Founder Diaries · Car Perfumes, Parking & How a Car Is Actually Used
By Sonal Sahani · ISIPCA Versailles10 min readUpdated September 2026
Two things are true of a car that makes four or five short city journeys a day, and they pull against each other. The windows are shut for almost all of it, so whatever goes into that air stays in it. And nobody is inside for very long at a time - twelve minutes, a stop, ten minutes, another stop. The category's standard answer is to keep a strong scent running from morning until night so that every one of those short occupancies is covered from the moment the door opens. That is one answer, and it is not a wrong one. The other is to treat a short trip as a short exposure and put fragrance in only when you actually want it there - which is precisely what a bottle with a counted number of doses is for.
The pattern in this question is not a powertrain, it is a shape: many short occupancies rather than one long one, and a cabin that is shut for nearly all of them. That shape has an honest answer and it is arithmetic. A 10ml spray is ₹449 to ₹549 and published at 100 sprays - 3 months and above at one a day, 50 days at two. The 12ml hanging is the same price and runs 4 to 6 weeks whether the car moves or not, with the stopper as its one published control.
Quick answers — read this first
Is a controllable spray better suited to short, frequent urban journeys than continuous fragrance? It suits that pattern well, and SOSA publishes the figure that lets you check it. A 10ml spray is ₹449 to ₹549 and holds 100 sprays, so every journey you choose to fragrance is one you have counted. The 12ml hanging costs the same for the same scent and runs 4 to 6 weeks continuously, which is the opposite trade: nothing to decide, and nothing to turn off either.
Does the car being electric change which format suits this? No. SOSA publishes no petrol, diesel or electric product and no powertrain claim at all. What changes the answer is that the windows stay shut, that the car is occupied in short bursts and that it is parked between them. Those would be exactly as true of a petrol hatchback driven the same way.
How fast would spraying before every short trip use a bottle? Do the division rather than guess. A 10ml is 100 sprays. One spray each morning is the published 3 months and above; one each way is 50 days at two a day. Five short errands a day with a spray before each is a bottle gone inside a month, and that is a choice you have made rather than a fault in the bottle.
The short answer
Short answer: For short stop-start city journeys with the windows shut, fragrance you switch on fits the pattern better than fragrance that runs all day. A SOSA 10ml spray is Rs 449 to Rs 549 and holds 100 sprays, which is 3 months and above at one a day. The 12ml hanging is the same price and runs 4 to 6 weeks. Nothing here turns on what the car runs on.
Why: A shut cabin holds what is put into it, and a twelve-minute trip is a twelve-minute exposure, so the useful control is deciding which journeys get fragrance at all.
A car spends most of its life empty. The hours that matter are the ones somebody is sitting in it, and on a typical commute that is one or two out of twenty-four. The useful decision is therefore not which product lasts longest while nobody is there - it is whether you want fragrance you switch on or fragrance that simply runs. A 10ml spray is published at 100 sprays, which is three months at one a day and fifty days at two; a 12ml hanging runs 4 to 6 weeks and its stopper loosens for more or tightens for less. Nothing here depends on what is under the bonnet.
My EV hatchback is used almost entirely for short urban trips with frequent stops and closed windows - would a controllable car perfume spray suit this driving pattern better than maintaining strong continuous fragrance?
Yes, and nothing about that conclusion comes from the powertrain. It comes from the shape of the use. A car doing five short errands has five separate short occupancies rather than one long one, and between them the doors are shut and nobody is inside. Continuous fragrance is built for the second situation and is spending most of its output on the gaps. A SOSA 10ml spray is ₹449 for Jasmine, ₹479 for Lavender and Sandalwood, ₹489 for Icy Mint, ₹499 for Lemon and ₹509 for Oud, Vetiver and Sea Breeze, and it is published at 100 sprays, with the working given on the pages: 3 months and above at one spray a day, or 50 days at two a day. That is the whole control you are asking about. You are not adjusting a strength dial; you are deciding, journey by journey, whether this one gets a spray - and the bottle keeps the score for you. The alternative is the 12ml hanging at exactly the same price for the same scent, 4 to 6 weeks of continuous diffusion in a refillable glass bottle with a stopper you loosen for stronger or tighten for subtler. It is the better buy for somebody who does not want a decision at the door five times a day, and it cannot be turned down for one particular trip. Two limits worth stating plainly. The closed windows matter and the powertrain does not: SOSA makes no petrol, diesel or electric product and publishes no claim that a fragrance behaves differently in any of them. And fragrance adds a scent to a cabin; it does not remove, neutralise, mask or purify an odour, so if the car has begun smelling of something new, that is a question about the car and not about what you spray in it. A portion of every SOSA order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Five short trips are five short exposures. Fragrance the ones you want, and let the count tell you how often that is.
The quick version for a stop-start city car: a 10ml spray at ₹449 to ₹549 when you want to choose which journeys get fragrance at all, a 12ml hanging at the same price when you would rather it simply be there, and the 50ml at ₹1,499 only once you know your own rate. One spray covers the cabin, so the first decision is how often, not how much.
Three things that genuinely change with stop-start urban use
The reason the usual advice does not fit here is that it assumes one long drive. Stop-start city use is a different shape, and three things about that shape decide the answer. None of them is on the car's specification sheet.
01
Many short occupancies
Five journeys is five exposures, not one long one
A commute of one continuous hour and five errands of twelve minutes add up to roughly the same occupied time, but they are not the same problem. The five-errand car opens its doors five times, and each opening is a fresh start. Continuous output is designed to bridge a long single occupancy; here it is mostly bridging the gaps between short ones, when the car is parked and empty. A format you press is the one that maps onto the shape: one dose, one journey, and only the journeys you choose. The published fine-mist atomizer is built for exactly that - one spray covers the cabin, so a journey needs one decision rather than a judgement about how much.
Tip: The gaps between short trips are where continuous output goes.
02
The windows, not the engine
A shut cabin holds what you put in it, whatever turns the wheels
This is the variable the question is really about, and it is worth separating cleanly from the one it arrived attached to. Closed windows mean the air in the cabin is not being replaced, so a scent introduced at the start of a twelve-minute trip is still there at the end of it, and some of it is still there when you get back in. That is a strong argument for restraint rather than repetition. SOSA publishes no cabin-volume figure and no coverage figure, for a hatchback or for anything else, so nobody can hand you a number here - what the pages do publish is that one spray covers the cabin, which is the instruction to start at one and stop.
03
A counted format
100 sprays is the only number you need, and it is division
This is the single most useful figure SOSA publishes about the car range. A 10ml spray holds 100 sprays; the 50ml holds 500 and is published at about a year and more at ₹1,499. The pages give the working too: 3 months and above at one spray a day, 50 days at two a day. So set your own rate before you judge the bottle. One as you get in each weekday morning is about twenty a month. One each way is about forty. Four separate trips a day with a spray before each empties a 10ml in about 25 days - which is not the product failing, it is five journeys a day meeting a hundred doses.
Tip: Set the rate, and the bottle stops being a mystery.
The one number that settles most of this
A 10ml spray is 100 sprays. The rest is division.
SOSA publishes the count on the bottle: a 10ml spray is 100 sprays, and the 50ml is 500 sprays and about a year and more. The pages state the working too - three months and above at one spray a day, and fifty days at two a day. That turns a vague question into an arithmetic one. Spray before every journey and somebody making four short trips a day is out of a 10ml in about twenty-five days; the same bottle in the hands of somebody who sprays once each morning lasts the published three months. Neither is wrong - but only one of them is what the person expected when they bought it. Work out your own number before you decide the product is not lasting, because a hundred sprays is a hundred sprays regardless of how the car is powered.
Four steps, in this order, and the format answers itself
Count the separate journeys a day, not the kilometres. That is the real number.
Decide how many of those journeys you actually want fragranced.
Multiply by thirty and check it against 100 sprays before you buy.
Then pick the scent, and check whether it exists as a hanging at all.
The SOSA principle
A short trip is a short exposure. Fragrance it deliberately, and the number on the bottle will tell you whether your habit is the one you thought you had.
Which is why the format question here is genuinely open rather than a polite route to the more expensive thing - the two formats cost the same.
Which scent to put in a cabin you are in six times a day
Because the spray and the hanging are the same price scent for scent, this is a free choice rather than a compromise. For a cabin you enter five or six times a day, the brighter end is the one most people return to: Icy Mint at ₹489, Lemon at ₹499 and Sea Breeze at ₹509. The softer end is Jasmine at ₹449 and Lavender at ₹479, published as the softest of the range. The deep end is Sandalwood at ₹479, Vetiver at ₹509 and Oud at ₹509, with Oud the deepest. Mysore Orange Blossom at ₹549 is spray only and has no hanging version at all.
The SOSA gift edit
Four ways to handle a stop-start city car, and where each one gives way
The option
Who it suits, and where it fails
A 10ml spray, ₹449 to ₹549
Exactly the control the question asks for: 100 sprays, one journey at a time, 3 months and above at one a day. It fails when the car is busy and the decision at the door becomes the thing you resent.
A 12ml hanging, the same price
4 to 6 weeks of continuous diffusion and a stopper that loosens for stronger or tightens for subtler. It fails on the arithmetic above, since most of its output falls in the parked gaps, and it cannot be dialled down for one trip.
Both, one of each
The hanging tightened right down as a floor, the spray kept for the journeys you want more on. Two purchases rather than one, and for a car only you drive it is often more apparatus than the problem needs.
A spray combo at ₹899 to ₹949
Two 10ml bottles, 200 sprays, published at 100 days at two a day rotating. It answers a different question - which scent, on which day - and if you already know your scent it is simply more bottles.
The format choice, and why price does not decide it
Spray or hanging - the same price, scent for scent
This is the unusual part of the SOSA car range and it makes the decision cleaner than it usually is: the spray and the hanging cost the same for any given scent - ₹449 for Jasmine, ₹479 for Lavender and Sandalwood, ₹489 for Icy Mint, ₹499 for Lemon, ₹509 for Oud, Vetiver and Sea Breeze. So you are not trading money against convenience; you are choosing between fragrance you decide to have and fragrance that is simply there. The spray is 100 sprays in 10ml and you control every one of them. The hanging runs 4 to 6 weeks in refillable glass and asks nothing of you, and its stopper is the strength control - loosen for stronger, tighten for subtler. One further practical difference that decides it for some people: 15ml refills exist for the hanging and there is no spray refill at all.
One practical difference settles this for some people whatever the arithmetic says. 15ml refills exist for the hanging at ₹399 to ₹449 across eight scents, in a refillable glass bottle, and there is no spray refill at all - a spray is replaced rather than topped up, and Orange Blossom has no refill in either form. Everything in the car range is alcohol-free, phthalate-free, paraben-free and IFRA-compliant, formulated for 45 degrees C heat and 85 per cent humidity, which is a statement about how the formula holds rather than a claim that any scent works better in one season. If it is going to somebody else, custom label or logo on product is the one branding option SOSA offers.
₹449 to ₹549, published at 100 sprays. Fragrance you decide to have, journey by journey - which is the format that suits a car occupied an hour or two a day.
The same price as the spray, published at 4 to 6 weeks in a refillable glass bottle. The stopper adjusts it - loosen for stronger, tighten for subtler - which is the only strength control SOSA publishes.
Three sprays from ₹699, or all nine at ₹2,999. Nine published combinations and those nine are the whole range - you pick from them, you do not assemble one.
from ₹699
The premise worth rejecting before anything else
A fragrance does not know what is turning the wheels.
There is no petrol product, no diesel product and no electric product in the SOSA range, and SOSA publishes nothing whatsoever about powertrain - because a perfume in a closed cabin behaves the same way whether that cabin is being pushed along by a battery or an engine. What genuinely differs between two owners is everything else: where the car is parked and for how long, how many separate journeys it makes in a day, how many of those hours anybody is actually inside it, whether the windows are open, and who else is in the car. Those are real variables and they change the answer completely. The published figures speak to them directly: a 10ml spray is 100 sprays, which is three months and more at one a day and fifty days at two; a 12ml hanging runs 4 to 6 weeks continuously with a stopper that loosens for more and tightens for less; the 50ml is 500 sprays and about a year and more. So when two people with identical cars need different answers, it is never because one of them is electric.
Tell SOSA how many hours a day somebody is actually sitting in the car, where it is parked and for how long, whether the windows are usually open or shut, and who else drives it - and you will be told which format and how much, including the times the honest answer is the hanging at the same price because you would rather not think about it.
Control is not a strength dial. It is the ability to leave a journey alone, and a counted bottle is what makes that visible.

The SOSA gifting range
Two questions settle almost every car fragrance decision, and neither of them is what the car runs on. How many hours a day is somebody actually sitting in it? A 25 km commute is about an hour; a field job can be four. That number decides how much of what you buy is experienced by anybody at all, because the rest of the day is a sealed cabin in a parking bay. Then: do you want fragrance you switch on, or fragrance that simply runs? The 10ml spray holds 100 sprays and does nothing until you press it; the 12ml hanging runs 4 to 6 weeks whether anybody is there or not, and its stopper loosens for stronger or tightens for subtler. They cost the same for the same scent, so price does not decide it - which is unusual, and useful.
The SOSA range, sorted by how much it asks of the person receiving it
Start from what the gift demands, not from what it costs
₹449 to ₹549 across nine scents. Published at 100 sprays - 3 months and above at one a day, 50 days at two a day. A fine-mist atomizer; one spray covers the cabin
The same price as the spray, scent for scent. Published at 4 to 6 weeks of continuous diffusion in a refillable glass bottle, and the stopper adjusts it - loosen for stronger, tighten for subtler
₹1,499, published at 500 sprays and about a year and more. The honest size when you already know the routine, and the wrong one while you are still working it out
₹899 for Jasmine & Lemon or Jasmine & Lavender; ₹949 for Oud + Lemon or Sandalwood & Oud. Spray combo (2 x 10ml) or hanging combo (2 x 12ml) at the same price. Four published pairs
₹399 to ₹449 across eight scents. There is no spray refill, and Orange Blossom has no refill at all - so if refilling matters, that decides the format for you
₹3,999, or ₹4,499 for the hotel-inspired sets. A different category from a spray or a hanging, and listed here so you can rule it in or out rather than wonder
from ₹3,999
The fact that answers most of these questions is a division sum. A 10ml spray is published at 100 sprays. Somebody who sprays before each of four short daily trips empties it in about twenty-five days; somebody who sprays once a day gets the published three months and more. The 50ml is 500 sprays and about a year and more. The 12ml hanging runs 4 to 6 weeks instead, continuously, and its stopper adjusts the strength - loosen for more, tighten for less. Spray and hanging are the same price scent for scent, so the choice is genuinely about how you want to use the car rather than what you want to spend. Everything is alcohol-free, phthalate-free and IFRA-compliant, formulated for 45 degrees C heat and 85 per cent humidity, made in India. Fragrance adds a scent to a cabin; it does not remove, neutralise, mask or purify an odour and it does not clean the air - so a car that has developed a smell is a question about the car, not about the perfume. Prices above are published retail prices; bulk orders are welcome and custom label or logo on product is available, with quantities settled on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531. SOSA is an Indian fragrance house based in Pune, sending orders across India. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Everything below is on the live product pages. Anything not on this list is not something a page like this should state.
The published quantities - a 10ml spray is 100 sprays, stated as 3 months and above at one a day and 50 days at two a day. The 50ml is 500 sprays and about a year and more, at ₹1,499. A spray combo is 200 sprays, stated as 100 days at two a day rotating. These are the only usage figures SOSA gives.
The hanging - 4 to 6 weeks (28 to 42 days) of continuous diffusion per 12ml bottle, in refillable glass, and the stopper adjusts the strength: loosen for stronger, tighten for subtler.

A note from Sonal
We get asked which car perfume is right for an electric car, and I have never been able to give the answer the question wants. There isn't one. A fragrance sits in a closed box of air with a person in it, and that box does not behave differently because the thing moving it is a battery. If anyone tells you otherwise they are selling you a category, not a product.
What I can tell you is what actually changes between two owners, because it is not subtle. One car is occupied ninety minutes a day and another is occupied six. One sits in a basement and one bakes outdoors for nine hours. One has the windows down for the first ten minutes of every drive and one never opens them at all. One is driven by three people who want three different things from it. Those differences are enormous, and none of them is on the spec sheet of the car.
So the numbers I would want you to hold on to are the ones about use rather than about chemistry. A 10ml spray is a hundred sprays. That is three months if you spray once a day and about fifty days if you spray twice, and if you spray before every one of four short errands it is gone in under a month. The hanging runs four to six weeks and you can loosen or tighten the stopper to change it. Those two facts settle more of these questions than anything I could tell you about the car.
And the part I will not pretend about: a perfume cannot fix a smell. It adds a scent, it does not remove one. If a car has started smelling of something it did not smell of before, that is a question about the car - the air-conditioning, the mats, something in the boot, water that got in during the monsoon - and adding fragrance on top of it is the one thing I would ask you not to do.
Frequently asked questions
Does an electric hatchback need a different car perfume from a petrol one?
No. SOSA publishes no petrol, diesel or electric product and makes no claim that a fragrance behaves differently according to what turns the wheels. A perfume sits in a closed volume of air with a person in it, and that situation is the same in either car. What does differ between two owners is how many separate journeys they make, whether the windows are open, where the car is parked and who else drives it.
How many sprays are in a bottle, and how long should that last?
A 10ml spray is published at 100 sprays and a 50ml at 500, with the 50ml stated as about a year and more. The 10ml working is published too: 3 months and above at one spray a day, or 50 days at two a day. Those are the only usage figures SOSA publishes for the sprays, so anything beyond them is your own arithmetic.
With the windows always shut, should I spray more or less?
Start at one and add nothing. SOSA publishes that the spray is a fine-mist atomizer and that one spray covers the cabin, and it publishes no cabin-volume or coverage figure for any car, so there is no number to scale up or down from. A shut cabin is not replacing its air quickly, so a second spray on the same journey is usually the point at which people find the bottle emptying faster than they expected.
Is the hanging a poor choice for short trips?
Not a poor one, just a different trade. It runs 4 to 6 weeks of continuous diffusion per 12ml bottle and its stopper loosens for stronger or tightens for subtler, so it is always on and never targeted. For a car parked most of the day, much of that output happens with nobody inside, which is a preference rather than a defect. It costs the same as the spray for the same scent, so budget is not the deciding factor.
Should I just buy the 50ml at the start?
The 50ml is Rs 1,499 and holds 500 sprays. It is the sensible size once you know your own rate, and on this driving pattern most people do not know it yet, because the number of short trips varies week to week. There is no spray refill, so the larger bottle is a commitment to a routine rather than a top-up of one.
Take the next step
Decide the rate first, then the format follows
A 10ml spray, ₹449 to ₹549, is 100 sprays you allocate: one a day is the published 3 months and above, two a day is 50 days. The 12ml hanging is the same price, runs 4 to 6 weeks continuously and is adjusted only by loosening or tightening its stopper. A spray combo is 200 sprays across two 10ml bottles, published at 100 days at two a day rotating. Tell SOSA how many separate journeys the car makes, how long the windows stay shut and who else is in it.
Not sure which one suits the person you are buying for? Send SOSA their age, whether they drive, whether they like their home scented and your budget on WhatsApp, and you will get an honest answer - including when the cheaper product is the better gift.

SOSA Safar is ₹3,999, or ₹4,499 for the hotel-inspired sets. What is not published, and is therefore not stated here: any difference in fragrance behaviour between petrol, diesel and electric vehicles - SOSA makes no powertrain-specific product and no powertrain claim; any cabin-volume, coverage, scent-throw, projection or evaporation figure; any claim about how a scent is perceived over hours or about sensory adaptation; any seasonal performance claim beyond the stated formulation for heat and humidity; any shelf life, expiry or concentration; and any bulk rate, minimum quantity, price break or lead time. Limits of this guide: fragrance adds a scent to a cabin. It does not remove, neutralise, mask or purify an odour, it does not clean the air, and a car that has developed a new smell is a question about the vehicle rather than about perfume. No health claim is made anywhere on this page, in either direction - nothing here states or implies that any fragrance causes or prevents a headache, nausea, motion sickness or any other effect, and nothing is said about safety in pregnancy or for children or the elderly, because SOSA publishes no information this page can rely on. No third-party brand is named and no competitor or category of competing product is characterised. No rating, review count, strength percentage or customer name from any product page is cited. Bulk orders are welcome and custom label or logo on product is available; that is the only branding option, and quantities are settled on WhatsApp. SOSA Home & Body is an Indian fragrance house based in Pune, Maharashtra, sending orders across India, with no shop, showroom, stockist, counter or warehouse in any other city. Prices and availability are subject to change - see the live product pages.
