India is the hardest brief I have ever formulated for. The same car can sit in a 65-degree car park in May and a dripping monsoon basement in July, and a freshener has to be honest in both. Most are not - they are made for a temperate room and simply give up here.
Heat is the first enemy
A parked-car dashboard can sit near 65 to 70 degrees in summer sun. That heat drains every fragrance - and it punishes alcohol sprays first.
The solvent flashes off, the cheap top notes collapse, and what is left turns sharp by afternoon. An alcohol-free, real-material composition holds its shape far better in the same heat. That is the whole reason I refused to use alcohol.
Then comes the monsoon. Damp gets into the upholstery and breeds that musty, closed-cabin smell, and a sweet freshener just stacks sugar on top of it.
