How SOSA works
Two rungs, honestly: a spray you aim when you choose, or a cordless diffuser that decides for you
A note list is not a smell
Every description here is an intention written in words. It cannot tell you how an oil will sit on your own skin.
Alcohol-free by formulation
A jojoba carrier with no DPG and no ethanol. IFRA-compliant.
One dab, and do not rub it in
A pulse point and a dab applicator. Oil opens with warmth, so rubbing crushes the top of it.
Composed by a trained perfumer
Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained, composes the whole range.
A portion funds girl-child education
Part of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
We will tell you not to buy

Five things, and they are all checkable, which is the test I would apply to any answer to this question. If something a premium supposedly buys you cannot be verified before you pay or measured after, it is not a feature - it is a mood. So this page lists what a higher price can honestly buy, with the detail you would need to check each one, and then it lists what no price buys at all, which is the shorter and more useful half.
Quick answers — read this first
What should a premium attar buy me? Five checkable things: a composition with more construction in the drydown, a carrier chosen and named rather than left vague, published specifics such as the note order, sizes, prices and one wear figure, consistency between batches, and a brand that answers questions in writing. If a claimed premium cannot be verified before you pay or tested after, it is not a feature.

Does a more expensive attar smell more expensive? No, because smelling expensive is not a property an oil can have. It is a perception assembled from what you have smelled before and what you have learned to associate with money, which is why two people can disagree about the same wrist. Depth, materials and drydown are describable and checkable. Expensive is not.

Does paying more mean it lasts longer? Not in this range. All four compositions are 6 to 8 hours on skin, longer on warm or oily skin, in every size and at every price we charge. There is no standardised wear test in this category, so a larger published figure is not a measurement anybody can hold the seller to - it is a number.
The short answer
Short answer: Construction in the drydown, a carrier chosen rather than defaulted, published specifics you can check, consistency between batches, and a brand that answers questions. What it cannot buy is any guarantee that you will like it.
The pick: If you have already worn the composition and know it suits you, the 6ml is the size the range is built for - ₹669 Adaa, ₹679 Ameeri, ₹685 Mastani, ₹699 Nawaab. If you have not worn it, no amount of premium changes the answer: the 3ml at ₹379 to ₹399 is the honest size.
Honest note: an attar is bought unsmelled, so a list of notes is all you have. A note list describes an intention, not a smell, and nothing written here is a substitute for wearing it.
Four attars - lightest opening to deepest baseAdaa · Mastani · Ameeri · Nawaab3ml from ₹379  |  6ml from ₹669  |  12ml from ₹1,149Dab on pulse points - oil wants warmth, not rubbing6-8 hours on skin · alcohol-free · DPG-free carrier
There are four SOSA attars and they run from a bergamot-and-cardamom opening at the lightest end to white royal oud at the deepest. Adaa is the freshest, Mastani the most floral, Ameeri the warmest, Nawaab the deepest. All four are alcohol-free on a jojoba carrier with no DPG, come with a dab applicator, and wear 6-8 hours on skin - longer on warm or oily skin. Sizes are 3ml, 6ml and 12ml, from Rs 379. None of that tells you whether you will like the smell, which is why the smallest size exists.
Straight answer
What should a premium attar actually buy me beyond packaging and reputation?
Five things that can be checked, and then the list of things no price buys.

One: construction, which shows up in the drydown. More materials, arranged to hand over to each other, so the fragrance is different in hour four from how it was in the first twenty minutes. That is work, and work costs money. You can see it on the page before you buy: Nawaab is built on nine materials - white royal oud, sandalwood, saffron, black pepper, cardamom, aged tobacco leaf, amber, leather, white musk - and Adaa on four. Neither is better. They are different amounts of construction, and if you want something that keeps revealing itself over an evening, the longer list is what you are paying for. Which of the listed notes will actually dominate is the same question from the other end.

Two: a carrier chosen rather than defaulted. An attar is fragrance oil in something, and what it sits in changes how it behaves on skin. A brand that names the carrier has made a decision and can be asked about it. Ours is jojoba, with no DPG and no alcohol, and a dab applicator in the neck of each bottle. If a page does not say what the carrier is, that is not a premium - it is a page with a gap in it.

Three: published specifics you can actually check. The composition in the order you meet it, rather than a single family word. The concentration format. The sizes. The price of each size, visible before checkout. One wear figure stated plainly - ours is 6-8 hours on skin, longer on warm or oily skin, and we publish nothing else. Where the thing is made, which for us is Pune, in small hand-blended batches. Every one of those is a claim somebody can hold us to, which is precisely what makes it worth paying for. What to confirm on the live product page before you order.

Four: consistency between batches. The second bottle smelling like the first is a real thing to pay for and almost nobody lists it as a feature. It comes from blending to the same brief every time, and unlike most claims in this category you can test it yourself: buy, finish, buy again, and see. If a brand is cagey about batches, that is worth noticing.

Five: a brand that answers questions. An address, a human, and a written reply when you ask what the carrier is or whether a note is a single material or an accord. This sounds like the softest item on the list and it is the most practically useful, because it is the only one that keeps working after you have paid. The questions worth asking before you order.

Now the half that matters more: what no price buys. A guarantee that you will like it. That is the whole of it, and it is why the smallest size exists in this range. Nothing smells expensive. Expensiveness is not a property an oil can have - it is a perception, built out of what you have smelled before and what you have come to associate with money, which means it differs between two people sniffing the same wrist. I can describe depth, materials and drydown. I cannot sell you expensive. Longer wear is not a function of price. Ours is 6-8 hours on skin in every size and at every price in the range, and a brand quoting a bigger number has not measured it against any standard, because there is not one. And nothing about other people. No compliments, no turned heads, no reactions. Anybody selling you those is selling you something they cannot deliver.

One number worth knowing, from our own list. The gap between the lightest composition and the deepest, at the same size, is ₹20 at 3ml, ₹30 at 6ml and ₹50 at 12ml. Four materials against nine, and the price barely moves. That tells you something useful about the category: large price differences between ranges are mostly not about how much is in the bottle, which is exactly why the five checkable things above are the right place to look. The four compared properly, size by size.
A higher price can buy construction, a chosen carrier, published specifics, batch consistency and a brand that answers. It cannot buy a guarantee you will like it, and nothing smells expensive - that is a perception, not a property of the oil.
This is the case the range is for. The 6ml is the size to buy once you already know the composition suits you - ₹669 for Adaa, ₹679 Ameeri, ₹685 Mastani, ₹699 Nawaab. Same liquid as the 3ml and the 12ml, alcohol-free on a jojoba carrier, 6-8 hours on skin. If you have not worn it yet, the 3ml is the honest size and this page would rather you started there.
The attar range →

Three of the five, in the detail you would need to check them

Each of these is a claim somebody can be held to, which is the difference between a premium and a mood.

1
Construction
More materials, arranged to hand over to each other
The honest premium you can see before buying. Nine materials against four is a different amount of work, and it shows in the drydown - whether the fragrance in hour four is still doing something. Check it by counting the note list and reading whether the brand describes an order of appearance at all. A one-word family on a premium price is a page telling you less than it charges for.
Tip: Count the materials and look for an order of appearance, not an adjective.
2
The carrier
What the oil sits in is a decision, and it should be named
An attar is fragrance oil in a carrier, and the carrier changes how it behaves on skin. Ours is jojoba with no DPG and no alcohol, with a dab applicator in the neck. The point is less which carrier than that it is stated: a named carrier is a decision somebody will stand behind, and an unnamed one is a gap. Ask if the page does not say.
Tip: If the carrier is not on the page, send one email and judge the reply.
3
Consistency
The second bottle smelling like the first is worth money
Small-batch blending to the same brief each time is a real cost and almost never listed as a benefit, which is strange, because it is one of the few premiums you can test yourself: finish a bottle, buy another, compare. Readers who reorder a fragrance they love and find it changed have lost something a premium is supposed to protect.
Tip: Test it on your second purchase, which is the only place it can be tested.
The SOSA principle
If a premium cannot be verified before you pay or measured after, it is not a feature. It is a mood, and moods should be free.
Check the five. Ignore the adjectives.

Where a higher price shows up in the range

In construction, mostly. Nawaab carries nine materials and is the deepest thing we make; Ameeri runs Taif rose, Indian sandalwood and Persian saffron with the oudh kept soft; Mastani puts night-blooming jasmine and Damask rose over oudh; Adaa is four materials, bergamot and green cardamom over jasmine sambac and white musk. Those are four different amounts of work, published in the order you meet them.

The SOSA attar range
What a premium can and cannot settle
Option When it is the right call
Construction in the drydown Checkable before you pay · count the materials, look for an order of appearance
Will not settle: Whether you enjoy the thing it builds to
A named carrier and a stated format Checkable before you pay · a decision somebody stands behind
Will not settle: How the oil behaves on your particular skin
Batch consistency Testable after you pay · buy, finish, buy again, compare
Will not settle: Anything on the first purchase, which is the one you are making now
Packaging, reputation, concentration Real, and the three you already named
Will not settle: Whether you like it - and concentration is a strength figure, not a quality figure

And not in the wear figure, which is the same 6-8 hours on skin for all four and in all three sizes, longer on warm or oily skin. The 3ml at ₹379 to ₹399, the 6ml at ₹669 to ₹699 and the 12ml at ₹1,149 to ₹1,199 hold the same liquid, so size buys volume and nothing else. That is worth saying because a surprising amount of premium pricing in this category implies otherwise.

Not sure which of the four is yours?
Tell us the three fragrances you wear most and the notes you cannot stand. If none of our four fits what you describe, we will say so rather than sell you a bottle you will not wear.
Ask first
Nothing smells expensive. A composition can be deeper, more constructed, longer in the drydown - and expensive is in the nose, not the bottle.

The SOSA attar range

Every SOSA attar is alcohol-free and IFRA-compliant on a jojoba carrier with no DPG, hand-blended in small batches in Pune. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. There are four, and the honest way to read them is by depth - how much the base note is doing.

The SOSA attar range
Four attars, lightest to deepest - 3ml from ₹379
Attar Built on What it is, honestly 3ml
Adaa Bergamot, green cardamom, jasmine sambac, white musk The lightest of the four and the easiest first attar. Jasmine sambac is mogra, so this is also the mogra answer ₹379
Ameeri Taif rose, Indian sandalwood, Persian saffron, soft oudh The warm one. Rose and sandalwood doing most of the work, with the oudh kept soft ₹385
Mastani Night-blooming jasmine, Damask rose, oudh The most floral. A different jasmine and a different rose from Adaa and Ameeri ₹389
Nawaab White royal oud, sandalwood, saffron, tobacco leaf, amber, leather The deepest in the range. Not a first attar unless you already know you like oud ₹399
The trio Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani together Three of the four at once. The honest answer when you cannot choose and will not guess ₹1,055

Four honest notes. A note list is not a smell. Every composition above is described in the words we would use ourselves, and those words still cannot tell you how it will sit on your skin - which is the whole reason the 3ml exists. On the sizes: 3ml, 6ml and 12ml are the same liquid, and the only reason to buy the larger ones is that you already know. If you have not worn it, buy the smallest and let it earn the upgrade. On wear: all four are 6-8 hours on skin, longer on warm or oily skin, and that is the only figure we publish. We do not publish a drop count, a per-application cost, or a comparison with how long anybody else's fragrance lasts - including sprays. On what we do not make: there is no standalone musk, sandalwood, amber, tuberose, vetiver, khus, aquatic or tobacco attar in this range. Four compositions is the whole range, and where your answer is not one of them, this page will say so rather than talk you into the nearest thing.

A note from Sonal

Attars are the part of this business where the marketing is worst, and I would like ours to be the boring, accurate version. Most of the category sells a bottle on adjectives - royal, exotic, hypnotic, long-lasting - and on numbers nobody has measured. You cannot smell any of it before you pay, so the words are doing all the work, and almost nobody writes them honestly.

So here is what I will and will not tell you. I will tell you what is in each of the four, in the order you meet it, and that they wear 6-8 hours on my skin. I will not tell you that one of them smells expensive, or that it will turn heads, or that it lasts twelve hours, because I cannot know the first two about you and have not measured the third. The honest sequence is: read the notes, buy the 3ml, wear it for a week, and only then buy a size. If none of our four matches what you have described to yourself, I would rather say so than sell you the nearest one.

The other thing worth knowing is how little you need. An attar is concentrated oil, and the commonest mistake is wearing it like a spray - a long press at the neck and another at the wrists. One dab at a pulse point is the dose. Two if you want it read across a dinner table. Do not rub it in; oil opens with warmth, and rubbing crushes the top of it. That is the entire dial, and most people never need the top of it. A portion of every order supports girl-child education.

Frequently asked questions

What does a higher price actually buy in an attar?
Construction in the drydown, a carrier chosen and named rather than defaulted, published specifics you can check such as note order and sizes and one wear figure, consistency from batch to batch, and a brand that answers questions. All five can be verified before or after purchase, which is the test worth applying to any claimed premium.
Will a premium attar smell more expensive?
No oil has that property. Smelling expensive is a perception built from what you have smelled before and what you associate with money, so it varies from person to person on the same wrist. What can be described honestly is depth, the number of materials and what happens in the drydown.
Is a higher concentration worth paying for?
Concentration tells you about strength per dab, not about quality or about whether you will enjoy the composition. A well-built fragrance at a lower concentration can be far more pleasant to wear than a dense one you do not like. Treat it as one published specific among several rather than as the headline.
Does the price difference between your attars reflect quality?
Barely anything, and the numbers show it. At 3ml the gap between the lightest and deepest composition is Rs 20, at 6ml it is Rs 30 and at 12ml it is Rs 50. Nawaab carries nine materials and Adaa four, and the prices sit almost on top of each other, so price is not the signal anybody should be reading.
What can no attar price guarantee?
That you will like it. Also nothing about other people - no compliments, no reactions - and no longer wear as a function of price, since all four of ours are 6 to 8 hours on skin in every size. That is why the smallest bottle exists and why I would rather sell you one of those first.

About this guide:
  • Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Product recommendations reflect the SOSA range; the fragrance-family guidance applies to any brand. SOSA does not sort fragrance by the gender of the wearer.

What this guide does not claim.
  • An attar is a fragrance and nothing else.
A note list is not a smell
  • - it names what a composition is built from and the order you meet it in, which is a description of an intention rather than a measurement, and it is
not a substitute for wearing it
  • . Nothing here should be read as advice about health, allergies or anyone's wellbeing, and no fragrance on this page is claimed to affect anybody's mood, comfort, confidence or state of mind. Where a reader describes a preference none of our four compositions matches, these guides say so and sell nothing.

SOSA attars, specified:
  • four compositions -
Adaa
  • (bergamot, green cardamom, jasmine sambac, white musk),
Ameeri
  • (Taif rose, Indian sandalwood, Persian saffron, soft oudh),
Mastani
  • (night-blooming jasmine, Damask rose, oudh) and
Nawaab
  • (white royal oud, sandalwood, saffron, black pepper, cardamom, aged tobacco leaf, amber, leather, white musk). All four are
alcohol-free and IFRA-compliant on a jojoba carrier with no DPG
  • , supplied with a built-in dab applicator, and hand-blended in small batches in Pune. Sizes are
3ml, 6ml and 12ml
  • : Adaa ₹379 / ₹669 / ₹1,149, Ameeri ₹385 / ₹679 / ₹1,165, Mastani ₹389 / ₹685 / ₹1,179, Nawaab ₹399 / ₹699 / ₹1,199. The three-attar trio (Ameeri, Nawaab, Mastani) is ₹1,055 / ₹1,859 / ₹3,189. The same liquid fills all three sizes.

On wear.
  • SOSA publishes one figure:
6-8 hours on skin, longer on warm or oily skin
  • . SOSA does not publish a drop count, a cost per application, a projection rating, or any comparison with how long another format or another company's fragrance lasts. Where a customer review reports a different number, that is one person's experience of their own skin and not a measurement SOSA stands behind.

On what is in the bottle.
  • The composition lists above name the materials a fragrance is built from. They are not a statement of grade, percentage or geographic origin, and this guide makes no claim about either. Where origin or grade matters to you, ask before you buy - that is a fair question and the answer belongs to the product page rather than to an article.

On other companies.
  • Where another fragrance brand is named in these guides it is because a reader named it, and the page answers what they asked. Nothing here states what any other company's product contains, how long it lasts, what it costs or how it performs.
Other brands named are the property of their respective owners · SOSA is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by or associated with any other fragrance company named on this page
  • , and no other company has reviewed or approved this content. If a product you already own suits you, keep it - several pages in this guide say exactly that.

On availability.
  • SOSA is an online fragrance house and ships across India; it holds no retail counters, and no delivery window is quoted here. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Prices and availability change - see the live product pages.
