Oud is not one smell. People who love it usually love one particular behaviour of it, whether dry and dark, soft and rosy or sweet and floral, and the right attar is the one that matches that behaviour rather than the one with the biggest oud note.
Quick answers — read this first
Which oud attar should I start with? If you want oud met head-on, SOSA Nawaab at ₹399. If you want it softened by rose and saffron, SOSA Ameeri at ₹385. If you want it under night flowers with some sweetness, SOSA Mastani at ₹389. Start with a 3ml of the one that matches.

Is every SOSA attar an oud attar? No. Three of the four carry oud and one, SOSA Adaa, does not. Only SOSA Nawaab is oud-led; Ameeri and Mastani carry oud under rose and night flowers. If oud is what you came for, Adaa is not your bottle.

What if I cannot choose between the three? The boxed Trio from ₹1,055 holds Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani together, one 3ml of each oud. It is the sensible purchase for anyone who would otherwise spend a month deciding.
The short answer
Short answer: There is no single oud attar to buy, because the range holds three different ouds: SOSA Nawaab dry and head-on, SOSA Ameeri softened by rose and saffron, and SOSA Mastani under night flowers with sweetness.
The pick: Match the attar to what you want oud to be doing. Dry, dark and central: Nawaab at ₹399. Soft and rosy: Ameeri at ₹385. Sweet and floral: Mastani at ₹389. One 3ml, not three.
Next step: Tell us which oud perfume you wear now and what you would change about it, and we will name one of the three. Ask for an attar recommendation.

Straight answer
I Love Oud Perfumes — Which Attar Should I Buy?
SOSA makes three attars that carry oud, and they are three genuinely different oud perfumes. Choose by what you want oud to be doing rather than by the oud note itself, and buy a 3ml first. The whole decision in five steps.

1. Name what you love about oud. Most oud lovers love one behaviour: the dry dark wood itself, the rose and saffron softness around it, or the depth oud gives a sweet floral. Those are three different perfumes that happen to share an ingredient.

2. If it is the dry dark wood, buy Nawaab. SOSA Nawaab at ₹399 opens on white royal oud, Mysore sandalwood, Kashmir saffron and aged tobacco leaf, over amber, leather and white musk. It is the deepest in the range and oud-led from the first minute.

3. If it is oud softened, buy Ameeri. SOSA Ameeri at ₹385 is Persian saffron, pink pepper and bergamot over Taif rose and Indian sandalwood, on soft oudh, amber and white musk. Oud with the edges rounded by rose and saffron.

4. If it is oud under flowers, buy Mastani. SOSA Mastani at ₹389 is litchi, bergamot and pink pepper over night-blooming jasmine and Damask rose, on Mysore sandalwood, oudh, Madagascar vanilla and tonka. Real sweetness, with oud underneath it.

5. Buy the 3ml and judge it at hour three. One dab, three ordinary days, in the season you will wear it. SOSA states 6–8 hours on skin and nothing beyond that; how far it carries depends on your skin, your dose and the weather.

Nobody can promise you what anyone else will think of it, and I am not going to. What a fragrance can be is consistent, close and distinctive. What it does in someone else's head is theirs.
Dry and dark: SOSA Nawaab at ₹399. Soft and rosy: SOSA Ameeri at ₹385. Sweet and floral: SOSA Mastani at ₹389. One 3ml, one dab, judged at hour three.
If you buy only one, make it the 3ml of whichever oud you meant. The oud-led one is SOSA Nawaab at ₹399; the softer one is SOSA Ameeri at ₹385; the sweeter, floral one is SOSA Mastani at ₹389. All three are alcohol-free roll-on oils on a sandalwood and jojoba carrier, with a dab applicator.

The three oud attars, side by side

SOSA makes four attars and three of them carry oud. All four are alcohol-free oils on a sandalwood and jojoba carrier, hand-blended in Pune, with a dab applicator, in 3ml, 6ml and 12ml. The two below are the poles of the oud map, oud met directly and oud softened by rose; the sweet one follows in the feature card underneath.

SOSA Nawaab
Oud head-on: dry, dark and the deepest of the four
SOSA Nawaab
₹399 for 3ml, ₹699 for 6ml, ₹1,199 for 12ml. White royal oud, Mysore sandalwood, Kashmir saffron and aged tobacco leaf over amber, leather and white musk. Oud is the subject of the sentence rather than a note in the middle, and nothing floral stands between you and it. A 3ml is the honest way to find out whether that is the oud you meant.
From ₹399
SOSA Ameeri
Oud softened by rose, saffron and amber
SOSA Ameeri
₹385 for 3ml, ₹679 for 6ml, ₹1,165 for 12ml. Persian saffron, pink pepper and bergamot over Taif rose and Indian sandalwood, on soft oudh, amber and white musk. SOSA's own line for it is “the scent of old money”. The oud is real, but it sits under the rose and saffron instead of in front of them.
From ₹385
SOSA Mastani
Oud under night flowers, with real sweetness in the base
SOSA Mastani · alcohol-free roll-on attar
₹389 for 3ml, ₹685 for 6ml, ₹1,179 for 12ml. Litchi, bergamot and pink pepper over night-blooming jasmine and Damask rose, on Mysore sandalwood, oudh, Madagascar vanilla and tonka. The deep floral-gourmand of the three: the oud is in the base, but jasmine, rose and vanilla speak first, and it is the sweetest of the oud bottles.

Three things oud can be doing

People who love oud usually love one behaviour of it, and it is rarely the same behaviour from one person to the next. These are the three, what each wants from a perfume, and which SOSA bottle gives it. Read for the one that sounds like the oud you already wear.

1
One
Oud as a dry, dark wood that is the point of the perfume
This is oud as the subject. The perfume is built around it rather than around something it is dressed in: nothing sweet comes first and nothing floral stands between you and the wood. The supporting cast is dark and dry as well, tobacco, leather and amber, and it extends the oud instead of competing with it. If the thing you love is the wood itself, this is the behaviour you want. It is also the one most likely to feel like a lot if you are new to attars, which is why a single dab is the starting dose and a 3ml is the starting bottle.
Tip: One dab on a pulse point for the first week. With a dry oud, the second dab is where a whisper becomes a sentence.
SOSA Nawaab
Nawaab at ₹399 is the oud-led one: white royal oud, Mysore sandalwood, Kashmir saffron and aged tobacco leaf over amber, leather and white musk. The deepest in the range.
See SOSA Nawaab →
2
Two
Oud softened, where rose and saffron do the framing
Here oud is present but not alone. Rose and saffron arrive first and set the register, and the oud sits underneath as depth rather than as a statement. It reads as polished rather than severe. If you have ever worn an oud perfume and decided you loved the idea of it more than the smell, too sharp or too austere on your own skin, this is the behaviour to try. The oud is still real; it has simply been given a room to sit in. Saffron and amber carry the warmth, rose carries the elegance, and the sandalwood carrier ties them together.
Tip: Judge it at hour three, not at the first sniff. The opening and the drydown of a rose-and-saffron oud are two different perfumes.
SOSA Ameeri
Ameeri at ₹385 is Persian saffron and pink pepper over Taif rose and Indian sandalwood, on soft oudh, amber and white musk. Oud with the edges rounded.
See SOSA Ameeri →
3
Three
Oud as one voice in a sweet, floral-gourmand composition
Some oud lovers do not want a dry wood at all. They want the depth oud gives a sweet perfume: night flowers, vanilla, a little warmth in the base. Here the oud is a foundation rather than a feature. The florals lead, the sweetness is real rather than a hint, and the oud is the reason it never turns into a simple vanilla. If your favourite oud perfumes are the ones that also smell of roses and jasmine, this is probably the behaviour you were choosing when you said you loved oud.
Tip: If sweet perfumes are not your thing, skip this one on principle. The vanilla and tonka are a real part of it, not a trace.
SOSA Mastani
Mastani at ₹389 is litchi, bergamot and pink pepper over night-blooming jasmine and Damask rose, on Mysore sandalwood, oudh, Madagascar vanilla and tonka.
See SOSA Mastani →
The SOSA principle
Oud is an ingredient, not a style. What you like when you say you like oud perfumes is usually the company the oud keeps: dry tobacco and leather, rose and saffron, or jasmine and vanilla. That company is the thing to buy.
Read the range that way and three oud attars stops being a confusing choice and becomes three answers to three different questions, each at a 3ml price you can afford to be wrong at.
SOSA Nawaab
For oud met head-on, dry, dark and direct: Nawaab at ₹399 is white royal oud, Mysore sandalwood, Kashmir saffron and aged tobacco leaf, over amber, leather and white musk. It is oud-led from the first minute, which is the point of it and also the reason to begin with one dab.

A week of ordinary wear with each oud

The table runs a week rather than a first impression, because oud is the family where the first impression misleads most. Take one bottle at a time, one dab, and give each a fair run in the season you will actually wear it.

The SOSA plan
How to run the three oud attars through a week without confusing them
The day, and what you are testing The dose, and what to write down
SOSA NawaabDay one, Nawaab, an ordinary working day
One dab on one wrist. At hour three, write down whether you still want the oud out in front or would like something around it. That sentence tells you which of the other two to try next. View →
SOSA AmeeriDay two, Ameeri, the same ordinary day again
One dab on one wrist. Notice the order: saffron and rose first, sandalwood next, the oud under both. At hour three, ask whether the oud felt softened enough or too far away. View →
SOSA MastaniDay three, Mastani, on a cooler ordinary evening
One dab, applied before you leave. The jasmine and rose come first and the vanilla and tonka later. At hour three, ask whether the sweetness is a pleasure or a distraction from the oud. View →
Day four, whichever one you reached for twice
Two dabs of the one you wanted again, on an ordinary day. If you still want it at the end of the week, that is the 6ml. If you cannot choose, the Trio exists for exactly that.

Run the week and one of three things happens. Either one of the three is plainly yours, which is the whole point, or two of them are, on different days, which is common among oud lovers and is the argument for owning both. Or none of them is, and that is information too: SOSA makes no incense-resin scent, so if what you love in oud is the smoke around it rather than the wood, write to us and say so. If you wear oud EDPs already, the honest case for adding an oil beside them covers it, including for readers who do not need one. If smoke is the thing you want less of, the guide to oud without the smoke separates the two. And if saffron and amber are what you listen for, oud with saffron and amber has a literal answer.

SOSA Mastani
For oud under flowers, with real sweetness: Mastani at ₹389 is litchi and pink pepper over night-blooming jasmine and Damask rose, on Mysore sandalwood, oudh, Madagascar vanilla and tonka. The oud is in the base rather than in front of the florals.
One oud, chosen in an email rather than in a week
Tell us which oud perfume you wear now and what you would change about it, and we will name one of the three and one size.

Oud is not one smell. It is the dry dark wood, the rose-softened wood and the wood under night flowers, and the right bottle is the one doing what you love.

The SOSA specification for an oud lover

Three rows, one per oud, each at 3ml. You do not need all three; you need the one that matches what you want oud to be doing, and the other two are a decision for a month from now rather than for today.

All three rows are 3ml. The 6ml and 12ml of the same composition are the right purchase after a full season, not instead of it: ₹399 for 3ml, ₹699 for 6ml, ₹1,199 for 12ml for Nawaab, ₹385 for 3ml, ₹679 for 6ml, ₹1,165 for 12ml for Ameeri and ₹389 for 3ml, ₹685 for 6ml, ₹1,179 for 12ml for Mastani. SOSA Adaa carries no oud, so it is not on this table; it is the lightest of the four and a different conversation. If choosing is the obstacle, the boxed set of three from ₹1,055 removes it. SOSA states 6–8 hours on skin and nothing further; how far a fragrance carries depends on skin, dose, clothing and the weather, and varies from person to person. Nobody can promise you what anyone else will think of it, and I am not going to. A patch test on first use is the only advice I will give on skin. Ours is a contact page and a person who replies; Ask for an attar recommendation and tell us which oud you wear now.

A note from Sonal

When someone tells me they love oud, I have learned to ask a second question before I name a bottle: what do you want it to be doing? Oud is a material, and a material can be the whole subject of a perfume or one voice among several. A person who loves oud as a dry wood and a person who loves it as the depth under a rose are describing two different perfumes with the same word, and neither of them is wrong.

That is why SOSA has three oud attars and not one. Nawaab is oud met head-on, with tobacco leaf, leather and amber around it. Ameeri is oud softened by saffron and Taif rose. Mastani is oud under night-blooming jasmine, with real sweetness in the base. They share a sandalwood and jojoba carrier and very little else. They are three compositions, not three strengths of one, and I would rather you chose between them than assumed they were interchangeable.

What I will not do is tell you which one you will love. Nobody can promise you what anyone else will think of how you smell, and your own preference is the only part that was ever yours. Buy the 3ml, use one dab, and judge it at hour three on an ordinary day. If the first bottle is wrong, you have lost the price of a 3ml and learned something true about your own taste, which is a better outcome than a 12ml bought on a note list. A portion of every purchase supports Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

Is every attar in the SOSA range an oud attar?
No. SOSA Adaa at ₹379 is composed with no oud at all: bergamot, green cardamom and neroli over jasmine sambac, magnolia and ylang ylang, on white musk, vetiver and cedarwood. SOSA Nawaab is oud-led, and SOSA Ameeri and SOSA Mastani carry oud under rose and night flowers. If oud is what you came for, Adaa is not the bottle, and I would rather say so than sell it to you.
Which of the three has the most oud in front?
SOSA Nawaab at ₹399, clearly. White royal oud is the first note in its pyramid and the rest of the composition is dark and dry around it. Ameeri and Mastani both carry oudh in the base, softened and underneath, in two different ways: one under rose and saffron, the other under night-blooming jasmine and Damask rose. A note list cannot give you percentages and I will not invent them.
Will an oud attar be too heavy for everyday wear?
Heavy is mostly a matter of dose rather than composition. One dab is a whisper and two is a sentence, and an oil has no alcohol to lift it off the skin, so either sits closer than the same oud would in a spray. Nawaab is the deepest and the one to take slowly; Ameeri and Mastani read softer. Judge at hour three, in the season you will actually wear it.
How long do the oud attars last on skin?
SOSA states 6–8 hours on skin for all four attars, and nothing beyond that. How long you can smell one and how far it carries depend on your skin, the dose, what you are wearing and the weather, and they vary from person to person. A longer figure would be a promise I cannot keep for your wrist.
Should I buy the Attar Trio or a single bottle?
Buy the Trio from ₹1,055 if the part you are stuck on is choosing: it holds Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani, one of each, so you meet the soft oud, the dry one and the sweet one in a single purchase. It does not include Adaa, which has no oud. If you already know your direction, a single 3ml is the smaller experiment.
SOSA Attar Trio
For all three ouds in one purchase, boxed: The Attar Trio from ₹1,055 holds Ameeri, Nawaab and Mastani, one of each: the soft oud, the dry oud and the sweet one. It is the cheapest way to find out which of the three you meant.
