five to ten metres from the bottle. The same rate of delivery is simply diluted into something a hundred times bigger and moved along before it arrives. Nothing is wrong with the product. The room is the wrong size for it.
Tip: Measure floor area and ceiling height before you buy anything. You scent volume, not floor area.
One Sukoon ₹1,899, set once and left alone, is the whole hardware side of this.
Decide whether the showroom actually needs holding
Keeping the reed at the desk and stopping is a legitimate answer
Before you spend anything, ask what you are trying to achieve. If your customers stop at the counter and at a seating area, and those two places already read the way you want, then adding a machine buys you air in the parts of the store people walk through rather than dwell in. Plenty of boutiques should keep two reeds and stop reading here - total spend ₹849 to ₹1,698, and no schedule to run. If the showroom genuinely is where the experience lives, then buy the right tool for it: a Sukoon at ₹1,899, or a Vaayu at ₹11,999 on a large floor.
Tip: Stand where your customers stand longest. Scent the places people stop, not the places they cross.
One Vaayu ₹11,999, set once and left alone, is the whole hardware side of this.
A reed is a volume control, not a range control - the bottle decides how long it lasts and the exposed reeds decide how far it goes, and no amount of the first ever becomes the second.
Which makes a reed the right answer for a desk, a lounge or a small room, and the wrong answer for a trading floor, at any price.
Dry, wooded, and right for a counter: SOSA Mountain Breeze reed is Himalayan pine, sage and cedar, 50ml for ₹849 lasting 6-8 weeks, six reeds flipped weekly.
A brighter room, the same physics: SOSA Morning Freshness reed at ₹749 suits white and glass interiors, and reaches exactly as far as any other reed - which is to say, about a metre.
Nobody has ever solved a showroom with a bigger bottle. The bottle decides how long, the reeds decide how far, and the reeds are a few centimetres of fibre.

Why the reed is not the thing that failed
A small steady source, doing exactly what a small steady source does
Three honest answers here, and the cheapest of them is the right one more often than a supplier would like to admit. Reed refills come in 300ml and 500ml, oil only, which buys duration rather than distance; and on the machines, cold-air refill oil is not currently sold separately, so a Vaayu's 400ml runs 90+ days a fill and further supply should be confirmed with SOSA before a rollout. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
The SOSA watch-boutique specification
The reed where a reed belongs, and a machine only above it
Buy by what you are trying to hold, not by how disappointed the reed has made you. Ambient scent here is a presentation decision like lighting or case layout; it is never used to deal with another smell, and it is never a substitute for cleaning or ventilation. If the reason you want the showroom held is that something in it smells wrong, find that source first and spend nothing. And no one can promise you that ambient scent moves footfall, dwell or spend. Ask for a retail scenting plan before you spend anything.

A note from Sonal
Whenever someone tells me their reeds have stopped working across the showroom, my first question is whether they were ever working across the showroom, and the answer is almost always no - the store simply had a period of not noticing. Nothing has degraded. A reed does one thing: it lifts oil up a fibre and lets it evaporate from a few centimetres of exposed reed. That is a small, steady, entirely honest rate of delivery, and it is beautifully matched to a desk where somebody stands within a metre for two minutes.
The mistake is almost always made at the point of purchase, by whoever implied that a larger bottle would go further. It will not. The reservoir decides how many weeks you get; the exposed reed decides how far it reaches. Fifty millilitres at ₹849 and a hundred and thirty at ₹1,349 smell the same from the same distance on the day you open them, and the refills - three hundred and five hundred millilitres, oil only - are duration too. I would rather you knew that before you ordered a second one in the hope of covering the floor.
So there are three answers and I would genuinely like you to consider the cheapest. Keep the reed at the counter, put a second one where people sit, and let the showroom be a room rather than a fragrance - many boutiques should do exactly that and spend under two thousand rupees a season. If the trading floor itself is the thing you want to hold, then a reed is the wrong tool and no version of it will become the right one: that is a Sukoon at ₹1,899 up to about 750 sq ft, or a Vaayu at ₹11,999 past about 1,500. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Frequently asked questions
Why do reed diffusers work near the billing desk but not across my watch showroom?
Because a reed's reach is set by the exposed surface of the reeds and the air moving past them, not by the volume of oil in the bottle. Oil climbs the fibre and evaporates from a few centimetres of reed, which is a small steady delivery. That is well matched to a customer standing within a metre at a counter, and it is nothing at all across a few hundred cubic metres of air-conditioned showroom with a door exchanging the air all day.
Will a bigger bottle of reed oil cover more of my store?
No. A bigger bottle buys months rather than metres. A 50ml Mountain Breeze at Rs 849 lasts six to eight weeks and a 130ml at Rs 1,349 lasts fourteen to eighteen, and both smell the same from the same distance on day one. The 300ml and 500ml refills are oil only and buy duration too. Reach is decided at the top of the reeds; everything below the neck is storage.
Can I put more reeds out to cover a showroom?
More exposed reed surface does increase delivery a little, so using all six reeds rather than three and flipping them weekly is worth doing. Distributing extra bottles at genuine intervals - a desk, a seating corner, a small mezzanine - also works, because you are adding sources rather than oil. What does not work is a bigger bottle in the same place, and at showroom scale the bottle approach stops being either elegant or economical.
Is it acceptable to leave the showroom unscented?
Completely, and for a lot of boutiques it is the right answer. If your customers stop at the counter and at a seating area and those already read the way you want, a machine mainly buys you air in the parts of the store people walk through rather than linger in. Two reeds at Rs 849 each, flipped weekly, with no schedule to run, is a finished and respectable system that many stores should stop at.
When should a store move from reeds to a machine?
When the trading floor itself is the thing you want to hold rather than a counter or a lounge, and when you want a fixed level on a timer rather than something that simply sits there. Up to about 750 sq ft that is a Sukoon at Rs 1,899, and a Vaayu at that size would be the wrong buy. Past about 1,500 sq ft, or once there is an entrance and a lounge to carry, it is a Vaayu at Rs 11,999.
When the showroom is the job: A Sukoon at ₹1,899 up to about 750 sq ft, or a Vaayu at ₹11,999 past about 1,500. Different tool, different question.
