A budget is a characteristic too. It narrows the search before any note does, and under a thousand rupees it still leaves more than one honest option. This page lists the six things worth comparing, in the order that matters, and keeps your ceiling separate from anyone's price.
Quick answers — read this first
What should I compare in a subtle hot-weather attar? Six things: the base, how fast the opening leaves, the format, the stated wear, whether the pyramid is published in full, and the size ladder against your ceiling. Read the base first. It decides what is left at hour three.

Does a thousand-rupee ceiling rule anything out? The 12ml attars, the Attar Trio at every size, and the 50ml and 100ml of the perfume oils. The 3ml and 6ml of every SOSA attar sit under it, and so does the 10ml of Khayaal, at today's listed prices.

Which SOSA attar suits this brief? SOSA Adaa, from ₹379 for 3ml: bergamot, green cardamom and neroli, then white musk, vetiver and cedarwood. The lightest of the four, with no oudh.
The short answer
Short answer: Compare the base first, then the opening, the format, the stated wear, the pyramid and the size ladder. Subtle means a dry base and a short top.
The pick: One 3ml of SOSA Adaa at ₹379. Its 6ml at ₹669 also fits your ceiling, and so does a second small bottle beside it.
Next step: Wear one dab across three ordinary hot days and judge at hour three. Tell us what you ruled out and we will narrow it.
Six characteristics to compare, in order1. Base: dry or sweet, read from the bottom of the pyramid2. Opening: how fast the top leaves3. Format and wear: a dosable oil; 6–8 hours on skin4. Pyramid: published in full, so every note is readable5. Size ladder: Rs 379 for 3ml, Rs 669 for 6ml
The six characteristics on five lines, because format and stated wear share one. The size ladder is last on purpose: price comes after you know what you are pricing.
Adaa first; the two warmer attars fit the ceiling but not the brief
Straight answer
I Want a Subtle Everyday Attar Under ₹1,000 for Hot Weather — Which Product Characteristics Should I Compare?
Compare the base first, the speed of the opening second, then the format, the stated wear and the size ladder. The ceiling is yours and it comes last. Here is the sequence in five steps.

1. Compare the base before anything else. What is left on your skin at hour three is what you actually wear. Musk and dry wood read as subtle in hot weather; amber, oud, vanilla and tonka read fuller. SOSA Adaa has white musk, vetiver and cedarwood.

2. Compare how fast the opening leaves. Bergamot, neroli and green cardamom are bright and brief, which suits hot weather. A citrus top on a heavy base is the cologne-counter smell, so look past the top and read what sits beneath it.

3. Compare the format and the dose. A roll-on oil gives you a dab to count, and one dab is a whisper. Compare the stated wear too: SOSA states 6–8 hours on skin and nothing more. That tells you about duration, not about intensity.

4. Compare the size ladder against your ceiling. At today's listed prices, the 3ml and 6ml of every SOSA attar are under a thousand rupees and the 12ml sizes are not. Two 3ml attars together are under it, and so are Adaa's 3ml and Khayaal's 10ml.

5. Then choose, and test. One 3ml of Adaa at ₹379, one dab, three hot days, judged at hour three. Anything beyond that is a decision for after the test, not before it.

What anyone else makes of it is not a characteristic a comparison can include. What it can do is tell you what each product is built from, so that the ceiling you set is spent on the right bottle.
Compare the base, the opening, the format, the stated wear and the size ladder, in that order. SOSA Adaa at ₹379 for 3ml fits a thousand-rupee ceiling, and so does its 6ml at ₹669.
What to buy under your ceiling
The product SOSA Adaa, the lightest of the four attars and the only one with no oudh: an alcohol-free roll-on oil on a sandalwood and jojoba carrier, hand-blended in Pune.
The size to start on The 3ml, at ₹379. The 6ml at ₹669 also fits your ceiling, but the 12ml at ₹1,149 does not, and it is a purchase for after a full season anyway.
Dabs, and where One dab, on the chest or the side of the neck, once you have arrived. One dab reads as almost nothing and two reads as a choice.
At hour three The citrus has gone. What is left, by the published pyramid, is white musk with vetiver and cedarwood, dry and close.
What it costs to stay on it Nothing beyond the first 3ml until the test is done. After that, a second small bottle still fits under your ceiling: Adaa's 3ml and Khayaal's 10ml together do, at today's listed prices.
A thousand rupees is a more generous ceiling for this brief than most people expect. The 3ml of Adaa leaves room under it, and the room is best spent on a second small bottle to compare against, not on a bigger first one. Find out first, then decide.

Buy one 3ml of SOSA Adaa at ₹379 and keep the rest of your ceiling for after the test: Calabrian bergamot, green cardamom and neroli on top, jasmine sambac, magnolia and ylang ylang in the heart, white musk, vetiver and cedarwood underneath. An alcohol-free roll-on oil, hand-blended in Pune, with no oudh. One dab, three ordinary hot days, judged at hour three.

The attars that fit the ceiling, and what each asks

Price is not the thing that separates the four attars under a thousand rupees; the base is. All four are alcohol-free, DPG-free roll-on oils on a sandalwood and jojoba carrier, in 3ml, 6ml and 12ml, and the small sizes of each sit under your ceiling. The question is which floor you want on a hot day.

SOSA Adaa
The lightest floor, and the best fit for this brief
SOSA Adaa
₹379 for 3ml, ₹669 for 6ml, ₹1,149 for 12ml. Calabrian bergamot, green cardamom and neroli over jasmine sambac, magnolia and ylang ylang, on white musk, vetiver and cedarwood. The lightest of the four, with no oudh. Both its 3ml and its 6ml fit under your ceiling, and its dry floor is the subtle one.
From ₹379
SOSA Ameeri
Also under the ceiling, and warmer by design
SOSA Ameeri
₹385 for 3ml, ₹679 for 6ml, ₹1,165 for 12ml. Persian saffron, pink pepper and bergamot over Taif rose and Indian sandalwood, on soft oudh, amber and white musk. Its 3ml and 6ml fit too, but the oudh and amber make it fuller than Adaa, so it reads as a second bottle for a different day.
From ₹385
SOSA Attar Trio
The boxed set, and why it sits above the ceiling
SOSA Attar Trio · alcohol-free roll-on attar
₹1,055 for 3ml, ₹1,859 for 6ml, ₹3,189 for 12ml. Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani together, one size each. The smallest size is above a thousand-rupee ceiling, and the set leaves out Adaa, the lightest attar, so it is not the answer to this brief. It is worth knowing about only if your ceiling moves.

Six characteristics, in the order that matters

None of these is a promise about your nose. Each is a property you can read from a listing before you spend anything, and the order matters because the first ones settle the question before the last ones are reached.

1
One
Compare the base, then the top, in that order
A hot-weather attar is judged at hour three, when the opening has gone and the base is what is left on your skin. Musk and dry woods, as in Adaa's white musk, vetiver and cedarwood, read as close and quiet. Amber, oud, vanilla and tonka read fuller, and they sweeten as the day warms. The top is the introduction: bergamot, neroli and green cardamom are bright and brief. A short bright top on a dry base is the shape to look for. A bright top on a heavy base is only the opening of something fuller.
Tip: Read the pyramid from the bottom. If the base lists oud, amber or vanilla, expect something fuller than subtle.
SOSA Adaa
Adaa at ₹379 has a short bright top and a dry musk and wood floor, the shape this comparison points to.
See SOSA Adaa →
2
Two
Compare the format, the carrier and the stated wear
Format decides whether you can dose. A roll-on oil gives you a dab to count, which a spray does not, and one dab is a whisper. All four SOSA attars are alcohol-free, DPG-free roll-ons on a sandalwood and jojoba carrier, so they are comparable on that axis. Stated wear is a separate axis. SOSA states 6–8 hours on skin and nothing further, and that figure describes duration, not intensity. A fragrance can last as long as another and be a good deal quieter.
Tip: Do not read a longer stated wear as a stronger scent. Compare intensity through the base, and duration through the figure.
SOSA Mastani
Mastani at ₹389 states the same wear as Adaa, but its vanilla, tonka and oudh floor makes it a good deal fuller.
See SOSA Mastani →
3
Three
Compare the size ladder against your ceiling, not just the entry price
The entry price is the first thing you see and the least useful. What helps is the ladder. At today's listed prices, the 3ml and 6ml of every SOSA attar are under a thousand rupees and the 12ml sizes are not. The Attar Trio is above it from its smallest size. Adaa's 3ml and Khayaal's 10ml together are under it as well. That means your ceiling buys the test and the comparison bottle, not just one decision.
Tip: Spend the first part of the ceiling on finding out, and keep the rest until hour three on the third day.
SOSA Attar Trio
The Attar Trio at ₹1,055 for its smallest size is above the ceiling, and it does not include Adaa, so it is not this brief.
See SOSA Attar Trio →
The SOSA principle
A ceiling does not choose the fragrance. It tells you how many small bottles you can afford to be wrong with, and that number is more useful than the price of any one of them.
That is why the 3ml matters more than the 12ml on a budget. Subtlety is found on your own skin, and the cheapest way to find it is the smallest bottle, worn on three ordinary hot days.
SOSA Adaa
The attar that fits both the ceiling and the brief: Adaa at ₹379: Calabrian bergamot, green cardamom and neroli over three white flowers, on white musk, vetiver and cedarwood. The lightest of the four attars, with no oudh, in 3ml, 6ml and 12ml.

The comparison, row by row

The table sets out each characteristic, what to look for, and what SOSA actually publishes about it. It is the same checklist you can run against any listing, from any brand, before you spend a rupee of your ceiling.

The SOSA plan
Six characteristics, what to look for, and what SOSA publishes
The characteristic What to look for, and what SOSA publishes
SOSA AdaaBase notes: what is left at hour three
Look for musk and dry wood, not amber, vanilla or oud. Adaa's base is white musk, vetiver and cedarwood,. View →
Opening: how fast the top leaves
Bergamot, neroli and green spice leave quickly. Adaa opens with Calabrian bergamot, green cardamom and neroli. Judge the base, not the opening.
Format and carrier: can you dose it
A roll-on oil gives you a dab to count. All four SOSA attars are alcohol-free, DPG-free roll-ons on a sandalwood and jojoba carrier.
Stated wear: what the maker commits to
SOSA states 6–8 hours on skin for the attars, and nothing further. Read any bigger figure carefully, and ask where it was measured.
Published pyramid: can you read every note
A listing that names its top, heart and base lets you run every other comparison. SOSA publishes the full pyramid of all four attars, which is why this table can be filled in at all.
Size ladder against your ceiling
Adaa's 3ml and 6ml are both under it and its 12ml is above it. The Trio is above it from its smallest size. Khayaal's 10ml is under it.

If the heat is the main problem, light musk, vetiver and aromatic attars for readers who dislike heavy perfume takes up the composition side. If the question is when to put it on, before leaving home or after reaching the office answers it, and the version with city, commute, intensity and budget together ends in one bottle and a first week. Or name your ceiling and we will tell you plainly what fits it.

SOSA Mastani
Under the ceiling, and the wrong shape for hot weather: Mastani at ₹389 has night-blooming jasmine and Damask rose over Mysore sandalwood, oudh, Madagascar vanilla and tonka. The 3ml and 6ml fit, and the floor is far fuller than this brief wants.
One bigger bottle, or two small ones?
The fork under your ceiling is depth or range. A 6ml of Adaa goes further into one fragrance. A 3ml of Adaa and a 10ml of Khayaal let you compare soft with clear, and still come in under it.
See the SOSA AdaaSee the SOSA Khayaal
A ceiling does not choose the fragrance. It tells you how many small bottles you can afford to be wrong with, and on a budget that is the number worth knowing.

The SOSA specification under your ceiling

Two rows. Adaa is the answer for the reader who wants a subtle dry floor, and Khayaal is the answer for the one who wants airy and clear. Both fit under a thousand-rupee ceiling at their smallest size, and the note says what that means.

Both rows start small: the 3ml of Adaa at ₹379, or the 10ml of Khayaal at ₹599. The ceiling here is yours, not SOSA's, and the statements about what fits under it hold at today's listed prices, which are subject to change: ₹379 for 3ml, ₹669 for 6ml, ₹1,149 for 12ml for Adaa, and ₹599 for 10ml, ₹1,899 for 50ml, ₹3,599 for 100ml for Khayaal. SOSA states 6–8 hours on skin for the attars and nothing further; how long any fragrance lasts depends on skin, dose, clothing and the day. A patch test on first use is the only skin advice we give. I cannot tell you what anyone else will make of it, and I will not try. Ours is a contact page and a person who replies: Ask for an attar recommendation and tell us the ceiling you have in mind.

A note from Sonal

People write to me with a budget first and a fragrance second, and I used to think that was the wrong order. I do not any more. A ceiling is a fact about your week, and it is a more honest place to start than a mood. What I ask in return is that the ceiling is yours: it is not a price I am quoting, and nothing on this page should read as one.

What I do with a ceiling is count bottles. The 3ml of Adaa leaves room under a thousand rupees for a second small bottle, and the second is where the learning is. Wear the first for three days. If it is the right shape, you have your answer and the rest of the ceiling is yours to keep. If it is almost right, the second bottle tells you which way to move, and you have still not spent a larger bottle on a guess.

The one thing I would ask you to resist is comparing on the entry price alone, because it says nothing about what is left on your skin at hour three. Read the base. What anyone else makes of it I cannot promise, so the measure is the one you set, on your own skin, in the weather you actually have. A portion of every purchase supports Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

Is a thousand rupees enough for a good everyday attar?
Enough to start well. At today's listed prices the 3ml and 6ml of every SOSA attar are under it, including SOSA Adaa at ₹379 and ₹669. Whether it is good for you is something only hour three on your own skin can tell you, which is why the 3ml is the test.
Which characteristic matters most for a subtle attar?
The base. It is what remains on your skin once the opening has gone, and it decides whether the fragrance reads as close and quiet or as fuller. Musk and dry woods lean subtle; amber, oud, vanilla and tonka lean the other way.
Should I buy two small bottles or one larger one?
Two small ones, to start, if your ceiling allows. A 3ml of Adaa and a 10ml of Khayaal together stay under a thousand rupees at today's listed prices, and they let you compare soft with clear. Buy the larger size only after a season with the first.
Does a lower price mean a lighter fragrance?
No. Price and intensity are separate things, and the way to read intensity is the pyramid, from the bottom up. SOSA Nawaab, the deepest attar, has a 3ml that fits under your ceiling too. Affordable is not the same as subtle.
What does the stated wear tell me?
Duration only. SOSA states 6–8 hours on skin for the attars, and nothing further. It does not describe how loud a fragrance is. Two products with the same stated wear can be very different in intensity, so compare the base, not the hours.
SOSA Nawaab
Under the ceiling in small sizes, and not for this search: Nawaab at ₹399 is white royal oud, Mysore sandalwood, Kashmir saffron and aged tobacco leaf over amber, leather and white musk. The deepest of the four, so affordable is not the same as subtle.

Facts verified 16 October 2026 against the live SOSA product pages: SOSA makes four attars, all alcohol-free, DPG-free roll-on perfume oils on a sandalwood and jojoba carrier, hand-blended in Pune and sold in 3ml, 6ml and 12ml, with a stated wear of 6–8 hours on skin: Adaa (top Calabrian bergamot, green cardamom, neroli; heart jasmine sambac, magnolia, ylang ylang; base white musk, vetiver, cedarwood; no oudh) from ₹379, Ameeri (top Persian saffron, pink pepper, bergamot; heart Taif rose, Indian sandalwood; base soft oudh, amber, white musk) from ₹385, Mastani (top litchi, bergamot, pink pepper; heart night-blooming jasmine, Damask rose; base Mysore sandalwood, oudh, Madagascar vanilla, tonka) from ₹389 and Nawaab (top white royal oud, Mysore sandalwood, Kashmir saffron, aged tobacco leaf; base amber, leather, white musk) from ₹399, plus the Attar Trio (Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani) from ₹1,055. Khayaal is a perfume oil, not an attar (sparkling bergamot, neroli, black tea, amberwood), from ₹599 for 10ml. White musk is a base note in Adaa, Ameeri and Nawaab; SOSA makes no pure musk soliflore.
