What buyers ask us about hotel and spa scents
Including the questions where the answer is "we do not make that" and "you cannot put that on your skin"
"I want to smell like a luxury hotel lobby. What do I buy?"
Usually a clean white musk with soft woods. In our range that is Adaa. What we will not do is tell you it reproduces any particular hotel, because it does not and we have no authorisation to try.
Hotel-inspired scent · answered by Sonal Sahani
"Can I wear my reed diffuser oil as a perfume?"
No. Reed oil is assessed for evaporation from a reed in a room, not for leave-on skin application. They are different use cases with different exposure, and we will not sell you one as the other.
Home against skin · answered by Sonal Sahani
"You make a lavender reed diffuser. Do you make a lavender attar?"
No. Evening Calm is Himalayan lavender and chamomile for a room. We do not make a lavender attar, and rather than steer you to something that is not lavender, we will tell you that plainly.
What we do not make · answered by Sonal Sahani
"I want white tea and clean hotel linen on my skin."
We do not make that as an attar. Adaa is the closest thing we have, and it is citrus and jasmine sambac over white musk rather than a linen accord. If linen is the point, we are not your brand for it.
Clean linen · answered by Sonal Sahani
"Which hotel is the Hotel Collection based on?"
It is our own interpretation of a style of hospitality scenting. SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel group, and it is an ultrasonic diffuser fragrance for rooms rather than a skin product.
Independence · answered by Sonal Sahani
"Will it last all day like my spray?"
We do not publish hour figures for any fragrance, because how long one seems to last depends on your skin, the weather and how quickly you stop noticing it. An oil-carried attar sits close rather than projecting.

This is the one hospitality style where I have to lead with a gap rather than a recommendation. The contemporary business-hotel atmosphere is built on fresh woods, meaning dry cedar or vetiver with clean musk and a citrus lift, and we do not make a fresh woody attar at all. Here is what the style is, what we do have, and how far apart they actually are.
Quick answers — read this first
What is the contemporary business-hotel style? Fresh woody: a dry cedar or vetiver base, clean musk, a citrus or aromatic lift, and deliberately no sweetness or resin. It reads as efficient, modern and unfussy rather than warm or ceremonial.

Does SOSA make it? No. We have no cedar attar and no vetiver attar. Our woods are sandalwood with oud and saffron, which is warm and resinous rather than dry and fresh. The nearest thing we have is Adaa, which is musk and citrus without the wood.

What should I do? If dry fresh wood is the heart of it, buy from a brand that makes one. If the clean musk and citrus lift is the part you love, Adaa at Rs 379 gets you most of the way without the woody floor.
The short answer
Short answer: The style is fresh woody: dry cedar or vetiver, clean musk, a citrus lift, no sweetness or resin. SOSA makes no cedar or vetiver attar, so we do not make this profile. Adaa at Rs 379 gives the clean musk and citrus without the dry woody floor.
The honest limit: no fragrance we sell reproduces any hotel, spa, resort or retail brand's proprietary scent, and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any of them. Where we do not make a family, we say so rather than recommending something adjacent.
Home is not skin: reed diffuser oil and the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance are assessed for room use and are not assessed or sold for application to skin. Attars and solid perfumes are the skin products.
Where a hotel-style scent actually lives - and what it is assessed forUltrasonic mist diffuser - water-based Hotel Collection fragrance, room useReed diffuser - its own alcohol-free reed oil, room useAttar or solid perfume - assessed for leave-on skinThe three do not interchangeA scent family can cross between them. A formulation cannot, because the exposure is different.
You can carry a scent family from a room to your skin. You cannot carry a formulation, because a product assessed for evaporating in a room has not been assessed for sitting on you. That distinction is the whole of this guide.
Straight answer
Which attar gives me a contemporary business-hotel feeling?
None of ours, properly, and I would rather open with that than work round to it. The style is fresh woody. A dry cedar or vetiver base, clean musk over it, a citrus or aromatic lift, and a deliberate absence of sweetness and resin. The effect reads as efficient, modern and unfussy, which is exactly the atmosphere a contemporary business hotel is buying. The key material is the dry wood: cedar or vetiver rather than sandalwood, because dryness is what makes it read as contemporary rather than traditional. We make no cedar attar and no vetiver attar. Our woods are sandalwood, and in both cases sandalwood sitting with oud and saffron, which is warm and resinous rather than dry and fresh. That is a genuinely different impression, not a near miss. So two honest options. If the dry fresh wood is the heart of what you want, buy from a brand that makes one; we are not it. If the clean musk and citrus lift is the part you actually love, then Adaa at ₹379 gets you a good distance, with bergamot and green cardamom over a white musk accord, and no woody floor underneath. Cedar exists in our Mountain Breeze reed diffuser for rooms and is not assessed for skin. +91 96192 18531.
Dry cedar or vetiver with clean musk. We make neither wood, so this one is a gap rather than a recommendation.
If the brief is clean, quiet and expensive-feeling, the honest starting point in our range is Adaa at ₹379 for 3ml. If it is polished woods, Nawaab at ₹399.

What the contemporary style is built from

It is worth understanding why dryness matters so much here, because it is the single distinction that separates this style from the heritage one and most buyers have never had it explained. Woods in perfumery divide roughly into creamy and dry. Creamy woods, of which sandalwood is the archetype, have a milky, rounded, slightly sweet quality that reads as warm and traditional. Dry woods, of which cedar and vetiver are the common examples, have a pencil-shaving or rootlike quality with no sweetness at all, and they read as modern, clean and a little austere. The contemporary hospitality style leans entirely on the second group, because austerity is the point: a business hotel is selling efficiency and calm competence rather than romance, and a creamy sweet wood would undermine that. Vetiver deserves a particular mention because it does something no other material does: it is simultaneously earthy and fresh, which is why it turns up in so many contemporary spaces. It reads as clean without being soapy and as natural without being sweet, and there is genuinely no substitute for it. If vetiver is what you remember, nothing in the sandalwood family will satisfy you, and I would rather you knew that than tried three of ours. The practical upshot is that this is a case where naming the gap is the most useful thing a brand can do. A seller who responds to a vetiver request by recommending a sandalwood attar is either not listening or hoping you cannot tell the difference, and you can tell the difference immediately.

1
Creamy against dry woods
The distinction that defines this style
Creamy woods such as sandalwood are milky, rounded and slightly sweet, and read as warm and traditional. Dry woods such as cedar and vetiver have a pencil-shaving or rootlike quality with no sweetness, and read as modern, clean and a little austere. The contemporary hospitality style leans entirely on the second group, because austerity is the point.
Tip: A business hotel sells efficiency and calm competence. A creamy sweet wood would undermine exactly that.
2
Vetiver has no substitute
Simultaneously earthy and fresh
Vetiver reads as clean without being soapy and natural without being sweet, which is a combination no other material offers. That is why it appears in so many contemporary spaces. If vetiver is what you remember, nothing in the sandalwood family will satisfy you, and trying three sandalwood attars will only cost you money.
3
What to do about our gap
Buy elsewhere, or buy the part we do have
If the dry fresh wood is the heart of it, a brand that makes a cedar or vetiver attar will serve you properly and we would rather send you there. If the clean musk and citrus lift is the part you love, Adaa gets you a good distance at ₹379 without the woody floor. Both are honest answers and only one of them is a sale for us.
Tip: A seller who answers a vetiver request with a sandalwood attar is not listening, and you will notice immediately.
The SOSA principle
If vetiver is what you remember, no sandalwood attar will satisfy you. A seller who offers you one either is not listening or is hoping you cannot tell.
We make no cedar and no vetiver, so on this particular brief the useful thing we can do is name the gap clearly.

The honest gap in our range

What we have against this brief, with the distance stated. Adaa at ₹379 gives you the clean musk and the citrus-aromatic lift, with bergamot and green cardamom over a white musk accord. What it does not give you is the dry woody floor, so expect clean-and-bright rather than clean-and-austere. Nawaab at ₹399 and Ameeri at ₹385 are woody and are the wrong kind of woody for this: sandalwood with oud and saffron is warm and resinous. Among our solids, Titan at ₹500 has burnt wood and black pepper, which is dry rather than creamy, and it also has arabica coffee and toasted sugar over it, so it is a gourmand rather than a contemporary clean. Named rather than implied.

The SOSA scent edit
The contemporary style, and our distance from it
Scent Why it suits the mood
What the style needs A dry cedar or vetiver base, clean musk, a citrus or aromatic lift, and no sweetness or resin at all
Adaa 3ml ₹379 · partial Gives the clean musk and citrus lift. No dry woody floor, so clean-and-bright rather than clean-and-austere
Nawaab ₹399 and Ameeri ₹385 · wrong kind Woody, but sandalwood with oud and saffron. Warm and resinous, which is the opposite of dry and fresh
Titan solid ₹500 · no Burnt wood and black pepper is dry, and arabica coffee and toasted sugar sit over it. A gourmand rather than a clean contemporary

For the dry-against-creamy distinction in full, creamy sandalwood or dry cedarwood for a boutique hotel feeling. For the fresh-rather-than-oriental question more broadly, citrus-woody and aromatic musk attars for fresh not oriental luxury. And if vetiver specifically is the memory, whether vetiver and sandalwood can evoke a spa without smelling medicinal explains what vetiver does and where ours lives. Ask us at +91 96192 18531. What SOSA actually makes

Every SOSA attar and solid perfume is alcohol-free and assessed for leave-on skin application. Our reed diffusers and the Hotel Collection ultrasonic fragrance are home products and are not assessed for skin. Here is the range with the honest description of each, including the families we do not make at all.

What we actually make, and what each one is for
One genuinely clean attar, two woody ones, two musk-based solids, and a room fragrance that is not for skin
Product Where it sits What it is, honestly From
Adaa attar 3ml The clean one · closest to a hotel lobby Bergamot, green cardamom, jasmine sambac and a white musk accord. The only genuinely clean, airy composition in our attar range, and the honest answer to most hotel-inspired requests ₹379
Nawaab attar 3ml Polished woods · expensive interiors White royal oud, Mysore sandalwood and Kashmir saffron. For wooden-interior and quiet-luxury requests rather than clean-linen ones ₹399
Ameeri attar 3ml Warm sandalwood · heritage hospitality Taif rose, Indian sandalwood, saffron and soft oudh. Rose inside a warm resinous structure, closest to a grand Indian hotel atmosphere ₹385
Velour solid 15g White musk base · skin-close Toasted almond and whipped cream over a white musk base. Soft and skin-close, and sweeter than a hotel-clean scent, which we would rather say than imply ₹479
Sterling solid 15g Powdered musk · refined Almond nougat and white amber over powdered musk. Refined and velvety, and genuinely powdery, so not for anyone who has told us they dislike powder ₹469
Hotel Collection 15ml Rooms only · never skin Water-based fragrance for ultrasonic mist diffusers. Our own interpretation of hospitality scenting, for air rather than for people ₹299

Attars come in 3ml, 6ml and 12ml: Adaa ₹379 / ₹669 / ₹1,149; Ameeri ₹385 / ₹679 / ₹1,165; Mastani ₹389 / ₹685 / ₹1,179; Nawaab ₹399 / ₹699 / ₹1,199; the three-attar trio ₹1,055 / ₹1,859 / ₹3,189 against ₹1,173 / ₹2,063 / ₹3,543 bought singly. Solid body perfumes are 15g, alcohol-free, from ₹459. What we do not make as a skin fragrance: white tea, clean linen or cotton musk, lavender, vetiver, cedarwood, aquatic or marine, and pine. Several of those exist in our home range and are not assessed for skin. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

A note from Sonal

"I want to smell like a five-star hotel" is one of my favourite things a customer can say, because it tells me far more than a note list would. It tells me you want clean rather than sweet, quiet rather than loud, and expensive-feeling rather than obviously perfumed. That is a brief I can work with.

It also comes with two things I have to be straight with you about. The first is that I cannot sell you a hotel's scent. Those are proprietary compositions made for specific groups, and anybody offering you a reproduction is either guessing or doing something they should not. SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel group. What I can do is work in the same fragrance families and say so honestly.

The second is harder on my own sales. Our home fragrances are not for your skin. Reed oil is assessed for evaporating from a reed in a room. The Hotel Collection is a water-based fragrance for an ultrasonic mist diffuser. Neither has been assessed for leave-on application to a person, and the exposure is completely different. I will not sell you one as the other, however much you like how it smells in your hallway.

And there are things we simply do not make. No lavender attar. No vetiver attar. No white tea, no clean linen, no cedarwood, no aquatic. Several of those scents live in our reed diffusers and stay there. If that is what you came for, I would rather tell you than sell you something adjacent and hope you do not notice. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

What is the contemporary business-hotel fragrance style?
Fresh woody: a dry cedar or vetiver base, clean musk over it, a citrus or aromatic lift, and a deliberate absence of sweetness and resin. The effect reads as efficient, modern and unfussy rather than warm or ceremonial.
Why does dryness matter so much here?
Because creamy woods such as sandalwood are milky and slightly sweet and read as warm and traditional, while dry woods such as cedar and vetiver have a pencil-shaving quality with no sweetness and read as modern and austere. Austerity is the point of this style.
Does SOSA make a fresh woody attar?
No. We make no cedar attar and no vetiver attar. Our woods are sandalwood sitting with oud and saffron, which is warm and resinous rather than dry and fresh. That is a genuinely different impression rather than a near miss.
What is the nearest thing SOSA has?
Adaa at Rs 379, which gives the clean musk and the citrus-aromatic lift with bergamot and green cardamom over a white musk accord. What it lacks is the dry woody floor, so expect clean-and-bright rather than clean-and-austere.
What should I do if vetiver is what I remember?
Buy from a brand that makes a vetiver attar. Nothing in the sandalwood family will satisfy you, and a seller who answers a vetiver request with a sandalwood recommendation either is not listening or is hoping you cannot tell the difference.
Buy the family, not the brand name

Formulation and use: SOSA attars are formulated with an oil carrier and no added ethanol, contain no intentionally added DEP, and are assessed as leave-on fine fragrance applied to skin at their actual selling concentration. Supplier IFRA conformity statements, declarable-allergen lists and the finished-product safety assessment are available per product on WhatsApp on +91 96192 18531; formula compositions and percentages are not disclosed. Reed diffuser oil and the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance are assessed for room use and are not assessed or sold for application to skin. SOSA does not describe its products as chemical-free, hypoallergenic or safe for everyone, publishes no longevity or hour figures, and makes no claim to reproduce any hotel, spa, resort or retail brand's proprietary fragrance. SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel, hospitality or fashion group. Prices and availability are subject to change - see the live collection pages.

General context: Fragrance safety standards set limits by product use category, so a composition assessed for diffusion in a room has not thereby been assessed for leave-on skin exposure.
