How SOSA works
Alcohol-free car perfume on an oil and water carrier - and an honest account of what it cannot fix
Fragrance is the last step
A car perfume goes on top of clean, aired cabin. It is not a way of dealing with a smell that has a source.
Alcohol-free by formulation
An oil and water carrier rather than ethanol. Phthalate-free and IFRA-compliant.
Sprayed into the air, not onto the car
Aimed at the centre of the cabin, away from leather and fabric. The directions are on the bottle and we repeat them here.
Composed by a trained perfumer
Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained, composes the whole range.
A portion funds girl-child education
Part of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
We will tell you not to buy
Where the honest answer is a vacuum, a service booking or an open window, these guides say so and sell nothing.

This is the shortest running total in the whole set, and that is the answer rather than an accident. Six training mornings, one evening with colleagues in the car, and a week that costs two sprays. Not because fragrance is the wrong thing to want, but because on six of those seven days the decision that changes the cabin is made at ten to seven in the morning, with a bag in your hand.
Quick answers — read this first
Does removing gym kit work better than using more car perfume? Yes, and it is not close. Kit in a closed boot for nine hours is a continuous source inside the cabin, and a spray reaches the air rather than the inside of a bag. Adding more fragrance gives you the kit and the fragrance together rather than one instead of the other.

How many sprays does a week of early training actually need? Two, in the week written out here - both of them on the one evening colleagues are in the car. At ₹3.00 a spray from a 50ML bottle that is six rupees for the week.

Where should gym shoes and kit go if not the boot? Out of the car. Kit goes into the building with you or home the night before, and shoes travel in a closed box rather than loose. If something has to stay, closed is what matters rather than tidy - a sealed container in the boot is a different object from the same shoes in an open bag.
The short answer
Short answer: Removing them, without question. The week costs two sprays and about six rupees, because six of the seven decisions in it are made with a bag rather than a bottle.
The pick: the 10ml at ₹449 - at two sprays a week, 100 sprays is a very long run and the 50ML would be over-buying. The 50ML at ₹1,499 is the better rate at ₹3.00 a spray, but only once you are using it far more than this.
Honest note: a car perfume sits on top of the air already in the cabin. It does not remove a smell, and where there is a source, that comes first.
The order of operations - fragrance comes last1. Find the source · 2. Clean it · 3. Air the cabin · 4. Then spray10ml ₹449 · 100 sprays  |  50ML ₹1,499 · 500 spraysAim at the centre of the cabin, never at the upholsteryOne spray, two, or three · that is the whole dial
A hatchback cabin is the smallest space SOSA sells fragrance into, which makes it the easiest one to overdo. The spray is dosed in single sprays - one for a light welcome, two before you pick somebody up, three for a full reset - aimed at the centre of the cabin and away from leather or fabric. The 10ml bottle holds 100 sprays at Rs 449; the 50ML holds 500 at Rs 1,499, which is Rs 3.00 a spray against Rs 4.49. None of that matters, though, until the cabin is clean and aired: a perfume sits on top of the air already in the car.
Straight answer
What does a week of training before work actually cost in sprays?
Here is the week. Six mornings and one evening, and the totals are the argument.

Monday, 05:50. Gym. 06:50, out. Here is the decision: the kit goes into a closed bag and the shoes into a closed box, and both of them come into the building with you at 07:15 or they go home. What they do not do is spend the next nine hours in a warm boot. Sprays: 0.

Monday, 07:00, the fifteen-minute drive to work. Windows down for the first two minutes. You have just trained, the cabin is small, and the two minutes cost nothing. Nothing else. Sprays: 0.

Monday, 16:00 to 18:30. The car is parked with nothing in it. This is the entire point of the morning decision: an empty boot for nine hours instead of a full one. Sprays: 0.

Tuesday to Saturday. The same five times over. Same bag, same box, same two minutes of window. Sprays: 0. Running total for six days: 0.

Thursday, 18:30 - the one evening it changes. Two colleagues are getting a lift. On a day you know that in advance, the kit does not travel at all: it went home on Wednesday night or it is in a locker. Then, at the car: doors open for a minute, two sprays at the centre of the cabin, away from leather or fabric, thirty seconds to settle while they walk over. Week total: 2.

And the monthly item. Once a month, the boot floor and the boot mat get taken out and cleaned rather than wiped around. Shoes in a box still shed grit, and grit in the boot carpet is the part nobody checks. No sprays.

So: two sprays a week. At ₹3.00 each from a 500-spray 50ML bottle at ₹1,499 that is six rupees for the week. At that rate the 50ML would be over-buying for a long while, and a 10ml at ₹449 with its 100 sprays is the honest size - or the three-mini set from ₹699 if the scent is undecided. This is a page where the useful part is free and the bottle is the small end of it. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
One line: two sprays a week and six rupees, because six of the week's seven decisions are made with a bag and a box rather than with a bottle.
Once the cabin is clean and aired, the 50ML spray at ₹1,499 is the buy that makes sense: 500 sprays, which is ₹3.00 a spray against ₹4.49 for the 10ml. One honest caveat - if you have not smelled the scent yet, start with the 10ml at ₹449 or the three-mini set, because 500 sprays of the wrong thing is a long time.

Where the week's decisions actually get made

Three things about a training week decide the cabin, and only one of them involves a purchase.

1
06:50
The decision is which container, not which bottle
Every morning of that week has one moment that matters, and it is the moment the kit leaves the gym. Closed bag or open one. Box or loose. Into the building or into the boot. That choice sets what the cabin is like for the next nine hours and then for the fifteen-minute drive home, and it is made before you have even got to the car. Nothing you can buy competes with it, because a spray reaches the air in the cabin and the kit is inside a bag inside a boot.
Tip: Decide it at the gym door, not at the car. By the time you are at the car the choice has been made.
2
Nine hours
Duration is what makes kit a source rather than an event
Fifteen minutes of driving against nine hours of storage is the whole imbalance. Damp kit in a warm closed boot is not a thing that happened this morning - it is a thing that is still happening at four in the afternoon, and it is being released into a sealed cabin the entire time. That is why increasing the intensity does not work in this particular case. You are adding a short event on top of a long one. Take the long one out of the car and the short one has nothing to compete with.
3
Thursday
The one moment a spray is exactly the right tool
None of this is an argument against fragrance - it is an argument about order. On the evening colleagues are in the car, the boot is already empty, the cabin is already aired and two sprays land on air you have nothing to hide in. That is the fragrance doing precisely the job it is good at: putting one chosen thing into a cabin that smells of very little. Two sprays, six rupees, once a week. The reason it works that well is everything that happened at ten to seven on the other six mornings.
Tip: Empty boot first, two minutes of air second, two sprays third. In that order it is a thirty-second job.
The SOSA principle
Six of the week's seven decisions are made with a bag, not a bottle.
Which is why the running total is two sprays, and why raising the intensity would have given you the kit and the perfume rather than one instead of the other.

What the week costs in sprays, and what to buy

Two sprays a week is a small enough habit that the scent matters more than the size.

The SOSA car edit
The training week, in sprays
Option When it is the right call
Six mornings, kit and shoes after training None. Closed bag, closed box, and both of them out of the car at 07:15. This is the whole page in one row.
Six fifteen-minute drives to work None. Windows down for the first two minutes instead - free, and it is the right tool for a cabin you have just got into.
Thursday evening, colleagues in the car Two sprays at the centre of the cabin after a minute with the doors open. The boot is already empty, which is why two is enough.
Choosing the scent Icy Mint ₹489, Lemon ₹499 or Sea Breeze ₹509 sit well in a cabin that is already clear.

The general version of this is The bag that stays, which makes the duration argument without the week attached. Shoes in the boot till evening is the shoes on their own, and the Thursday evening has its own post in Colleagues after the gym - where the honest answer is that somebody getting a lift did not choose your cabin, so the number goes down rather than up.

Not sure whether fragrance is even the answer?
Tell us what the cabin actually smells of, how old the car is and what you have already cleaned. If the honest answer is a vacuum, a new cabin filter or a workshop, we will say so rather than sell you a bottle.
Ask first
You would be adding a short event on top of a long one. Take the long one out of the car.

The SOSA car perfume edit

Every SOSA car perfume is alcohol-free and phthalate-free on an oil and water carrier, hand-blended in small batches in India. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Here is the edit by how certain you are of the scent, which is the thing that should decide the size you buy.

The SOSA car perfume edit
Five answers by how sure you are of the scent - from ₹449 to ₹3,999
Format Best for What it is, honestly From
50ML car perfume spray You already know the scent works 500 sprays at ₹3.00 a spray. The cheapest way to run one scent for a long time ₹1,499
10ml car perfume spray You are still deciding 100 sprays of the same formulation. The honest size for a scent you have not lived with yet ₹449
Discovery set, three minis You have no idea which scent Three mini sprays in fixed scent trios. Made for exactly this problem ₹699
Two-scent combo Two people, or two moods Jasmine and Lemon, Jasmine and Lavender, Oud and Lemon, or Sandalwood and Oud ₹899
SOSA Safar diffuser You want it handled without spraying Cordless, rechargeable, waterless. Runs on a timer rather than on you remembering ₹3,999

Four honest notes. A car perfume does not remove a smell, and nothing on this page will. If the cabin has a source - food under a seat, a damp mat, an air conditioner that smells in the first minute, tobacco in the foam - that source has to go first, and in two of those cases the answer is a workshop rather than a shop. Fragrance sits on top of the air already in the car. The spray is aimed at the centre of the cabin, away from leather and fabric, because that is what the directions on the bottle say; it is not a fabric treatment and it is not an upholstery product. On size: the 50ML at ₹1,499 is 500 sprays and works out at ₹3.00 a spray against ₹4.49 for the 10ml, so it is the better buy once you are sure - but if you have not smelled the scent yet, the 10ml at ₹449 or the three-mini discovery set from ₹699 is the sensible place to start. SOSA makes spray and hanging formats only - no plug-in and no vent clip - and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

A note from Sonal

Car fragrance is the part of this business where the marketing is worst, and I would like ours to be the boring, accurate version. Most of the category sells you a bottle as an answer to a smell. It almost never is. A car that smells wrong smells wrong for a reason, and the reason is nearly always physical - something under a seat, something damp in the boot, something in the air conditioning, something ground into the fabric two owners ago.

A perfume cannot reach any of that. What it can do is sit on top of clean, aired air and make a small cabin pleasant to get into. That is a real thing worth buying, and it is a much smaller claim than the one usually made for it. So the sequence is: find the source, clean it, open the windows, and only then reach for a bottle. If you do those three things and the car is fine, you may not need us at all, and I would rather say that than sell you something that will disappoint you in a fortnight.

The other thing worth knowing is how little you need. A hatchback is the smallest cabin we sell into, and the commonest mistake is treating a spray like an aerosol - four or five pumps at the windscreen. It is dosed in single sprays, aimed at the middle of the car and away from the seats. One is a welcome. Three is a full reset before guests get in. That is the entire dial, and most people never need the top of it. A portion of every order supports girl-child education.

Frequently asked questions

Is taking gym kit out of the car better than using more fragrance?
Yes, and the reason is duration. Kit in a warm closed boot is releasing into the cabin for nine hours, while a spray is a single event lasting a drive. More fragrance gives you both at once rather than one in place of the other, and nothing sprayed into the air reaches the inside of a bag.
How many sprays does a week of early gym sessions need?
Two, in the week on this page, and both of them are on the one evening colleagues are in the car. That is six rupees at ₹3.00 a spray, which is a smaller number than most people expect from a page about car perfume.
What should I do with shoes if they have to stay in the car?
Put them in a closed box rather than loose or in an open bag, keep them in the boot rather than the cabin, and take the boot mat out to clean once a month. Closed is what matters here rather than tidy.
Should I spray before the drive home after training?
Two minutes with the windows down does more, and it costs nothing. The cabin is small, you have just trained, and fresh air moving through for the first part of the drive is the right tool for that particular moment.
Which bottle should I buy at two sprays a week?
The 10ml at ₹449, which holds 100 sprays and at this rate is a long run. The 50ML at ₹1,499 is the better rate at ₹3.00 a spray against ₹4.49, but buying 500 sprays for a two-a-week habit is not a saving worth making yet.

About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Product recommendations reflect the SOSA range; the cabin and cleaning advice applies to any brand. SOSA does not sort fragrance by the gender of the wearer.

What this guide does not claim. A car perfume is a fragrance, not a cleaning product, an odour treatment or an air treatment. Nothing here removes, neutralises or eliminates a smell, and nothing here should be read as advice about health, air quality, allergies or anyone's wellbeing. Where a cabin smells of embedded tobacco, damp, or of the air conditioning in the first minute after startup, the honest answer is cleaning or a service booking rather than a fragrance product, and these guides say so rather than selling around it. SOSA is not a car detailer and has no detailing partner.

SOSA car perfume, specified: alcohol-free and phthalate-free, IFRA-compliant, on an oil and water carrier rather than ethanol. The spray is a 10ml bottle holding 100 sprays; a 50ML bottle holds 500.
