What is the cheapest way to have the same scent in two homes? Two identical reed diffusers at ₹749 to ₹849 each in 50ml, running about 6 to 10 weeks - roughly ₹1,500 for both, with nothing to carry and nothing to switch on. The case against it is that half of each bottle evaporates while the person is in the other city.
Why choose a portable diffuser over two of the same thing? Because one object is literally the same object. SOSA Safar at ₹3,999 is approximately 6.9 cm, cordless and waterless, with up to 30 hours intermittent per charge and a 1, 2 or 3-hour auto shut-off timer. It moves between the two flats in a bag. It fails the moment somebody stops packing it.
Three things worth separating before you buy, starting with what can honestly be claimed
Three things are worth separating here, and the first is the difference between a claim about an object and a claim about a person.
A fragrance is a scent. It is not a treatment for how somebody feels about an apartment. Nothing SOSA sells, and nothing anybody sells, makes a person feel at ease in a place, and a page that implies it does is asking you to buy a feeling on the strength of an object. It is worth being blunt about that even though it makes for a shorter sales pitch.
Now the part that is true. A room is made of things, and almost all of them are different between two addresses: the furniture, the light, the noise outside, the sequence of doors. Scent is unusual in that you can make it identical across both. Not similar - identical, the same composition in both rooms. Very few elements of a home can be duplicated that precisely for a few thousand rupees.
So the accurate version of the pitch is: this is one element that is the same in both places. That is a checkable fact about what you bought. What it does for your partner is theirs to discover, and if the answer turns out to be very little, you have still bought a good diffuser and a scent they chose.
Which is also why the choice of fragrance should be theirs rather than yours. A scent that is the same in both cities only means something if it is a scent they would have picked, and this is a taste decision you cannot make on somebody else's behalf.
One object that moves. SOSA Safar at ₹3,999 is approximately 6.9 cm, so it goes in the bag that already goes between the two cities. It is cordless, on a 2000 mAh battery charged over Type-C, with up to 10 hours continuous or up to 30 hours intermittent on one charge. It is waterless, taking pure fragrance oil in a 20ml bottle, so there is nothing to spill into a bag. Three speeds and a 1, 2 or 3-hour auto shut-off timer. This route is the literal version of the idea: not the same scent in two places, the same thing in two places.
Its failure mode is simple and common. It only works if somebody packs it, every single time. If the second flat is reached at the end of a long Thursday, the object that gets forgotten is the small one.
Two things that stay. Two identical reed diffusers at ₹749 to ₹849 each in 50ml - about ₹1,500 for the pair, which is less than half the Safar - or ₹1,249 to ₹1,349 each in 130ml. Each runs about 6 to 10 weeks. Nothing is carried, nothing is charged, nothing is switched on. Walk in, and the flat already smells of the same thing as the other flat.
Its failure mode is waste. Each bottle evaporates continuously, including through all the weeks the person is in the other city, so you are running two products and using one at a time. At ₹749 a bottle that may be a price you are happy to pay for requiring nothing of anybody.
No coverage figure is published. There is no square footage, no room size and no cubic-metre rating for Safar, so nobody can tell you how much of a flat it suits. The published control is three speeds from light to intense.
What comes in the box is not settled on the page. The list reads diffuser, 20ml bottle, Type-C cable and manual, and the page separately says to add your own fragrance oil, while the variants are named as scent trios. Ask on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 before ordering it as a present. SOSA's waterless nebuliser oils are ₹1,049 for 100 gm and ₹1,849 for 300 gm.
And the test that decides the route. Ask yourself one question about your partner: do they arrive at the second flat with the charger they meant to bring? If the answer is usually yes, buy the one object that moves. If the answer is usually no, buy two of the same thing and put one in each flat, because a product that requires nothing is the only kind that survives a household that is already carrying too much.
- Drop the idea that a scent settles anybody. Buy sameness, which is a real thing.
- Let them choose the fragrance. Identical only counts if it is one they would pick.
- If they pack well, buy one that moves: Safar Rs 3,999, about 6.9 cm, cordless.
- If they do not, buy two matching reeds from Rs 749 each and carry nothing.
Which trio, and what goes into the bottle
The fragrance choice matters more here than on most pages, because the point is that it is the same in two places and therefore has to be one they actively want. At ₹3,999 the SOSA-scent trios are vetiver with Mysore sandalwood and tobacco vanilla, white jasmine with neelakurinji and Malabar lemon, or Japanese cherry blossom with mahogany and sage and cedar. A trio is useful for this specific question because it gives three related options rather than one commitment, and the one that becomes the constant can be settled by living with them. At ₹4,499 the hotel-inspired trios are SOSA's own interpretations of the kind of scent associated with certain hotel groups - these are SOSA compositions and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. Think twice about that tier here. The second flat probably already feels a bit like accommodation rather than a home, and a hotel-adjacent scent in it may be the wrong direction.
| The option | Who it suits, and where it fails |
|---|---|
| SOSA Safar, carried · ₹3,999 to ₹4,499 | About 6.9 cm, cordless, waterless, up to 30 hours intermittent per charge, three speeds and a 1, 2 or 3-hour auto shut-off. Literally the same object in both flats, and the only option here that is. It fails completely the first week it does not get packed, which is a real risk and not a small one. |
| Two identical reeds · from ₹749 each | About ₹1,500 for the pair in 50ml, each lasting about 6 to 10 weeks, one standing in each flat. Nothing to carry, charge or switch on, which is why this is the route most likely to still be working in six months. Against it: both bottles evaporate all the time, so you are always paying for the flat nobody is in. |
| Two ultrasonic machines · Boond ₹899, Sukoon ₹1,899 | Water-based and mains-powered, running the Hotel Collection fragrance from ₹299, so the same scent can be in both. Cheap enough to duplicate. The cost is upkeep in two places rather than one: water, a socket, and filling it each time it is used. |
| A matching attar · from ₹379 | A 3ml alcohol-free roll-on at ₹379 to ₹399 is the same scent in both cities for almost nothing, and it cannot be forgotten because it lives in a pocket. But it scents the person rather than the room, so it answers a related question rather than this one. Worth knowing before you spend ten times as much. |
On running the Safar: it takes pure fragrance oil in the 20ml bottle and no water. SOSA's waterless nebuliser oils are ₹1,049 for 100 gm and ₹1,849 for 300 gm, and a good-quality pure essential oil also works, while thick, sticky or water-based blends can clog the mechanism. It never takes the ₹299 water-based Hotel Collection bottle - that is the fluid for the ultrasonics. One point people ask about and which cannot honestly be answered: whether carrying one Safar works out cheaper over a year than running two reeds. It cannot be calculated, because how long 20ml of oil lasts is not published. Anybody who gives you that sum has invented it. And for completeness, SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 is mains-powered and rated for approximately 1000 m3 of connected air; it stays where it is installed, so duplicating it across two cities is a large amount of money to solve a small problem.
The SOSA gifting range
Two questions settle almost every reed diffuser gift, and the first one is not price. How big is the room it is going into? A 50ml suits a bedroom, a study, a hallway or a first diffuser; a 130ml suits an open-plan living and dining area, and it is genuinely too much for a small closed bedroom. Then: how much do you actually know about their taste? The less you know, the less declarative the scent should be - Morning Freshness is the safest of the five for a home you have never stood in, and Fresh Brew coffee-vanilla is the strongest opinion in the range. Price follows those two answers rather than leading them.

Safar adds a scent to a room. It does not remove, neutralise or mask one, and it is aroma only - it does not humidify. No coverage or room-size figure is published for Safar, and the runtime figures describe the battery on one charge rather than how long 20ml of oil lasts, which is not published. Safar's country of origin is China (imported); SOSA's fragrances are made in India. Battery and liquid rules for air travel belong to the airline, not to SOSA - check with yours. Prices above are published retail prices; bulk orders are welcome and quantities are settled on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531. SOSA is an Indian fragrance house based in Pune and sends orders across India. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Versailles
Safar started as a car product and then the messages changed. People kept writing to tell me where they had actually been using it, and it was almost never the car. It was a hotel room in a city they were in for two nights. It was a serviced flat in a place they had not chosen to live. It was a daughter's room in a university halls of residence eleven time zones away.
What I think is going on is quite specific, and it is not about luxury. A room you have not chosen is a room you have no memory of. Everything in it was selected by somebody else for somebody who is not you, and most of it is perfectly nice. The thing that makes a space yours is not how expensive it is - it is that something in it is the same as it was yesterday. Scent is unusually good at being that something, because it is the one part of a room you can carry in a handbag.
The feature I would point at, if I could only point at one, is the auto shut-off timer. It sounds like a small engineering detail and it is the reason the thing works away from home. You are in somebody else's property, you will leave in the morning, and you do not want to think about whether you switched something off. One hour, two or three, and it stops on its own.
And the part I will not dress up: this does not fix anything about being far from the people you like. It is a diffuser. It adds a scent you chose to a space you did not choose, and it does not remove whatever the room already smells of. That is a smaller claim than the ones usually made about travel products, and it happens to be true.

What the Safar page does not publish, and what is therefore not stated anywhere here: any coverage, room-size, square-footage or cubic-volume figure; how long the battery takes to charge; how long a 20 ml fill of oil lasts, which is a different thing from battery runtime; any warranty period; noise level, water resistance or operating temperature; and how many drops a fill takes. The page's in-the-box list and its repeated instruction to add your own fragrance oil do not settle whether fragrance oil arrives with the device, so no claim is made here either way. About air travel: nothing on this page states or implies that Safar may be carried in cabin or hold baggage or taken through airport security. A rechargeable lithium battery is governed by the airline's rules and the reader should check with their airline. Nothing here states what any hotel will or will not permit in its rooms. Limits of this guide: Safar adds a scent to a space. It does not remove, neutralise, mask, cancel or purify any odour, it does not clean or humidify the air, and no SOSA product makes any health, antibacterial or air-purifying claim. No claim is made anywhere on this page about mood, stress, calm, sleep, comfort, homesickness or wellbeing: fragrance is a scent, not a treatment, and where a product name contains a word such as Calm that is a name and not an effect. No claim is made about how any recipient will feel. About origin and affiliation: SOSA Home & Body is an Indian fragrance house based in Pune, Maharashtra, and sends orders across India, with no shop, showroom, stockist, counter or warehouse in any other city. SOSA blends described as hotel-inspired are SOSA's own interpretations and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand.
