Green wood, warm wood, and why this page keeps saying it

Most disappointment with a woody purchase comes from one unspoken assumption. The buyer pictures a warm wood — creamy sandalwood, dark oud, sweet balsamic resin — and receives a green one, or the reverse. Mountain Breeze is unambiguously green. Vetiver: also no reed. The 1 Hotels-inspired scent at ₹299 is cedarwood, vetiver and green leaves, the driest of the seven, ultrasonic only.

Oud: there is no oud anywhere at SOSA, in any format, and I will not dress something else up as one. The St. Regis-inspired scent at ₹299 — amber, violet and woods — is the nearest resinous warmth we have, and it is not oud. Anyone who tells you a pine-cedar reed is "oud-adjacent" is selling. Warm wood generally: the reed line has none. Fresh Brew at ₹849 and 9.5 is the only reed with comparable depth and genuine warmth, but Coorg coffee and Kerala vanilla make it a gourmand, not a wood. Choosing it means swapping one quality for another with your eyes open, which is a fair trade — and a different thing from a substitute.
